Brought a LSJ engine in due to a small porosity issue on the deck. All I needed was the block height checked to see if there was enough material on it to deck it and get some pricing.First off, the guy speaks way too fast.Secondly, for seeming like such a knowledgeably person over the phone he was absolutely clueless on how to obtain the factory tolerances of this engine block. So I offered to give him a FSM which typically has this information in it.He said he wanted $200 to do this. To do a simple measurement of deck height. For those experienced with engines you may recall that if the FSM says the deck height can be anywhere from 9.010" to 9.020" and the actual measured height is 9.020" then you know it can be taken down 10 thou MAX. No problem. This DOES NOT require measuring anything else for the sake of fixing the block. He wanted to go through this whole process of measuring the factory pins, factory pistons, factory rods, etc which isn't necessary on stock components. Maybe if I had an aftermarket setup sure, this is all necessary. But for simply repairing a block, it is not.Because say once the block is fixed, I go ahead and inspect the rods and other components later and determine some are out of spec, those would be replaced. The tolerance of the deck height takes into consideration the tolerances of the other parts being within spec.I've dealt with many engine rebuilding places in my life, including PER in Plainfield, Micron in Stone Park, IL and never had to spoon feed this information to any engine builder.Maybe I caught him on an "off" day or maybe he misinterpreted what I was trying to accomplish here, but today this was my experience firsthand and impression.A real shame because I do alot of car related work and live very close

Hamilton engineering really came through for me when I got into trouble with a very unique and rare engine. In 24 hours he knew more about it than I did, and I've owned it for a few years!Accurate information and complete understanding are what I got at bargain basement cost.He treated me with respect and didn't write me off as just another guy that doesn't really matter. I believe I've found an honest man.
