Amazing Experience!! I was in the market for a nice commuter bicycle. Zoe (the owner) has an awesome selection of used bikes to choose from. I found the perfect bike at a great price. Zoe and the whole staff went out of there way to help me set it up perfectly for commuting. Highly recommend this bike shop!!Update April 1st 2023. Just picked a used trunk rack for my bikes. Needed and upgrade from my old one in order to take longer road trips. Very happy! Best bike shop in town. Love the people, love the atmosphere!

I cannot stress enough how wonderful Virtuous Cycles was to us about 2 weeks ago when our family had an emergency situation on our drive south for vacation. We are from Wisconsin and our very nice Thule bike rack broke on the freeway just south of Lafayette. After 90 terrifying minutes of sitting on the side of the road, I called Virtuous Cycles to see if they would be able to help determine if the damage done to our bikes was worth repair. The bikes had been dragged several yards before we could pull over and stop the car. When we arrived, one of the owners, Zoe, looked our bikes over and immediately started working on them. We had two bikes that needed work and he said it would be better to repair them than buy new. The guys at the shop recommended some food options for our family to try while they worked on our bikes (shout out to Revolution Barbeque, which was delicious)! Less than an hour later, they had fixed our bikes up for a super fair rate which we were thankful for after spending A LOT of money to have a towing company transport our bikes from the freeway. Zoe even offered us a used bike rack, again for a very reasonable price. He helped my husband install it to our car hitch and we were back on the road. With a full day left of travel to complete, we were so thankful for the speed, care and kindness Virtuous Cycles showed us. Any shop could have taken advantage of an out-of-town family in a desperate situation, but Zoe and his crew were really fantastic. I have to add, they know what they are doing when it comes to bikes. When we took our bikes in for a tune-up this week, the man at REI told us how amazing our bikes looked given what had happened to them. After viewing our photos, he said whoever fixed them up did an outstanding job. Kudos to Virtuous Cycles!

The staff at Virtuous have been as loyal to us as we have to them. They offer a substantial trade value for kids items purchased through their shop, and are always sure to guarantee their work and products. Long time customer here! We highly recommend!

Took my four year old bike in for a "check-up". Had a significant list of items to check and - if necessary - repair. Mechanic offered to do a full breakdown of the bike, lubing bearings, replacing spokes, truing wheels, servicing and adjusting brakes and derailleurs, and anything else they could find. For less than what I paid for my car-top carrier and two tires, I received my bike back - in better operating condition than it was new. I'm exceptionally impressed with Virtuous Cycles and their team (especially John, who gave my baby the overhaul it deserved). Thanks, VC!

This is a great shop. I was in town for a few days and needed to replace my rear tire. I loved the hometown feel a big retail company can t give you. It s was a highlight of my trip to Indiana.

My favorite bike shop and probably the one that serves Purdue campus the most. During a busy move in day at the beginning of the school year they had time to address some issues with my bike without an appointment. That being said I ve ordered some parts and a lengthier repair is scheduling a couple weeks out but that s expected.Wonderful, friendly and courteous staff. My partner got new pedals and grips today and they helped install the pedals real quick for us. As always buy local when you can but don t be afraid to ask for help with a bike they didn t sell you as we did.

We went in because my family was buying me a bike for Mother s Day. I was able to test out several bikes before finding the right one, Zoe and Desi were an absolute pleasure to work with! They have all the bike knowledge and the service was impeccable even down to little details. I took my kids bikes back for service and again Zoe just took the time to give the attention needed but also wasn t interested in just selling me a bunch of new stuff. I can t recommend this place enough!

Great customer service! We were looking for a bike for our college age son to have a solid mode of transportation around West Lafayette. They were very easy to work with, and they have a huge selection of quality used bikes that they have refurbished. They really took time to make all the needed adjustments to make his bike like new! Highly, highly recommend!

My go to place now for all bike repairs from a 63 classic Raleigh to an 87 Schwinn to pretty much anything you own. You can talk to the mechanic that did the work. I appreciate that.

This family-owned store is very customer friendly. They support our local community in many ways.We were able to take in a bike have a new tire put on and several adjustments made while we waited - it only took a few minutes. The staff had the bike up and running at a very reasonable price.Earlier this summer we took our daughter's bike in that needed 'the works' including a new seat, rims, breaks, and ..... . The staff did a great job! They turned a beaten up bike into a bike that our daughter rides trails on. Thanks so much to everyone there for making this worried Mama much, much more comfortable!

Extremely friendly and helpful people. I got a used road bike and they went all out with getting it ready for my needs, and customizing it a bit, all included in the price. I really like the feel of the place too. Definitely recommend if planning to buy a used bicycle.They also offer to let you use their tools to repair stuff on your own free of charge on Sundays from 4 - 6, which is super cool.

scammed me. took my bike in for an estimated $240 job (via their quote). ended up being double that. they did tell me they would call if the total came out to be more. I wasn't notified and they did things to my bike I didn't ask them to do. I was forced to pay and it completely ruined any thought I had of coming back to them. I have since learned that most of their used bikes are stolen bikes they buy cheap off of people that steal them. wish I could give less than a star.

TL;DR: You get what you pay for.I want to like these guys, I just can t. A few bad experiences and I ll go elsewhere.I brought my bike in for servicing and they swapped out the bottom bracket for a new one since mine was worn out. Worked great for about a month, then the bearings started grinding in the new one. Still functions, but doesn t ride like it should for a months wear.Separate instance. I bought new tires for my bike there and talked to the guy about getting some durable tires. I didn t even get 200 miles into my new tires before the back tire ripped a hole caused by a manufacturer defect in the tire. Another shop looked at them and thought they looked used. Who knows, but broke my trust.It s just lots of little stuff too. The caps on a handle bar wrapping job weren t put in right so they fell out or the tire was installed on a bike backwards. Just weird little things I haven t seen other places.These guys are cheap, their parts and labor will likely be less than other shops, but you ll be there a lot more often too.

I stopped in to get a nut that we lost when we removed the front tire. The person handed it to me and I asked how much? He said, don't worry about it. I went back to put it on the bike and the whole quick release came apart. Guess where I took the tire to be fixed? They are super busy because kids are being dropped off for school, but everyone was working hard. They were very helpful to everyone who came into the shop. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

What a great local shop!! As a new, very beginner biking enthusiast (with 1000 questions to help decide which bike I should invest in) I was very grateful for the patience and expertise of the guys/gal in this shop!!! They spent hours trying help me find the right bike. I haven't taken delivery because I am awaiting some special order parts to go on my bike. But just for the pure buying experience I give them 5 plus stars!!

My wife and I went to Virtuous Cycles looking for a road bike for her birthday. They were incredibly helpful and friendly, answered a ton of questions for us, sized her for a bike, and helped us find her dream bike for a very reasonable price. They have a great used bike selection with a wide variety of models and prices, and it was perfect for us.Most importantly, the shopping experience was great. The owners and staff are friendly, knowledgeable people who love bikes. They were never condescending, even when we asked super basic questions, and really practice the community building they preach on their website. Would recommend anyone in town looking for a bike shop here first.

We had 3 bicycles that needed service. 1 needed a total service down to the frame. And 2, needed tune-ups and maintenance.The quality of service provided, with such attention to detail, by the mechanic John Cherry, was beyond what we expected! And is the best service we have had with any bike shop period. Our bicycles ride better now then when they were brand new! And one bike is over 25 years old!

I had Zoe and his crew custom build a bike for me. I live in Indianapolis and it was well worth the trip up to Lafayette to work with him and it was an overall great experience. Will definitely return and recommend this shop to my friends.

Virtuous Cycles is easily the best bicycle shop I have ever been to. Their prices are extremely competitive (even compared to online), the quality of their service is phenomenal, and they really want to make sure that you love your bike. I went here dozens of times during my four years at Purdue, and I never once left the shop disappointed. The owner is super friendly, and all of the mechanics know their stuff. They won't try to sell you a bike or upgrade that you don't need and really cater to people who use their bike for purposes other than racing. If you are looking for great service at a great price, Virtuous Cycles can't be beat.

Incredible bike shop! Very happy to have found it. I usually go to BGI in Indy and get great advice, but here one of the employees, Justin, actually walked me through pulling off the rear wheel and disassembling the cassette to check and redo the rear bearings. Super helpful, very friendly, and happy to share their knowledge with the community. Will strongly recommend people to come here and will continue to come here myself while I'm here in Lafayette.

This is my favorite store for everything cycling. Their service is great, the people are knowledgable, and it has that carefully cultivated hometown bicycle feel to it. They have new and used bicycles and free workshop nights that are helpful if you want to learn more about caring for your bike or how to upgrade it to make it exactly what you want. There is great bicycle parking right out front too!
