It is not often you find a business that doesn t charge you for their work. My grandson is going to college next year, so we ve been fixing up an older car with low miles to provide him with his transportation needs. We did the work on things we were comfortable with, fluid changes, brakes, belts, filters and testing with research to make sure we could give him something reliable. In my research I found recommendations at our mileage point to replace the struts to prevent undo wear on front end parts and keep the car at peak handling. This was not something we were comfortable doing so we reached out to Auto Specialty of Lafayette and made an appointment to have them replaced. My call from them was surprising enough in itself, we had two mechanics test the car, we measured the bounce and height specs and found the car to be exactly as it should . Needless to say, I was surprised they even checked for the need and not just fill the appointment with billable hours. And if this wasn t already sincere enough, he wouldn t take money for the time his team spent. The best part was showing my grandson how a business should be run and knowing that, we will see them again.Service: Steering & suspension repair

Auto Specialty of Lafayette is a very reliable, honest, competent, and affordable shop to take your vehicle to. If they don't find an issue, they're not going to nickel & dime you or make up/exaggerate a potential repair. They truly stand out compared with other shops I have taken my vehicles to in the past.

I prefer maintaining my own vehicles. This is the only place I go when I don t have the tools or the time. Got a timing belt replaced on a V6 Camry, and they took the time (8 hours) to do it right.

Highly recommended. He's really honest, knows your car very well, and you'll never get overpriced services here. I was initially told that it'd cost over $2,000 to fix my car at a different service center, and I fixed it here just paying around $150. We brought our car all of a sudden without appointments and his schedule was fully booked for the whole week, but he did his best to make time for diagnosing our car and fixed it in 3 days.I see other reviews saying he's not kind to you. Well I can see that he's not the type of person who smiles at you all the time without any reason, but the way he communicates with me doesn't feel like he's being disrespectful or being mean at all.

I chose this shop that a friend suggested to me because I needed a clutch job for my Mazda Miata, and they fixed it perfectly and in a reasonable amount of time. The cost was also aligned with the kind of job my car required. I will go back to those guys for sure, and I highly recommend this place.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

I took my car here after being told by a dealership that it needed $2000 worth of work. Auto Specialty took a look and informed me that absolutely nothing needed done. I very much appreciate their honesty and would highly recommend them!

Why are these folks the best mechanics in town?1. My car s cruise control had died and it also needed an oil change so I went in here for both. They ran the diagnostics but charged me for oil change only. Why? Because they told me that repairing the cc was only possible at an authorized dealership. Now they could have easily forked some money out from me for the labor that went in to run the diagnostics, but they did not.2. The same car was making some occasional squealing noise in the front and I thought my belt housing was loose or the belt itself was giving away. So, I took my car here. They ran few tests for a good 30 min but did not detect anything wrong. This time as well, they did not charge me anything because in their eyes they did not work for you so they should not charge you. That is how honest and humble they are. They do not try to rip you off like maybe 90% of other auto shops out there.I am moving out of state and I hope I am able to find honest mechanics at my new place like the Auto Specialty of Lafayette. I recommend them to anyone living in or visiting the Grater Lafayette area. Forget your car, you can trust your kids in their care.

Great service doesn t begin to describe this place. Auto specialty of Lafayette is a divine gift. These gentleman were caring, honest, capable and a refreshing change from the usual shop. The tow truck driver from Joeys towing said they were the best in town and said they had even just worked on the truck I was in! Even as I sat in the waiting room a regular customer told me I was in good hands. I could not agree more.I am from out of town and was only near Lafayette for work. These guys took my car in right away and the techs even volunteered to stay late to fix my axle and get me back on the road where I needed to go. Above and beyond service! Don bent over backwards to find a part for my car so late in the day, and even though the parts shop had no drivers one of the techs even volunteered to drive and get the part personally!!With such amazing service, I expected outrageous prices, but these guys still charged a fair price and didn t gouge me at all! They care. How many car shops have you been to where you actually felt valued as a customer from the very first time you went in? They re more than great mechanics who work quickly, these guys are good people and set the bar extraordinarily high for any shop. I will never forget the incredible service of Auto Specialty of Lafayette!! If I could give six stars this would be the first place that ever earned it. Thank you guys!!

Been taking my vehicles there for years, extremely honest , will not make repairs that are not needed , great staff , very fair prices , awesome at diagnostic work to find the problems , will always use them

I can t say enough about the honesty and integrity of Auto Specialty! I was told at a bigger dealership what I needed done and I decided to get a second opinion. It saved me TONS. My car runs beautifully with what they did say needed fixed. Would recommend them to anyone, but especially if new to Lafayette. You ll be treated well!

These guys aren't the friendliest, BUT they are honest. We've had a number of experiences with them that have proven this to be true. For example, they fixed my engine mount, found the part for cheaper than initially expected, the work was done in a timely manner and when asked, they showed me what was done and explained everything. In another example, they didn't try to push unnecessary work on me when nothing appeared to be wrong with my car. Though, it would be nice if they explained more without prompting.Get past their rough exterior and you'll have yourself an excellent mechanic.

Recently my husband's truck was having throttle issues, which we thought would be covered under warranty so we took it to the local dealer. Told us they couldn't get us in for a week and diagnostics alone were going to cost $75. Had them do diagnostic and told us it would be a $450 fix. Proceeded to take it to Auto Specialty (my mechanic since I started driving) and they reviewed the other diagnostic and ran their own- without charging us- and told us they could not pin point the exact cause but could be one of 5 things. Told us they weren't going to start doing the repairs to the vehicle if they did not know exactly what was causing the issue. Needless to say, the truck has been reset and working great since then. They were also able to take a look at our car the next day, not the next week.I cannot say enough about the honesty and care this business puts into their work. I recommend them to every single person I know because of their outstanding ethics and work. If you're looking for a dependable, accurate, honest business to repair your vehicle don't look ANY further!!!

Honest. Dependable.Had a problem with a weird exhaust sound / rattling. First time neither of us could replicate the issue when there. Initial $40 estimate was waived in courtesy "I can't find anything to sell you, no charge".Second time I identified further eliciting causes linked to the AC. Was a simple heat shield fix, nothing with the AC, again, no charge. They refused money this tripThese mechanics are honest, fast, and kind. I know if they charge for something, its worth charging for. They have easily earned my trust and all future business. I would go to them any day and know that any money is well spent

I have used this company twice for repairs to truck. First issue was the plenum, valve-cover gaskets and my heater hose and the second issue was a snapped brake line. Both repair jobs were done timely, and most of all, correctly. These people will fix you up, get the job done right, and will give you a very reasonable price.

Honest, great service, and quality repairs at reasonable pricing. Have had work done on my vehicles since 2000 to present day on my Lexus to old and new Mopars. You can count on this shop to do quality work and done right.

Took my 2006 Nissan Altima to get it checked as my check engine light had come on. After about an hour's testing and fixing it, the owner told me it was ready. He refused to accept payment for it because he said he ran the entire test on the equipment and there was no fault, it just needed a minor fix.He could have easily made up a story and ripped me off without e even knowing it, but he chose not to. This goes to show the integrity and the honesty of the folks at Auto Specialty, and how deep their values are rooted to their work.Will definitely recommend this place to anyone, as these people are honest and good at what they do.

I do 98% of my work myself but an electronic issue on my 2001 Taurus had me stumped and without the right diagnostic tools. It was my first time working with Auto Specialty and they honestly diagnosed and updated me throughout the whole process. I was happy with the result and it all seemed very fair.I later swung in to get a recommendation for good machine shops for an engine I was working on and got good recommendations. I believe I've found the place where I'll have my vehicles repaired when I can't get it done!

I don't write reviews but these guys are awesome. I drove my '04 truck w/ 190k miles from New England to Purdue. My truck is a constant money pit but I needed a vehicle at school. I couldn't have asked for a better and more trustworthy shop than Auto Speciality. Since my first visit they have been honest and truthful with the issue, something I value a lot as a poor college student. I recommend all my friends at school to Auto Speciality.

We were driving across country and our check engine light came on. Auto Speciality of Lafayette diagnosed our car and told us it was nothing serious. We were able to continue on our trip and they DIDN'T CHARGE US A PENNY. These are good, honest mechanics. I wish all mechanics were so kind. We are so grateful to them!

I live in Evansville and my son's car broke down about an hour from Lafayette on his way back to Purdue in the middle of the night. I found these guys online and we had the car towed there that evening. They were closed so he left the key in box and called the next morning. That afternoon they had diagnosed that it was the alternator and had it repaired the next morning. No upselling, no hassle, quick response and a fair price. Good to know that there's a good mechanic up there while my son is in school.

A specialty auto service but does not work on foreign cars...? I think a name change is in order. Unless stipulated specialty is domestic cars. It makes me nervous when a shot can only work on certain types of cars.

Took my 2002 Maxima in for a check engine light first thing in the morning. Within 3 hrs I get a very informative phone call telling me what code they pulled and what it actually means. This one happened to be something to do with my timing chain tensioner(s), and instead of fleecing me right off the bat for some engine disassembly and trouble shooting they suggested running de-sludging the engine followed by an oil change to see if it was just a blocked oil port before doing anything major. And what do you know, they were right- the whole service cost around $100, and after 9 months the light hasn't come back on yet. Thank you for your honest and trustworthy repairs. Have referred numerous friends to you and they're all fans now (despite having to drive across the river- ha ha!).

This place is a rip off to me will never be going back. Went to get my brakes done and they change and sent me out or the road unsafe jiffy lube tells me that the new brakes will be gone real soon becuz the rotors are shot and that who ever did my brake didnt even check the calibers so they lost my service!!! Be careful if u use them

First, let me say that I cannot speak to their actual work on automobiles. The reason for this is when I called there, just now, and asked if they could look at my car today, the reply was a VERY curt, "No," followed by silence on his end. I chuckled awkwardly b/c I thought he was trying to make a bad joke. I suppose I'm expecting too much, but I figured good customer service meant that the "no" should be followed up by a time when they could get my car in. Nope. Nothing. So I asked him when they could see if after about 5 seconds of this silence. He said, "Maybe Monday." Sweet, dude. Thanks for the rudeness. I understand if you are busy, but I don't appreciate the total lack of friendliness. I'll be sure to steer my friends away from your business.

I took my car here because they have good reviews, and will keep taking my car here because they lived up to the good reviews. I get so annoyed when I go to some of the chain places and they try to jerk me around. These guys don't do that, and will talk things through with you if you ask.

The man at the front desk is very aloof and unfriendly. Some wires in my car were chewed up by the squirrel and they charged me $70 or so for the checking fee which is ridiculous. The checking work for them is literally lifting up the hood, taking a look at the wire and that's it. If it was not my girlfriend pushed me to fix the car because the engine light was on, I can probably fix it by myself.

We had a vintage camaro restored in Denver and then shipped to Indiana. As with building a house, there is always a "punch list" of things that need to be corrected when restoring a car. We had issues with the new custom brake system, the fuel injection system and several other key mechanical components.Greg Budreau and his folks at Auto Specialty came highly recommended to us. When you enter his shop (which is more like an automobile shrine) you can see why. His work is detailed and complete. Greg researched both the type of brakes that had been installed (found out than an actuator was mis-stroking) as well as the custom fuel injection system. He found through research that several settings were incorrect in the acceleration programming and was able to fix those.We would NEVER take the camaro anywhere else now - Greg did a masterful job getting it to the running condition that we hoped for.Thanks Greg!

Took my truck in for a rear u joint replacement. They were professional and friendly. They repaired my truck in a timely manner and at a decent price. Will be going in again!
