This review is based over the span of about 3 years. It started with the engine needing completely rebuilt in my Honda minivan. That went great! van ran great and smooth.. i get 2 miles down the road, and the check engine light comes on.. pretty disappointing for spending 5grand. so i turn around and they fixed my Catalytic converter for free ( they were told to replace this though when i had the engine rebuilt) Van was fine for a few months, then i started have Valve covers blow; it alternated from the back to the front and vice versa... they fixed each one for free 1x due to the warranty which was nice, but they failed to tell me that i needed a new front valve cover.. i cannot say they are the ones that beat it to death, but i was not happy when i seen what it looked like from my current mechanic; regardless i have had a lot of work done on my van to keep it running and driving and it seemed like Ben was trying his hardest to help me out but in the end, they never emptied the tube seals when they replaced the gaskets, so my van.. the WHOLE time was choking to death. the valve covers look like American Auto JB Welded them on, but when i asked Ben he said they put silicone on it to try to get that jacked up cover to stay on ( why wouldn't you call the customer so they can buy a new one?)I am only giving 2 stars because the customer service is excellent and Ben is very nice. Malachi is knowledgeable as well.

The front desk man wasn t very professional. He called and said I was on the hook for roughly $700 despite my warranty minimum being $100.He either withheld all my options or refused to work with the warranty company and put it on me to cover the difference.After 24 hours I picked up my car and took it to the Toyota dealership instead. They took care of the change and I didn t pay a penny over my minimum.

Ben and American Automotive Services take care of their customers! I am from out of state and needed some help with my vehicle. Ben went out of his way to provide the service I needed in a timely and professional way. If he takes care of out of town customers that way, I can only imagine how good the care is for people in Lafayette! Thanks American Automotive Services!

Ben and the guys are great they go out of the way to explain a repair and will work with you in a pinch to make sure your back on the road as fast and safe as possible with the most affordable labor prices around thanks guys

I called Monday had some noises with my Monte Carlo 2002..Ben got me n & got me a full inspection of what I heard also told me what I needed fix ASAP . Called the next day 9am car was to pick .very much appreciated .

Quick and efficient. They won't try to fix things that are not broke. Fair to good prices comparatively. I've been in more than one pinch and they have always come through. Nothing but quality work and straightforward business! My parents have been going to American Automotive for about 10 years and Ben has become our go-to mechanic for repairs to our 2000 Toyota Sienna, 2000 GMC Sierra, and our 2010 Ford F-150. Over the years, he has replaced a transmission, wheel bearings, a gauge cluster, brake lines, an exhaust manifold, and has done three brake jobs. Ben and his team are honest people and knowledgeable mechanics. I had my car serviced here and it was a great experience. They're not the cheapest in town but they're still fairly affordable and they'll get your car done normally in the same day. They also do very good work when they do fix your vehice. The customer service is so positive. Very welcoming. Easy to understand instructions. My concerns were heard, fixed and put to rest. Very affordable and time efficient. They were very informative. I feel confident coming to this shop when I need service.

I m here for the summer on a pilot job, I drove up from Florida and they were the only ones that could give me a honest time and price! And then they found other issues that needed attention and made sure to check with me about the issue.The pricing was super reasonable and the crew was freaking awesome and amazing! Truck rides like a dream again!Being from out of town, this company and crew were GREAT!

They evaluated and gave an estimate free of charge. I was scheduled quickly and repair was completed in a timely manner. Great location for auto work, as staff is knowledgeable and kind. Best part is repair was priced far better than quote at dealership. I love this place. When I have to have something worked on this is the place. I drive an antique so things take a bit longer than average but always kind courteous and happy to have my business. A close friend takes her newer car there and has never had anything other than a stellar experience. Even worked with her on some larger service and repair jobs. Your be hard pressed to find a better shop around I think.

Mixed review after going here.What they did well:They got the car in to look at it within an hour even though they were busy.Had the vehicle repaired within a couple days which was excellentPeople were friendlyPrice for work done was reasonableWhat needs work and why I would use caution if you are clueless about cars:After they looked at it they called and said the vehicle is undrivable and needs over $1,300 in repairs.This is where I'm a bit disappointed in how they operate.I call them back and am told it needs control arms, struts and rear shocks. I question how rear shocks are causing the original problem and am told it's just time since they are original and the car is 14 years old.They could've easily been more upfront and on the original call been more like: you need control arms replaced to get the vehicle running again for $300. However it's also probably time to get the shocks and struts done but not urgent at this time to get the vehicle running again. As when I questioned him I was told the rear shocks did not have to be done.Just seems like they could be a bit more transport and not try to get every dollar possible.

Fantastic A+ service! They took excellent care of me when my car was leaking. I was a little panicked and they fit me in the next morning despite being super busy. They were very patient with me and my lack of knowledge on car maintenance. They were not at all condescending or try to charge me for work that was not needed. A wonderful, ethical, locally owned family business that I highly recommend!Service: Air conditioning

On 18JUL2021, our family was traveling on I65 to Chicago for a summer vacation when we ran over what looked like part of a cinderblock in the road. We heard it hit the bottom of our car as we passed over. We quickly look for and found an auto service shop in Lafyette. The guys at American Automotive Services were able to fit us in and check out our car. To our surprise our car was not damaged. They were able to locate the point of impact, a small dent on the exhaust pipe, and concluded that everything was okay. They were very friendly and professional as well and genuinely interested in helping us. When we asked for a bill, they said that there was no charge. Based on my experience, American Automotive Services is honest, competent, thorough, and nice. Thank you for your help getting us back to our vacation.Service: General repairs & maintenance

My Volkswagen Jetta TDI broke down while I was passing through town. These guys were great about seeing me first thing the next morning and diagnosing my issue. While the car ended up being replaced instead of repaired, they were honest and up front about what was wrong. I even got a lift to the rental car place. Highly recommend.

I recommend running as far away as possible from this shop. Towed my Mercedes there after it broke down, they diagnosed that the fuel pump was bad, replaced it, and one thousand dollars later I was back on the road. A week later, my car breaks down in the same exact manner it previously had. This time, I take it to a different mechanic, who tells me whoever did the fuel pump job had no business working on these cars. They wired the fuel pump incorrectly and the fuel tank float was stuck in half way, causing the car to read it had half a tank when it was empty. Furthermore, heated positive wire at terminal fuel pump was making poor connection, which the new shop I took to had to replace connectors at the fuel pump terminal. The current shop was forced to completely take out the fuel pump that your team put in and re-do the entire job the right way. I just paid this new shop $600, not including the cost of getting it towed, and this $600 was NOT to get any new parts, but to redo the fuel pump installation the correct way. $600 entirely to fix mistakes done by this shop. I contact AA about this and of course they give me the run-around for 3 days straight. Spent 3 grand here over the course of a couple months and this is how they treat their customers. Place is a joke.UPDATE: Not only did AA replace the fuel pump incorrectly, I have now been told the radiator job they did was also done incorrectly. Now I know why it took a week when they did the job and kept giving me the go-around. Was just told the radiator was installed so incorrectly that they thought the car was in an accident.

0/10 do NOT recommend! Kept my vehicle for over ninety days, proceeded with phone calls stating it'll be done by Monday. Had to bring my uncle and brother to get real answers and my vehicle back before Christmas. Unprofessional as hell.

I definitely recommend this place and plan on taking my car here regularly. The staff is very knowledgeable, honest, and friendly. Their prices are excellent and competitive. I took my car in because I probably needed new break pads. They did a very thorough inspection and actually took the time to show me that I still have a sufficient amount of break padding left. Most places in town would have told you they were bad in addition to cramming other services down your throat. This is NOT the case here, you are treated with respect and your vehicle gets extraordinary service. I think it's worth mentioning this place is very female friendly in respect to NOT taking advantage of you. I have been to soooo many places where getting your car worked on is an absolute nightmare because they think a female will be gullible and easy to push unnecessary services on. Again, Not the case here!! Much MUCH better than the dealership and other places in Lafayette!!!!! I no longer have to stress out for car related issues!!!

I have been using American Automotive for about 5-6 years, and they are awesome! Ben, Larry, and the rest of the guys are friendly and understanding! Easy drop off times, thorough check ups, they explain things really well, and their front lobby is clean. Highly recommend!

Have been waiting for my car to get fixed it s been there for 14 days was told it was a transmission issue and that they would order the part so a week later no phone call I called in was told some story about the part and them forgetting to call me back. Drove pass yesterday and my car has been sitting in the same spot for 14 days and noticed my rear tire was flat. Have not gotten a call or even reached out to about any info on my car I have been the one that has to call in and ask. Every time I call I always get told I ll call you back and never hear back.Service: Transmission

Ben and his team at American Automotive Service have been awesome to work with. They have performed service and repair on multiple vehicles for my family. They are honest, dependable and work as quickly as they can to diagnose, estimate/approve and repair vehicles. I've also found their pricing to be extremely competitive and fair. Great friendly service! Rescued me and my two kids who were stranded Sunday night with 4 hrs left to travel. Monday morning they were able to get my van working and ready for travel before 11 am, even though they were busy. Great job guys!
