The above and beyond reviews are not a joke. We broke down on a trip from NC to IL on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. Called several places in the area we broke down and they laughed when we asked if there was a chance we could get back on the road before the holiday. Found these guys a half hour south of where we were and brought the truck in at 4pm. They tore the transmission out, rebuilt the pump, and had it back in by 9 that night. They stayed late on a holiday weekend just to save us from being stuck and did some quality work for us. We're 2k miles down the road on the repair now with no issues whatsoever!

PSA to all who may consider using 5 Star Transmission for any vehicle repairs My Nissan s transmission was failing and I needed it rebuilt. I was referred to William, the head mechanic at 5 Star by a coworker. We talked prices and got my car in the shop without any problems. Within a couple weeks my car was fixed! Until I got in it to drive it, my car broke down completely within an hour of leaving the shop. That was 53 days ago, for the last 53 days I ve had to fight tooth and nail to even have a conversation about my car. William AND the shop avoid all of my calls and give me lousy excuses as to why they can t answer. It s always It ll be done once I get this part in but the part is never right. After getting fed up with being unable to get in contact with the shop; I decided to drive up there and look myself. I discovered that my car wasn t even in the shop and has been moved to an unknown location without my consent or knowledge! William and 5 Star Transmission are wildly unprofessional and completely unbothered by their inability to complete work. I would never in my life recommend anybody to use their services!

Will ALWAYS get my business. I have been coming to them for years and have never been disappointed. They are honest, fair and trustworthy. They have been a huge blessing to my family and friends that I ve sent their way. As a woman I feel we get taken advantage of by this industry. These guys are genuine and don t treat you like your dumb. There are good people in the world and they represent it.

Had my transmission worked on by them cause that's who my warranty company has. Transmission still isn't working right just gets worse stuck on the highway with the system saying transmission fault service now transmission overheating . Taking it right back to them. Well now I'm without a car completely cause they aren't responsible for the transmission the warranty company sent them the transmission and they put it in not making sure it was the right one for the car what mechanic doesn't make sure it's the right part .it's ok cause I'm contacting my attorney. Now they have lost my key to my car and have not called me everytime I call I get another lame excuse. Now they lost my key to my car they have had my car for 4 months. Everyday it's something else. And now I have a $17,000 lawn piece in my front lawn and they refuse to fix it

Five stars all the way!!! They were very friendly and treated me nice. The lady that works there gave me a ride home after they took my car to fix it! They rebuilt my transmission, put in a new thermostat, fixed my sway bar and did an oil change for a very fair price. And the best part is I didn't go without my car for very long! My 2005 Chevy impala drives like a new car! I'm very pleased with their hospitality and work! They have my business from now on!! Thank you guys! I appreciate everything you did for me!

Transmission went out while on vacation 700 miles from home. They were able to get it fixed and dealt with my warranty company. I was able to rent a vehicle and continue my vacation. They didnt try to take advantage of my situation. I am extremely happy with the work they did. Very easy to work with and helpful. Great customer service. I would definitely recommend 5 Star transmission.Service: Transmission

These guys have done work for me twice now , so far they have done a good job at a fair price . Anytime you get into Trans mission issues it's never cheap so it's important they do a good job . I will say they need a better parking situation. They're always busy.

Horrible. Told me 3 different prices. Must of forgot first one i was told. My car was sent there last Monday. Yes that is 11 days ago. Told 3 to 4 days. Everyday they say tomorrow. Well again told that and guess what was told by Steve my car only goes forward not in reverse but easy they are adjusting. They were taking off a part he would call me before he left. Well i called at 5:56. Was told he was gone. Mechanic acted like he didnt even know my car had been there that long? And what he said is different from what i was told was being done to my car and from first quote being overcharged 500.00 from quoted price. I have been taken advantage of. Lied to everyday. Now have paid 5 extra rental car days. And now Steve is dodging me. DO NOT TAKE UR CAR HERE IS MY OWN ADVICE FROM MY EXPERIENCE. Am i ever getting my car back? And did you even put in a transmission like you told me you were? Or something being done different as your mechanic slipped and said something different.

I took my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer SS in to be serviced for a leaking transmission. After speaking with Randy i had second thoughts on bringing my vehicle in to be serviced here but they offered a good price as ive already called around before hand. He was unprofessional, now keep in mind a lot of shops like this arent going to have professional people, just good ol' boys that can do the work to an extent.I told Randy I took the vehicle elsewhere to locate an oil leak and they had put dye in the oil to try to find the leak. The shop i took it too beforehand couldnt locate an oil leak. To locate the leak, one would need a UV light to find the dye in the oil. Randy said there wasnt any dye, so i asked him if he had a UV light...he thought about it and said "Well, uh...i think we have one back there". So you didnt check, just thought i was dishonest. They never kept up with giving me a call on when the truck was completed. I had to call and ask for updates. Once it was complete, i arrived to pick up my vehicle. I waited another hour or so for them to button everything up...no big deal. They pull my vehicle out and i hop in the vehicle, start it up and there was a new noise that was able to be heard in the form of a ticking. I call Randy from the parking lot of their business and told him about it. This was on a Saturday, he said to come back Monday. I said im in the parking lot and to have someone come out to listen to it, he didnt like that much as he was getting angry... A one armed mechanic comes out and says he cant hear anything. They put it in the garage... Not one mechanic could replicate or hear the noise. How convenient...The shop owner comes out and said he couldnt hear it neither, so i tell him to roll up the window and have a listen....a couple seconds goes by, he rolls the rindow down and says yeah thats the torque converter. He said theyd order a new one and put that in.I take it back to them on a wednesday, Randy didnt say how long itd be. I had to call them on that friday in which they said they havent started anything yet. I call them Monday morning and its all of a sudden done. I go to pick it up, i drive it across the street to the gas station and the noise is still there. This is after i spoke with the shop owner who said they fixed the problem. No the hell you didnt.Do not take your vehicle here to be serviced. Let them do the smaller jobs, sure. But big jobs they will mess up or forget to but parts back where they shouldve been i.e my inspection plate cover for the bellhousing of my transmission.Steer clear. Go elsewhere. Youll thank me later.Service: Transmission

Never take your car to this shop! I gave 1 star because it wont let me give them a lower score. I bought a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had a known transmission issue. I called around and 5 star gave me the best price for a rebuild, and it still fit the budget so I elected to have them do the job. Now I personally am an ASE certified technician, but the shop I work at does not do transmission work, and I am not equipped or tooled for rebuilding them in my garage. Randy ,who is thier counter man, told me it would be 2-3days that and I'd have my Jeep that was lie #1. A week later he finally called to tell it's done. I picked it up and it still had shifting issues. So I called them and take it back for him to look at, and he calls 20 minutes later and say it ready. I asked what it was, and he said the Transmission computer needed to relearn its shift points. Lie #2, Remember I am a Technician there is no such thing as a relearn for my transmission model. I pick it up it makes it home, and to my shop the next day for me to do some suspension work on it. It didn't make it back home before it quit shift AGAIN, and that has been where it has sat ever since then. When I call and tell them that I am done waiting, and I either want a rental until they figure it out or give me my money back because it's going on 30 days, and they can't seem to figure it out. Randy starts to get upset and insult me and my wife while she is there. I have never raised my voice or treated anyone there with disrespect. All I asked for is what I paid for or my money back. They have lied and BS'd us from the beginning. They dont know what they are doin. The incompetence in this shop is staggering.

Place is sketchy. I bought a car here a while ago and it literally had problems off the bat. I called them to tell them what was going on and I was treated like a problem rather than a customer. After bringing it back they still didn t fix it and eventually after a couple of months the motherboard went out when I was told it was a good car. Everyone here is fake and sketchy and they just want your money. Don t shop here. Worst 2.5k I ve spent in my life.

My transmission blew up (bearing shot out and damaged the flywheel and transmission case). I have a compact hybrid, so most shops wouldn't even touch it or would charge almost as much as the dealership ($6k) to replace it. Five star rebuilt it for a lot less and saved me money and stress. Then 3 days after getting it back, something somehow chipped a tooth off a different bearing (no idea how. All the other teeth didn't even have a scratch and they said it was an anomaly, shouldn't have happened) and it threw the computer for a loop spitting out 3 pages of codes. They went through them all to find the problem and found out no one sells the part that broke, so they couldn't rebuild it again. Then they surprise me with a brand new transmission and put that in, all if this at no extra $. I just paid for the original rebuild and the tows. The car is running perfect now and even getting +5 mpg with the new transmission. Thanks!

This shop has some of the best mechanics in Indiana. We have a fleet of vehicles and have dealt with some that do not know what they are doing and we are so glad we found William, Randy and the rest of the crew are straight shooters and easy to talk to and deal with. We plan to be customers from now on.

I had my transmission rebuilt by them and it went out a week later. they claimed they fixed it and had to bring it back 3 more times with the same result. The owner said I needed a new case and different shift kit and that it would be indestructible for $300 extra. I said ok and a month later I got it back. 2 weeks later the transmission went out again. It's set outside the shop for over 2 months now. Everytime I call they say they will get to it today or the next or that they can keep employees. So now they want ME to take it out so they can fix it and that they have to many cars to do first some that's been there for 4 months. When I paid them originally it took only 2 days to get back a shady rebuild with a 12 month warranty. now 6 months later I still haven't gotten what I've paid for so by the time I get it back if I ever do the warranty will be up and I'll be out of luck.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5 STAR TRANSMISSION & AUTO TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR HONEST WORK DONE ON THEIR CAR!Friday night I packed up my car to drive home to Chicago to surprise my mom for Mother's Day. However, even though the car was cranking, the engine was having trouble starting, as it had done occasionally in the past. The kicker was that I was planning on selling the car that upcoming Monday.I was able to start it up Saturday morning and I drove it to 5 Star Transmission & Auto without even calling first. Randy greeted me and let me know that they would take care of everything for me. A half-hour later, my car was starting up no problem and I was able to make it home for the surprise!I cannot thank Randy and the rest of the 5-Star team enough for being so transparent and empathetic! With my narrow budget and limited knowledge of cars, I was nervous about what could have happened, but their quick and easy service did not break the bank!

They Had my durango off and on for over three weeks. They kept throwing parts at it and having me pay for them, and when I would bring it back (or have it towed in) they took off the parts I just paid for and tried something different with out giving me a refund... I called the dealership where they bought my parts and they told me one of the parts were purchased through them and then returned 5 days later... when I went to confront them with the proof from the dealership the owners wife began cussing and screaming at me demanding that I leave... it was only after I had a man call and threaten to take them to court did they finally agree to give me half of my money back for one of the parts... also they had me drive to Spencer Indiana to have a computer programmed for my truck and while I was there they asked the technician to send me back with parts for them belonging to someone else's vehicle... when I brought the computer back they said that now it wasn't working bc I needed a new ignition sensor.. so I paid for that and my truck still wasn't working ... they told me it was going to be $70 for a used computer but when I got the bill it was for $120 and she said it was because a new computer had to be put in... so intern my trip to Spencer Indiana was of no benefit to me and I definitely didn't receive a new computer... this is a long story short.. so please take this review into consideration.... I am a honest hard working mother and I was completely taken advantage of... the worst part is they smiled in my face and acted like cared. I highly recommend spending your hard earned money at the dealership.

Stay. Away. Our transmission went out the day after our wedding and we took it to 5 star. One month and $4,600 (all of our wedding money :( ) later we had it back with a one year warranty. It sounded a little weird, but it was functioning alright. 2 months later the RPMs were flaring without touching the gas pedal, and we had to take it back for the exact same problem. They had the car another month and never called. We had to call repeatedly to ask the status of the vehicle. When it was finally ready, my husband picked up the car and admits that he should have asked for the paperwork of what they did, but he didn't (later they stated they have no record of us ever bringing the car then). 2 months after that the car was not driveable. We had to have it towed there and they kept the car for 2 MONTHS. Again, they never called. We called each week and were told a different story each time. They took the car to Ford twice without our permission and tried to get us to pay for it. We were told it was a transmission problem and then it was an electric problem. When my husband called to ask for our car back, they also tried to get us to pay for the labor even though they were unable to fix the car. We were both yelled at by the owner's wife in person and on the phone(audio recorded as proof). When asked for all of the paperwork they had on the car, the owner's wife told us that she doesn't have to give it to us and she had to go do payroll. However, the manager was very kind and made copies of all of the paperwork for us.The car limped to a different mechanic on recommendation of a friend. After inspecting it he found: The main plug in was not plugged in well, both O2 sensors were unplugged, AND the ground strip was mysteriously missing. He reported parts and pieces were all in the wrong place and it's a miracle the car made it to him. Our 6 year old car is no longer salvageable. If you would like to keep your vehicle, go somewhere else.Service: Transmission

I had a issue with my electrical system this week... Being from out of town, I needed a honest opinion of what was wrong. I called and Randy told me to "bring her in". So I did. They were unsure of what it could be and asked if I could leave it for a few hrs which I did. Upon coming back, he told me this.... "I've only told this to one other customer since I started here, but, we can't find anything wrong..". Two things came to mind, one, awesome! Nothing wrong, just a random bug.. Second..this is a shop... And I'm from out of town.. He could have told me I needed a new transmission and how would I have known different!?!? Point is, he was HONEST!! Thank you for going the extra mile and checking everything out, and not being a shady mechanic shop! I would recommend your shop to anyone in the INDY area!

Took my car in on two separate occasions and both times was treated fair and quickly. Very honest hard working people who remembers their repeat customers and once didn't even charge me for a pcv valve replacement. If anything happens to my car this is the only place that it is going to.

J&W is a Mom and Pop mechanic shop that is run by William and his wife Tanya. They are two of the kindest people I have ever met. My girlfriend had driven up to Indianapolis from Chicago and her car was malfunctioning and wouldn't exceed 60mph. We took her car to Meineke and they quoted her some high priced service regarding her transmission and charged a $50 diagnostic fee. William diagnosed her car for free, took the time to really figure out the problem (which had nothing to do with her transmission) and fixed it immediately. Great people to work with and I HIGHLY recommend if anyone EVER has a problem with their car, take it to J&W (the place is located in a pretty good spot too)!

Had someone backwards jump my SUV..Now it is not running correctly..Had 5* do diagnostic testing....Said it was most likely a wire harness somewhere... Said since he could not fix it....There would be no cost to me and once the wiring was fixed, they could retest it to see what the problem was....Elsewhere that would have cost $100......Not a bad group.....Did not repair the vehicle, however they don't do electrical....Seemed reasonable enough? Diagnosed some of the problems, though said until the wiring was repaired, would not be advised to repair, as it would be likely the problem would reoccur...Makes sense, it being electrical components and sensors...

Lost a ton of money and time here. In return I got a letter full of lies and was threatened over the phone by the owner. And a bill for storage fees that I was never informed of or charged for in the past until I posted a bad review for them not returning my calls (5) about a blown motor that occurred after they had my vehicle in their shop 9 times over a year in a half. No communication, no details , no notes, no verbal or written advice or readings on any of of my invoices. Just bills! Just unnecessary parts and labor to fix a simple oil and ac leak. No advise/ recommendations what so ever. Just a blown motor and new engine mount they replaced without evenBeing informed of. They finnaly fixed the leaks after the 9th visit but my motor over heated and blew and spun bearings after I left their shop and got onto the interstate w no low coolant lights ever reporting low coolant
