True story, my car stopped working and I haven't had to look for a repair shop in years. I asked "Google what is the best mechanic shop in the Gary area?" Gas Monkey was one of the ones that came up. I read the reviews and was so impressed, I had my car towed to Gas Monkey. I was shocked to find that the business had the door open at least 15 minutes before opening. Allowing customers to line up in a warm area. Then what put the icing on the cake, while waiting, the same comments I read online were coming out of the mouths of the customers waiting with me for them to open. Comments like, they will only repair what needs to be repaired. Service is quick, efficient andthe pricing is honest. I checked my car in around 8:10 am and they repaired my alternator and my driver side headlight. I was picking my car up by 11:30 am. That was with the young lady telling me she may need just a little more time to get it done. I was totally blown away and pleasantly Impressed. So if you are looking to get your car repaired I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND GAS MONKEY!

Please be aware of this shop they changed my battery charged me 180.00 and kept my old battery as a core and did not tell me til afterwards and everything is 75.00 just to look at it even if you already know whats wrong with it and you want to just get it fixed. Please dont leave your car over night they will park it outside where anything can happen to it. So whoever thinks this place is cheap you are being got over on and the hidden fees that come along once they are done. Shop around first tires over priced as well

This is more of a concern that should be addressed. I came in this morning already aware of what was wrong with my truck(made that known to the young lady behind the window). I came in ready to get it fixed. Even as a woman I m aware that before anyone that considers themselves professionals would have to inspect the concern regardless of what the customer think is wrong. That s totally fine , the problem is not letting customers know how much you charge to inspect the vehicle. I guess if you re a regular you re aware of the prices , there were multiple signs up about everything in the lobby but an inspection fee. Thank God I m able to take care of things that come up unexpectedly but I couldn t imagine someone not having the $75 at that exact moment just to see why a light just came on. $75 dollars is insane anyways when auto zone were the ones who gave me the same diagnostics first FOR FREE ! One of the main parts I need for my vehicle is under $75 !! This is not my business so I can t tell anyone what to charge or how to run their business , but placing a sign in the lobby letting potential new customers know that the moment they pull your vehicle in the bay it s $75 rather they re able to fix it or not. The lady at the window was very nice and beautiful . I hope the business continue to prosper because it was definitely booming .

I took my 95 Chevrolet caprice there to get my shocks and springs replaced and I told on the phone that the service was 600$ so I have my wife and god brother drop the car off and when I came home from work and noticed new shock but no springs so I called them and my stated that they said they would be closing for a week and I waited and called back that Tuesday morning and they said to bring my car back so they can fix the problem and when I came up there they told me that they don t charge 600$ for shocks and springs and I told them that was the third time they done things like this too me sooo I want be returning there at all there service is garbage at that front desk but the workers in the back do good work I just don t recommend them to anyone there over charging people there not same business as when they first opened yrs ago

I must admit I thought the issue was different from what they were saying. The front office and Carlos was patient with me. He was right . They are very Honest Also. Best Automotive Technician Shop Around!

It was extremely hot outside and I had to fix my daughters air-conditioning on a budget and they took the car in ASAP with parts that I brought to them had great communication called me before hand to let me know that there could be potential issues with my part. I gave them the OK to go ahead and do the install they took care of it the same day and her air conditioner works phenomenal. I understand why there was a long line there in the morning when I dropped the car off every one of the customers seemed to be so happy. I will recommend anyone to go here.Service: Air conditioning

My father came to get his truck fixed by this irresponsible unaccountable company because he saw that they had great ratings and then left the auto shop with a crack completely across his windshield that was not there when he dropped his vehicle off. They tried to make it seem as if the crack was already there when it started off as a small crack which WAS there but they blamed him knowing it wasn t his fault.

Reasonable prices, friendly staff, decent work. It's not a corporate mechanic spot so don't expect the best of the best, but they get the job done if you need to save a couple bucks.

I do love their work however I have been noticing the over charging lately. Like I had a thermostat replaced. I have done it before on my own literally less than an 15min job to replace and I was charged 200$ for it. I didn't realize that part until afterwards because i was getting other work done.So I was a little upset that the part was 30$ which means they charged me like 170 something for a very simple 80$ job. Other than the hike in their labor prices overall its a very good reliable shop and they offer warranty on their services and parts

I have taken my cars here several times and each time I'm happy with the speedy service and more importantly the quality and pricing!! I have a care package purchased with my car dealership and on my last visit they said my brakes were fine. They were making a strange noise but I believed them. A few months later and everything had to be replaced!! Carlos did an amazing job - even the car dealership said so.. except I paid 1/3 less than my dealership would have charged!

A little aggravated because my son has had to come to the shop many times after getting an engine put in. We came because of good recommendations. He is now on his second engine and still having issues. I CAN say they are trying to fix the issue each time though and customer service is pleasant. Just hope we can get all the issues worked out.

An honest man, does very good work, gets it right the first time, won t nickel and dime you. Great service. Very professional. I travel resetting lowes hardware stores. And had very little time to get to the next job. And i couldn't have with the condition of my vehicle. They got me back on the road in the same day. Thankful and greatful to gas monkey.

Said they would get an estimate...call me back. And yea...that never happened. But its in Gary and they are Black so being amongst others blacks in the community...this is the type of service we are subjected to. Not of quality not of their word.

This place is the worst!!! My truck was fine until I started getting oil changes here. They are Sabotaging people cars to get more business. Carlos comes out and looks guilty as all get out. Hello, i see a lot of reviews on here, all i can say is just be mindful of what you actually need done as oppose to what other things they find. Would not be going back! I came there because a piece under my car (which i believe was the catalytic converter) had came a loose and was dragging, i had previously had my check engine light checked at Auto Zone and was told it was my Catalyic Converter amd so i bought the piece on line seeing as thought i had the same problem with another vehicle and know it is a easy fix. When i took it to this shop i told the lady at the front desk multiple times that the Catalytic Converter needed to be fixed she claim the mechanics put the car on the machine and this is suppose to be the big diagnostic machine top notch, so said ot came back that it was a completely different problem only to after i let them switch out this bad part to be told " oh after they put it back on the machine again now it saying the Catalytic Converter she gone tell me " i told the mechanics to reset the check engine light and i want you to drive it and i will charge you $100 for the replacement of the part and $180 for a tune up."A day later my check engine light is back on and i have no way of knowing if the really did anything to my car and the Hispanic man that was worked on my car was looking hella guilty and nervous I definitely won't be back and wouldn't recommend this place as a female looking for a legit auto mechanics I have plenty of people to refer for a legit business but being thirsty and scamming so people will bring there cars back and there is many of other mechanics to choose from Gas Monkey u just played your self!
