Only hardware store in Elwood, and they know it. You can tell by the pricing. What might cost you $100 out of town might cost you $200 or $300 here.. for example. Their cheapest fishing pole is $179. Or $20 at walmart.. Yet they want us to shop local.. only got the 3 stars because the staff is friendly and helpful.

Confusing as far as trying to price certain items without needing to ask an associate, but all the associates seemed to be kind and likable but it did seem to feel as if they are so dang used to dealing with thieves that they don't even realize they are accidentally and unintentionally giving off the vibes of assuming each and every customer is in fact stealing when I know it's sometimes hard to the good herd from the bad herd, but we are definitely not all thieves or up to no good!!

Doesn't open at 8 like it says the workers were just going in at 8 so if you need stuff you will have to sit and wait its 10 after and there still not open I came here because of the time so I didn't have to wait till 9 for the other place to open waste of time

Didn't have the best experience here. I needed some chain for my truck. One of the guys told me where it was. I had to cut it myself. Then the manager got mad because I was using the machine. Overall, I purchase most of my Business Supplies here. I love to shop locally. And I usually have great experiences here.

I usually have no issues when shopping at True Value, but here lately it has been extremely absurd. I always come in for the same Pedigree dog food, and make sure to get Milk Bones for my puppy. Yet, a lady in which is located front desk (register), has absolutely ruined my perception of the store. She is rude, inappropriate, and impatient. I get it, we all have needs, but there is no reason to be so unpleasant/ill-mannered towards customers. Not to mention, she's always roaming the store, using inappropriate language, and I tend to discover her absolutely nose deep in her phone; as if she doesn't care to check anyone out. If you don't want to work, then keep your laziness and poor attitude at home. (Blonde, Short, Rubbermaid Container, Glasses.)

I don't mind swinging in here rather than a big box store. I live in a nearby town, so it isn't my go-to hardware store. Only complaint (my reaon for a 4-star review): Don't call to get a price or ask someone over the phone to check to see if something is in stock. This morning, I called with a 20-minute hold to see if they had a metal bucket smaller than 9qt. I finally disconnected and pulled in. Not a sole insight (maybe 1 customer). Took 2 minutes walk in to pick it up and purchase it. This isn't the first time I've had this same result either.

The employees are so friendly and nice. They are willing to help anyway they can. Prices are a little higher than the big box stores, but that is how must little town stores are.

They have always been friendly, open, and accommodating. If they don t know something that freely, admit it, and check with someone else to see what the answer is. They will not BS you, they care, and you can really tell the effort they put in. I d rather go here than to a major chain store like Menards or Home Depot.

They have most anything you may need for every project or hobby. The staff is knowledgeable with store and their products. It's great place to shop.

Great hardware store for a small town.Well stocked and will order almost anything you need to complete a project. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable.

Rented a tool from this location 3 weeks ago. Still have not received my deposit back to this date. Have made 13 calls to get this issue resolved and each time it's always a computer issue. Will not just give me cash but insist it needs to go back on my card but their system never works and they keep forgetting to follow up like they say they will. It's all on me to make sure they are doing their job. They have great rental rates but working for 3 weeks to get my deposit back has taken hours out of my life I'm sure they won't want to. Overall the process of renting a sod cutter was more of a headache than it should have been. Needs better training before throwing someone on a computer who doesn't k ow how to close out a ticket.

Tops True Value Hardware in Elwood is a conveniently located local hardware store. The staff I met were busy, but friendly and helpful.However, I wasn't able to get the paint I needed to touch up the window dormers on the day I needed it. I had the paint can the professional painter had left me after painting the prior year. I went to Anderson True Value store first, thinking that's where he had bought the paint.It wasn't. I now know to read ALL the information on custom mix paint can lids. Read AND Understand. BEFORE you get in the car and go shopping.In small letters, preceeding the mixing formula on the paint can, it read "Tops Hardware & Home Center". I didn't know Tops was the name of the Elwood hardware store. I had never been there. The True Value store I knew was in Anderson. I had been there. So I went there.AFTER I reached the Anderson store,I not only found I was at the wrong store, but I also discovered that Electronic paint mixing systems are not the same across the independently owned True Value hardware stores. The prescription in one paint system does not automatically or easily or necessarily translate to another store's paint computer system and machines.Unfortunately, on that Saturday, after I did get to the Elwood store where my housepainter had gone, I had to wait until the manager was in the next day to get my paint mixed. Staff had not been fully trained in the computerized paint mixing process. The supervisor at Elwood Tops True Value did match it correctly Sunday morning first thing after opening. She also trained staff. My paint was ready by when I arrived at 9am Sunday.HOWEVER, I had lost my critical available Saturday painting and drying hours due to the delay. CONSEQUENTLY, I was not able to beat the eventual rain, so the painting part of the project is unfinished. Sunshine hours are premium in the fall, as are Hours free for busy people to paint.But, Tops True Value employees that I worked with were--despite being harried and busy--nice, apologetic and explanatory of reasons for delays. They were helpful. The store was clean both times I've been there. Shopping in Elwood can save local people a lot of time and miles driving to other cities for hardware items...as long as we understand the system. Developing understanding can take time and experience. Retail is not an easy business. I've worked in retail. Four stars for motivation and convenience and smiles and eye to eye friendly contact with customers.(The kid part of this adult would have liked a Dum Dum sucker for my inconvenience. )

I'm glad we have a true value here in town, but if I could buy somewhere else, I definitely wouldn't hesitate. The customer service isn't that great and they follow you around the store, not to help you but to watch you. It makes me feel like I can't even look without feeling as if I'm doing something wrong. I'm a customer, giving them my business, and getting ready to purchase their products with my money. You would expect to be treated as so, but it's absolutely unnecessary and unacceptable for a company, and it's not just me either. They've gone as far as calling the police on a customer while they shopped and claimed they were shoplifting, and even though no evidence was found they still banned them from the store for life !!!

Best home/Farm supply option in and around Elwood. Store is always stocked. Staff is friendly, and polite. Store is clean. Managers are very polite. They seem to care for their customers. Prices are a little bit higher then what you would find at The Home Depot/Rural King. But that's almost a No-brainer. Overall my experiences the last Month with visiting this store have been very satisfactory

They are a small town hardware store so they may not have the most selection, they may not have the best prices, but they have great people and will bend over backwards to help you out and figure out how to get task done. Thank you for being there. They also have black cherry faygo pop that is great!

Absolutely fantastic staff!! I came in from Anderson and had a major issue with my trailer. The counter personnel and even all the way in the back of the store they were friendly and went out of there way to help me. It's to bad that most places are more concerned about making a buck instead of making a happy and content customer. Any time I'm in Elwood I will only shop Tops

My experience was ideal. Staff was responsive and competent in providing answers when questions asked. Prices were fair considering how far of a drive saving a few dollars would cost. Hand sanitizer provided

Incompetent employees, had three people take an hour of my time to find out the guy I needed to talk to was there the whole time. Then tioo to pieces of plumbing I already bought and put it back on the shelf not once but twice. Then looked at me like I was nuts when I told them they put my stuff back. (The items I showed the check out clerk so I wouldn't be charged twice for when I walked in) I will NEVER go back. And I don't recommend this store to anyone who may need help finding what they need. Go to the box store because it's way cheaper and more friendly and actually take the time and effort to train employees.

Not a good place to Browse.after a short while {you will be stalked} this is what happened to me.i was looking for a pulley for riding mower.need's to be a match many sizes shortly worker ask if I need help.no I do not thank you for asking.he left came back stood there with a box like putting it were it belongs it was very very uncomfortable feeling another was peeping around the end of the row went to office let them know I was not going to steal there very over priced pulley. Now i drive 18 miles round trip to get repair parts and hardware it's too bad I do small engine repairs ;{not just one time thing 5out of 6 time's same thing} everything I have said here is 100% true good place to go if you want feel like a shoplifter . Thank you not a place for looking around.TRY IT..

Just tried to call 2 times to verify they had least 2 bags of fast set concrete but no one answers the phone and it rings until a recording comes up about being answered by" Avia office ". Prices are high and not many there have any clue what they sell or where it is. Bought a ground rod for electric meter box and their price instore was quite a few $ more then the true value site has it listed for. Talked to the manager and he looked online as well and told me " well we aren't exactly a true value ", but did give me the ground rod for the online price.

Absolutely horrible I bought a product from here, I've had it for 3 days and I've used it once and wrapped it right back up immediately after it's a horrible product and does not work as it should and when I went there today they refused too give me my money back thankfully i took a video where a bald white older man is telling me there's no return policy which is insane I've never heard of a policy where you can't return a item after 3 days.

It is nice sometimes to have a place like that store around for a few things but if u are getting many items I would drive a little farther away they take advantage on being the only source and up the prices

No one seems to care if you need help at this store. I have gone in several times and just stood waiting for someone. Everyone either avoids you or ignores you. I tried calling several times too and just sat on hold for way too . Save yourself the trouble and go to Armstrong in Alexandria. They care about you and actively try to help you.

Manger has an attitude. We had issues with our well...the pump..he was rude during our talk with him. Not very up to date about Wells should refer to others and keep mouth shut and loose attitude. Went back to get valve young man knows nothing. Box empty I asked him to look in back..he o no. Why not get people who know what you sell? I do not shop in Elwood, I would like to support locals but I have to go out of town for what I need. Stores are closing right and left in this town.

They always seem to have what I need. If I can not find where something is, there is some one friendly to ask. Most of the time they will ask you if you need help before you even ask. Great home town place to get any hardware item you need.
