Communication Skills Lacking. I've been a customer of Tom & Ed's for years now. As a Progressive-recommended shop in prior years they've done excellent work, completed on time and with good communication. However, after my recent experience I am going to be rethinking using them again. Front-end damage took nearly a full month to repair. Along the way I got virtually no updates. When I called for status, it was one excuse after another (wrong/missing/unusable parts received, people on vacation, etc). When the car was finally ready (no one called me to let me know, I had to call and ask - again), I went to pay the deductible and asked what the final cost to insurance was. The final number was 45% higher than the original figure! When I asked why I was never informed of this difference, they acted like it was weird that I even care "since it's going through insurance". Yeah, when it's being billed through MY policy, and going to affect MY future premium, I CARE. The car was repaired well, so that's the only reason I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1. Then again, for what it ended up costing I should be expecting perfection (which it is NOT - but choose your battles, right?). Seems like maybe you implemented this Carwise application to help with communication and customer expectations, but here it is several hours after pickup and the app still shows an expected pickup of 3 days ago, and that it's not ready for pickup - so what good is the app if it's not being updated? Bottom line: Tom & Eds needs to focus on better communication across the board.

We took our car to the Crown Point location after being in an accident. From beginning to end they were AWESOME!! Answered all our questions and concerns with professionalism and patience. Everyone there is very easy to deal with and they did a spectacular job on the repairs and body work!

35+ days just to replace a rear quarter panel and a taillight. They pushed our date back twice saying the mechanic was too busy, and had an apt another day. They also said they were replacing an interior cracked panel, and circled the crack with a green marker. They never did, and we are left with a hole and green circleVan came out great on the outside, so I didn't make this a 1 star. I would not go back.

Milk billable hours, and they will promise you things they won t deliver on. Dropped our Yukon off on scheduled date July 17th and they said if it goes over then they cover any extra rental days insurance won t cover outside of the 28 days. They had to replace one rear quarter panel, and af 3 weeks of calling to check status they told us parts were late. Then car was ready to pick up Aug 17th close to closing so technically Aug 18th. 4 days over the rental coverage and Tom said sorry I can t be responsible because parts were late. Total job was 2400 + 500 deductible = 3100 and car is still not completely finished yet. They told us that the PPF coating goes on in a month and the 2400 already covers it and bring it back in 30 days. We will see if they stand up to their word again in 30 days.Service: Auto body & trim repair

Hit a deer with my 2016 Toyota Tundra. My dealer recommended them for body work. They found the damages and repaired as was needed and vehicle was returned by the date they promised. Repairs look very good and has my truck looking like the day I bought it. Only thing I'm kicking myself over is not consulting and asking to change out that overly chrome grill with a better looking aftermarket grill.

Poor workmanship. My 1 year old Tacoma had a battery leaking which caused some damage to the paint on the fender and the hood. The Toyota dealer took my truck here for repair. While it looks like they did a good job painting it (reason why I didn't leave 1 star) they did a pretty poor job putting the truck back together. So far I've found a kinked hose going to windshield washer sprayer which caused the passenger side not to work, 3 broken clips that used to hold wires down to the fender, a loose relay box (literally just laying next to the fuse box) and the rubber insulator that goes around the heater hoses where they meet the firewall was not put back correctly and was like a foot away just hanging there. I'm glad I didn't pay for this and no way would I allow one of my vehicles to ever go here again. I'll also be letting Toyota know so they hopefully quit bringing customers vehicles here as well. They must think people don't look under the hood.

i dont write reviews ever but i had to because my experience with this place was just awful all around. i would give a negative if i could. i had to hound them down for ANY updates on my car after being promised phone calls numerous times. my repair time was delayed by 4 days and they didnt even tell me, i had to call them ONCE AGAIN to find out (which was on the day it was supposed to be done). when i did finally get my car, the person up front overcharged me $1000 and tried to act as if i was confused and stupid. they acted like that was a normal thing that they do. i understand things happen but really? at least apologize. then i look at my car and the work done was not right. bumper didnt even fit on properly. scratched up window. still was making that weird sound i specifically mentioned to them. feels like they thought i wouldnt notice or something. beyond angry and disappointed.

Car was towed from my home on Saturday the 17th of Dec. Ty was the driver from Tom and Ed's. Monday morning I spoke to Denise and I signed off for the work to be done. Denise already had the parts ordered and explained that my car would be ready after the New Year. I was pleasantly surprised it was completed and ready for pickup Xmas Eve!! Because of the winter storm I waited and picked it up today the 27th. I totally recommend this shop. Professional and easy to deal with.Service: Auto body & trim repair

I arrived to pick up my car. As we walked around it we see that they forgot to replace a trim piece on my door that was replaced. They were nice and took pictures and told me they would order the piece and I would have to come in and it would take 20 min to replace. But what hurt me the most was my radio it was functioning fine and after the accident it no longer worked they said it was not accident relatable. They told me to go to the dealship and pay 175 dollars to have them see if they could relate the accident to the nonfunctioning radio. They also told me that they had to jump start my car several times and that can cause issues with the radio. So car had functioning radio before accident and now I have a broken one. And its my financial responsibility to fix. Very very SadService: Auto body & trim repair

I called Tom and Ed's for some advice on a situation I was having with a Carfax report. Essentially, I was sold a car that had a clean carfax, only to find out 2.5 years later that it had been in a wreck. Tom took the time to explain to me how this situation can happen. Didn't charge me a dime, and I'm sure he's busy. The lady at the front desk was awesome too! If I need any work on my new car, I'll be taking it to Tom and Ed's.

After an incident with a deer I took my car to Tom and Ed s body shop. They were recommended by progressive insurance. After two weeks I noticed that there was a defect in the craftsmanship. I took my car back to the shop and the individual I spoke to tried to convince me that the defective work, what is the cause of someone kicking or hitting the right front passenger fender. Yet there are no visible marks of anyone hitting or punching the panel. Of course the body shop has cashed my check and I have no repercussions.Service: Body & Trim

I recently had someone hit my brand new car. Lol. Everyone was booked untill mid May. Heard great things about Tom and Eds so I swung by to see when they could get my car done. Aaron got me in right away. Made sure I was taken care of from start to finish. Always kept me in the loop. They got my car done quicker than expected. I am ocd about my cars so I was nervous about having it painted. Its a hard color to match. They did a great job. It's hard to find great customer service and great work these days. I'll be using them from here on out. Great people!

After a deer ran into my Jeep Patriot. I thought It might be totaled but they looked over the damage before the insurance inspection was even made and Tom insured me that it could be fixed. So I heard back from the insurance company 4 days later saying it would be fixed and that day tom & Ed s updated me. And had everything done within the week with the upmost quality and customer service I couldn t be happier to be back on the road, BIG SHOUT OUT!!Services: Auto glass repair, Body & Trim

Communication and customer service is awesome. Best around. Body work was not great. Vehicle was rear ended. They replaced damaged parts and was supposed to align trunk. Shop was busy so they sent the car off to another Tom and Eds. Was called promptly when it was completed. Turned in rental car and picked up vehicle when I went to get it it looked like the trunk was popped open a little. Took a while to get the payment figured out as it went to another shop but finally got through that and say it was noticably off. Didn't have time or resources to complain and see if they could fix it again. Insurance was covering it but still they had an opportunity to do the job and correct. It wasn't just a little off so whoever signed off on it and everyone who was in the process of returning the vehicle were ok with sub par craftsmanship.

Absolute joke and a waste of time. I had an accident in May and brought my vehicle here through my insurance. They had it for a month and failed to fix the suspension damage. I had to leave it for another week and a half for them to fix that. Part of the suspension damage fixed was a strut. I just took my vehicle to a dealership to investigate a noise with the front suspension and the strut Tom and Eds replaced was the wrong aftermarket part (Mopar parts only were authorized) and I now had to take it back a third time for them to fix. The appointment for this strut repair was set up a week in advance and the part was ordered and ready to go. Was told it would take one day. I had to call to find out they will need it another day or so to replace additional parts.Services: Steering & suspension repair, Body & Trim

I made an an appointment for an estimate. Got there and was told they have no record of me making an appointment even though I made it that morning. The women was very rude and told me I called the wrong location but I have the number I called on my call history and it was, in fact, the crown point location. She then told me they had no openings and I'd have to reschedule. I work midnights so I had to loose sleep over this. I even called the Merrillville location just to make sure I wasn't crazy and they said I didn't call them but also where confused as to why I had to make an appointment at all for just an estimate. I Won't ever be going back.

The manager got my claim denied before the adjustors could even see it. My car was egged and it caused bubbling paint on my roof(pictures show egg shells in that location and eggs were on for at least 16 hours). State farm wouldn't work with me and denied denied and denied my claim, because of an opinion that was literally an opinion. Fact was pictures show no damage until then. The Schererville office and highland one always took care of business, and done spectacular jobs. This guy made me look like a crook, and now I have 5k paint job that I have to pay out of pocket. I will never use them again, nor recommend. Thanks for making me look like I'm trying to pull one over, when I've never and have never done that.

I was referred to this business on the Crown Point Facebook group. I'm really glad I went there. They are very professional and extremely nice. They keep you in the loop from start to finish and the work they did was very good and done sooner than expected. I would definitely recommend them!

3 reasons for this rating.I have taken 3 different cars to this body shop to be repaired and repainted due to bad accidents. Here is my experience: 1st car 04 Subaru STI. Car had a lot of front end damage, and the seats were soaked due to a flood. Tom&Eds took care of that from AtoZ. The removed all the interior, dried out the car, and made it like new. On the exterior, the paint job perfectly matched the original stock color. However, the bad thing I discovered was that they painted over all existing rock-chips and did NO sanding of any kind. Therefore any rock-chips were painted over and stood out. I was really happy with how the car turned out, except for the rock chips that were easily seen through the new metallic blue paint. 3.8 stars for that car. 2nd car: blue metallic Mini S that got rear ended which damaged the back hatchback door and rear quarter panel. Tom&Eds perfectly color matched the paint (which was awesome!), found the correct body pieces off of another car to match, and put the car back nicely. The only flaw I noticed was that the rear hatch was not perfectly aligned, but it did open and close, and lock the way it was meant to. 4.8 stars for the Mini. 3rd car was a metallic black 335i which had some driver side damage because a oak tree branch went through the front plastic fender. They did a great body paint-matching job. They had to repaint the hood, but same issue again as the 1st car. They did not sand down the hood, so any and all rock chips were painted over and EASILY STOOD OUT TO THE NAKED EYE!!!Now for the 4th car: a friend of mine took his car there to get it repaired, and it was a flat red Mercedes 2-door. Same issue again!!! The repainted OVER ALL THE ROCK CHIPS!!! On the hood and front fender, it looked like an inexperienced kid did it. That really stood out, too. He owns a tint shop and veers everyone to not go there, due to that. That's my experience. You have been warned.Service: Body & Trim

When you get your final bill and the amount has changed. Received call to notify me there were supplemental charges for 2 items not seen on initial estimate. Fine proceed with repairs. Updated invoice received one day before pickup. Went to pick up vehicle and there is more charges for one more item not mentioned before. Unacceptable. No one notified me of the extra part that was needed.

Edit:I'm updating my review because after another issue (my battery died one night while at work) the owner went above and beyond to tow my car to the closest shop for an entire electrical evaluation - after checking everything, including my alternator, they found there was a dead cell in my battery and handled the replacement.I still think the hourly workers in the shop couldn't care less about the cars they are working on - it's just their job to them and they want to clock out BUT I will say the management has handled everything that's arisen and have done everything to make sure I'm satisfied and safe in my vehicle.I'd recommend them based on their customer service and writing wrongs, I just hope those in the shop get a talk about doing things right the first time.Original:Meh. Took my car here because it meant bypassing the extra step of having the insurance agent look at my car after my accident - plus, Enterprise is literally 150ft away so I could do everything without needing a ride anywhere. The shop never ONCE called me, in the week it had my car, to let me know how the process was going. I went once to retrieve something from my car and was updated as I asked and another time, when I called to see when in the world it was going to be done. Two times - when I contacted them, over 8 days. Neat.My husband picked up my car while wrangling a very tired 3yo and putting the carseat back in so he didn't thoroughly look at the vehicle. When I looked at the car the next morning, with less than a mile driven on it, I noticed a deep scratch on my brand new bumper - they buffed it out, while still saying they didn't know how that could've happened. Fine, whatever.Next day, driving the car, I go to clean the snow/salt gunk off my back window only to see that the wiper is moving but the fluid isn't ejecting. Figured I must be out of wiper fluid... until I took my eyes off my rearview mirror and noticed that my windshield was wet. So I went to clean that off, and don't you know it - the wipers on the windshield went off, with no fluid but the fluid ejected out of the back window wiper. YAY - they messed up some wiring. SUPER.They've promised to fix it, so now I have to go back and spend more of my time waiting. It was a 5k claim and they couldn't have cared less to make sure it was done properly the first time. I'm the only one suffering from their mess-up, not them... I wish I could make them refund me portions of my deductible for the time wasted, mileage/gas going to and from and overall annoyance.tl;dr - take your car elsewhere so things can hopefully be done right the first time. I, personally, just hope nothing else is wrong - that an airbag doesn't randomly deploy or they didn't mess up my brake lines OR SOMETHING - because my child rides in this car. It's a 2014... I shouldn't have to worry about safety issues for a very, very long time - if ever. Their mechanics clearly don't care to double-check their work for your safety and that of your family's!
