Was on the highway and boom catastrophe happened my driver side axle snapped on my minivan at 7pm.. To my surprise when I searched for a auto mechanic near me SPLAT popped up said open 24 hours I called and it was true so he came and got me back to his business and didn t rip me off or anything price was very reasonable and he was a awesome mechanic. Springfield you re a lucky town to have a shop like this with a honest hard working mechanic who truly wants and love to help people..Services: Steering & suspension repair, Transmission repair

My family and I were driving to St. Louis when our vehicle started to drive extremely rough. It was to the point that I pulled over along the highway just south of Springfield at 7:00pm on a Friday. We found Splat via an online search and were not sure what to make of it, but we needed some help. He was extremely helpful on the phone, came out in his personal vehicle to diagnose the problem (it was 30 degrees out), and had us follow him back to his house. We pulled up to his house where he turned a bright light on so he could see better. He said it looked like a spark plug issue, ran to the parts store, gave us his business discount at the store, change them all out very quickly, and charged and extremely fair price. Never judge a book by its cover. Splat may not have a fancy tow truck or multi-bay garage with lifts, but he knows his stuff, is very friendly and kind, and can quickly turn a potential disaster into nothing more than a delay. If you are having second thoughts because his Facebook page looks like a random guy in a home garage, do not let that fool you. He is as professional as they come and I will tell everyone who will listen to give him business. He was amazing! We were on an out of town visit and our van broke down. He came to our hotel and fixed our van on the spot. It took him an hour from the time I called till the van was fixed. The service was amazing but he also offered to not even charge us!! My car was driving fine but had lost power. I went here to get my alternator changed and he suggested I buy a brand new battery, which I did the next day. The day I drove it away from his shop, my vehicle stopped WHILE driving. With the new battery in it, it no longer drives AT ALL!! I've NEVER this problem before he taking it there. It's been an excellent highway driver for me. I believe it was rushed due to his personal circumstances and he was uninterested in making situation with my car right. Fool me twice...

Can t say enough good things. I was driving back to Chicago from St Louis and our engine belt broke. I wasn t expecting many places to be available on a Sunday afternoon. But after reading a few reviews, I called Splat and they showed up in 20 minutes for a very reasonable fee. He inspected the issue and came back within 10 minutes with the new belt and replaced it in 20 minutes. I was back on the road within an hour from my initial call, all for a price at a fraction of what another place would charge. Give them a call.

We were traveling from Georgia to Iowa and my Dad passed away in Iowa while we were in route. We were really discouraged when our car battery icon lit up outside of St Louis. It was 6pm on Sunday and July 4th weekend. We figured nobody would be available to replace our alternator (our guess at the problem). When I spoke with Splat on the phone, he assured me that he was available to troubleshoot the problem and make necessary repairs. Exhale. When we arrived, Splat found the problem to be something other than the alternator. He provided lubricant and told us how to get back on the road, so we could reach our family members quickly and take care of the repair later. It has been a horrible day, but we really appreciated the knowledge and kindness from Splat. What a great guy!Services: Air conditioning, Battery

I called in the late evening because I realized that my hatchback wasn t shutting all the way properly because the rubber lining had fallen off the trunk of my car. He got me in immediately. It had to be fixed asap otherwise I would ve had to tolerate my warning alarm anytime I drove. He fixed it a few seconds and made my life so much easier. He was more than reasonable on the price. The owner deserves more business. I highly recommend it for any issue you might have with your vehicle, even little things. He truly wants to help people.

Outstanding service!! I cant thank Splat enough for his quick action and dedication to customer service. We were driving from STL back home to Chicago. We stopped in Springfield because our car was making a horrible noise. I called Splat and he told me to come by. Normally we would have been stuck for hours on end, and possibly have to stay the night in Springfield. Splat was able to go get the parts, repair our car, and we were back on the road in LESS THAN 2 HOURS. HIGHLY recommend Splat and couldn't be more thankfulService: Brakes

Our car would not turn back on after we stopped for food on the way from Chicago to St. Louis. I called Splat Automotive (open 24/7) and the man on the phone said he s on his way and was over in 10 minutes to help us get the car started. This guy was great. My engine light came on on Sunday morning at 8:30 and I texted him immediately. He immediately responded back and we made an appointment for 1030. By 1045 he had diagnosed my problem and turned off my engine light and he almost refused to charge me because it was such a simple fix. This is the guy to go to if you re in Springfield and you need car service.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

Splat Automotive is an amazing shop with very helpful, knowledgeable, and communicative staff. I brought my car in to have spark plugs, coil packs, and the PCV valve replaced. Splat is very skilled automotive technician and provides good service at reasonable cost. My car stalled when I reached Springfield on my way from St.Louis to Chicago. Splat helped doing repair in the night and I was on road again after few hours.Thank you for helping out people in trouble. Good wishes to you.

All in all, they did good work. I will say I am still concerned that the car had over 600 extra miles on it than when I dropped it off.Honesty goes a long way as a business man. So the explanation of having to drive to the parts store many times doesnt fly.If it doesnt make sense it's because it's not true. I've been on this earth long enough to know this.It would take at least 100 trips to parts store to add up to over 600 miles.Full gas when dropped off and empty gas when picked up. They offered to reimburse for gas but we said forget it because we were abit baffled about the miles.Apparently they forgot about the customer that tends to pay attention to their odometer.Bottom line, they did fix the car at a resonableprice so kudos for that.We would NOT use them again do to the deception.Services: Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance

Best service I could have hoped for! After I called him, Splat showed up in 15 minutes at 10 pm (yes, pm!). My car died while I was away from home; I barely made it off the Springfield ramp. I rented a car from the airport so I could finish my trip. But I was feeling a huge logistical mess ahead of me figuring out when and how to get my car back once it was fixed. The dream (and highly unlikely) scenario would be if I could get my car back when I passed back through Springfield the next night.Splat identified the issue, costed out the parts and labor, and sent me the information shortly after midnight. I was able to approve the work right then, and he got it going immediately the next morning. My repaired car was ready when I passed back through again the next evening!We re extremely pleased with the service and how quickly it happened. And even happier to have access to a solid mechanic so late at night in our time of need.I would use this guy exclusively if I lived in Springfield. What a gem!EDIT: I m editing this because I forgot to mention price. Completely reasonable and in line with our experiences. Plus, Splat waved the extra fee to come out that night! It wasn t a lot in the first place ($20, I think he said when I first called...I m fuzzy since my brain was in a bit of crisis at the time). But he ABSOLUTELY SHOULD have charged us for that well-earned service. Too nice a guy!

This place is a joke! Took my vehicle there and these guys gave me the run around from the start. They told me oh ya we can fix it and then when they couldn t they gave me the run around for a week straight. Told them this was my only vehicle to get to and from work and that if he couldn t fix it s ok just let me know. But instead he kept stringing me along day after day. When I confronted them about taking so long he told me you know what just come and get it, the key is inside the vehicle My vehicle sat in the same exact spot with the hood up for 6 days, every time someone drove by there was nobody working on it. There were several cars that were there on the day I dropped it off that were gone the next day, cars that came after mine that were gone before mine. Not to mention when I went to speak to them there was a bottle of whiskey half full sitting on a car they were working on. I would have been more apt to give a decent review if these guys would have been upfront with me and not given me the run around, I m assuming because I m a woman and I don t know much about cars. They were so unprofessional and I was very disappointed especially since there s all these good reviews on here. My experience was nothing like any of these reviews. More like an experience out of the twilight zone!

Our car broke down on a Sunday and Splat saved us. We d been to 4 Autozones and a Firestone all with long lines, rude service and no answers. Choose Splat, very knowledgeable and worked quickly to help get us back on the road!

Any light that comes on in the car can raise panic. For mom today, it was the battery light while travelling in her Kia. Turns out the serpentine belt came off....on a SUNDAY, while she was travelling through Springfield, IL to CHICAGO for work. She took her car in to Splat Automotive, met with Pat, whom was very professional, fast, and affordable. With his help she was able to get the part needed and installed, and get back on the road in 2 hrs. Thankful that they were open on a Sunday.

If I could leave no stars I would. This is a very unprofessional business. You don t get anything you would expect from a regular mechanic. They don t get back to you in a reasonable time frame. This was the worst car experience imaginable.

If you want someone to run off with your money and string you along, this place is perfect!! I ve emphasized time and time again that I only have one vehicle to go to work and he s a liar and horrible communicator. Go to an actual professional! No joke.

Edit: while this guy is awesome to work with i reached out recently and could not get a hold of him. He may be out of business.Amazing technician! If you are in a bind this is the guy to call. Reasonable prices, awesome service, and super flexible.

Awesome service, and on a Sunday. Picked up the part I needed, came by and got it done quickly. HIGHLY recommended! If you need a guy in a pinch, or just repairs in general, give him a call.

This guy is just a wannabe mechanic. I have nothing against working out of your home or garage at all, but this guy is unorganized, unprofessional, and just terrible! He can t even keep his phone turned on or the number updated so he can be reached.
