This place is honest, when another shop recommended a transmission flush for my daughter's older car, rather than just take our money they were honest with us and told us it wasn't needed or recommended. I would not hesitate to trust this place.

I have a 95 Ford van, so my transmission rebuild had some additional hurdles. Keep in mind that while many cars are the same, the older they are the more unique they become with their quirks and bugs. This shop quoted an excellent price for my rebuild, and they did that work well. Their time estimate to start and do the work was not correct. They seem to have a difficult time to organize their work, so be prepared for that (this is their biggest problem, but for the price I can deal with that). Don't get mad at them, just call them often and ask for updates. When I did pickup my van it had a difficult time shifting gears, which resolved after about 30 miles. Come to find out they didn't do this needed drive time to get the computer to re-learn the rebuilt transmission. After this period it worked normally and has ever since (over 1 year later).I have driven many miles and road trips and their work has stood the test of time. Debbie is the owner's wife and she is the best one to communicate with.

After spending $1,600 and 2 months at his son shop, my transmission over temp issue was passed on to the father. My car was at this shop for a month until they finally threw in the towel and sent it to dodge. After 3 months of not having a car and still having the issue after paying them I asked for a refund of some money and they told me that they will not do that. Also never received a single call from this place. Will never be doing business here again horrible work.

I've been going here for year. They do have great service and the prices are good. At last repair an item was taken from my car. I'll never use this business again. And everyone I referred to them has stop going. It may have been a new worker that took it. Not good at all.Service: BatteryService: Battery

I own McHenry Auto Exchange and I had them rebuild a transmission on a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Quad 4x4 and they did a great job for a fair price. I highly suggest using them. Thanks Daves Transmission!Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

Got a clutch job done and got the car back with a squealing sound that wasn t there previously. They gave me my car back 3 times with the same issue claiming it was fixed before I was tired of asking them to fix what I already paid for. Last time they said they changed the clutch for a better performance clutch and swapped my trans for a salvage trans. I never asked for a new trans and of course it didn t fix the sound. They want extra money for that even though the problem still exists.Service: Transmission

Had my transmission rebuilt from them a few weeks ago, they lost my lug nut caps and striped 2 of them to where i can't take the tires off. I went back with two new lug nuts and asked them kindly for 2 minutes of there day to help me replace them with a power drill and Dave himself refused to help me because i was supposedly too rude and too honest by blaming them for something they actually did. His attitude is horrible once he gets your money. It was the least they could of done for 950$ of service repair, i wouldn't go there again. Very sketchy service.

Unfortunately I am now buying a new transmission 7000 miles after they rebuilt my transmission. I have a classic car that does not get driven and is garaged and apparently the 12/12 warranty they give is which ever comes first. So yes it is 2 years later but only 7000 miles of use and I have metal shavings in my transmission fluid. Oh and offering to have me only pay for parts does not help. My rebuilt transmission should not have gone out in 7000 miles and imagine the damage the engine could have experienced. Would not recommend this place.Service: Transmission

Brought my Honda in to have the transmission fluid changed. After driving the car home and parking in the garage, husband took it to work the next day and I came home to find a giant puddle of transmission fluid on the floor of the garage. My husband looked under the car at work, found that the plug for transmission fluid was loose. He hand tightened it, then I called Dave's to be told to just bring the car back, had to take off work to drop the car off. They admitted to not putting the plug back in properly, I expressed my frustration, but the guy was rude and told me to call tomorrow. Called the next day to be apologized to and told they didn't know what they could do to compensate me. Said they would call me Monday, but never heard from them. Paid for my transmission fluid change and ended up having to pay to clean up the fluid on my floor and lost my car for another day! Never would I recommend this repair shop. If I hadn't noticed the leak, could have blown my transmission!!!

My brother, parents, and I used this place for years until several years ago. We sometimes wondered if they were accurate in their assessments of problems, and if they overcharged. The "last straw" was a problem with my brother's car that they "repaired" multiple times in a short period of time, giving us the impression they didn't know what the problem was. Finally, they wanted to do a $1,000+ job to "fix" it, and we took it elsewhere. The other mechanic, in one or two days, realized it was a simple $200-300 problem related to the car's computer system. After he fixed it, there were no further problems. We haven't returned to Dave's since.

Was very satisfied with the work performed and he really knew what he was talking about, cant beat his price, thats for sure but i was disappointed they said it would take 3 days and then said tomorrow every day when i called. Finally 8 days later i got my car back but it was worth the wait, would have paid 3x what he charged at the dealership

Terrible service. Zero communication. No estimate. Took 10 days.Chose him based on a recommendation, and he happened to be open on a Saturday when my transmission went out. Towed it for free to his shop. Everything's rosy so far. Said he'd call when he knew something. Saturday comes and goes, get halfway through Monday and I call him. "Just about to look at it," he says. Calls back 3 hours later, "yea, I think its this and its that, not sure though. Can't give you a price. I'll start on it soon" This is Monday afternoon. Gave me the impression it was not going to be very expensive, just a couple cheap parts he says.Tuesday afternoon, haven't heard anything so I call. "I haven't started yet. I'll let you know."Wednesday Afternoon, I call. "I have something else I'm working on, I'll start on it when that's done!" (very rudely) Then he adds it should be done Thursday afternoon, Friday morning latest.Thursday afternoon, I get his receptionist "he's just taking it apart now, trying to find the parts he needs to fix it. He will need to order the parts." After I explain how long they have had my car and how ridiculous this is getting, she sounds sympathetic and says she'll try to help expedite. Should be done by Friday afternoon.Friday afternoon - "he's still working on it. Won't be ready till Monday. Definitely done by Monday" (still very rude.)Monday, "We may be done at the end of the day. We'll call you." No call.Tuesday - Your car is ready. that will be $650.My wife picked up the car. Took 20 minutes before anyone even acknowledged her presence. She said the place was anarchy. Like I said, terrible service. Its totally ridiculous. 10 days? really? And I had NO idea what it would cost until they just dump a bill in my lap! No, "sorry for the delay" just, here, eat a fat bill. I usually do all my car repairs myself. I've even changed a heater core in a Ford Ranger, which requires removing the entire dash of the car (which takes about 10 hours according to haynes) I am having a hard time believing it took 14 hours worth of labor to take out the differential and change two gears. (oh, and change a front axle, which I have done before, takes an hour) Long story short, maybe you save a few bucks because this guy will actually repair parts instead of just replace your whole transmission or differential, BUT you will certainly end up paying for it somewhere else. If you don't mind being without your car for an extended period of time, having no idea what its going to cost you, and being treated like they couldn't care less about you or your business, then this is the place for you.

Took my car in to be fixed, and it was not fixed when he promised after three days. Threw a temper-tantrum in front of me and slammed the door on me. Made me wait two hours purposely before the car was fixed.I will ever go there again.. Dave is rude, discourteous and has a violent temper. Also, promised me one kind of tire, but provided another type. Very poor service...

After going to dave's for a complete rebuild of my transmission, I decided I would never go anywhere else. My husband and I will only take our cars to dave's now. Everyone has gone out of their way to help in every situation, the prices are unbeatable, and the work is top notch!

Yesterday the driver side Tie-Rod broke. They towed it back to the shop and had it repaired in less than 24 hours. With work backing up due to a storm that knocked out the electric, they had a two to three week waiting time for repairs. They called me on 8/12 in the morning and let me know it had been completed. Previously: Highly recommended. Antique parts took an extra day for the parts guy to locate lol. Not an issue. I understand that! The manual transmission blew on my 1998, 50th anniversary F (150) series short bed, a red F-150. Due to their being slammed with work that time as well, I asked the Fox Recovery (third party) tow truck driver if he had an opinion. He then told me that Fox Recovery (the company he works for) had all of their trucks serviced there (definately a kudo from such an important part of service). Furthermore, the police and other municiple vehicles are serviced there as well. Not to mention winter when there is a line of snowplows outside awaiting repair (very hard on a transmission). Awesome job everyone!5 STARS * 3 jobs equals a 15 star rating!Job 1: * * * * * (bell housing)Job 2: * * * * * (1st and 2nd gears. shift rail roll AND the shift fork.)-------------------------> thanks MooseJob 3: * * * * * In & Out in 24 hours. This is a second vehicle sent to get a transmission rebuilt. I worked with Danny, Debbie and Chris. Just a truly great experience. Fair prices for quality work. Thank you all for the great jobs.

This Dave guy is a scum bag. I took my truck in for a power steering problem and they decided to re-build the transmission. Apparently they got my truck mixed up with another truck and rebuilt my transmission without my authorization and then tried to charge me $1200 for their mistake telling me my trans needed fixed anyway. Avoid this place. Londono's in Round Lake on 134 very good and honost.

Fixes cars for cheap if you can stand the long wait time. The biggest issue is Dave s unprofessional, rude attitude. Screaming in the face of a teenage girl is not the way to do business. After reading his other reviews, Dave s rude behavior has been a consistent theme through the years....

I had my vehicle taken in to get looked i was told it would be in the shop by 9am i have to call at noon to get confirmation. Then i ask how long before you look at it? We have many cars ahead of you well give you a call later today or tomorrow morning shops closed and no courteousy call. I walked over to inquire in person, customer service was rude i have work and no transportation. Sunday they are closed monday i have work. If it waits any longer i will have it taken over to pepboys at least then i know im getting screwed but they get stuff done nearly the same day or by 1 day max. And im still waiting for a phone call. When i got there one person was working on a car while two bays were empty and four guys just standing around not doing anything ive seen my vehicle moved twice now and still no phone call. I better not get charged for a waiting period. I will inform my family and friends to stop going here and weve been coming here for many years. At the cedar lake location.

They do outstanding work at reasonable prices. Not only do they do Transmissions but they do all kinds of mechanical work. But they do specialize in Transmissions and they get it right! Dave the owner is a stand-up guy and if he tells you he can do it he can do it.
