Wow! My brake lines failed Weds.AM, Larry found a way to work me in without an appt. due to the urgency, and I got my pick-up back on Thursday PM! Great turnaround and price!

Thank you for your prompt, courteous, and professional service! Whenever my vehicle needed repairs, you had them completed in just a day or two. 2024 - I wish I could give additional 5 star reviews every time my car is serviced. My car is repaired and safe to drive.We had a good experience. Our car needed to suspension work and a few other things. My car drives like new. The part warranty is exceptional. We will return if any new problems arise.Update: We had new problems and Carpenters took care of us!!! Larry has always been fair and honest. I would recommend Carpenters Automotive to anyone needing a fair and honest mechanic. He took care of our suspension, brakes, and tire issues for us in a very timely manner. These people are great. Best shop ever used in town. They actually saved my vehicle from the junkyard. When I came to pick it up they gave me details just exactly what they did even down to a technical aspect of using a Heli coil. Anybody that seems to give these people a better view do not understand the mechanics of an automobile. I don t take my car to a shop unless there s something I simply do not have the tools or time to repair. These guys took care of me and did a great job. I highly recommend.Service: Engine repair

I have taken my vehicles to Larry Carpenter for many years. Larry, Kevin and Eric have always done very well by me and I have never had to take a car back for the same problem. Never have I felt we were overcharged or taken advantage of. I can't say the same for some of the car dealerships in the area that I had dealt with previously. Larry has been able to work on Jaguar's, Chevy's, Dodge's and everything else that the family has owned. My opinion is that you would be well served by working with Carpenter's Auto Repair.

I've been taking my vehicles and my son's here for years. Kevin is an ace mechanic and have never had to return to get something refixed that he worked on. Wouldn't think of letting anyone else touch my vehicles.

Arguably, the most important function of a shop is its diagnosis. If you misdiagnose the vehicle and fix the wrong thing, the customer is out thousands of dollars. Carpenter's Auto is the place to go if you want a competent diagnosis and a job well done. Carpenter's certainly picked up the slack from the other shop I went to who seriously dropped the ball. I would definitely suggest taking your vehicle here if you have any kind of drivetrain problem. Thank you again Carpenter's for the great repair!Service: Transmission

My first time going to the shop. I will say they're prices are a little high, but I'm not complaining. Fuel pump went out on my 99 Dodge Ram 1500I highly recommend Carpenters they took care of me and got me back on the road. Larry is an awesome guy. I've been to 4 different shops I take it to Carpenters they point out exactly what was wrong with my truck. Other then my fuel pump.If you want it done right go to Carpenters.

We have been taking our vehicles to Carpenter's(formerly Scanlan's) since we moved here 11 years ago. Larry, Kevin and Eric go above and beyond to take good care of us as well as our cars. For example, once my old vehicle broke down outside of town and Eric called a tow truck and asked the driver to drop me off at my home on the way back to the shop.I had discussed with them if it was time to sell my old vehicle and Larry went back in his computer system and calculated the amount of money we have spent on this vehicle in repairs. He concluded for us that he didn't foresee any big repairs looming and the vehicle still had plenty more years left in it. As Larry said, "...much cheaper than a car payment." And no, it's not because if we bought a new car that we wouldn't be taking it there. In fact instead of driving into the Mini dealership in Schaumburg to have our Mini serviced we take it to Carpenter's.I've stopped in before to have them take a quick look at something and they performed a minor repair and said "no charge" for being a loyal customer. If I have ever had a concern after a repair they have followed through to my complete satisfaction. Kevin and Eric have worked with Larry since we began taking our cars there and are highly competent!!I highly recommend Carpenter's!!!

Two tires were losing air, but had no leaks. They explained the problem & I asked about the little cracks in sidewalls. He came out, looked w me & said was dryrot. Should be okay for a bit unless I do highway driving that could be more dangerous for a blowout. No pressure to buy. Gave me a quote for a full set and for just cleaning up the aluminum wheel corrosion that caused tires to lose air. I came back now for the set and they honored my quote for $400 for 4 tires. I've moved out of town, but will still only go to Carpenters. Call them & you'll see what kind of quality service they provide. You'll be shocked at their low quotes too.

Took my car there to replace a brake line. Told me they would fix it right away, and it sat untouched for days. Told them I needed it back for work and I would take it somewhere else. They charged me over 100 for nothing as a inspection fee and did nothing but tell me what I told them first. After the manager ass swiped my card, he got very rude and picked a fight with me. Called me names and literally followed me to my car. He said nobody could do the job before I went back to work. My close friend did it for me in about an hour in a half in his own garage. Complete joke manager.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Larry and his fine team at Carpenters Auto & Transmission Repair for the high level of customer service and expertise they have shown me personally and professional. My initial visit was for my own personal vehicle and vehicle with a great level of sentimental value that was a gift from my parents in 1986. After years of trying to trust and working with other companies I was left so unsatisfied with the job done that I became overly hesitant to try anyone else. I simply accepted that the problems that I had continued to have for years would be something that I would have to live with. I had traveled passed Carpenters Auot & Transmission Repair many times over the years, but never stopped. But a few months ago I stopped in and after a long conversation with Larry my confidence was reignited and a week later I dropped off my vehicle. After years of ongoing problems Carpenters Auto & Transmission Repair returned my vehicle with all issues addressed. From the moment I started the vehicle I knew I had found my new auto shop. Within the next couple months he has gone on to work on my dads vehicles and my nieces vehicle, all with the same level of care and expertise.Because of our families personal experience with Larry and his shop, I did not hesitate to turn to him professionally with my agencies van. Working at non profit our companys van is invaluable as we transport youth and adults to school, activities, and events every day all year round. But as a nonprofit we have to be good stewards of our dollars and choose companies that embrace our mission and support the work we do in the community. Our van had major electrical issues, transmission, and brakes. It has been 2 months since Carpenters Auto & Transmission Repair serviced our van and because of the thorough work done, we are able to adequately and safely serve our customers!I would highly recommend others to visit Larry and Carpenters Auto & Transmission Repair for any of your personal or professional needs. Great job to both Larry and his team!

I purchased an older truck and took it to Carpenters to get checked over good and take care of some items. They did a thorough check and replaced a number of parts keeping me informed on the costs/options along the way. It runs perfectly now.

Brought my vehicle in for a few repairs. The bill was getting pretty high for what needed to be done. I told the owner that I was going to go and think about it. He got pissed and said "good waste of a damn day" as he walked out to the shop. He was "looking" at my vehicle for less than an hr. I called autozone and picked up the parts myself for a 1/3rd the price and did the repairs myself. Once I told him I wanted to think about it, it was out front in less than 30sec. Amazed me it took close to an hr to look at it, and less than 30 sec to push it out the door. Won't be returning.

You would get get -3 stars if their was an option. This place refused to swap my caliper out for a new one. Who does that? My guess is that he wanted me up sale me on pads and rotors and I have new rotors and pairs. No wonder why all these mechanic shop are closing & the alley mechanics are taking over. They do what our guys won t & their not con artists or at least try to be lol.

Do not go to this shop. They had a loyal customer that did business with them for years that they totally scammed. This customer, an elderly widow, was tricked into selling her car to them for 1/2 its value. Now they are hiding behind their attorney and will not return the car. Meanwhile, this elderly woman has no vehicle and cannot cash the check because she is trying to get the car back. Shame on you Larry Carpenter! Do not support this place. Teach these people that this community will not tolerate the exploitation of the elderly.

Scammed today by the owner. We authorized only front brake repair and they did front and rear, then wanted the add'l $200 in cash. Will not be going back.
