The experience was exemplary on every level. The room was clean, cute, and comfortable. The town and the views are gorgeous. The proprietors were so warm and wonderful. My best friend was married here and it was a fairytale experience. And the breakfast was amazing! 10/10. Whether you're just looking for a cute B&B for a weekend getaway, or a wedding venue, I can't recommend the Green Tree Inn enough.

Such a cute b&b, with wonderful hosts. Rooms were nice, clean, and comfortable. The innkeepers, Connie and Gary, were very nice and knowledgeable about activities in the area. Breakfast was so tasty and large enough that we didn't eat again until the special afternoon treat was there for us to enjoy. Definitely recommend staying here, it is very peaceful in this little village.

The Green Tree Inn is the best bed & breakfast I have ever experienced. We rented the Gazebo outside & the rooms for our wedding and we are so happy with our choice. The bridal party used the common area & antique room for getting ready and it was perfect. Lots of natural light for makeup and a private room for the bride. Connie made us sweet treats in the afternoon and they were phenomenal!!!!!!All of the rooms are DARLING. They all have a unique feel and decor that we loved. It felt like staying at a family members house. The hospitality is so kind. Connie and Gary have a very kind and warm energy.Highly recommend The Green Tree Inn

My husband and I were gifted a night here for our wedding by my parents. It was absolutely beautiful! The room was romantic and super clean, and we loved looking through the journals documenting the stories from other guests! Such a neat little touch! Connie and Gary were so amazing, and made us feel right at home we definitely want to come back for our anniversary! We 100% recommend that you give the Green Tree Inn a visit!

An off the beaten track jewel. Elsah is an exceptionally quaint village. Well, worth exploration. Driving along the Great River Road to arrive at Green Tree is majestic. The breakfast is always delicious and plentiful. Connie and Gary are wonderful hosts. We have enjoyed many conversations during breakfastRooms: The rooms are comfortable and immaculate.Nearby activities: There is plenty to do in Alton and Grafton. During peach season, it's well worth a trip on the Brussels Ferry to Calhoun County for the best peaches. We think even better than Georgia peachesSafety: Quite and secure.Food & drinks: The breakfast "entre" served by Connie is always delicious and usually preceded by a mixture of fruit topped with wonderful yogurt. There is a special condiment that Gary can recommend.

What a wonderful stay! Connie and Gary were amazing hosts and the breakfasts were wonderful. Very clean, cozy room, value priced, and close to everything. It was so relaxing to have a nice, quiet place to stay while being so close to Grafton and Alton. Elsah is a hidden gem and is worth a visit, even if you are just passing through. 100% would book again.

My daughter and I loved the green tree inn! It was a perfect place for us during our visit to Alton and Grafton Illinois. Connie made us a gluten-free/lactose-free breakfast to accommodate our difficult dietary restrictions. We were super grateful and enjoyed every bit of it! Highly recommend this little gem in the middle of nowhere!Nearby activities: Waterslides are three miles awayFood & drinks: Perfect location to go to restaurants in the neighboring areas.

I absolutely LOVED the Green Tree Inn. My last-minute getaway to the quaint town of Elsah was more than perfect. Connie and Gary were so gracious and accommodating. The room was exceptionally clean and welcoming. The self check-in was a breeze. The afternoon warm sweet treat and fabulous breakfast were beyond my imagination. Thanks to Gary, I got to see the impressive campus of Principia College and the wildlife center a few miles from the property. Thanks, Connie and Gary, for the amazing weekend!

INCREDIBLE. Absolutely loved my stay. I took my lovely girlfriend for a weekend getaway and we were both very comfortable and impressed. Connie cooked us an amazing breakfast, and Gary took us on a nice little tour of the town museum. Elsah is an adorable town that could almost pass as a movie set, and the green tree inn sure knows how to make you feel welcome there. Worth every penny!

My husband and I stayed at the Green Tree Inn for our 1st babymoon. We had a truly wonderful weekend with hosts Connie and Gary and exploring the area. The inn is tucked in a charming village of Elsah with a few shops to check out but also very close to Grafton and Alton which has a lot of dining options. Connie had a lot of great recommendations for dinner! We were about 15 minutes from Pere Marquette state park which has a lot of pretty hiking and a lodge with a full restaurant. My favorite part of the stay was the wonderful breakfasts we had homemade by Connie but Gary was also a very attentive host. The inn itself and our room were cozy and neat. Our room had all the amenities we needed including shampoo and soap and a hair dryer. Would definitely recommend the Green Tree Inn for a quiet weekend getaway!!

This is a very nice B&B in Elsah, Illinois. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable. It opened out onto two separate porches with seating, one of which was screened-in. The owners are very nice and friendly. Connie's breakfasts were prompt and delicious. She doesn't let you leave hungry! She was also very accommodating to dietary restrictions, which really meant a lot to us considering the extra effort that meant for her. Her afternoon sweet treats were delicious, too. Gary is very knowledgeable about the local history, and was gracious enough to give us a private tour of the local museum when it was normally closed. The village of Elsah is very picturesque and rich in history, and is located between Grafton and Alton, both of which have nice shops, restaurants, and other attractions. Very nice stay!

We had a wonderful stay at this most charming inn. Innkeepers Connie and Gary are such gracious hosts and welcome their guests with sincerity and kindness. Our room was cozy and exceptionally clean, and the common area where you can sit and relax was likewise cozy with a gas fireplace to add to the ambience. The homemade breakfasts made by Connie are absolutely wonderful! And you will be treated with delicious homemade baked desserts that are served every afternoon. The inn is located in the quaint village of Elsah where you can stroll through the town and visit a few unique shops. Gary gave a tour of the town's museum which we enjoyed very much. We can't say enough good things about this lovely inn, and we definitely plan to return. Thank you Connie and Gary!

Had never heard of Elsah, Illinois until I planned a drive on the Great River Road along the west side of the state. Found and booked a room at The Green Tree Inn online and was very glad I did. The entire village is on the National Register of Historic Places, dotted with old stone homes and nestled against the bluffs of the Mississippi River, which is just across the highway from the town. Most of the historic loop in the village is an easy walk around this lovely B&B. Connie welcomes you with a tour of the establishment and delicious freshly baked sweets in the gathering room. Eventually, you ll meet Gary, her husband, for conversations about the area, historic and present day. Their residence is separate, attached to the guest area by a breezeway. Since they have their own kitchen, the kitchen in the gathering area (used for preparing breakfast) is available to the guests after breakfast prep is cleared. There is all-day access to coffee and tea as well as bottled water and sodas in the dining area, plus the baked goods on offer in the afternoon. The breakfast was delicious! Homemade granola, cooked apples with whipped cream, a German pancake with my choice of bacon as a side was the best breakfast of my trip! Connie is also able to accommodate any dietary necessities. The guest rooms are very private, clean and comfortable with luxurious bed linens and plenty of bath linens. My room had its own heating unit, so I could adjust the temp to my preference. Rooms open directly to outside to a covered porch that gives a homey feel as well as more privacy (no bumping into other guests in a closed hallway). I had the only ground floor en-suite. It was very quiet and provided easy access to the gathering area, which includes 2 dining tables and a comfortable seating area with fireplace, the guest-access kitchen and Gary s Treasure Room where his finds from antique shops and auctions as well as cookbooks are available for sale. Connie and Gary were very friendly and helpful with travel info about the area. I only stayed one night, but with local historical sites, beautiful views and shopping and restaurants a short drive south to Alton and north to Grafton, a longer stay would have been delightful. I would definitely recommend The Green Tree Inn to travelers, not just as a travel stop but as a stop-and-stay destination along your trip. I plan to return to enjoy a longer stay myself.

Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had a peaceful stay. I had originally wanted to stay in a hotel that I had stayed in for a conference, but when they were fully booked I found this inn instead. I am so happy I did, too! The village of Elsah is quiet and safe, about 30 minutes from St. Louis. Connie is a great cook and made sure we had more than enough to eat each morning, and Gary told us stories about the area and gave us recommendations on where to eat in St. Louis. We will be staying here again, thank you!

I was blown away by this BnB experience! The rooms are described very accurately in their website. Three of them are in the 2nd floor so just take note if ever any of you wouldn't want to be climbing upstairs. There's no view but it isn't needed - the whole village of Elsah is nice and this is a place you'd be happy to hang outside and walk around, very walkable! Beds are comfy, the towels are high quality, I cannot think of any complaints, really. Again, maybe another observation, the bed of the Aeries room is quite high - I needed to like "jump" a bit to get to the bed.The service by hosts Connie and Gary are remarkable. They were very helpful, hospitable, and the best part probably is the breakfast they serve. It's a personalized experience - they take note of any allergies or certain foods you might not like to eat! The breakfast is undeniably excellent. I might have felt like eating in a 5-star hotel with their breakfasts having that home-made touch. This place exceeded my expectations. If you want a charming place with character you can truly relax at, with a very personal level of service, I'm recommending this place for those visiting the Illinois Great River Road area. Thanks Connie and Gary!If you will be checking in late, just mind that they request you to notify them because standard check-in time for this place is up to 5pm.

Yesterday was an amazing day for us. My significant other and I took a overnight road trip from St.Louis to Alton, Illinois and Grafton ,Illinois.Driving along the Great River Road and the Mississippi River was beautiful. As we drove further along we ended up in a area called Elsah, Illinois. Just as part of our adventure we turned on a small road in Elsah, Illinois. Drove down this charming road and come across this lovely property called Green Tree Inn which was a bed and breakfast. The rest is history for us. We spoke with the owners Connie and Gary Davis. They showed us numerous rooms, the property and all the amenities available.I would rate this place as an A+ on everylevel. Cleanliness and great comfort plus charm were top of list.End of a wonderful story. Spent the night and was served the most delicious breakfast of our choice. It was beyond expectations and I cannot wait to do it all over again.

We have never stayed in a Bed and Breakfast prior to this. It was a lovely experience. Connie and Gary were hosts that you could only dream of. Connie is a wonderful cook and made sure we all left will a full stomach... no one left hungry, that is for sure. Her sweet treats in the afternoon were to die for. Gary was just a joy to talk with, he is extremely knowledgeable in the culture and history of the area. He also played some cornhole with us... he really got the hang of it, because he and his partner (our uncle) kicked our butts. It was really a joy to stay at the Green Tree Inn. We will definitely be returning for another visit and might just make it a annual thing.

We recently stayed at the Green Tree Inn over New Year's because we needed to get away from the city, but didn't want to go too far in case of bad weather. Elsah is a perfect getaway because it is between Grafton and Alton for dining out or sightseeing, and only a 45 minute drive for us. The breakfasts were amazing and then we also paid Connie to have our New Year's meal prepared at the Inn so that we would not have to go out that evening. The Inn is set in the middle of the historic district and there are sidewalks and trails for walking and running when you want to enjoy fresh air. Most of the rooms have outside seating available and the unseasonably warm New Year's Eve meant that I was able to read outdoors that day. Beverages including soda, water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and hot cider are always available and a fresh baked treat is available each afternoon. We also enjoyed reading by the fireplace in the common room and a private tour of the Elsah Museum during our stay. Connie and Gary recommended a driving tour of Principia College on the bluff, which was absolutely beautiful. We can't wait to come back!

This was truly amazing experience. I was passing through on business and they were quick to help me get booked and were so understanding when I had to come in later than traditionally they have check in. Connie and Gary were so kind and being welcomed after a 5 hour drive with cookies and coffee made my might. The room was clean, comfortable, and felt like home! And the breakfast the following morning was fantastic. If you're doing any business with local colleges or on vacation, this is absolutely the place to stay.

Snuck away from St. Louis for a weekend of quiet and bald eagle watching in February. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. Gracious hosts on a beautiful property with extremely comfortable rooms. Great snacks and AMAZING breakfast. Gary and Connie we will be back. If you are thinking about visiting the Grafton/Alton area this place is a no brainer.

This was the bed and breakfast stay I never knew I needed! Connie and Gary were beyond gracious hosts: so kind, friendly, and accommodating. From the moment we stepped foot on residence, we were treated like family and welcomed right in. I always feared a BnB would be too rigid in schedule, but here everything was laid back, slow placed, and cozy. It was a real struggle to leave, as it felt like we'd made a home. They've definitely set the bar for future BnB stays!Loves: Grafton 5 minutes down the road, afternoon "sweet treats", the easy conversations with Connie and Gary, breakfast was amazing, service was top notch, rooms were clean and cozy, soft but firm beds with the comfiest sheets, quiet peaceful town.Didn't love: having to leave. We'll be back!

This is a beautiful little Bed & Breakfast Inn with 5 rooms. 1 room is on the first floor, as is the Community Living Room & Kitchen. Rooms 3, 4, & 5 have a communion hall way leading out the back & could have group's share togetherness. It's a beautiful location just off of the Great River Road along the Mississippi River. The owner's Gary & Connie are very friendly. I'm going to recommend this to all my family & friend's.
