I worked with Steve and had an excellent experience! I took my '12 Chevy Sonic in for an oil change and estimate for repairs. I've never felt so comfortable with a mechanic. They took the time to explain everything that was going on with my vehicle. They even helped me rank the repairs, so I knew what needed to be done first and what could wait. It was a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend this team!

I brought my 2011 Charger R/T into Merlin a few times over the last handful of weeks with a persistent P2096 engine code issue (lean fuel trim post-catalytic converter), and Steve and Shane took excellent care of me and the vehicle. They eventually diagnosed several coolant leaks and suspected a bad head gasket to be the cause, and I was ready to replace it along with several other engine parts at $3700 total. Eventually, however, they called with good news on further inspection they found the heads/head gasket were never compromised, and that the issues could be resolved with a much more manageable overhaul coolant seals around the engine at $2800. They could have taken advantage of me and continued at the original $3700 quote without saying anything to me, but chose to do business the right way by taking care of the customer with good diagnostic procedures and doing only the work that was necessary to solve my problem. Since picking the car up it has been running great, and I expect that to continue. Would highly recommend Merlin to anyone needing auto care and will return again in the future.

Everyone is always so nice and they are pretty flexible with appointments. There have been a few time I called about a problem I was having with my car and they usually let me drop it off the night before and work on it the next day. The last time I went in there they had parked my car in the adjacent lot and drove it up to the door so I wouldn't have to go get it. The work they do is also pretty quick and affordable which is great!

This was my first time at Merlin's, and I went in for an oil change, but it was such a pleasant experience thanks to Jaz at the front desk. They did a free inspection for me, and Jaz sat with me and took the time to explain any future work my car may need to get done. She wasn't overwhelming with any of the information and assured me that my car is still safe to drive. This made me feel safe and shows how much they care for their customers. I will definitely choose Merlin's for any future car needs!

Don't have any words to explain how disappointed I am with this team! First off I only had a oil change done that was this past Monday the 4th. I got the oil change done because I was going to be traveling to South Carolina. Some people may seem like this is not a big deal but they did not reset the oil life monitor on the vehicle. For $60 that should have been done by a team of professionals. I usually get the car done at the local dealership so I don't have any issues with warranty claims. However they need to understand that little things like this tend to place doubt on if they really did the job correctly. I was there for over an hour & early for my appointment at 1 pm. So really for $60 there's no reason that this was not done. Now I have to wait to reset oil life in the future. Hopefully I get compensated for my time and it doesn't screw up my vehicle in anyway! Because while I was driving my dash lit up and scared the hell out of me! Since it was 3 or 4 in the morning yesterday, almost to 10 hours into a 15-hour trip the last thing I didn't want was something wrong with the car. Anyways please do better in the future. I have pictures was going to call today but I will on Monday hoping to get a discount on the future oil change.

I have been with merlins in DeKalb Illinois for over a decade and they have not steered me wrong they have gotten my card fixed with help with making sure I have a good reliable car, shane, Cesar, Steve,Nick and the whole crew is the best and i wont go to anyone else except for Merlin

Merlin has been my trusted go-to for 16 years! Everything from oil changes and headlights to substantial repairs, I have been treated with respect, attention, and genuine care. Love the staff- shout out to Shane for his friendly assistance today! And as always, Steve is a wonderful asset to the team. I am overjoyed to share this review of my positive experiences and truly hope it will bring more people to this deserving gem in DeKalb!

I been going to Merlin s for over 12.years .I m in a place in life that I cant work on my vehicles and I use to sell used cars.I took everything to them and they have been honest and very professional and the Prices are very reasonable.I had my wife s car done by them today. It runs better than it ever has . 4 new tires alignment and rear brakes, cam shaft sensor tires balanced and it s amazing how much better the car is.Thank you all for your great service and professionalism.Randy and Jan Smith

They mechanics are nice, however they sold me an old battery that had been sitting for almost a year. Along with that, my car got Improperly diagnosed multiple times, charging me for at least $300 worth of things that weren t the problem. They want you to save money, at the cost getting good parts. I don t know why I kept coming here.

After fixing two selinoids on the way home my starter died at a gas station. Nick and Adrian meet me at my car and did a inspection to determine the starter had died. They proceeded to secure a tow truck back to the shop. It's been along time since I have had this unbelievable customer service. Marlins is now my shop for my vehicles

I went to Merlins to get my power steering pump fixed due to a leak, I didn t have any other problems. Once I got my car back I then had acceleration issues and suddenly a new break problem (scraping sound) so I ended up letting them keep my car and try and fix the now new issues. A few days later I go to pick it up and now have the car again and it is not fixed and it s actually worse off than when I went the first time, the break issues are gone- but- all of the lights are on and it will not accelerate. Rpms are going up like crazy but zero acceleration no matter how much I press on the gas. Slightly disappointed in Merlins.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I am a single mom of 3 on a budget. I had an appraisal for replacing my air conditioner in Malta, IL., they quoted me 3K and said they had financing. Obviously I could not afford that. I contacted Merlin's and worked with Emerson and Steve. They went out of their way, on late weekday afternoon, to drive all the way to Aurora, back and still have my van complete with AC by 6 pm for 1/2 the price!!!! They were awesome and they not only have my future business, but also the other 2 cars in my family that my boy's own. Thank you so much for your honesty and savings!!! I am happy that merlins fix my car today,since yesterday they found my serpentine belt was damaged and it was no good.if I was to ignore my car signs then i will be stuck in the road.happy they fix my car today,grateful for them.

PLEASE read this before using the company.I am a self-taught mechanic coming from generations of professionally and self-taught/trained mechanics - and I am currently working on a vehicle that has had work done by this shop (I have receipts for the work). First off, whenever replacing a valve cover gasket you should ALWAYS replace the other side as well to prevent overworking an old one. This shop did not. The valve cover bolts aren t even torqued down to spec, they re hand tightened because I broke them loose with a small wrench. The shift cable they claimed was replaced was nowhere near replaced as it was the factory cable that I was able to break in two with ease. The vacuum hub they replaced was also damaged and nowhere near non-factory. Please don t use this shop if you wish to save money.
