2006 Saab 9-3 having ECU problems. Over the course of 3 weeks, the crew at Saab Tech (Chris, Omar and Brian) spent hours testing and installing different units I had purchased through Ebay. This is very time consuming with installation and programming. Finally the 4th ECU worked. I only got charged for the 1 install. Unbelievable. I highly recommend these guys!

I suggested my mom take her Saab 9-3 to this shop when she had an issue with the vehicle dying out. They gave us a recommendation which I wasn't too confident in but still authorized the repair since they assured us it would fix the issue (vehicle dying out when coming to a stop). My mom took the vehicle and it died out again on the way home. They were quick to get the vehicle towed back to them, and after looking at it again they found the issue. There was some initial back and forth but the owner made the decision to get it taken care of for us and I feel that speaks volumes of how a business views it's customers. The diagnostic process is never an easy one but when your clients are your main focus, that's when you are able to build a successful business. Thank you Chris and Mark!Service: Auto engine diagnostic

We brought our 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible in for a couple things. First it was not starting all of the time, then the top was not closing all of the way, and the horn stopped working. We live in Wisconsin and drove there because I have used them in the past, years ago, new owner now. They called told me the issue with the starter and the quote and while it was there I asked them to give me a full tune up. NOTHING was wrong with this car other than what I listed here. Two days later we drive back to Chicago to get our Saab and I asked them about the horn, they forgot and said they would look at it really quick. 3 guys worked on it, more of less just yanking the steering wheel around as we watched. We told them forget about the horn. As I am driving home I look down and see that my gear shifter plate was off, then the volume on the steering wheel no longer worked. No biggy. A couple days later we go to take it out, and it does not start! I was infuriated. Finally after a jump it started. THEN, we try to put the top up and guess what...it doesn't go up all of the way, they said it was a loose cable and they fixed it. NO they did not. One top of all of the things we paid $2,624.26 for, when we did get the car started and pulled it out, there is oil all over our garage floor. I called them and they said that we must have had a leak before NO WE DID NOT, then they said that if the roof is not working and the car won't start we can bring it back, but if they have to fix anything on top of what they did they will charge us more. WHAT? We will not ever bring our car back there nor would I recommend anyone doing it. We now have it at another repair shop to see what the oil leak is and the other issues we originally brought it in for.Service: Electrical repair

I started taking my car her upon recommendation from a friend. First time was for a coolant low warning, which they figured out was a bad sensor just looking at it. After that was fixed I brought it in for oil change and regular maintenance. They discovered that my car needed a major tune up...which I thought had been being done all the other places I had taken it over the last few years, evidently the only thing the other places were doing was changing the oil and air filters. For a few years I had had a number of mechanics trying to figure out what the problem was with a knocking noise I would get every once in a while. I got a lot of theories and "fixes" of which none of them did anything to fix the problem. One of the trips to some other place cost me $700 for no good reason other than the mechanic breaking something and telling me it was bad to begin with, then charging me to fix it. I hadn't mentioned the knocking noise to the guys here at Saab Tech because I pretty much just gave up on trying to get it fixed. While they were doing the tune up they discovered some broken coil springs and a bad strut. Fixing that fixed the knocking noise no one else had been able to figure out.Since I started taking my car here it's been running better than ever, and I'm confident that what needs to get fixed is getting fixed, and is getting done right. They also have been charging me less than anyone else to fix things or do maintenance.I'm pretty much only going to take my Saab to these guys from now on.

Fewer mechanics out there every day who really know Saabs, especially"real" Saabs built prior to 1994. These guys are the real deal, and they know these cars. They also have a treasure trove of Saab parts, and can usually come up with things that few others can. Been going to them for nearly 20 years for everything on my '88 and '93 900's. Highly recommended.

As the owner of a 2006 Saab 9-5 Aero and having formerly owned a 1990 900 Turbo Convertible, 2008 9-3 Aero, and 2000 9-5 Gary Fisher this is the only place to go in Chicagoland for repairs. They know Saabs. They fix Saabs quickly. My only concern and the reason for 4/5 stars is the cost is about 15-20% higher than a comparable shop. However they bring expertise in the marque that other shops don t have, so maybe it s worth it.

I've been going to Saab Tech for about 7 years and the owner is just plain awesome. I believe this is an Independent Saab Auto Repair place and all Kevin focuses in on are Saabs. He's honest, genuine and always listens to you.

I never stopped in but i spoke with Jos and he went above and beyond to help me out with solving the issue with my 99' Saab 9-3.He helped me out in finding the radio plugs and speaker connections. Nobody in the area knows about Saab like these guys and it shows. I will very happily be bringing my car in for service and fixes when I need to.Thanks alot for saving me a ton of hassle and time.

Bought a car online. Kevin both stated and wrote in ad "EVERYTHING WORKS AS IT SHOULD" and "WE REPAIRED EVERYTHING NEEDING ATTENTION". Upon receipt of vehicle, the radio did not work (had a shorted out antenna), the cassette player had a cassette stuck in it that could be removed, and the 6 disc cd changer was missing. Brake warning light won't turn off. Blatantly lied about condition of vehicle. When asked about it, Kevin has refused to answer or return calls, refused to answer texts, refused to answer communication through eBay. Filing a police report this morning at urging of eBay as well. Was so excited to get the car. That joy is gone.

Mark took my 2007 9-5 in on a Monday afternoon, diagnosed the broken brake vacuum and had it fixed by 13:00 on Tuesday. Cost was reasonable and in line with experienced euro shops. Kudos to Mark and his partners!

Bottom line: if you have a Saab and live in the Chicagoland area, go to to Saab Tech. These guys eat, sleep and breathe Saabs and are the definition of a "great indie shop." I've been taking my car to them for the past four years - they always shoot you strait on what needs to be done/should be done/can be left alone, and even fix small things (blown fuses, headlights out) without you even asking for it.
