Midas in Carbondale is a fair shop. I got a great deal on an oil change. I called about a special and I paid as advertised. They didn't try to do anything without my permission. Also upfront and honest about work that needed to be done. Very happy with professional service.

Recently had a great experience here. Came in for a brake concern, the team were able to locate the issue, order the parts, and have the car finished within a few hours. I was walked through and asked permission before anything was done on my car, never felt pressured for any other fixes. In my opinion, the labor fee was extremely reasonable when compared with other places I've been to around carbondale. Will definitely return for any future car concerns!

Do Not Go Here! I know it's convenient but there is a reason why. Will explain further in a update. Right now getting the work done else where for half the price. Their diagnosis was waaayyy off.

Always fix the problem quickly at a price that doesn't completely wipe us out. Everything is completed in a timely manner and if there's an issue with a part they keep you informed.

I went to Midas for brake service and they did a good job. I was surprised at the overall price of the service being so high and later realized the brake coupon I provided at the time of scheduling was not applied to the invoice.

Terry and his crew were able to take care of a broken muffler on my car within one hour. Did not get any pressure to make unneeded repairs. Would recommend this shop to anyone. ThanksService: Auto exhaust system repairService: Auto exhaust system repair

Very Impressed with Midas. I called them last minute about my service engine soon light after going to a very unprofessional place in town. I asked about the diagnostic price and was told upfront. They were able to take me in right away and perform a diagnostic. Whole thing took maybe 10 minutes. They clearly explained the issue and gave me my key back. I really appreciated your professionalism and patience in the moment. Thank you !Service: Auto engine diagnostic

left the window down on the drivers side of my car for the 5 days it was there, while it rained so hard it hailed. in addition, my car was also left unlocked. i had to go get my car shampooed and detailed afterwards because the smell of the wet interior that was left in the hot sun for days was overwhelming. told the owner about it, and he said there s nothing i can do and gave me a coupon. will not be coming back.Services: Brakes, A/C installation & repair, Air conditioning

Terrible business. Paid $35 for a full car inspection to be done. They only looked at the issues i already knew about and took it upon themselves to charge me $50 in labor to replace the fuse for my Air Conditioning. Called them on their bs and he said to bring it back for the inspection. Pure laziness. Constantly calling the store back and getting no answer when I know for a fact they weren't busy with any cars is unprofessional

I brought my car in for a no crank diagnostic and at first the price sounded fair at $60. Then it changed to "oh I can't diagnose a car that won't crank, I need to replace the starter" *mind you I just changed out the starter 2 days before bringing my car to midas* I said whatever bc I had a lifetime warranty on my starter but he told me to take off the 2 bolts that hold on the starter and put them back on it would cost me $125. I was like ok whatever thinking he would still diagnose the vehicle but I was wrong. He informed me that it would be another $125/hr for the diagnostic that was originally $60 i declined and went to retrieve my car and saw the starter looked to be the exact same starter I had put on myself and the center console was pulled apart bc apparently you can't disconnect the shift cable under the hood to put It in neutral like the tow truck driver did to get it there and the only way was to pull apart my center console and leave it like that for me to fix. I'm glad I had It sent somewhere else bc these people are so unprofessional. When I was leaving the office at midas there was a man from midas outside trying to get into the car I had just pulled up in. I'm very irritated with the childish workers there *pointing fingers at ole Mr. Terry Lewis that got frustrated that I asked for proof that they provided me with the starter that I was paying him to have "put on" im never going here again and I'm surly not allowing any friends or family there either. Just disappointing guys get it together.

I took my car to Midas on 3/23/2016 for air seeping from flex pipes. Manager told me that I needed to replace flex pipes. I authorized him to do this. I paid $518 for the new flex pipe and installation, radiator hose, and oil change. About 2 days later, I started hearing a very loud noise from my car. I returned to Midas and had them check as to why. Manager told me that I needed a new muffler. The cost was going to be $485. I decided to have a second opinion due to he was going to order part. When I checked on order, Manager told me that he could not locate part and would have to order from elsewhere. He said that he had called but I could not locate that call so I doubted him. I took my car to another Auto Shop and he told me that it was not the muffler but that a piece of pipe in the flex pipe that had been replaced at Midas that was causing problem. I contacted Midas and Manager said that was not possible. I had another Auto shop fix the problem. I went to Midas asking for them to reimburse me for the work done by Another Auto to fix problem they caused. They have refused to do so. I have photos and work order from Brad's Auto stating what was the cause of the noise.

Cheap oil change service. $5 off ($20) coupon goes around in the mail every so often. This includes tire rotation, fluid top off, tire filling, and visual inspection. Great deal for general maintenance. Been there multiple times. Haven't had any issues with it.However, I got my brakes changed a couple months back, and my car shuttered when breaking at high speeds. It's calmed down a bit since then, but nevertheless, still not the best service when it comes to brake work.Terry is a nice guy, and I have no real complaints with this Midas. I wouldn't recommend this shop for work to be done to someone's car, but for regular oil changes and whatnot, they're great!

Let me start by saying that I should have read the other reviews on this location prior to trusting them with my vehicle. Had I done some research, I might not have made that mistake. So often, poor decisions made with servicing your car can take weeks or even months to manifest. In my case, it was readily apparent that something was wrong before I even left the parking lot.Last Friday, my car started making noises indicating that I needed to replace my wheel bearing. I called around and no one could fix it before Monday, but when I called Midas, the shop owner, said they could get it done in a couple hours. Maybe that should have been my first clue that I should have kept looking, but I couldn't wait till Monday since I live 60 miles from the shop and had to be at work early the next morning.I brought the car over and outlined my issue. They eventually confirmed that my wheel bearing needed to be replaced so I left the car with them. I wasn't able to pick it up and drive it before they closed for the night, but naively trusted that they'd done the job correctly and wasn't concerned. I was wrong. The new bearing began making awful noises before I even left the parking lot. In addition, in the process of replacing the bearing, they somehow caused my speedometer, abs system, hill start assist, and traction control to all completely stop functioning. I don't believe they drove the car to confirm the success of the replacement, because I would like to think that even if the alarm bells and dash lights didn't alert them, the lack of speedometer function would have been as obvious to them as it was to me that something was wrong. The shop was closed all weekend, so I was forced to live with the problems. I brought the car back when the shop reopened Monday morning and tried to explain the situation to the owner. Before he'd looked at the car or even allowed me to finish talking, he started trying to tell me that I needed to replace the other bearing and that what I was experiencing was probably already there, I just hadn't noticed it over the noise of the first faulty bearing. While it may be true that the others could be nearing the end of their life expectancy since they have the same mileage on them, it was a little offensive to me to suggest I somehow just hadn't noticed this new horrendous grinding noise and lack of speedometer prior to bringing the car in initially.I went on a test drive with the tech and he confirmed that the brand new bearing they installed was defective. The owner said that they wouldn't charge me to fix it and they would replace it that day at which point I reiterated that it was an absolute necessity since I live over an hour away. At about 10 am, after an hour in their waiting area, I was informed that the part they needed was out of stock and they wouldn't receive it until 2 pm. I left, but was assured again that they would get it done before they closed. At about 4 pm, after hearing nothing all day long, I got a voicemail from Terry saying that they weren't able to get the part and they'd have it done "some time tomorrow". There was no apology for the inconvenience or any explanation for the other problems that had materialized. My 80 year old grandparents had to make a two hour round trip to pick me up. The shop never even notified me when the work was done. I had to call them myself to check the status.I understand that unexpected things can happen and defective products can slip through the cracks. That's just life. But the utter lack of respect and concern that the management displayed for his customers was downright appalling, as was the rudely dismissive attitude he had when I came back and presented him with the new issues, as though I had somehow caused them myself. I came here because they said they could fix my problem in a couple hours and it ended up being a five day ordeal. I will never be back to this Midas again and honestly wouldn't recommend this location to my worst enemy.

These guys do quick work at reasonable rates and can usually fit me in on short notice. The manager is friendly and seems to run a tight shop: the waiting area, restrooms, and (importantly) the garage are clean and neat. They have a 'fridge full of pop for customers who are waiting for their cars.On several occasions, I've people stop in with sudden car problems: electrical, cooling, tires, brakes, etc. The manager always goes out to have a look and is quick to get folks going again.

Went in with an oil leak from an unknown source, turned out to be a valve cover gasket. Terry and the staff took care of it super quick and were very reasonable. Easy to deal with. Would recommend.Service: General repairs & maintenanceService: General repairs & maintenance

Went in for my car overheating, they said they fixed things that weren t on the bill, but they didn t, and when it overheated as soon as I picked it up I called and complained. I was told I don t know what to tell you, it s on there I was also told over the phone that they replaces another part, that didn t get replaced at all. They returned my car with no oil, no break fluid, and charged $125 in labor for a radiator cap and fluid. Not happy, will not be going back.Service: A/C installation & repair

Extremely rude people working here . They are absolute trash !Their prices are outrageous !They threaten to keep your car if you decide not to let them do work . I also stand by my strong belief that the owner of this establishment is a heavy drug user . I've had 3 HORRIBLE experiences coming here. Once alone and 2 other times with a friend . Always the same results .

I plead with you with all my heart never ever under any circumstance take your vehicle into here to get repaired. Let me now tell you my horror story. I brought my 2014 BMW 328D into Midas to get my brakes done, the brakes got done all in well, but what I didn t notice until 3 months later was the biggest headache of my life. When I went to go get new tires installed on my car the tire shop told me that the wheel lock key was destroyed. Knowing Midas was the last ones to install my wheels I went to them to correct the problem. When I went in I told them apparently someone had impacted the key and destroyed the pattern, they told me that the only way to install the lug boots was to impact them even though clearly written on the key it says do not impact. Apparently a torque wrench is to much work for them. So they said the only way they could get them off was if they welded it and risked destroying my wheels. I knew since the service was done 3 months ago I could not process a claim and said no. I took it to 3 other shops to try to get this removed and all of them said it could not be done without destroying the wheels. At this point I decided to drive my car an hour and 45 minutes to have BMW do thyou work, this really pushed my limits on one of my run flat tires since it was flat, thank god it made it. Once at bmw they said the pigs had been so over tightened that they would have to drill out the lugs. Luckily they were able to do it without destroying any of the wheels. In total they cost just to have my lugs removed costed more then the entire brake job Midas did. I repeat if you do take your car here supervise everything they do because they will take the lazy way out and end up costing you more in the long run.

I was a loyal customer at Meineke for many years located down the road from Midas which closed shop. I had to find a new place to get my oil change done and so I decided to give Midas a try partly because I had a flyer advertising a basic oil change for under $25 bucks. So, I scheduled an appointment and showed up and was told my vehicle takes a certain grade of oil and it only comes in synthetic which caught me off guard. Automobile is not my forte so I asked them to do the oil change that my vehicle needs. My final bill was almost $100.00 bucks. They charged me about 35 dollars in labor which completely ruined my day. I felt completely ripped off because it was the most expensive oil change of my life.Upon getting back I checked my receipts from previous oil changes at Meineke and they only charged me $10.00 in labor and my dealer $14.00 compare that to what Midas charged me for labor. Just out of curiosity, I also checked the price of full synthetic oil at Walmart and other websites for 5qt and you could buy one for under $25 bucks manufactured by Mobil and Valvoline. I called the dealership later to find if I required synthetic for my vehicle and they said no. Price quote of oil change at the dealership was less than $40.00 bucks. I felt completely ripped off and foolish. I am never going back there ever again. I advise everyone to stay away from this place. For what Midas charges for labor for oil change you could get a complete oil change done some place else.

Went here in 2016. I needed new brake pads and two rotors needed turned. They called and said they would have to replace the rotors and I said that would be fine. I didnt ask the price. the crook charged me 1800 dollars and got defensive when I asked questions. I went back and realized that I had been robbed and called him and he backtracked and I told him what a horrible thing they did to rip me off, and so on. I never went back to see him. Now I find out that they didnt even replace my rotors at all and they staight charged me over 1800 for changing brake pads. I need new rotors again less than 2 years later. Rotors didnt even outlast the brake pads! What a joke this place and a crook of person guy who runs this place is. This is not MIDAS, this is a lowlife crook using the Midas brand to rip people off! Plain and simple. This Midas doesnt reflect others I have been to. I am still about it disgusted to this day. This story basically runs congruent with most of these posts. Stay away from this place!

My expierence was awful. I brought my car in to have the tire sensor replaced. Not only did I have to come on 4 times, but my tire light never shut off. About a month later I brought my car up to chicago to my usual mechanic to look at. He found that the carbondale midas put on the wrong sensor then disposed of the old sensor IN MY TIRE! I drove around for a month with an old tire sensor in my tire. The staff was rude, careless, and did not know what they were doing. Do not go here. Pay a little extra to have it done right.

Worse service ever!!! Went in to get a sensor changed and they ended up busting my radiator. I had to spend $425 fixing their mess up. I've called headquarters and left messages and no one calls back. I talked to the mechanic and he was very rude and unprofessional. Never go here!! Or any Midas!!

Called a week in advance to make an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. I received a brochure in the mail for both services for only $20 I thought it was a great deal. Made the appointment for 11am because the man on the phone said the store is open until 12 on Saturdays. Came to the store 15 minutes early to find noone there. The door was locked and no cars were in the lot. I called the store and noone answered. Another car drove up and said he was coming in for a walk in oil change he said he has been trying to get his oil changed here for 2 weeks with no luck, he said the store always closes early or they don't answer the phone. I called the mt vernon store to see if they knew the managers cell phone number, the office manager of the mtv store was very nice and told me she was sorry but the carbondale store is individually owned and she only has the store number but the manager should give me a oil change for free when I call on Monday. Called the store today and asked to speak with the manager he said that "I didn't make it on the books but he would give me a great deal if I sat up a new appointment". I asked for the Saturday availablity as I go to school full time through the week he said he does not do oil changes on Saturday and is only open by appointment. Horrible customer service. The store hours on the building say they are open until 12 on Saturdays. I understand why they had such a good deal bc no one wants to go there bc of the service. Competely rude, would not recommend going there.

I spent 750 dollars over the course of a weekend on a issue that was claimed to be fixed. However when I got in the car the same light came on, and my car was smoking ect. Labor is over priced to still have the same initial issues as before.

Quick service and does good brake work. Labor charges for four rotors and pads and one Caliper for same day service was fairly acceptable. Unfortunately they charged approx double for the price of the exact parts which are delivered for free by local southern Illinois parts stores (I believe they get parts from (Autozone - rotors and pads; Caliper and hose - NAPA). Do yourself a favour if you don t want to feel ripped off, ask for exact part names and numbers and use your cell phone to quickly look up part costs at Autozone, NAPA, Amazon etc........then negotiate a fairer price first for the parts. Or at least get them to explain why the big up (Almost DOUBLE!) charge on parts so you don t feel ripped off. If you have time, See if you provide the parts needed can they do the work for the same labor charge? All you have to do is drive a short distance down the street either way to get the parts.......if not in stock they can get in for you in hours or a day usually.Get a quote with the exact part names and numbers and do 5 minutes of homework. If you are not in a hurry, go elsewhere. There are at least two fair shops in Carbondale area I know of but usually take a few days to over a week (they are very busy). Unfortunately I was in a hurry so paid about approx $300 too much than what is fair. -//FACTSPads $34.99 front and 41.99 rear - at Autozone; $82.99 and $82.99 at Midas2 of each rotors $49.99 front and $49.99 rear- At Autozone - $91.99 and $89.99 at MidasOne Caliper and hose $74.79 and $24.99 at Napa - $123.99 and $54.99 at MidasSo if I purchased the parts approx $376 with free delivery but Midas charged $709. That s almost double if Midas calls in your parts and they get free delivery also and probably a wholesale discount! These are the exact same part numbers EXCEPT for the Caliper hose which I could not find a price on - priced recommended part at Napa for info above
