Took our car in to have the clutch replaced were under the impression that that was going to solve the current issues with our car. Upon getting our car back, the same issues as before started happening again. We took it back and he told us it was actually a different part that needed replaced, the TCM. The TCM, unfortunately, is on a huge backorder so there wasn't anything he could really do. He called in his programmer to try and reprogram our current TCM, but no luck. We spent $2900 on our car and it didn't get fixed.I went in again and asked for a partial reimbursement, which I felt was reasonable seeing how we dropped nearly 3k and our car didn't get fixed, and I was met with the worst customer service experience I have ever had.He got angry and raised his voice at me, told me I should have never bought my car in the first place because Focus's are known for issues (even though it was a wedding gift). He started guilt tripping me, saying "Oh, it's all my fault," when yes, indeed it was. He was going on and on about how he had told us from the very beginning that Ford doesn't make great parts, but if he knew that, why didn't he check that the TCM wasn't the issue before replacing the entire clutch? Incredibly inappropriate behavior coming from an adult. I would've thought I was communicating with a teenager. My experience had been good with him until today. His behavior was completely baffling and I'm shocked he even gave me the money I asked for. Do not come here if you want to save money. I can't believe we wasted $2900 for nothing.

My car broke down very close to this shop. Reed got my car into the shop very quickly. My alternator had gone out and he told me that there were 4 options to fix it. I don't know much about cars so he was willing to call my dad so that he could make the most informed decision. My car was fixed the next day and has been working great since then. Great customer service and a quick repair. I will definitely be recommending R&S auto repair to others!

I was referred to R & S Automotive by a couple of car guys I trust. We actually had to tow the car in as it wouldn't run. It's the holidays people are busy and I figured it would be after the first of the year before they could squeeze my car in. Let me tell you Reed was AMAZING!. He had the car diagnosed with a bad timing belt and warned me we might have bad head as well. He called me a few days later to explain the car needed to have the head fixed. Cam had a flat spot and several other issues. From start to finish Reed and the whole team at R & S was honest and amazing to deal with. I explained to him this was my son's car that he used to get to school and work Reed even offered to loan us a vehicle which we declined But, the thought he puts out to his customers is refreshing. Reed thank you for fixing our little Jetta you have a new customer for life.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair, Oil change

I can't speak for their mechanic service and expertise, but their customer service is horrible. When I walked in to ask a few basic questions I was greeted with hostility and contempt. Clearly the older gentleman who was in the shop felt that I was wasting his time. I was recommended R&S and was hoping to have them help with my vehicle. After being spoken to like that, I will not be returning.

As you may find out, I don't do a lot of reviews. However, I have to share one regarding R&S Automotive team, particularly the owner Reed.I am impress with the care and concern Reed has for our vehicle that has a hard part to find. With the long lead time, a temporary fix was offered, Reed went above and beyond to provide so the vehicle can be used. I appreciate Reed's honesty and his expertise as he helped us get back on the road.Service: General repairs & maintenance

R & S Automotive saved us!! We needed a new battery ASAP. They installed it on the spot and sent us on our way. Even found a good discounted battery for us!! We couldn't be more pleased with the timely service R&S provided for us!!

Their website says "At R & S Automotive, we pride ourselves in repairing and maintaining your vehicle right the first time, every time. We work on every car as if it were our own!" My experience says otherwise.I brought my wife's Mazda in because there was a cylinder misfiring. He called me after I brought it in and quoted a $550 bill, which is fine, as long as it gets fixed right.Well, it didn't. Something blew and the car was dumping oil everywhere, and the guys at autozone told me the car could have burnt to the ground. Not to mention, it was giving the same error code as before (misfire on cylinder 2). So I bring it back in and they "fix it" right this time. Car runs fine, but the engine light comes back on, and it's giving the /same/ error code, with a prompt that the injector needs to be changed. The mechanic anticipated and told me that might happen, because the injector does need to be changed, but they wouldn't have the part until next week (now). So I take the car in, anticipating another call with a quote or some sort of communication over the price. I do get a call, but about some covers that he'd like to order and replace."That will be about $250, on top of the $650 we discussed before""Uh, I don't remember anyone saying anything about $650. Are you referring to the $550 I initially paid to have the problem fixed?""No, $650 for the injector and labor"Not to mention he already had the car taken apart by the time he made this call. So I had to make another humiliating call to him a few minutes later and tell him that my newlywed wife and I cannot currently afford $900 in car repairs, and that we would have to wait. "Well then everything I've done has been for nothing!" He also said he had already ordered the covers, and I offered on the phone to pay for them, but he just said he'd put the car back together. So, this morning, I go in to pick up the car, and as I'm walking out with the keys, this is the conversation we had:"I need to understand why you think I work for free.""Oh, I... didn't think that, sir. But no price was communicated to me.""I keep going over our interactions a thousand times in my head, and I'm failing to see how you misunderstood and thought I work for free.""Sir, I didn't-"(As he's storming away) "You know, at least I can go to my bishop and tell him I'm honest in my dealings." (Points at me) "I'm not sure you can."At this point, I'm just in absolute shock. I'm already humiliated at having to tell a mechanic we can't afford what he wants to do, and now he's bringing faith into it? Had he done what he did before and called or communicated a price, I would have turned down further service, without question.I left with a "whatever, man" and I never intend on stepping foot there, again.A tip for the owner, and the guy who this was all happening with: if you work on people's' cars for a living, it pays a little more to be personable and not condescending.Stay away from this place. Autozone recommended them to me, saying "He's a grumpy old man, but he does good work" and at this point, the "grumpy" part is kind of outweighing the "good work" part.Service: Engine repair

Reed the manager was very rude and acted as if he didn t even want to help me. I asked auto zone what the best place was to get my truck worked on and they recommended this place.. Poor customer service I didn t even want them to look at my vehicle after a 2 minute conversation with this man. He gave me a high priced quote and I took my money elsewhere. If you want your vehicle fixed by an angry man that might yell at you for no reason at a unreasonable high price then come to this place. I never write reviews but because this man left me so frustrated I thought I d save others some time.. be happy and go somewhere else

We left a vehicle with these guys and they said it would be finished that day. It wasn t, when I called to see if it was done the guy was so rude and ill tempered I felt almost verbally assaulted. The job didn t get finished until 2 days later and if I called to check up on the job he would swear and verbally attack me and then hang up. So I shouldn t have been surprised when I picked it up and some things were fixed, but not everything. I called back to get an explanation, and what happened you ask?... He yelled at me and hung up! Don t use this shop, they are rude, they do not finish their work, and they charge an arm and a leg for an incomplete shotty job!No I am not a young college student without patience and I do have a moderate understanding of how to fix things on a car. No I did not pray and was not guided there by the Holy Ghost. I do know though when a shop does a sub par job and cuts corners... I m sure he has the ability to be nice, and do a great job (granted in the Holy Ghost review he luckily never actually worked on the car), he just doesn t seem to do a quality job consistently or treat people with respect regularly. So I think I ll stick with a review based on how I was treated and the job that was performed, and you can do the same! But just like I don t tell you that you are lying without understanding your experience, don t tell me that I am!

I have an old Honda Odyssey 2000 mini van, at that point in its life when you don't know whether or not to fix it or junk it. I've come away from several repair "experiences" over the last couple years where I believe the mechanics were helping themselves with the solution, rather than what was the best low-cost option to keep the van running.I'm very happy with my experience with R&S Automotive. You're not going to get a slick sales job, and you need to ask all the relevant questions you can, but you'll be treated honestly and fairly. And they'll be realistic about how long it will take. I had a complicated issue that took two trips and many days to work through at the very beginning of 2016, and now nearly three months later in still happy with my experience. Please give R&S a try!

I have not met a more kinder automotive mechanic then Reed He has offered me rides to the store or home with the kids when I was out of a vehicle waiting for it to be worked on. When I needed to get a second opinion and another shop diagnosed it as something else he was humble enough to admit it could be that. It ended up still being exactly what he diagnosed. He is honest a hard worker and kind.

Recently my Fiancee and I purchased a car that we knew needed some work. It needed a timing belt and I know from growing up with a father who is a mechanic its best to replace the water pump while in there changing the belt. We also needed new brake pads, So we went ahead and shopped all around Rexburg for the "best deal" And were giving prices ranging from $1000 to $1200. By chance we called R&S mechanic and were given a VERY fair price. While he was working on the car he took time to tighten up things that needed it and completely took great care of our car. The owner is a wonderfully nice man and even invited us inside so he could show us things he noticed on the car. This place is fair and I would strongly recommend it to everyone.

I have been in to R&S Automotive twice, and am very unimpressed with their business practices & management. They don't really want to talk with the customer or answer any concerns, they just want to work on your car. This is understandable for a technician, but seriously no one in this company seems to care about customer relations.First, let me say I am a pretty good mechanic myself. I have maintained my own vehicles and done about 90% of the repairs for the last 7 years, which is saying something because these vehicles are over 20 years old. The first time I went in, I was in a pinch because of school and didn't have time to do a brake job. They quoted me $220 for the front brakes on my truck, which was reasonable enough. If he had stuck to that price and installed quality parts, he'd get a 5-star review. Now, here's the catch: on my truck, it is impossible to remove the disc brakes without removing the hubs. They are attached together from behind. Standard practice says that every time you remove the hubs you should re-pack the wheel bearings, because the wheel bearings are inside the hub. Failure to do this will cause premature bearing wear. In other words, it's an integral part of the brake job. He knew this, and I knew this, but what he failed to point out was that it was not included in the price.About two hours after I dropped off the truck, he called and asked if I wanted him to repack the bearings. I said, "of course, that's part of the job, isn't it?" and he started yelling at me over the phone. He lied to me and said "you don't have to remove the hub to get to the disc brakes, so it's optional. It's an extra $110 if you'd like it, so what will it be?"He honestly thought it was okay to put everything back together without greasing the bearings, no reputable mechanic would do this. He also lied to me twice - once in the initial price quote and once over the phone. He also thought it was normal to charge $110 for a fistful of grease. So $330 later I picked up my truck, only to find out he had used economy brake parts on a 6,000 pound truck without even asking my preference. That was 18 months ago, and the brakes have never been quiet since then. The one final straw that got me to write this review came just a week or two ago. I was doing the ball joints on my truck, and wanted to find a shop that would press the old joints out and the new joints into the steering knuckle. On my truck, it is impossible to do the ball joints without removing the knuckle, because the front axle goes between the ball joints.I was feeling nice, and I though maybe I had just had bad luck the first time I went in, so I stopped by this shop again. The guy I asked got very flustered and told me that I was "making the job harder" by removing the steering knuckle, and that his ball joint press was designed to only work "with the knuckle still on the vehicle". He was clearly lying, because my repair manual and several of my mechanic friends all confirmed that it cannot be done that way on an old Ford truck. He said he would have to charge $30 per side, but I found a different shop that did both sides for $25 total. In summary, I feel strongly that you should take your business elsewhere. If you don't care what you pay, and just want the job done, this is the shop for you. However, if you crave a trustworthy mechanic who knows his stuff and will explain everything up-front, PLEASE do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. If you do stop in, be very alert and know that R&S will try to just take the car and avoid your questions. Also be aware that a written estimate means nothing to them.I believe there are plenty of good mechanics out there, in fact I know quite a few of them. R&S will never be on my list after these two infractions.

Reed The Grumpy Old Man needs to learn how to treat his customers better. He literally lashed out at me for something that was clearly their fault, and all I did was ask politely for them to fix the problem they caused. Never coming back and would never recommend them to anyone else.Wanted to give em 0 stars but there s no option for that.

I've never written a Google review before...THAT'S how bad R&S Automotive was. He treated me SO poorly that I felt compelled to write this review and spare anyone else from going there, wasting there time, spending more than they should, and possibly being treated just like I was. He was incredibly disrespectful, and had a poor/lazy attitude. He charged me $250 for labor simply because he didn't want to help me for the fact I own a Subaru. He told me my airbag light was fixed (it wasn't. In fact the light was still on when I got got back in my car). It wouldn't surprise me if he is very dishonest with people about what he actually does. He hangs up the phone on me, (not just once, but every time). He would use harsh language (intended towards me). He would roll his eyes. Here's this...I went with my friend (from Sugar City, who was also having car trouble). He was incredibly rude to me, and then very nice to my (local) friend. So if you're not from around here, don't expect to be treated well at all. To be honest...I am astonished he even has that company and can keep it running.

We had a really great time with R&S! Coolant had been leaking into our engine causing it to jolt and shake whenever we started the car. We took our car in to Uwrench and after diagnosing the issue they quoted us a $1900 repair for a cracked gasket or a cracked cylinder, although they weren't sure which was damaged. This caused us a lot of panic because there was no way we could afford that price being the newly married and still in college students that we are. Plus we didn't entirely understand how we'd cracked something in the engine because this car never overheats and we take good care of it.We called around trying to find a better price and R&S gave us the best deal in Rexburg at a quote of $1300. A friend recommended them to us after R&S fixed up their transmission really well. Once we got our car into R&S they did much more thorough tests and found that the gasket and cylinders were fine. It was 2 hoses that were damaged. They fixed our car in a day. The cost of the labor and new hoses rounded out to be just $250. It was such a relief to find out we didn't have to pay an arm and a leg to fix our car. We are so glad we didn't go with Uwrench and chose R&S instead. If you are a reasonable person looking for a good deal you should definitely choose R&S. As someone in another review said earlier, they don't have the smoothest customer service but they know what they're doing and they have great prices. Not only that, but they have a nicer garage than most auto shops in Rexburg and they won't take advantage of you.Be respectful towards them and they will be respectful towards you. If you're an overly sensitive person more concerned about getting sweet talked or a rushed job rather than getting low prices with high quality work done in a timely manner then don't choose R&S. It's your loss.

I dropped my truck off at 6:30 in the morning (as instructed) to have it straight piped which should only take an hour tops. They said it would be done before 3:00 the same day and when I called at 3:45 to see if it was done the man was very rude and yelled at me because they hadn't found the piece of pipe they needed. I'm going to get my truck ASAP because I don't want them to do anything to it if they treat their vehicles like they do their customers. *I had a good experience with Jeremy who works there. Never had problems with him. It's the old man who sits behind the desk that was rude*

While passing through Rexburg on vacation, my car began to make a disturbing noise after driving across a gravel road. We found R&S Automotive after a panicked Google search. The owner was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He and his mechanic fixed my car and we were back on the road in about an hour. This is an excellent business and I am grateful for their professional assistance. I highly recommend R&S.

Out of town on vacation, and our check engine light came on. I called at 9am, and they told me to bring it in. They let me borrow a car while they worked on my pickup, and we re able to get everything taken care of while I played a round of golf. Great customer service, and they fixed it quickly! Thanks so much for your help!

They are up front and honest about how much time and money will be required. They give you a discount if you pay with cash and will give you a ride back into town if you drop off your car. The head mechanic will also explain what he did and answer any questions you have. Helps you know that you are not getting ripped off.

I called to set up an apt and asked for a general price and time frame because I'll have my 10 month old with me and he got so frustrated and worked up about it because he won't know til they're doing it and find the issue. Which I get, but he got so mad when I asked for a rough estimate. So I called somewhere else and asked the same thing and she was super nice and gave me an estimated time and price. I called back to cancel my appt and he said "ok" and hung up without even asking who was calling! I have zero desire to work with anyone who can't even have a 2 minute civil conversation.

I had a really terrible experience with this shop. My oil pan had cracked, and had a warranty, but the owners of the shop refused to try to find out if they could get the part covered. Instead, they gave me a really high quote. I wasn't satisfied with the quote, so I looked around and found a much better one at The Pro Shop in Rexburg. When I called to inform him that someone else had won my business, he asked what the other offer was, and I informed him it was over $120 cheaper. He ripped them for using low quality parts (which wasn't true) offered to drop his price by $40, and then screamed at me (literally screamed) when I refused his low-ball offer. Maybe they have things to offer, but courtesy and value are not at the top of their list.

We were visiting Rexburg over the week of the 4th of July. On the Friday after the 4th our vehicle was having trouble starting. I called to get it towed over to R & S Automotive since we knew Reed from a previous ward. He went above and beyond to get several vehicles fixed so that we could head out Saturday like planned to get back home, working past 10 pm on Friday, even though he still had lots of work to do with that busy week. Thank you for your hard work!

Most dishonest guy in Rexburg. Used foul language to not only me but, also to a BYU-I college girl. It was a terrible experience. He refused to work with me got upset, blew his top, and just walked out. I have traveled the world and have never been treated so poorly before from a business or individual for that matter. The experience all in all was very disheartening and sad to see this kind of behavior from a man who was the owner and 50+ years old. I would go anywhere but, here to get my car fixed.

The owner is a terrible and very unprofessional person. He gets very angry at nothing and has temper tantrums like he s in his terrible twos. I m not kidding, call him or go in and ask something simple. When I was there, I was handing him something and he got so mad that I didn t put it on his desk instead he threw it across the shop and yelled at me. Everyone in the shop stopped and it was dead silent. It was really odd actually. I thought I was on a hidden camera show for a second.

Heard him swearing as he hung up the phone. If you can t answer basic questions without losing your cool, please just hand the phone to someone who can.
