Top notch shop run by top notch people!I had a head gasket repair done to my 1998 RAM 2500 5.9 Cummins at a highly recommended shop in Coeur d'Alene (4.9 stars). They did a good job and the head gasket issue was resolved, but there were some lingering issues that I suspected were from "cutting corners" during the repair. I took the truck back in and they confirmed everything was fine, but I wasn't so sure.After issues continued to persist, I took the truck into Compass and they quickly discovered that certain parts which should have been replaced during the head gasket repair were re-used, and that when the head studs were installed the valve cover was not "clearanced" for the studs. As a result the valve cover had been slowly leaking.Beyond that, Compass also found additional minor issues that should have at least been brought to my attention but were not. They explained everything to me in detail and what they would recommend prioritizing for repairs. Just fantastic customer service.They also have a great system where they text you the estimate and invoices, which allows you to review the issues and easily choose which repairs you would like to authorize or decline. Very quick and easy. 10/10 will be back.

I was travelling from Albert to the states when I accidentally put gas in my diesel truck in Sagle, Idaho on a Friday afternoon., of all things! When i realized what I had done I started calling around to see who could help me out - drain the tank and clean out the gas, etc. The people I talked to told me anywhere from maybe next week to sometime next month (even with the predicament I was in)until I talked to Joe at Compass Mechanical in Ponderay. He said if I could get the vehicle to his shop he would help me out and even called a towing company to help me. The towing company was slow to get it to Compass but he waited and helped me out anyway - I left there in my truck that afternoon at closing time. Superior service, caring people! Thank you Joe & team/ we are grateful for how you go out of your way for a traveller in a bind. I would highly recommend the Compass team.

I was visiting the Sandpoint area for work this past November and on the way out of town my Ram 2500's engine locked up suddenly (failed lifter and bent valve, unfortunately not uncommon Hemi design issue). After-hours, 700 miles from my new home in north UT. Despite the wildly inconvenient & stressful situation, it turns out that I was lucky to at least be in a place I used to live and able to work with a mechanic I trusted from past repairs he'd done for me on a different vehicle. It was a relief to see that Joe had moved his business down to Ponderay and that he was willing to shift things around to help get me back on the road. He and Staci went above and beyond to get the repairs diagnosed quickly and keep me in the loop as they wrestled for multiple days with my warranty/service contract holder to get the appropriate repairs covered. They kept me updated on details of the needed repairs and regularly asked for my input when the service contractors tried to push for less expensive (and incomplete/band-aid) fixes. Joe's mechanical expertise and persistence with the warranty company reps finally got a replacement engine covered, and once that process was done, the engine went in quickly and I was able to get back down the road to normal life. That was 17k long miles ago with zero engine issues since. The McBrayer's and team are professional, honest folks who will get the right things done for you, even when it means some extra time and difficulty on their part. Can't recommend Compass highly enough.

Amazing service, fair prices and great people! Staci & Joe were the only shop in town to have compassion on us (sad farmers buried in snow with a broken tractor) and got us squeezed in asap. Cannot recommend them enough, definitely our go-to from now on.

As far as I'm concerned, Joe is one of the most knowledgeable and thorough mechanics I've ever had work on my sprinter (diesel). I drove my van to another shop to get an oil leak fixed, and it ended up getting towed to Compass a couple of weeks later. He was able to track down the issue in less than a day after the previous shop had tried to trouble shoot the issue they created for over a week. He was very detailed in his explanation of the issue, and was well read on the specific vehicle and the common problems that could arise during the repair and gave me a warning. Staci and Joe kept me up to date throughout the whole process.Service: Engine repair

I have had two vehicles get work done here and I am so impressed by the honesty, affordability, and professionalism of this shop. Susan is nothing but smiles and kindness! She really does a good job at treating customers like we mean something and getting back to you in a timely manner. Joe does such an amazing job at troubleshooting and especially listening to your personal diagnosis before you even get to the shop that it makes you feel like he is already putting in effort to help and keeping an open mind as to what you may think it could be also. Both times my vehicles were done by the time they estimated, and honestly if they were not it would not give me any reason for a negative review because this is BY FAR THE MOST HONEST AND PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC IN BONNER COUNTY.

Compass Mechanical Repair is by far the best shop in Bonner county to take your car. Over the years of working on my car Joe has always been honest, friendly and willing to help me get my car in and out as fast as possible. As a young women who is clueless when it comes to car repairs I'm always worried about being ran around by someone who just wants more of my money but was so happy when I found a shop that treats me with respect and keeps me completely up to date the whole time my car is being serviced. Susan is very approachable and nice, she keeps you informed of prices and other problems that can be fixed at a later date. These guys deserve five stars all the way around

This place rocks!!! My truck sat in another yard for 2 weeks before being told they couldnt fix it. Compass had the parts ordered and a quote before my truck even made it in the lot. Nice staff and very friendly. I will be coming back here as long as they are here!!!!

Joe came very highly recommended from a trusted friend and he did not disappoint! Joe diagnosed and repaired the problem with my F-250 quickly and got it back on the road running great. Susan was very kind and professional. Honest work honest prices great experiednce definitely coming back. Thanks Joe!

Joe was a great guy to do business with until he hired Susan. Spend a lot of money there and eventually Susan will meet you with eye rolling or rude comments. Very unprofessional! Constantly tries to blame missed deadlines and communication on everything and everyone else. I've spent thousands there and always paid my bills when due but this last time was enough. I even sent Joe a direct email about Susan's lack of manners. No reply! Joe earns 5 stars but his employee deducted three. Sorry Joe!

This use to be the best Shop in town. Since they hired the Lady Susan it went down hill (more like over a cliff). Missed Deadlines (est. 1/2 a day turn into 4 Days), when calling Joe would tell her what's going on and she would tell me something completely different (Yeah have to hit the mute Button). Unfortunately customer service has become unimportant to them. We won't be back and anybody that ask, will not get a recommendation for this place.

I never been but i live close by they do.alot of business. I see fire trucks ,spot bus and other commercial companies vehicles among private. There turn around seem good everything goes out running.
