National is my go-to company for my car rentals! Their process is simple and easy, especially if you're an Emerald Club member. I love the fact that I can arrive at the airport, pick the car of my choice, and leave. No hassle, no standing in line to get processed. The staff is efficient and always courteous. Great company!

This has to be one of the most inconsistent National Locations in terms of offerings (ever since the location change to Alamo). There has recently been a policy change at this location that limits upgrades for EE members due to fleet size limitations, but also the location doesn't have an emerald aisle. Which is fine, however, according to the regional manager other "options" are supposed to be provided to EEs. However, that is not always done nor do the staff seem to be informed of this. If the experience at this location would be consistent then I would probably not be writing this review, however, I periodically come to this location so Ive seen many staff and iterations of availability/options/policy. So I know that my experience is not one off or a bad day.My last several interactions have been very bizarre and inconsistent . One time I was taken to a separate area and given the choice of three full-size cars that were all less than 30k miles even though there were brand new vehicles in the full-size line with less than 1k miles. Other times I am directed just to the full-size car selection which I still seem to get a car that has 25k miles and is from 2021. The fleet is aging and cars need to be replaced. Another side effect of many of the vehicles, due to location I guess, is that the higher the mileage the higher chance that the car will smell...funky/mildewy.Sidenote midsize and fullsize vehicles are the same price due to status/contract so they are not really upgrades or the deal that some of the representatives think they are.My co-workers that are also EE have similar experiences and recently some get to choose from the premium aisle, but there doesn't seem to be any logic here.It all seems very random and there doesn't seem to be any consistency. Myself and my coworkers really just want consistency and recognition (we don't want to have to ask questions like:what about my status? We should be recognized). National at this location feels as if it is an afterthought and is at the bottom of the concern list, and members of status definitely do not seem valued. This is not the level of customer service that I expect from National.

Best rental car experience I ve ever had! When we got there we gave them our name and they let us choose from a car in the parking lot. Very efficient, new cars, nice people!

National took care of us while on vacation. We had a flat and I got the spare put on, brought it back to the site, and they had me another car in 5 minutes no questions asked. Thank you for making a problem on vacation seem like a breeze.

The National Car Rental manager at Lihue airport managed to find a van for me inspire of the fact that my reservation was flawed due to a change in my credit card # on file - (which was noted on my reservation response from National in very small letters.) He searched several different agencies for a substitute and in the end found one on the National lot. I was especially grateful for his prompt response since I had 5 family members waiting in the baggage claim area for me. I should also add that the counter, at the time, was very busy and he took care of my problem without delay.

I have had great experiences with National over the past 5 years + that I have been using them pretty much exclusively. I would give five starts if not for the most recent experience in Kauai. There was no mention of going to a different check in location so I waited in a long line for no reason to get my car. The car I got had bad windshield wipers and if you are familiar with Kauai, you are going to want wipers that work. The car also had a few food/beverage scraps from previous driver and the trunk was not working correctly. I understand we can't expect perfection and I still will be using National in the future.

Fantastic company to work with. Easy process for choosing car and then just as easy dropping off. Very friendly staff that wanted to ensure I was completely satisfied with the car. I will absolutely use this National Branch again when traveling to Kauai.

Great selection for Emerald Isle we got a 4x4 Nissan truck for the same price as a full-size car. Definitely way better than paying for an overpriced Jeep.

We just picked up our Emerald Club car. Very few choices and ours is filthy. National is the only rental company we use. We are surprised and disappointed with this location. You can do better!

In Lihue, HI --National Car Rental cars were clean and in good condition. When we had a minor issue they refunded one day of rental. Very good at applying earned free rental days to account. Personnel very courteous and helpful.

While renting the vehicle in May 2022, the keyhole cover came off when I first got the car, after shutting the door. I was able find the cover and hung on to it until the vehicle was returned. Upon returning the vehicle, I contemplated reaffixing the cover and not saying a word. For concern that the next person would be blamed, I informed the National representatives. They looked at me strangely and a male employee proceeded to pound the piece forcibly in place. I was later sent a bill for $300! Months later, I'm still trying to dispute this. What gets me is this: I could have kept quiet and not said a word. Attempting to be a good citizen, I informed National, and get screwed. This is the responsibility of National. The part was on the car when it was returned and I have my wife as a witness. These representatives are dishonest and looking to gain something by screwing customers over. Take photos of your rental!

Wow! I have rarely experienced such friendly and professional service from a car rental company. We got in super quick, even though we were way early due to a changed flight. Picking up and dropping off the car was great!

Great selections of cars in the emerald lot (Maui). Lots of availability. We were a little afraid after reading several reports of rental car shortages in Hawaii and sky high prices. National is not price gauging it s customers and has kept their fleet of cars well maintained and available for travelers around the country.The representative who guided us and checked our car upon return was extremely polite! At the end of your trip just before a long flight, he (I forgot his name unfortunately) is a great rep to have finalize your reservation. Thank you!

I rented a car for the day. The process was seamless and fluid. I arrived > met with one of the staff who confirmed my reservation > chose a car > drove off. returning the car process was just as easy. Staff was helpful. Have a membership set up online.

I rented with National at Lihue Airport, Kauai, Hawaii. Not only did National offer the best price, it offered the best selection. The choice of cars in Hawaii is limited. I appreciate that National was able to service my needs. When we picked up the car, it was the only sedan in the lot. My Emerald Aisle allowed me to have an extra driver at no cost. The car was in good condition and ran perfectly.

Never have I had such an easy and stress-free experience renting a car. Due to a delay in a flight, they quickly pivoted and allowed my friend to pick up the car instead (which NEVER happens in the rental industry). We also extended our rental a day and they tacked on an extra driver for free. Plus, the line at the other rental areas was out the door. The management team and employees were lovely! Strongly recommend!!!

Glad I discovered National after years with other companies. The ability to choose you car is the best feature. I can walk off the plane and once I get to the rental center, I am on my way in less than 5 minutes!

Reserved an SUV in Lihue, HI a month in advance of arrival. Arrived very late and seamlessly picked up vehicle in about 5 minutes. Worked out well and the return process took even less time (2 min). I prepaid the fuel because of an early am drop off - won t do that again (~$100).National is great and is my go to for car rentals - Lihue staff were great and I will continue to do all my business with them when possible.

I've rented from 3 different places on Kauai and National has been the best experience. I've used the Emerald service before at other locations, but I didn't the time I booked with National. Even though it was a "regular" reservation, it was almost just as quick. The rep at the desk didn't try to upsell me on any of the extras. Other places will try to guilt trip you into getting the coverage. Selecting a car was simple, but not many choices. However, everything they had was all current models. Nothing seemed more than a year old. Only one very minor negative. They are about a mile or two farther than the main airport car rental location. It wasn't a big deal though. The shuttle is timely and the drivers are always helpful and friendly. Definitely will rent from them again next time.

Sadly my experience was dampened by my process of returning the car. I travel for work and always love working with national for how easy they make the rental process. This is the only rental location I have been to that you could not return the car outside of normal business hours. Normally there is a drop box or return attendant for receiving cars for early AM flights. I had one of the first flights in the morning and got to the airport before the rental location was open. I parked in the arrival drive thru because I had to check my baggage and had no other way to unload. After checking in, I went to the return location and parked on the street for 45 minutes before National opened. The car in front of me in line had been abandoned at this point so they didn't miss their flight. I ran from the rental location to TSA skipping the shuttle as it would take to long. I got to my gate as they were boarding.

I rent at this location every year. They are consistently friendly, courteous, and very efficient. It's easy in and out. Their rates arevery competitive and the cars are low mileage and in great condition. This year my vehicle was damaged by another car while I was picking up luggage at the airport. The National manager quickly got me another vehicle eventhough there were no like vehicles on the lot. Great service.

Arrived at this location having reserved my vehicle with my Emerald Club membership and was treated like a VIP. I was greeted by name and escorted directly to my vehicle where the staff helped lead our luggage. Rental contract was handed to me when I drove to the exit and was offered clear and concise directions to my destination. Fast, efficient, helpful and friendly. Very pleased with the experience.
