Just got back from a month on Big Island, renting a lovely white Honda Fit from Hilo Auto. It was a perfect car for me, and the arrangements went very smoothly. Also incredibly good price for a month-long rental. Rick's nephew Mark was a delight to work with on both the delivery and return. Mahalo and hope I can get the same car next year!

Hilo Auto Sales and Rentals was the best decision for renting a car on the island. I rented one of Rick s cars, it was fuel efficient, clean, and in great condition. Rick was super communicative and very helpful before, during, and after our vacation on Hilo. He picked us up and dropped us off at the Hilo airport to make our traveling smoother. He also gave us a list of fun beaches and parks to go to on the island. Very cost-efficient and very reliable. Would recommend to a family member or friend.

6 STARS!!While staying in Hilo Bay fresh off the boat Rick rented me a great car for a week for a great price and I ended up buying the car from him 8 days later (!). HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 10/10He gets all my business moving forward.

I can't say enough about Rick and his team. They were all pleasant, courteous and understanding. Always quick to answer text messages or emails. Had a problem with one car, rock got stuck in the brakes. Within a couple hours we had a new vehicle and were on our way. Super people, would highly recommend Hilo Auto Rentals to anyone.

Great place to rent a car! They communicated very well with us and explained exactly how it worked. Someone met us at the airport (they were waiting on us, not us on them, which was nice after a long travel), took us in our rental car to the business where we signed the paperwork. Then we were off! Drop off was just as easy. Car worked well and was clean. Plus it was considerably less than a rental car company. Would definitely use them again on the big island!

Rented just for the day. Terrific location for cruise ship passengers, shop located right next to port. Very reasonable, excellent rental vehicle. Rick and Mark are super easy to work with, and very helpful and flexible. Wonderful! Thanks for getting us started on a great day in Hilo!

Excellent experience! We made a last-minute reservation and Rick was exceptional about finding us a car to rent. There was a sense of professionalism but also a sense of small family business we greatly appreciated. We were taking a cruise and the pickup point was only minutes from the end of the pier which made our pick up and drop off very smooth. Rick was helpful to point us to ways of making our visit more pleasant with helpful local tips and advice for our activities while on the Big Island. We also appreciated the other staff member we met - Mike s friendly service when we dropped off the car was also superb. I can t say enough good things about their business.

Easy and stress-free car rental experience. Rick and his team were friendly, had great communication, and provided overall fantastic service.We rented a car from the Hilo location. Mark, who was extremely friendly and professional, picked us up from the airport and took us straight to their office where we received the car quickly (5 minute drive).Car was a Honda Accord and was perfect for getting around the island.Would absolutely recommend going with this place for your adventure.

Rick and his team were great. After our flight was delayed multiple hours, Rick was incredibly flexible and still picked us up as soon as we landed and got us a perfect Big Island car. Super nice team, very straightforward, and the most cost effective option we found. We won't even consider another option in the future. Hilo Auto sales and Rentals is the place to get a rental car!

I used this car rental on a recent trip to Hawaii. I booked a few months ahead of time and had email communications with Rick. Once we arrived in Hawaii, we were able to walk to the location from the cruise terminal. The car was ready for us when we arrived. We drove to the volcanoes national Park and back. It was a smooth transaction and would highly recommend.

We rented a car for two weeks from Hilo Auto Sales and Rentals and were very pleased with the car itself as well as the customer service throughout the rental period.We landed at the Kona Airport and once we called them and then got our bags, there was someone there to pick us up. Bringing the car back was also easy. The Toyota Corolla we received may not have been brand new, but it was very nice, clean and ran/handled well.The price to rent was reasonable and the best we found in researching car rental prices on the Big Island. We prefer to buy local whenever we can and glad we chose Hilo Auto Sales and Rentals. We wouldn t hesitate to use the company again.

If you're looking to support a local business on the big island, then I highly recommend Rick and Hilo Rental Cars. While the car we were provided wasn't brand spanking new, it had all the amenities we needed (AC, power windows, etc) and drove great. It also made it easier to fit in better with the locals and not stick out like a sore thumb. They went above and beyond by picking us up at the airport in Hilo and dropping us off at the airport in Kona. They kept track of our arrival time to ensure they were there to scoop us up right after we claimed our bags and kept in touch through text/email when it was time to drop us off. Thank you to both Mark (who gave us a few recommendations when picking us up) and Tina for that wonderful added service. We had zero issues when driving across the island.Skip the headaches with airport rentals and go with this wonderful local business with friendly faces!

I did a long-term rental with Rick for 6 months while here on the island for work. He and his staff were always amazing with interaction that I ve had. If I had any issues, Rick took care of it right away. Since I m on the Kona side, I dealt with Tina mostly. And she was amazing as well. I strongly recommend renting from Rick, especially if you are doing a long-term rental. I had peace of mind knowing that if I ran into any issues they would be there to assist. I had other coworkers who rented from other people who were cheaper, but when their car broke down, they was not another vehicle to replace it with. If I could give more stars in my rating, I would!

Rick and his staff were very quick to help with any issues and worked very hard to make sure that we were happy and safe with our car. I love being able to support local Hawaiin businesses and have already passed on his contact information to friends who plan to visit the big island. I will gladly do business with them again in the future.

We rented a car during a cruise stop. Had an excellent experience. We would both recommend and would use again. Walkable from the cruise port, make appointments/reservations online. Bring your auto insurance info as this is the coverage you'll need for your rental

Rick and Tina have been awesome to work with and they have taken care of us like family. The airport pick up / drop off is excellent and the minivan for our group has been perfect. I will choose this rental agency next time I'm on BIG ISLAND

Rick and his wife Lee were wonderful! Great prices, quick to respond and they pick you up and drop you off at the airport for NO additional charge. I am beyond impressed and would highly recommend them. I will definitely be a returning customer!

The price we paid for an 11 day rental was half of the lowest we could find elsewhere (including Costco Travel). The car was a hybrid SUV and came with a navigation system, much nicer than we expected. Dealing with Hilo Auto Sales and Rentals was a pleasure. We plan to use them next time.

Wow! This team is top notch! We were stranded with a stalled car at Volcanoes NP on a rainy evening and Rick s crew showed up to deliver us a car within hours, while ours was towed away .that s service! We appreciated the seamless payment process and car return in Kailua was a breeze! We would highly recommend these folks - Mahalo nui!

My wife and I rented a car from here for our one day in port during our cruise. With limited time, the biggest benefit is that from the time you step off the ship until the time you're behind the wheel is less than 15 minutes (few minutes walk and small bit of paperwork). Rick & Co. are very helpful, responsive, and friendly. The cars are a bit older, but this is transparent from the website. We received an early 2000s Ford Fiesta and it ran fine with no issues. You're asked to pay a refundable deposit when booking, which was repaid in less than 24 hours after dropping off the car. Would definitely book here again.

An awesome, honest small business. The owner Rick is an awesome guy. Enterprise, Hertz and Avis can only dream of providing customer service as excellent as this place. The cars are a little older but they are in immaculate condition.

We loved our experience with Hilo Rental Cars. Rick was fantastic, and worked with us when our flight was delayed. Picked us up and made the whole process super easy! We got an older Camry, and it was perfect for getting us around the island for our week on island. I highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again when we go back for another visit with out extended 'ohana. mahalo nui loa, Rick and company!

My husband and I had a day in Hilo while on an Hawaiian cruise in February. Our experience with Rick, his wife, and the service that they provide was excellent. The SUV that we were given was clean and comfortable. It was pouring rain the day that we were there and Rick and his wife went out of their way to get us umbrellas for our day trip. We would definitely use this business again to rent a car should we be lucky enough to return to Hilo at some point.

Rick makes you feel welcomed and taken care of. The Toyota Camry didn't guzzle gas and we had a great experience from initial emails to turning car back in.Highly recommend!

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I was in Hilo for about a week. I looked at rates for renting a car from the usual rental agencies and they were ridiculously high. I almost decided to skip a visit to the big Island because of this. But then I discovered Hilo Auto Rentals and I am so happy I did. The big island is gorgeous with so much to see and do and this was all possible due to a very affordable rental car from Hilo Car Rental. Rick and his nephew Mark are super friendly, flexible (I kept changing my schedule on them and they were very patient), and just all around good people. If you need a brand new luxury vehicle to cruise around in, you won't find that here. But if you want affordable rates, great customer service, a solid car that drives very well, you absolutely need to rent from these guys. Don't waste your money - support this small business. I'd rate them 11/10.

I'd use them again and refer others. I used this local service out of Hilo but they also do Kona. Car was in good shape, Rick was very quick to respond, airport pickup & drop off was easy, and refund was fast too.
