Had a great first experience using Mathis Auto based on recommendations of my neighbors. My van broke down with what I suspected was the alternator. I had it towed in after I was given a very reasonable estimate that was 30% lower than what others told me. They found that my valve cover gasket was leaking and dripping oil on to the alternator and possibly caused it to fail. They fixed the gasket and the alternator in the exact amount of time promised. I will be returning for any additional auto work going forward.

We had been to Mathis auto a few times for easy stuff like an alignment and brakes. Today I have discovered we will never be going back. My car has been burning through ignition coils and spark plugs. It had gone through 3 sets in three months. The last set only lasted a few weeks. When I called telling them my car was being towed in, the gentleman on the phone acted like he was annoyed that I was doing that. This is after I had called two days previous and they told me to bring it that day. After they looked at it, they told me I needed new spark plugs and coils. Both my husband and I asked why it would be burning through them so quickly. There had to be something else wrong. They blamed it on my husband and said it was bad parts. Soooo apparently three times bad?! Then they said we put in the wrong spark plugs even though those are the ones specifically listed for toyota. I should also add that my husband and I rebuilt a Monaco and still work on his Fury. We kind of know what we are doing. I m not sure if Mathis is just unable to diagnose problems because they don t have the ability or if they are just completely unwilling. Perhaps they refuse to buy the electronics they need to diagnose newish cars and read the computer. All I know is that we were basically blown off. It seems like they don t have the ability to actually diagnose problems. They seem to just replace parts in hopes of it being the actual issue. Will not ever be returning here. Additionally, if you read other reviews on here. Many people had similar issues.

Very good staff and always ready to help. They do good service. I give both my cars for service to Mathis. So far I have had no problems with their work.

Went to get an emissions test and it was pretty fast but a bit too expensive. Also, when I got there the guy just told me to get out of the car, no greeting or anything.

Recently did brake work here and it was done well at a fair price.Brought the same vehicle back for a diagnostic on an engine warning light. They did some digging and treated us very fairly.Honest people.

They are OK on the price, however they cause other issues and refuse to own up to it. I had a brake job done with them for all 4 wheels and their guy busted my speed sensor. Taking the car back, they said they couldn't diagnose. Anyone with a little auto knowledge could tell when the power steering light and traction control lights come on at the same time it's the speed sensor. But they decided to play ignorant.Service: Brake service & repair

Dexter runs a tight ship! They do $20 emissions as well. All of the mechanics are friendly & provide quality service for my vehicle. I drive a 2014 Jeep & I don t have patience nor the money to be charged at the Jeep Dealership. When you are covered under warranty & have free oil changes because you have a brand new vehicle sure. Jeep charges $180 just to diagnose a problem when your Malfunction Indicator Light is on.Mathis has honest pricing for the labor hours. So glad I was referred to come here. I will be back next time I need an oil change that s for sure

I've been doing business with Mathis auto for 17 years, owning between 2 and 4 cars (kids). I trust Mathis completely. They fix what needs to be fixed and they never upsell useless services. They communicate well and are very accommodating. We do simple things like oil changes, brakes and emissions. And we've done expensive things like a new engine (cracked block), A/C, alternators, cat-converters, and new power steering. I recommend them without reservation.Services: Electrical repair, Tires, Steering & suspension repair, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic, Transmission repair, Brakes, Air conditioning, Brake service & repair, Battery, Oil change

I have been coming to this establishment for years (15 years) because they are convenient. I usually on average get 4-5 cars tested here a year but they are not friendly at all. They never smile and greet you kindly and have never in 15 years even acknowledged me by my name as a loyal returning customer. I have often felt like they were racist but I kept coming because even though they have never been friendly they were convenient. This year one of my vehicles had to be driven 100 highway miles after a repair and they refused to do a complimentary retest because I came back a little beyond 30 days. They told me they would retest at no charge when it failed but they failed to tell me I had to come back before 30 days. Even a little discount on the retest would have gone a long way to show they appreciated the business I have given them over the years. They have lost a good customer but based on how they have treated me as a customer over the years, they don't care. I really feel if I had been of another ethnicity they would have treated me differently over the years because I've seen them interact way more friendly with other customers over the years. Very sad in this day and time some people resent the diversity happening in Forsyth county.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

I have been using Mathis Auto on/off for over 5 years. Overall, pleased with their work and pricing. If you are expecting a "warm fuzzy" customer service experience you probably will be disappointed. They have plenty of business and are a very "no- nonsense" kind of shop. Charm school vocabulary (Thank you, Please, Sorry) may not be part of their routine. Just an observation and not an accusation. I recently used them for service and somehow lost my credit card in/around their premises. My fault clearly. They had it at the front desk but I never got a courtesy call. It's only because I retraced my steps/transactions that I found my self at Mathis again and was reunited with my card. Again, I have no issue with their work and will continue to use them if/when needed.Services: Electrical, Oil change

Mathis Auto is reliable, trustable and no nonsense. They find the issue, fix it correctly and charge reasonable rates. I recommend them to everyone, no matter the make, country of origin or model of their car. They don't have "regulars" because they have such good skills... they don't rely on trickery to create business, their integrity keeps them loved over years even though you won't see them that often!

Great job on my Jeep. I expected the repair to take a few days so I planned on leaving it there while I went out of town. They replaced my radiator and hoses in 1 day and were still willing to let me leave my Jeep there while I was out of town. Great service. Great price. They are my new go-to mechanic.

Had a coolant leak and was told bad water pump. Had that replaced. Continued leaking and told that the timing cover gasket needed replacing.Paid for same labor twice to remove water pump and probably didn't need water pump in first place, but only gasket.There are better options out there.Edit: Yes the truck is 20 years old. The gasket didn't immediately fail after the water pump replacement. It was leaking at the time of the pump replacement and Mathis missed it. And i had to pay twice.It is strange how mechanics are infallible; always the customer or the vehicle, the shop is never, ever wrong. Yall have been warned.

I had a wonderful experience at Mathis. The mechanic had wonderful customer service skills. I went to get my emissions done. It was only $20, I have him$25 to tip him $5 and he called me back to him thinking I overpaid him. When I went to the restroom I had prepared myself for going into a mechanic's restroom and was pleasantly surprised to see that i could actually sit. I most definitely will be going back to Mathis Auto when my car needs servicing! Tatjana

I had ABS unit failed on my toyota camry 2008, I called dealer ship they said it will cost me north of 3K and 2 days of labor, I called dexter he said drop your car and pick it up in evening. I was thrilled , not only they completed at fraction of cost what dealership wanted but saved me 2 days as well. Dexter is straight to point ..will be using them regularly.Service: Brake service & repair

These guys are the best! They are reliable, dependable and trustworthy. They do not try and upsell or trick you into purchasing anything you do NOT need. They fix the problem as quickly and effeciently as possible. I doubted what the dealer told me....so I brought my vehicle to Dexter and my problem was fixed the same day..... for $800 cheaper! I will not go anywhere else! You shouldnt either :)

Dropped my car of I just wanted it looked at. I had a big road trip ahead of me. They had it for a while called and said it's in great shape, didn't try to scalp me or anything. Their prices are great by the way. My dad uses them for his brakes and such, he was the one who referred me to them, said their prices are good and it's true.Drop your car off early in the day, I tried on weds mid day but they wouldn't have been able to see it til the next day.I'm happy with these guys

Have used them going on 15 years. Always found them to be honest and reasonable. There have been times that they found larger repairs recommended by other shops were not needed. Only complaint, if you can call it one, is that sometimes they're too busy.

Best service out there, they do it all. I've had my car serviced here for the last 5 years and will continue to for the rest of my days. Emissions testing is also super quick and reasonable, cheaper than Jiffy Lube.

My trunk wouldn t open, and I took it to Mathis. This was my first time. Turns out there is a button to push it the glove compartment. It s my fault I didn t know about it and somehow it must have been pushed. But they charged me $50. $50 to push a button! Goodyear up the street will plug your tire for free.I get they spent a little time poking around, but the sad thing is I often have car service needs and had they not nickel and dimmed me for pushing a button, it would have built goodwill and I would have start coming here for all my needs. I hear they are a good place and I don t doubt that they are, just left a bad taste in my mouth as a first experience.

The best local service/repair place around. The owners, father & son are great people and most knowledgeable with much experience in automotive repair. Their prices are fair and the service excellent. I would recommend Mathis to anyone for any type of vehicle.

These guys are hands down the best and very reasonable in prices. I just got a brake job on a Jeep and they put on Mopar OEM Brakes and not some cheap brakes. Dexter is very knowledgeable and helpful. We were going to Kauffman Tire before going here and found out that Kauffman Tire marks their parts up 100%, not to mention they are getting $109 and hour to fix your vehicle. I will be returning to Mathis Auto from this point forward. Thanks guys!

Me and my dad went for an emission test at Mathis Auto Services Inc. and the first time one of their employees saw us, he shook his head as if we were doing something wrong. Then , he yelled , "Get out, you two!". The car passed the emission test, but of course he never told us that. There were no greetings when we entered, no "Thank You" after we paid, just plain disrespect and outright condescending behavior from the folks at this place.

We have been using Mathis Auto for years. We take all our cars there for all of our automotive needs. Wouldn't trust anyone else to service our cars. The most dependable, reliable, honest, and friendly service in Forsyth County!

Yo... Do not come here! Failed my emission test and told me to go to a mechanic shop(which i did), went back and told me they can t do another unless i keep driving which i can t with no tag. so now i ll have to deal with being pulled over. Dude was disrespectful to my wife to the point she was crying. There are better cheaper places.
