This hotel was a great choice for location, right in the middle of everything, we walked everywhere. The rooms are very cute but a little dated, I like that there is tile floors instead of icky carpet. Our room had a mini kitchen which was great so we didn't have to eat out the whole time. We had a river view room with a patio which was stunning, the only downside to that is the loud music at night from the local bars/ restaurants on the other side of the river, but that stops around 10pm. The beds could be better I believe they are pretty old due to it creaking springs anything you move, the walls of the room are VERY thin so if you have noisy neighbors you probably won't get sleep. The staff is absolutely delightful, so kind and accommodating, made our stay great and would come back based on that alone.Nearby activities: A ton of food and drink options, bars, shops, mini golf, mining, mountain coaster and miscellaneous things.Walkability: You're within Walking distance to everything, the Helendorf is right smack dab in the middle.Food & drinks: 100's of good and drink optionsNoteworthy details: Cutest little German town

This place was great. Clean rooms, great location. Walking distance from all the shops and restaurants. Can't really say enough good things about this hotel. We went in the off season and got a river front suite with a balcony for less than most conventional lower class rooms. Highly recommend this hotel.Rooms: Clean, and comfortable rooms.

Why have we waited so long to stay here? We booked a room with our kids to stay in Helen for the night at the Helendorf. I called the hotel directly to make the booking. The clerk was fast and friendly. We were pleasantly surprised by the room. The quality and cleanliness were top notch. We enjoyed the view of the river from the balcony. The location is perfect for walking around and exploring the area. Great shower, clean room, comfy bed, we couldn't ask for more. The check-in/out process was quick and courteous. We will be back for sure!

The location is great. It is in the middle of all that downtown Helen has to offer. I feel like the price is WAY too high for what you get. We paid quite a bit for a non-view room. The mattress was almost unbearable and there were only 3 small pillows per bed. We asked for more pillows and were told they didn t have extras. We ended up having to roll up towels to give some sort of head support to sleep. Needless to say, we didn t sleep. Our room was clean, but had an odor with the heat/air on. The breakfast was less than desirable. There were very few options when we went around 8:15 (served 7-9). We were able to get a bagel and a juice. There were frozen 2 pack sausage biscuits in the fridge we could heat up, but it wasn t worth it to us. The pool is in the middle of the parking lot and is supposed to be heated, but it was ice cold. It is a shame because that is why we picked that hotel since our kids wanted to swim. For the price, I recommend the newer hotel down the street.

I would recommend this place for your visit to Helen! My husband and I stayed here for Saint Patricks Day weekend, and we were treated very well.We experienced a minor inconvenience, every employee was notified, and they rectified our issue so very quickly. This was definitely worth the price, and top-quality customer experience.

The staff isn't concerned with your concerns because they are too confused. While the hotel location is spot on, the view from the balcony of the room was great, the room could use some updating, but it was clean, and comfortable, a little musty smelling, the beds were comfortable, but not enough pillows. Access to dining and shopping is literally a few steps away, but didn't do that due to the crowds, it was beyond belief. Lastly this hotel requires a 2 night minimum stay and will not be reasonable with it, costing us $500 for a one night stay, so while there nightly charges may be less than other hotels, it's actually higher due to the 2 night requirements. That is why they had vacancies on the busiest weekend of the year.

UPDATE: management reached out right away and did everything they could to make it right. We were excited to stay here and it s been great being able to walk everywhere BUT the room is filthy- the floors are greasy, there s hair in the corners, the walls are dirty and the ceiling is almost black. Also the beds are ancient it seems and there was a washcloth left in the shower we definitely wouldn t stay here again.Rooms: DirtyWalkability: Nice location

Great location right in downtown Helen! It was convenient to walk to all the shops and restaurants. The staff working in the front was extremely friendly. When my friend and I looked into booking a hotel online in advance a lot of them required a 2 night stay. (We only wanted one night). Due to this we decided to find a hotel once we got to town and hope there would be less restrictions in person. I never do this but it worked out perfectly! They were able to get us a room and we were even able to check in before 3pm since our room was ready. The room was a little outdated but it was clean and cozy. The beds were amazing! One of the most comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on! We didn't get a river view which was probably the downside of not booking in Advance. We debated getting ballcony, but it cost a good bit more since and for only one night we were going to be out exploring the town.

We traveled from Florida to the Helendorf during winter break. My family and I enjoyed the hotel, especially it's location. During this trip my son left his new toy that he got from Santa in the room we stayed in. The employees found the toy and shipped it back to him. We were ecstatic to see the toy again. We can not say enough good things about the Helendorf and especially about the employees that work there! :)

The Helendorf is in a great location to access restaurants and shops in Helen. The parking lot is large. The rooms are clean and functional. We enjoyed the band at one of the restaurants sitting on our own balcony overlooking the river. We had guests one day and the hotel was very kind to give us a parking pass. Lots in Helen charge $10 for parking. Breakfast is very limited - prepackaged muffins, instant grits, instant oatmeal, juice and coffee. The room had a k-pod coffee maker and we brought our own pods. A room attendant knocked on the third day (we were there 4) to see if we needed anything but did not come into the room. The prices are fair for the central location.

Well, I give them a four rating because I got to use my triple AAA membership. It was a quick exclusive spot to getaway for the holidays. Everything was in reach of what was needed. I did have some reserves about service which you will read in pros and cons below. No bad experiences with customer representatives. Only the stray cats that kept starting up with my husband and I. I think they got ownership in the property.Pros:Honor most traveling membership discountsHold rooms when paid in fullRoom was cleanReasonable pricesGreat serviceGreat viewing for downtown area, nature s beautiful mountains and creeksWifi accessFireplace access and has built in timer to shut off based on preference5 min. walking distance from downtown area. Close range of many attractions and sightseeingLess driving saves gas. We all need that vacay exercise. Especially, when you eating out a lot.Jacuzzi, fridge, microwave, oven/stove, carpet, and bed linen was clean.Private balconyCons:Pet friendly. I love animals but for a place such as this, animals will wear and tear down booking location.Mediocre outside and inside furnitureContinental breakfast is fruit cups, instant oatmeal , microwave burritos etc. Do I need to say more?Vending machine costs were so overly priced. So many stray cats No matter what always bring Lysol spray and wipes to any room you stay at and disinfect. Ex: still disinfect carpet, bed, furniture, hot tub, counters, my mom always said no one s gonna clean like you.

My wife and I stayed at the Helendorf this past weekend while visiting Helen. We had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room was very clean and we had a private balconey overlooking the Chatahooche river. We had great shops and restaurants within a one or two block walk. I highly recommend the Helendorf.Nearby activities: We were right in the heart of downtown Helen.Walkability: A short walk to shops and great restaurants.

$200 a night for dirty bed sheets, a baby roach in the bathroom, spotty wifi, and old furniture. Yay!! Good times.Seriously though, it s a great view of you pay extra for river view. Location is perfect!!However, the hotel is about 60 years old and looks like it.Breakfast was a joke. Choice is frozen biscuits, dry oatmeal, coffee, water, and canned OJ or apple juice. The room is too small for folks to sit so you stand to eat your pitiful breakfast.Wayyyyy overpriced for this. The bed sheets had not been changed. It was dirty and long hair in the bed. The front desk lady came down and saw how dirty it was. She changed the sheets and blankets for us but housekeeping should have done this. Totally unacceptable.Rooms: Old and dirty.

I have never been here. A friend is visiting and I told her to tell me all about it so I can have great recommendations when I visit. She is staying here and sent me there pet policy. I was in shock when I read pit bulls are forbidden I hope all pet lovers and especially pitbull owners and lover read this so they know not to support this facility.

This was our first time in Helen GA for our 31st anniversary and Helendorf was recommended by some friends and it did not disappoint. The staff went above and beyond on our reservations so we ended up from a no view room to river front. The cleaning staff came by to make sure we had fresh towels etc daily. The hotel is walking distance to EVERYTHING downtown and being right on the river is over all quiet and relaxing. The bed was sooo comfortable! The room was so charming and had a cute kitchenette.Only complaint I have is the screen doors to the patios slam shut if you don't hold them until fully closed that was a lil' annoying with our neighborsKids running in and out. But, that would not keep us from coming back. We really enjoyed our stay!Rooms: Room is very charming.Nearby activities: Mountain coaster is right across the street and walking distance to all the restaurants and shops.

Quaint little place to stay in town where you can walk to everything! Our room was right on the river. The bed was the most comfy bed we've experienced in a long time at a hotel. The bathrooms have been upgraded and were nice. Almost all of the staff was great, friendly and helpful! We had one that I think may have been having a bad day, but I just smiled and tried to be friendly and she pulled out of it :) Parking spots were very limited on the weekends! The lot was completely full! Seems the parking is probably an issue around the whole town at some of the busier times.

We were in town spontaneously without a reservation at the same time as a car show and most hotels were booked. But we stopped into the Helendorf and we re lucky enough to get a room. The staff was very friendly and worked to give me a discount rather than take advantage of my situation. We liked that there was private parking and the room came with a free breakfast although we slept in and didn t make it down there. Our room was perfectly comfortable and nice and had all the extra amenities you find these days. Although it was not modern, it was clean and the furniture fit quite nicely with the Rapunzel theme our building was named for. The shower was hot and the bed was very comfortable, in my opinion, but I like a soft bed. To me it felt like a warm dense cloud. There was nothing outstanding about the hotel except for the fun decor, but it was very nice and we would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful location in the heart of Alpine Helen. GA. The staff was spectacular, especially the shirt girl with the pixie cut. We liked the breakfast too. The room was spacious and we got plenty of towels. Their pool is enclosed and clean. The only downside was the soft, lumpy mattress. Would stay again so I highly recommend The Helendorf River InnWalkability: GREAT location to walk the entire city!!

Perfect location to park and walk to everything in Helen. Clean rooms. No issues with anything other than the clientele seems to be more like you would find at a cheap panama city beach hotel. Overlooks the river on one side and those rooms are much more pricey. Doors are loud when you shut so early morning, late at night you hear it all. This place does accept pets in certain rooms so that you can bring your dog. Overall a solid place but it is showing age and needs to be updated a bit in some areas. Grounds are well kept and staff was great. Parking was good as well. No cooked breakfast. Everything is pre packaged. But if you are looking for a central location to see it all and not have to drive, this is it.

VERY IMPRESSED!! I've been coming to Helen for 35 years & don't know why I've never stayed at the Helendorf. But from now on I'll never stay anywhere else!! It's so close to everything, you can walk. It's a 50 yr old hotel, but it's very updated and clean! The room smelled great, the bed & pillows were so comfortable. The bathroom was very clean & updated, even had 2 sinks in the bathroom. We loved the homey feel, with a screen door to the river front balcony, little kitchen area & plenty of storage! And all the employees are super nice and helpful. Plus they have the biggest parking lot of all the hotels in Helen. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
