Leaving the owners of this transmission specialist with 40+ years of experience a 5 star review (John and Maria), for the wonderful and honest phone consultation that they gave me regarding a 60k cvt fluid flush on my mass produced but well maintained 2021 Altima (Yes, I embrace my Big Altima Energy)Anyways, even with the drastic improvements since their original run in 2008, we all know that there still doesn't seem to be a straight answer on when or how to maintain these efficient, but finicky transmissions.However, Ms. Maria confidently assured me that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", especially considering that the vehicle is not used for towing, but to instead focus on scheduled engine oil replacements and to of course listen to the car as I go beyond 60k miles. The key point being that once you unseal these new CVTs and cause an issue, THEY CAN ONLY BE REPLACED, NOT REPAIRED OR REBUILT...Good luck getting this kind of advice at the dealership btw...Needless to say, I've taken her advice and can now use that $400 to do my brakes.Thanks Maria!

John and Maria are fantastic. In todays day, it s so hard to find that old school family trustworthy feeling business. John kept my vehicle 17 days because he is a perfectionist. He almost gave it back after 14 but called me and said I want to keep it a couple more days. I feel good About it but I just want to be 100% sure . I have already given their card to 4 people. If you have any issues with your transmission, look no further. I promise you won t be disappointed. Kudos John and Maria. Keep up the great work.

Having to get a new transmission is never a good experience but at Monterey Transmission they make something bad into something great. Friendly, caring, family atmosphere that makes you feel better about your car problems. I appreciated how the owner, John took time with me and explained everything. He also said he would take a look at the engine to make sure there weren't other problems before he did the work. My experience was 5 Stars.

Process was smooth and quick, John and his wife are the actual sweetest. Wouldn t go anywhere else for transmission needs. Rebuilding my transmission came with a three year warranty.

Extremely honest and professional! With the over exaggerated prices of new cars today, and the excessive use of electronics in new vehicles, having a reliable older car is a nice luxury. As vehicles age, knowing knowledgeable and honest mechanics is a must. I recently took my car to the folks over at Monterey Transmission after another shop diagnosed it as needing a transmission replacement. John and his team could have sold me a new transmission, but instead informed me that the vehicle's issue was elsewhere. His old school honesty potentially saved me thousands. I highly recommend these folks for any transmission issues or diagnostics.

I've brought over a dozen commercial fleet and personal vehicles to Jon over the last 8 years. I've tried other shops in the area and the knowledge, timely service, and honest diagnosis has been unmatched. They speak with love and care about the community's need to have reliable transportation. I cannot say enough good things about this place. If your not bringing your vehicles to Monterey Transmission to be serviced, I am sorry for your loss.

I brought my vehicle in for a clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing repair. Service was completed three days later. From that point on, I had clutch chatter when driving normally. Took the car back two times for the repair and it was not done properly. The repair shop has had my car for the third time for the last 3 1/2 weeks and has not completed the repair. Repair shop does not return phone calls when they see my office number or my cell number coming up. I did speak to John four days ago and he proceeded to yell and get very annoyed when I question him about my car. His excuse to me was he couldn t get the clutch cables. I just went on and called four auto suppliers that have these cables in stock. The service, courtesy, and reliability is a zero rating. I feel they are doing a disservice, have done something incorrectly to my car and are not willing to stand up for their mistakes. I would not recommend this transmission shop to anyone. There are many reputable transmission repair shops in the local area and this is not one of them. The shop did come recommended to me by an avid master mechanic and shop owner which he will not any longer refer clients to Monterey Transmission.They should be refunding my entire fee that was paid for services that were not properly rendered. I have been taken advantage of for thousands of dollars by Monterey Transmission s.Service: Transmission

When you're looking for HONESTY AND A TRUSTWORTHY SHOP; THIS IS IT!!!! It's so many people in this world just trying to make a dollar!! These people are AWESOME...everytime! John is always busy because of return clientele but, if your in need he will work you in. That's dedication to his customers. The work is always 10 out of 10 and Marie in the office and staff are always with a smile and a pleasant understanding to situation your having with your vehicle. Repaired my daughters transmission and it runs great. My truck developed some issues and I thought it was a failure with the transmission, Monterey Transmission performed a diagnostic and let me know there were no issues with the transmission, it was an engine camshaft phaser, you do not find honesty like this very much anymore! They were recommended by Saint Lucie Battery and Tire. Tony told me they were very reliable and he was correct. I was told up front what he would do and how much it would cost. I have never had such an aweful experience. First, they kept my vehicle for 6 months waiting for the part new or used. Secondly, when I threatened to pick-up my vehicle, they all of a sudden came up with the part. Finally, after replacing the new part which came from Mazda on the vehicle the car was still presenting the same problem that we brought the car there for in the first place. My husband took the car back to the shop two days later to be looked at again, before he could get the car home good the AT light came on again. At the point we were so frustrated and have decided to take our vehicle to AAMCO transmission.Service: Transmission

1st time coming here, very integral shop, nothing but polite, efficient, and ethical. Would highly recommend. They also offer free inspections prior to the job being done which is what I did and they directed me to and engine repair shop. Very integral people highly recommend!

Let me start off by saying I have used Monterey countless times, but this will be my LAST. Unfortunately, with all the other 5 stars I wish I could say I experienced the same quality work and professionalism. However, I dropped my truck off and only for it to sit there for 35 days untouched. I called several times to speak with John but was told EVERY TIME, he s unavailable because he s on a test drive. Messages and calls left unreturned. I was given the run around every time. Thank god I have a secondary vehicle or my life would have come to a screeching halt. To have my personal vehicle sit for over a month only to pick it up and forced to take it else where. I will never use this shop again and will make sure to let my peers know the same experience I had.

More than just a transmission shop. From basic tune up's to building street/race transmissions. American, European or other, they have the diagnostic equipment to work on just about anything.

John maluski ruined my 2013 Chrysler van a simple mechanic job and he rendered van inoperable. Any good mechanic would have known how to fix. Kept it for more than 6 months left my van inoperable. Steer clear he's not honest..Service: Auto engine diagnosticService: Auto engine diagnostic

I'll never take any of my cars anywhere else. John and his staff are amazing and I don't think there's anything that John doesn't know about cars. On some repairs that could've cost me in the thousands, John's integrity shone through and I'll recommend him to anyone ever looking for a good, knowledgeable, honest mechanic.

This place is outstanding. If you are not taking your car here for service you are missing the boat. John the owner is the best, knows his stuff, and goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy.
