Ben worked on my 68 Mustang. It looked good (if you like Hot Rod yellow - like me) but had sat for the best part of twenty years unused by previous owners. Tank of stale gas, carb issues, drums on rear, ceased disks on front etc. A list of things you get from a car sitting for 20 years and having older technology. I wanted Wilwood brakes, electric power steering, new mirrors with indicators, headlights, a long list of changes. Got an estimate and a date to bring it in... Shop was full when I first met with Ben and has stayed that way during my build. Therefore I expected a wait for completion because it was a long list of items. Ben got my car running and 90% done so we could (safely) take it to the Cars for Cause show in town. Returned afterwards for remaining 10% to be completed. There were parts already on the car that were not anticipated (Mk2 spindles for example) and bits of the power steering that got in the way of other things already on the car. Remember those new parts are advertised to work on a stock car, but if it is already modified... they may not fit quite as intended! Ben and Richard communicated these issues as they arose. Kept me in the loop and the options available to resolve them. Those changes involve additional costs, even if it is just labor. Please anticipate that cost changes will happen on a build that involves modifications to a car. Those issues are not Bens fault! I am pretty sure you need a psychic mechanic who can foresee the future, you should look elsewhere. Someone who can adapt to get the job done on your car, Ben's your man! OK, where Ben really shone was in the details of the build. Rather than hard wire the mirror lights, he came up with a slick conductor in the door frame, for example. Simply contact when the door is closed. No wires to break over time. Nice. Listen to Ben, he has good solid ideas about how to do things, just better than you were thinking. Best of all, every time he found an issue he brought it up so it could be resolved. I have confidence Ben had my best interests at heart to leave his shop with a significantly safer car than arrived with him at the start. IE that the existing fuel line at the gas tank, even though braided stainless and looked cool, was not a great solution to ensure that it never leaked. No one needs a gas line leaking. That is why you should carefully listen and consider what he is telling you.

Was putting sidepipes on my van, they said didn't have enough room for Catalitc converter, so they just put the pipi straight to the sidepipes. One pipe is 2 to 3 inches farther toward than the other, welding was extremely good, but the work they promised didn't get done, and didn't even call and let me know.

This shop is very professional. The recent bad reviews are not accurate in the slightest. My challenger had a blown head gasket I needed fixed. On top of that, I wanted to install a new camshaft, lifters, damper, pushrods, springs, intake, and long tube headers. I m pretty sure Ben was the one working on it. He told me roughly what it was going to cost and he would call me if they found anything extra that needed replaced in which I would have to give the the go ahead to fix. They called with updates on my car and let me know what was going on during the process. Everything went smooth. They are the only shop I will take my car to. I will be back!Service: Engine repair

Ben and his techs are great, shaggy in the office is a good guy too. Wise hands aren't cheap for work but cheap work is unwise. That being said they are very knowledgeable and have never sabotaged me for a second visit as some shady mechanics have even known to do. Quality work, worth every penny. You'll know before you pay, no surprises.

Great place to go. Ben knows his stuff. Fixed ball joints on both sides for me. Skilled work isn't free, but free work isn't skilled.

The age old saying is that people will always be quick to write a bad review, and seldom will they take the time to write a good one. Well I m here to say that Ben s Automotive has earned my trust and respect. I had a last minute change and they were able to reschedule me in a timely manner, and go above and beyond to meet my needs. When I arrived I was greeted by a gentlemen named Richard who was very kind and informative about the appointment and what services they had to offer. They pulled my vehicle in and explained the whole process to me about what had to be done to get my exhaust to work. Then Ben the owner came in and reassured me that he would be able to get the job done and at a very respectful price. 1 hour later and the job was done. The whole time while waiting Richard talked to me about other services they had to offer for some of my other issues with my vehicle. I felt reassured that these gentleman were honest and trustworthy. I m truly blown away by how amazing the quality of the work and the professionalism I received while at Ben s. Not only did I get exactly what I wanted but the quality of the welds and craftsmanship truly shows. Ben and his crew are truly talented in their craft. Cars to me are like family. I ve always had a hard time trusting others to work on my vehicle, but Ben has earned my trust and I will be back!Service: Exhaust

Well, I didn't love the price, but it is what it is. I needed new air-conditioned in my truck! They diagnosed it. We made an appt 10 days out. They kept us informed of any issues or changes. Very professional. I have cold AC now!

Says they do engine work/repair but won't even adjust lifters on my 95 chevy, simple work for a good mechanic, no one discussed anything, I asked if you could adjust or replace lifters on my truck because one is stuck or damaged or if you guys do that type of work and the answer was just No, no discussion, and these lifters are able to be adjusted but either way there was no effort put to figure that out or to even see the truck to determine if they could be changed, the answer was no, I know exactly what's going on with my truck but I'll just do it myself, I'd rather spend the money to let someone do it but no one wants to

Drop my truck off to get an alternator and the serpentine belt replaced hour and a half job. 6 hours later I get a call that they're finally done with it. And the bill was at least $150 more than it should have been. I would not recommend anybody go to the shop.Just as I thought. This guy twisted the story and lied about what happened.

My family and I had came down for a week of relaxation at the beach. Unfortunately, our ac went out on our vehicle. We called around to several places and most places told us that it would be one to two weeks before they could get to it to fix it. When I called Ben s I told them the situation and how we only had a few days before we were leaving and needed it fixed ASAP. They were friendly and informative over the phone and gave us a quote over the phone. He told me if I could get the vehicle to his shop that day, which was a wed morning, that he could have it back by Thursday. True to his word he called me Thursday morning and said it was ready to be picked up. They had to replace the compressor and the condenser which is not an easy task. The other thing we was worried about was the warranty. When we went to pick up the vehicle he told us that After we got back home from vacation and had any problems that NAPA honored their warranties and we could take it to them instead of driving 7 hours back to Ben s. We were very pleased with the whole experience. I would highly recommend Ben s Automotive. Thanks guys for letting us enjoy our vacation even in a bad situation. We enjoyed that AC for the whole 7 hour trip home !!!

Great place with fair to great prices. They'll get your vehicle up and running in short order and will consult you on what needs fixing on the way. Highly recommend. As an aside: if you have a diesel, even an old mechanical one, they will fix it. Real hard to find a good diesel mechanic in Bay County. They did a great job on mine.

LOVE these guys, glad I rediscovered them!! They moved after the hurricane and have a different name.I cannot give them enough credit. I had a rather scary issue with my truck for the past 3 years, it just got a lot worse this summer. So many close calls with almost being hit and uncertainty if my truck was going to be able to get out of the way. Ford Autonation and other shops told me they hooked up the diagnostic machine and nothing was wrong .However, Ben s Automotive ACTUALLY listened to me and agreed that there was something wrong. It was my spark plugs. Now my truck works great and I don t have the same fear of being hit or not being able to accelerate. No more grandma driving!Recently noticed a leak, they checked it out as well instead of depending on the machine. Thanks for listening :D

Ok place for just about any job or any size. The quality of the work you're going to get is very questionable. Spent 1100 bucks on a oil pan gasket for me to get under the car and see oil leaking from every bolt holding the pan due to them not being torqued down properly. And they returned the truck to me with a new check engine light that was not there before.

Very pleasant when I first called. Knowledgeable when I brought my car in for air conditioner repair. Fair price for billing. I am happy with their work and recommend the Mad Hatter Automotive on East Avenue.

I brought my car in because the brake pedal went nearly to the floor before stopping. There were no leaks but fluid was low. Other than that my car (a fully restored antique 'muscle car') drove perfectly. I was told the problem was the master cylinder ($250.00). After picking up the car and driving for a few miles the car pulled sharply to the right when braking. I suspected the brakes were not bled properly but was told a rear suspension bushing needed to be replaced ($450.00). After picking up the car this time and driving for a few miles the car still pulled to one side when braking. I was now told the problem was the front brakes lines needed to be replaced (even though they were fairly new) for an another $115.00 . Again, after driving a few miles the car still had serious tracking issues. In addition, when I picked up the car this time the A/C which was fully reconditioned was not working! I went back the next day and while discussing the problems the owner (Ben) decided to 'jump all over me' concerning the audacity as to my calmly questioning just exactly what was done and what now needed to be done. This was done in front of other customers and employees and was very embarrassing for everyone (except Ben). If you go there, take a good look around. There are 'junkyards' that look better than his shop which should have been an indication to me of the professional level of their service. Now after spending over $800.00 for repairs that may not have been necessary when the car initially was brought in (caused by ineptness, aggressive joyriding, whatever?) , I was now faced with taking my car somewhere else to make it derivable. As it turned out, the suspension bushing on the other side was also 'broken', but the 'not so good' news is that it was fixed for less than I was charged at Mad Hatter. Besides that they had the car for nearly two weeks! Simply put 'Caveat Emptor'.
