Jeff is a very disrectful person, this place should be shut down he tried to overcharged me for a transmission and gotten very disrespectful when I told his I have found cheaper services , he left my parts outside in rain and also denied my card payment and tossed my card on the counter and said bring me cash , I would not go to this place if I was you, he only care about money not customers, all these negative reviews are not lies. , DO NOT GO HERE

What a crook. Especially after reading some of the reviews, which guess I learned my lesson to read first. Was quoted a price to replace clutch and fix oil leak at either rear engine seal or oil bottom pan. Set price for labor, plus parts. After the trans was out and the truck was stranded, I was informed it was going to be another $1,700 just for labor to drop the oil pan and install a new gasket!! Saying they had to raise the eng to replace the pan seal.Funny, 18 years ago another company didn't have to " raise the eng" to replace the pan gasket when they did the timing chain. So the bill went from $1,200 labor to $2,900 labor after they trans was out.Salt in the wound, went to pick up the truck and was told they only take, cash, certified bank, bank transfer. Don't know too many people that carry $4,100i n cash in their pocket. Let me add to this. Been a month or so and truck wouldn't start. When they put a new Hydraulic clutch line in they broke the cover to the safety switch. So when you depress the clutch it wouldn't stay on the rod. Just paid $65.00 for a new one

Previous bad post taken down based on conversation with Jeff, the owner. I should not have taken down. Not only charge was 300 more than quote, but now heatshield is loose, along with catalytic converter wire hanging down to ground. . Shoddy work...after $1300 dollars one would think they could hang a wire. Also found out that they welded my tow hitch to frame without my knowledge or permission. Cost me $200 to have welds cut.Don't go hereServices: Transmission, Auto exhaust system repair, Transmission replacement

Great customer service and friendly staff. They rebuilt my transmission 2 years ago & did a great job. Transmission is still strong no problem s at all. Bill was more then quoted by a few hundred so couldn t get extended warranty but luckily I haven t had no problems. Highly recommend for transmission rebuilt, my was the famous 4l60e. Monster transmission built a bulletproof 4l60e that didn t last 5 months for me A1 transmission rebuilt mine and still strong 2 years later. Bringing in another truck with same trans for rebuilt soon Service: Transmission

If you glance through the reviews, you will notice the common trend of how they "operate".I was told my transmision is dying and must be changed ASAP, and that the car is not safe to drive. Was quoted $3000 to change the transmission or same amount to sell my "broken" car on the spot.I took it elsewhere and transmission was perfect, only a bad solenoid and harness that was fixed the next day.Avoid this place or be conned.

I m not the type to write reviews, but because of my interaction with A1 Transmission (Jeff) I m going to break that rule. In fairness, the exhaust work was good; no complaints. However, if you re looking for an estimate, not going to happen as the prices are based on how Jeff is feeling that day. Get everything in writing before the job starts and make sure you tell Jeff if he finds something beyond the work discussed to call you before making any new repairs. If not, you will be sorry. If you re looking to do custom work, look for someone else - had me ordering parts we didn t need and had the audacity to charge us for incomplete work -meaning new parts didn t work, and when we took the car to get aligned they found loose parts (SMH). By the grace of God my son was not in a wreck due to their negligence. Trust the reviews!Service: Auto maintenance

I don t know which is worse. Customer service or the work. Took my car in for a normal clutch change, when I picked it up it was a little more than quoted but I paid it.I drove it for an hour and took it back and told the owner it wasn t right. He said drive it for the weekend and it should adjust itself. The next day it left me stranded on the beach. I got it towed to him and he said the new clutch kit was bad and I would have to pay labor again to swap it out. I go to pick it up and it s still not working properly so I was told it was the master cylinder so I had to pay for one of those to be installed. Picked it up again and drive it home, next morning I have no gears at all had to get it towed once again to be told that the shift rod broke and they welded it together then I pick it up again and I have no 2nd gear, he blamed that on the clutch malfunctioning the first time . Now not even a week later the cv axle is falling out where they didn t secure it and yet I m stuck once again.I am also blocked on their Facebook for letting potential customers know the danger.Service: Transmission

I brought my truck to Jeff with transmission issues. He told me it needed a full replacement and he said it would cost roughly $4800. I thought that was pretty high so I checked around and I was right every other transmission shop in town was at least $1500 cheaper than him. I told him to bill me for pulling the transmission in which he told me it would be $1000 but he would only accept cash. Being that this is a company truck I told him I could not pay in cash since it would come from my business account. I had my accountant wire him the money. After it cleared my account and his account he still refused to release my truck. Even his wife told him to release it because he had been paid. He went as far as calling the police to have us removed from the property. Thankfully when they showed he was told he has no legal standing to hold my truck as he had been paid. As it just so happens he told his employees to leave so no one would be around to drop my truck down off the rack and give me my transmission that was still out of the truck. On top of everything else I have a funeral to go to tomorrow. Fair warning to anyone don t take your vehicles there don t purchase cars from his car lot as they are all badly damaged cars left over from hurricane Michael

Had a terrible experience, brought my truck in,they pulled transmission and disassembled it. Did he told me $4,000 to rebuild, I said I cannot pay $4,000 for that transmission, he then told me that I owed him $1,400 for pulling my transmission in disassembling it. I told him that was ridiculous, then he said if I could not afford it to bring him the title to the truck and he would use it for a shop truck. I paid the $1,400 brought it to a transmission shop within 10 miles from his shop, they looked at my transmission parts and said they see nothing wrong, so they reassembled my transmission with my old parts put it back in then found out all it needed was a speed sensor, so I'm using my same transmission with my same parts . The new transmission shop told me they could have fixed my truck for a hundred bucks if I would have brought it to them first. But instead it cost me $1,400 to have it removed and disassembled and then the new shop only charged me $600 to reassemble it and put it back in then $200 to fix the issue with the transmission..

Biggest scam. Guy charged me $300 to do a diagnostic. When I returned for my van all he told me was he was get U Codes I asked him for a print out he said he can t give me and that I should replace the transmission. After that I let him knew that I took the vehicle by Ford and all it needed to change was the U Joints he then said those needed to be changed too lol . Long story short never take your vehicle here.

Awesome experience with these people. Been jumping from auto shop to auto shop to fix a coolant leak, and these people were the first to do the job right! They made urgency of time a high priority and got me on the road as soon as possible, as well as all the employees were very polite and considerate in answering all questions and servicing my vehicle the full 100% without cutting corners. Definitely recommend to anybody trying to escape the crazy costs of dealership repairs.

I do not normally post these kind of reviews. But, I was so disgusted with this shop that I felt compelled to do so. I read the review from the other guy here who has a truck and all the problems with his transmission and mine was very similar. I had a quote from another shop for $780 when I came in Jeff (the owner) told me he could do the whole job for under 1000. The reason I went to that was because I wanted to get the job done quickly and the other shop would not give me in for a couple weeks. Jeff had my Mustang for two weeks before they ever even touched it. I Voice my concern about this and he said "well were busy". When I finally did get my Mustang back I brought it home and put it in the garage that evening. I got up the next morning to go for a ride I noticed a large red leak underneath my Mustang. I contacted Jeff Payne is very indifferent about fixing it and not at all apologetic. I got the mustang back to them brought it back home put it back in the garage and the next morning had another leak in the same area. I had to go out of town for a week and now I am hoping they will take it back Monday and get it fixed right this time. You would think for $1500 these problems wouldn't happen. Do not take anything to this company. You will be overcharged and it will take a lot longer than you want and they will not call you to give you an update. It ended up costing me $1500 which was twice what I would've paid at the other shop in 500 more than he promised me I can get it done for. They don't care about the customer just the money. So if I can save someone the headache of having to overpay and receive bad service I feel better about it.

Took my Dodge charger there to rebuild my transmission he quoted me 1200$ to 1500$ Ok not bad . He doesn't even touch it for 2 weeks and once it was taken apart he tells me it will 4,800$, are u kidding you can buy a brand new one for 2,400$ so I got the car back and took it to gears transmissions and save a lot of money. And Jeff still charge 800$ for 3 to 5 hr job. This place is garbage do yourself a favor and save some time and money and go elsewhere

Brought car in because it running loud and sounded awful. Couldn't accelerate very good either. Mechanic named Dave looked it over and found some deterioration in my exhaust. He patched it up for me while I waited. Didn't take long and he was very friendly. Gotta hand it to him. Thanks Dave for your hard work and dedication to making your customer happy!Services: Transmission, Exhaust

Just WOW - WOW, WOW...1- The address in navigation is off by several miles from AFFORDABLE TRANSMISSION, so I landed their accidentally.2- My car was towed to AFFORDABLE/-3- He seemed informative, but he s a super slick talker. Fast talker. He clearly isn t a mechanic either - he wheels & deals in his office4- He bet me $4000 cash in his pocket the company I was going with wouldn t have my car ready in time & the price wouldn t be what I was quoted- If so I get $4k from him. My car is ready & came in as quoted5- Would you like to know how fast he talks & quotes numbers & shakes them? I have a very easy brain to follow simple math in whole numbers. Mathmetically, if I asked he spike louder & faster.6- He got irate when I told him i was staying with Affordable Transmissions who came with 4 highly respected people s & pros referrals. He was talking price so fast assuming i made the decision like that.No - He s got a bad reputation & proved it nor did one person suggest them. Simply STAY AWAY is what I was told.Be sure if you re headed to Affordable Transmission & end up there, keep going down E Ave - you ll find the correct address. Sad but truth.

BEWARE OF THIS CROOK. Long story short, my a/c went out on a gmc arcadia that I bought from his used car lot. (Turns out the vehicle had all sorts of electrical problems, but that's a different story) so anyway I needed to have my a/c fixed, which i was intending on taking it to the a/c repair shop located right next to a1, but my boyfriend mistakenly went to this shop instead. The car was already taken apart by the time I realized this the mistake, so given that he gave me a good price and said it would be done by the end of the day, I paid him the 1500 to replace the compressor and fix my a/c. One week later it goes out again. Not willing to let him touch my car again, and lacking the money to have it replaced again, I have been driving without a/c for awhile now. Now I'm having all kinds of overheating engine issues that I can only blame on the faulty a/c repair job he did and and strain it has put on my cooling system. Do yourself a favor and avoid this guy

I took my 6.0 F 350 truck there for repairs and they charged 20 hours for what Ford charges 12 hours to do at the same hourly rate the Ford charges. This tells me that either they don't have the experience to do it in a timely manner, or that they just want to charge as much as they can and gouge customers with their pricing. I ended up taking my truck to another mechanic who is charging me fairly to put it back together. Unfortunately, I had to pay for 10 hours of service just for them to break the engine down and not even do half of the job. Lesson learned, $1,250 lesson learned, I will never go to this place again for service on any vehicle.

I brought my car in to replace the transmission, and was told it would be fixed brand-new. It wasn't and when asked I was told that they didn't have the correct computer to finnished the job. Their excuse was that not all cars needed that to finnish the job. I get that I had just wish they told me that before I left my car with them.Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

Crooked, overpriced service. The bottom line- Slow service: took A-1 Transmission 7 days before they even took my transmission apart- Expensive: charged $810 for a job that takes approximately 5-6 hours. Other shops quoted $350-$550 for an 8 hour job of similar scope (old transmission out, new transmission in).- Evident lack of expertise: A-1 Transmission s solution to any problem is to buy a rebuild kit and swap parts, even if the rebuild kit is not required. The experienceI rebuilt the transmission on my truck myself but was having an issue with one of the clutch packs. I called their shop, per a friend s recommendation, and asked if they would mind taking a look at my issue. The shop happily sent over their "free" towing service, for which I was later charged $50. Jeff, the owner of A-1 Transmission, said that he would have one of his mechanics take the transmission apart to see if they could find the issue. For the next 7 days, I never received an update call. I called the shop every day, and every day, Jeff told me that they had not yet disassembled the transmission. On the 7th day, the owner told me that they had finally taken the transmission apart and it needed a full rebuild. He said that they would need to purchase a full rebuild kit and that the repairs would cost $2800. I knew this was unnecessary since I had just rebuilt the transmission and the clutches and steels had 0 miles on them (I later found that my problems were because I had put a reaction plate in the place of a pressure plate. The fix was very easy, took 5 minutes, and required no additional parts.).By this point, I was not comfortable with the shop's competence. I told the owner to stop all work, pack up the parts, and that I would pick the truck up and do the repairs myself. I asked Jeff to figure out how much I owed him for their work so that I could pay him before I picked up the truck. He told me that I owed $810 for the work and the "free" tow. Knowing that the amount of work his shop performed could not be more than 5-6 hours, I asked the owner how much time they had spent on my truck. He said that they did not keep track but that he estimated 10 hours: 6 hours to pull the transmission, 2 hours to take the transmission apart, and 2 hours to box up my parts. I know from experience (backed up by many internet sites) that it takes approximately 4 hours to pull a transmission, 30 minutes to an hour to disassemble a transmission, and less than 10 minutes to place a few items in a box. To confirm my suspicions that I was being grossly overcharged, I called a few shops in the area and asked how much they charge to remove a transmission and then install a new transmission. This is approximately an 8 hour job - 4 hours to take out the transmission, 4 hours to put in the new transmission. Panhandle Transmission quoted me $350 and Bill's Transmission quoted my $550. This means that A-1 was charging me 370% of the local rate. I brought this information to Jeff s attention but he refused to drop the price. Since the truck is my daily driver, I had no choice but to pay the excessive $810. On the day that I scheduled to pick up my truck, I contacted the shop to make sure my vehicle would be ready when I arrived. Jeff assured me many times that the truck would be ready. Of course, when I showed up, my truck was still in the back and my parts had not been boxed up. I was made to wait an hour before one of the shop's employees was free and could retrieve my vehicle. In all, I was extremely dissatisfied with the quality of the service provided and the outrageously high prices. I will never take any of my vehicles back to A-1 Transmission and I strongly discourage others from making the same mistake.

I took my 2002 VW Jetta in last January for a full transmission replacement for $3,000. I got it back in February and not 3-4 months later the transmission had been getting stuck in 3rd gear. Keep in mind the transmission has a warranty for a year and I took it back as soon as I realized the problem for them to tell me it s not the transmission. I decided to take it to the VW dealership who diagnosed it as the valve body inside the transmission and recommended a full transmission replacement and I brought this back to A1 transmission and they said they would call the warranty place and have them look at it. A couple days go by and they say it s not their problem and the warranty doesn t cover it. I m in the military and was out of a car for drill. I had to borrow others cars and after paying these people $3,000 I would think they could stick to their word and fix the problem with the transmission they sold me and installed. I didn t want to have to put this out there but they are refusing to help me and I think they re just waiting until the warranty expires. Small claims court is my next step. I have every visit and all paperwork documented. I m just asking for y all to make this right.

Took my truck in because the transmission had a shake to it, there were no leaks and the transmission SHIFTED FINE before i took my vehicle to this establishment. I let them work on my vehicle thinking it would be around a $1,000, because there is a sign on the building clearly stating that "quote" for transmission work. So i messed up on letting them work on my vehicle because i thought they were a good place to go, especially by the way they "assured" me of everything and were extremely confident. I received a call the two days later and went to the garage, the transmission was TORN TO PIECES!!! But come to find out, it was just a cracked fly-wheel. I spoke to the mechanic while the owner wasn't around and the mechanic informed me that other transmission shops were using old parts and clutchs etc. The mechanic informed that "he could beef up my transmission for $350" but when i recieved the quote for $1,700 I told them to not put in those specialty parts in so the cost would go down. But no, it stayed at $1,700. So what did i pay for??? I honestly don't know if i got my true "rebuild". But keep in mind it was a CRACKED FLY WHEEL, which the mechanic should've figured that out when he pulled out the transmission So i went and bought a GOOD used flywheel for $50. Alright, now remember in the begining how i stated thst NOTHING WAS LEAKING!! I got my truck back from this "company" and my transmisson started LEAKING OUT OF THE TAIL. The mechanic said i needed a new slip joint off the drive shaft, i went and bought another drive shaft from a salvage yard, the slip joint wouldn't go into the transmisson because of a bad spline. So while the vehicle was at A'-1 I had to help the mechanic with fixing my own truck telling the mechanic i had to leave as soon as possible to go out of town. Take in mind while i'm helping this mechanic i am disabled. I HAVE PICTURES TO PROVE I WAS WORKING ON THAT TRUCK, once the picture was taken the mechanic got upset but i didn't understand why. I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORK ON MY OWN VEHICLE AFTER PAYING A $1,700 SERVICE FEE! THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY!!! BECAUSE IT WAS JUAT A $5 SEAL! I HAD TO POINT OUT that the slip joint wouldn't fit properly. I had to go out of town for three weeks because i'm getting custody of my granddaughter, the mechanic said he would help me out and take care of my truck, word for word he said "I got your back, I can take care of this." I got a call from the owner while i was driving to seee my granddaughter the next day WHILE I WAS DRIVING, he was being extremely combative, yelling & cursing "wanting my truck the hell out of there." I told him to put my old drive shaft in since the new one wasn't working, and i would take care of it once i got back into town, they said they wanted the truck gone, when my son went to go pick up the truck off of their lot they wanted $125 or he couldn't take the truck of the premises. My son paid for the fee AND NEVER GOT A RECIEPT!!!!! I got home from visiting my granddaughter and looked under the truck, the salvage yard drive shaft was in the vehicle and the slip joint wasn't in the transmission all the way the carrier baring's had an inch slot in it. They sent the truck out to my son that way to drive home like that. I live an hour away. Not knowing that the drive shaft was in there due to me being out of town. When i got home I put my ORIGINAL drive shaft back in, AND IT DID NOT LEAK! So a $50 fix turned into $1,700 fix FROM THEIR MISTAKES!!! This is NOT a fair business, they are very quick to try and get one over on your just for a Dollar. Businesses like this in our small town, is what ruins it for other small business owners. I AM PROBABLY GOING TO LOSE MY YEAR WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THIS! I'm not rich by ANY MEANS, so year $1,700 makes a huge difference in my house hold. Thank you A-1 transmission, now i can at least inform people of how badly your customer service or just all around services are the worst in BAY COUNTY! By the way, replying to these comments, calling people names isn't very "businessmen" like of you. Cont.Service: Transmission

This is the worst place ever!! I am filing a lawsuit. They cleared out warnings on a car they sold me. That is so illegal, and dangerous. This place is horrible!! I have a diagnostic report I've tried to contact them to have them correct this. I could have died or killed someone in my vehicle. The referred me to their attorney. When I called the attorneys office they said they were not representing them. Jeff Martin's business will be OUT of business when I am done. They are horrible non reputable car dealers and auto mechanics. Do not give them your money or your business!

My friend took his van there. 2016 The guy Chester had worked on other vehicles for him. "Did a GREAT job". So he took his business van had car for 4-6 weeks. Charged him close to $4000. He drove it for less than 2 weeks. It's been parked for 18 months. It was even worse than it was. He could drive van 2-3ft and just about have to push it. The gears in transmission not working to move van. Since then, my friend has been Leary of every mechanic. That's why he STILL hasn't had it fixed.

An easy 1.5 hour job, a transmission flush and filter change, took ALL day. When I was going to pick up my car Jeff forgot to tell me he got the wrong transmission filter and it was going to take another week to get in and finished up my car. That was not an option so I bought the filter myself (in stock at ford) so I could finish the job at home. He was trying to up charge on just the fluid flush. These guys are crooks and I don't think they even touched my car. Total waste of time and money. If you care the slightest bit about your car don't take it here!

I purchased a Jeep Wrangler Sahara from A1 Auto & Truck Sales. The sales representative went by the name of TJ. I had just returned from my Air Force Basic Military Training and needed reliable transportation to and from work. I was told that there was no underlying issue with this vehicle. I test drove the vehicle and it seemed to be in decent condition. I paid over $9,000 for this used vehicle. I noticed that my Jeep was pulling me off the road. After having a professional look under my vehicle, they noticed the reason. The complete under body of this vehicle was completely rusted out and rotting. The damages were so severe; there was no way these were developed in 7 months' time. The vehicle was too dangerous to drive. It was a few speed bumps away from my frame snapping completely in half. All of the brake lines and wires underneath were rusted and about to break in half as well. I took the vehicle up to A1 Auto to show the damages. At first the owner of both car dealership and auto shop came out and proceeded to tell me that my vehicle was not pulling me off the road due to the rusted frame. He was rude and acted as though he did not want to own up to his employee's bad salesmanship. He kept stating that this employee no longer worked for him "for a reason". His new employee seemed as though he wanted to help and said he would see what they could do to fix this issue. They returned with price of $1500 flat for everything to make up for the ex-employee and his dishonest and crooked sale. I was unable to get the statement in writing. My Jeep sat in their parking lot for over 1 week while I was researching if there was anything that could be done about this awful business. They were searching for a frame to replace the broken/damaged one during this time. I had called three times and left two voicemails concerned about my vehicle and did not get a response until I showed up at the dealership asking to speak to someone. Once I told them to proceed with fixing my Jeep, they then explained that the $1500 dollars was only going to cover the labor needed to fix my vehicle. By this time, I was so upset I removed my vehicle from their property hoping to make it to a different auto body shop to be better taken care of. I am a new airman in the United States Air Force and recently living off base on my own. I explained to the owner that I was active duty and needed a reliable vehicle to get me to base and back for work. I was lied to and made undocumented promises for labor to fix minor and major issues on my Jeep that arose after I left the lot. This vehicle should have never been sold to anyone in this condition. Any good salesman would have pointed this issue out prior or gave a warning. The damages to my frame were so severe, that it could have broken and caused an accident resulting in severe injuries or death to me or any vehicle around me. The current shop my vehicle is in cannot believe I was sold this Jeep in this condition or even treated in such manor. I was treated as if I did not matter to the owner because the man who sold this vehicle was no longer there. Both men at this business kept repeating the fact that they did not in fact have to help me at all. They stated that "Most dealers would have told you to kick rocks". They made it seem as though I should be thankful that they even considered helping me out on a damaged vehicle that they sold to me in that condition. They are liars and crooks and should be out of business for the way they treat their local military members and customers. I am trying to prevent someone else going through something this awful.
