I almost hesitated to write this review, because, when you finally find a great mechanic, it's sort of like a good restaurant, you want to keep it to yourself. But Fred and his son have always treated me and anyone I've sent their way like family. I never have any doubts about the quality of their work or the fairness of their price. I sometimes jokingly refer to Fred as an "unambitious" mechanic because he'll be the first one to tell me if the issue with my car is something that needs to addressed immediately or can wait awhile. He's never pushy and always looking to do what's best for the customer. I'm someone who hopes to keep my old, sad-looking car on the road for at least another 100,000 miles, and with Fred as my mechanic, that doesn't seem unrealistic at all. Fred is amazing. He was my trusted mechanic for three years before I left Gainesville. He's prompt, honest, and never tried to sell me on extra work to my car that I didn't really need. I absolutely recommend him to anyone who needs car work.

Fred has been our trusted mechanic for years. It's an unconventional experience compared to your chain mechanic shop, to be sure, but it's completely worth it. He always treats our cars with care and professionalism and I know that his prices are more than fair. His labor may be a little more expensive per hour than your usual mechanic, but if he bills you for something he did it two hours that the other guy said would take him four, you do the math. This shop is Gainesville's best kept secret! (Also, if you have a late model foreign or domestic car that you want to step up in the horsepower department, this shop is a tuner's powerhouse! Check it out!)

Bar none, Fred is the best mechanic in the city of Gainesville. We've brought him dozens of issues to troubleshoot for many cars for our families for many years. Prices reasonable and he always looks for money saving alternatives. The best!

Fred is the best mechanic in Gainesville. He is very knowledgeable and experienced. He explains everything about your car and the problems you are having. He is also the most reasonably priced mechanic in Gainesville. I trust him, which I have never been able to say about any other mechanic anywhere!

I have been going to Fred for more than 20 years and am always very pleased with his work and prices. He is always looking to find the least expensive solution. You need to be a little patient with his schedule but I highly recommend him.

Great service all around! Was extremly kind, knowledgeable, and willing to help me. Had some spark plug issues, as well as coil issues. Within 3 days the car was fixed and ready to drive. I 100% recommend that you take your car to this shop. Legit mechanics!

This is my first time ever writing for an auto business and I believe Conkling Auto deserves it. I recently had a bubble on the inside side wall of my front passenger tire so I had to find someone to put new ones on. Since the tires I have on my wheels are slightly stretched, pretty much all automotive businesses in Gainesville won't put new ones on because of the "reliability" issue that comes with. I called all around Gainesville and even a place in Alachua and Ocala. No one would do it. On the last call I made, Jeff's German Auto suggested I call Conkling Auto. I gave them a call, and they told me they could do it while also selling me the exact tires I had for a bit cheaper than would other places were telling me. This was the first time I had ever been to this place so of course I was a little hesitant, but as soon as I got there, I felt like I was gonna be in good hands. This place is the closest thing you'll get to JDM heaven in Gainesville. 300ZX, S14, S13, 2JZ drift build, the place was crazy. The place got the job done plain and simple, no BS and no issues. I'll definitely be going back if I have any issues in the future.Services: Tires, Wheel alignment

Yesterday evening my 4runner started making a loud noise in the rear passenger tire. (Like bottle caps or cans dragging) I called my mechanic and left a message and went to work. I happen to work right beside a chain mechanic shop and my boss suggested I take it there for a diagnosis before my mechanic looked at it. It cost me $15 for them to look and tell me it that my parkingbreak drum was in pieces- cost of repair would be just under $600. They had to take my axel off to repair it. I told them thanks but no thanks. Fred Conkling of Conkling Auto called right then and diagnosed my problem without hearing the noise or looking at my truck. Took a $35 part and an hour to fix. No axel was removed.If you need someting fixed, call Fred. He and his son do Excellent work at a fair price. They will show you the problem. Give you choices and not upsell parts. These men will fix it right and do it in a timely manner.Thanks Conkling for the care of my vehicle.

Excellent service and reasonable pricing. Fred explained everything, walked me through everything. Quoted a price and honored it, despite having worked on it longer than estimated. Brought in mid to late afternoon and it was done by closing. A very fair and honest mechanic. A rare find these days.

I never leave reviews anywhere but THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE EXCEPTIONAL PLACE to do business. I am in the retail auto industry and there s a reason I go to these guys and these guys only. Not only do they go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied, but they also educate you about your vehicle.
