UPDATE: Permanently Closed!Due to Hurricane Ian's wrath boats were stacked 3 high on top of the buildings. Considering the extensive damage to Every Building & piece of equipment, the decision was made to not reopen.I do hope whoever takes over the location keeps the shipwright industry here in FMB. We need repair facilities not just for commercial equipment, but for cruisers and local liveaboard vessels. The location is ideal for shallow draft vessels and its proximity to the mooring field provided easy access.I'd love to know where the excellent staff is now employed so I can provide them my business.Prior to the storm:Professional and fast service. They were able to fit me in for a bottom job and prop replacement on very short notice. Dom was a great help when it came time to locating an odd sized replacement prop.

Wow! Dominic and his team at Olsen Marine were fantastic. We are so happy with the services provided. Our boat looks amazing. We needed a cleaning, paint job, and various mechanical jobs. They truly went above & beyond. The family atmosphere at the marina is the result of it being a family business for over 50 years which is reassuring. The sons of the owners were out working on boats when we stopped by to check on our sailboat. You can feel the love at this marina! At the end of the day we are so happy with the work Olsen Marine provided. They are now our one stop shop for our sailboat! Cheers!Services: Boat cleaning, Tune-ups, Valve adjustment, Accessory & electronic installations, Engine repair

Dominic and his crew at Olsen Marine Services is the most professional boat yard that I have ever been to. We have had work done - in the past - on our boat after the survey found a few issues, and THAT yard (in TX) was the complete OPPOSITE of Olsen. This has got to be the cleanest and most organized yard in the South East of the US. Dominic and his guys had our boat for 2 weeks and gave us back work that was superlative. We did some bottom damage to our boat, and after talking with Dominic, decided to pursue the repair with our insurance company - we didn't even think to do that. He said he would take care of everything-- and he did as promised. Props were repaired, struts were straightened, fiberglass was faired in and the bottom got a new paint job. All top quality work. Dominic is an interesting guy, you'll see. We'll be back in a few years to have the bottom done again. Thanks Dom!Service: General repairs & maintenance

Bought a new to me 1998 Formula 330 SS, bought after full survey and engine inspections. Starboard engine went to max revs after 30 sec on plane after buying. Welcome to boating. Was not really a surprised given the 23 yr old boat. That now meant had to find a shop that could not only repair but also had same empathy for an older boat (by today's standards). to work on an older boat, especially older Merc Stern-drives, and get schedule to do so before the repair rush at high season. No pressure from family.Being 2020, things were not normal, as we all know. had numerous strong recommendations for Olsen Marine and warnings that it was hard mechanics who will work to older stern-drive setups. From the first, where Dominick by kept his haul out lift open while we limped 25 miles on one engine. Checking in periodically making sure all was progressing and ready when we got there. After Olsen Marine's engine specialist checked things over, showed the suspected need for major repairs including the full plate of repairs: including engine, stern-drive, hull fiberglass, and electrical (which was a nightmare of poor splices, corrosion, etc) . Dominick's team tackled each problem section by section and kept me informed of progress.Olsen Marine also painted the bottom (gave nice color options), looks great. Fixed some major glass and wood rot in the firewall, that was found when an engine was pulled for coupler repair. They even detailed the engine and put on corrosion X (I was told I should do so by an old knowledgeable Salty neighbor who saved my tail when had failure and getting to Olsen. He was pleasantly surprised not seeing that level detail these days with some outfits. My wife commented on how clean the shop is, which was part of my initial impression that gave confidence to work with Olsen Marine and Team. That has proven well founded. Seeing the shop let me see the level of professionalism and pride and knew that would translate to the service. It did beating expectations. It was refreshing to see Olsen Marine Team show such enthusiasm in working on the old American boat and bringing it back to fully functioning.. They loved showing me the purring sound of the two old school 454s, with and without the repaired "captains call".Lastly I do highly recommend Olsen Marine.David H.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair, Oil change

My wife and I have been sailing in Florida and Bahamas since 2014. We're normally sailing November thru April and then return to Iowa. Our boat 35 foot sailboat developed a leak in the keel/bilge area and needed service. We spoke with several people we knew about yards in the area and Olsen Marine Service came recommended. They are a small boat yard in Fort Myers Beach. I feel that they took good care of us and Anthony made my wife feel re-assured that they could find the problems and fix it.. I'm happy with their service and the price was very reasonable. I would recommend them to anyone.Service: General repairs & maintenance

The best word to use when describing Olsen Marine Services is "professional."After the hull of my 36 foot sailboat was seriously scared when Tropical Storm Florence tore apart the floating dock I was sheltering in, I took my boat to Olsen Marine Services for the hull to be completely repaired and repainted to include below the water line anti-fouling treatment. The extensive hull maintenance provided a logical opportunity for the installation of a Side-Power bow thruster. Lastly, I requested that my boat's power train be completely serviced. The results of Olsen Marine Services' efforts are a boat hull that looks absolutely new and a bow thruster that, having been tested by myself, can overcome all but storm force winds and currents. I have had my boat's drive train serviced by a number of different boat yards, always personally closely observing the process. The Olsen service was more comprehensive than any other. Finally, the work was completed under the estimated quote. While in the Southwest Florida area, I will call upon Olsen Marine Services only for maintenance of my sailboat.

I hired to Olsen Marine Service to make repairs to my sailboat. The quality of work was substandard. When I asked Dominick to fix the mistakes - he refused. One of the items was the repair and painting of the boat deck. He painted the deck the wrong color. Additionally - there are several spots were there are runs in the paint and spots where the primer is showing through the awlgrip paint. I noticed the runs and thin paint spots after I picked the boat up - so Dominick advised that since I took the boat (and paid his bill) - I somehow relieved him of any responsibility. As far as painting - based on feedback I have received from other marine paint shops - the quality of their work is inconsistent with what I paid and what would be expected of a professional repair yard. I would never recommend Olsen Marine Service to a friend. I would be happy to provide photos of the drips and poor workmanship to anyone that is considering having them do work on their boat.Additional update - now less then 1 year after painting - the awlgip paint is flaking off. I spoke to a marina near me and they said this is clearly a case of poor preparation by the installer. Buyer beware! And this paint is inside the sliding hatch area - so it is only exposed to the sunlight and weather when the hatch is open!

Can t say enough about this place! Everyone was so knowledgeable, professional and knew exactly how to fix our issues with our boat. They cost so much less than other places we called to get bids on. Dom pulled boat out with ease and showed us our problem. Parts were delivered the next morning and put on boat. Boat fixed and sent us on our way the next morning! Will always recommend to others!! Thanks guys!

I m a 50 year resident of Fort Myers. The company that did my bottom paint on my Hurricane no longer does that so I had to find another one. I ve known Olsen Marine all my life and decided to use them. Had a chat with Dominick and set my appointment. Within two weeks I delivered my boat and was surprisingly done in two days. Wow am I impressed with their service and excellent paint job. My sailboat is next. Thank you for standing out for your excellence and you have a new lifetime customer !

I was referred to Olsen by my Harbour Master who manages my 44 Sedan Bridge on a weekly basis for me. I trust Eric (harbour master) explicitly and once again I was shown why I do. Dominick at Olsen Marine was straight forward and did not try and nickle and dime me. His prices were completely fair and yet his work exceeded expectations. I will definitely utilize Olsen in the future; being newer to this size of boat and type of boating (live year round in the midwest and use our boat as a Florida condo) it was refreshing the way they handled themselves. Especially, after a horrible experience with a major boat dealer in Naples and Fort Myers (well they have many dealerships throughout the country, most will put it together who) that just tried to take advantage at every turn. Normally I do not write reviews but when I am pleasantly surprised and the experience finally is what i would give a customer its easy to jump on and write one. Thank you to the whole Olsen Marine team!Service: General repairs & maintenance

Olsen Marine is without question is one of the best kept secrets in the Marine industry. It is so hard to find honest dependable and really good Marine services,I did- I brought my 42 for trawler to Olson Marine and can tell you that my experience was top notched, I have brought my vessel to other marinas that quite honestly have just ripped me off, that will not happen at Olsen Marine they are honest trustworthy and really did the right thing. So if you re looking for a Marina with full services that you can trust Olsen Marine is absolutely the way to go, the owner (Dominick) is there to work with you and 100% hands-on, I highly recommend and will only be bringing and trusting my vessel to Olsen marine services from here on in. We took our 32' sea ray for the first time to Dominic at Olsen marine and couldn't be more impressed. Dominic is a straight forward, honest guy who also served our country in the marine corps. He quoted us a price on cleaning and painting the bottom of our boat and it was done on budget and on time. Here's where they went above and beyond in service and integrity....when I drove back to my slip and was flushing my engines I noticed one of the plastic drain plugs was busted off and water was flowing out. It happened when they were replacing one of the through hull water inlets and must have accidentally bumped it and it snapped off with no way of them knowing in such a tight space. I called Dominic and he identified the issue and took FULL ACCOUNTABILITY and said if we broke it then we will fix it and make it right. This gets even better, he had to order the part and when they came all the way over to fix it they couldn't get the threads that were left in the fitting out and so they went all the way back to their shop and machined a special custom tap to remove the melted plastic that remained in the metal threads without damaging the threads. Then, Dominic or one of his mechanics came back a second time OVER THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND and got the remaining piece out and replaced it with a new part. You just don't see this type of customer service these days and I totally appreciated not being questioned about it and the way they dealt with it. Dominic said what he was going to do and did it, very professional. It's great to see a business like that where you feel like you can trust someone with a handshake. Thank you Dominic for your and your team's efforts. Tom and Diane.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I couldn t be happier for choosing Olsen Marine to paint the boat bottom and work on the underwater gear of my 43 Viking. The owner Dominick is a straight up guy and easy to work with.Their reasonable prices, the friendly environment and the work done right the first time by a knowledgeable crew, are not always easy to find in boat yards today. Job well done guys!

We brought our Sabre sailboat down from Chicago to Olsen Marine. Our boat is 35 years old and it needed lots of work, due to the harsh winters and water damage to the interior sole. Dominick and his Olsen Marine team of professionals did amazing work preparing her for SW Florida sailing. Dominick was terrific to work with. He always provided reasonable quotes for the needed work, and he usually beat the estimate. The quality of work is extraordinary and the professionalism of Dominick and his team was outstanding. Anyone needing work on their boat should definitely try Olsen Marine.

Dominick went over and above to meet my requests and stay within my budget. Absolutely 100% happy with the results.Took my second boat to Olsen's for bottom job and general maintenance. Once again, top-notch service and superior work quality. There's no better place in Southwest Florida for boat work!!!!

Great experience with quality repair vendor! We made an appointment to have some work done that involved hauling our boat. They were ready for us at the appointed time, the work was done in the time specified and the fees for haul out and labor were very reasonable. A professional crew all around. Good boat yards can be hard to find and we recommend Olsen Marine Services!

I got the bottom of my sailboat painted here a year ago. The paint job is still in great shape. I neglected the bottom for a few months until I finally hired a diver to clean it. With pictures that the diver provided, I saw that my prop shaft was completely coated with barnacles but the hull was still clear. They did great work and were very professional. They also were very accommodating to my work schedule. Thanks y allIronically... I just had a chunk of paint break off the rudder 6 days after writing this review.

Very Satisfied. Excellent service at this 40+ year old marine business. These guys are super accommodating and helped me out with an auto pilot install on my Grand Banks that no one else wanted to tackle since it wasn t cookie cutter. They have enough tools in their machine shop to build a tank. Fabrication of a custom mount for my new hydraulic ram was no problem for the guys. They let me do a bit of the install myself to save a few bucks and let me stay at the yard on the boat for no charge. While I was there, I couldn t get my 9.9 Mercury outboard running. They yanked it right off and fixed it up for me and even later delivered it to a marina I was staying at.Maybe the best part for any budget minded cruiser was the fair price they charged. I always hate having folks start work on the boat without an agreed to dollar figure, but they ended up charging me a very fair amount.

I hired Dominic and his crew 3 weeks ago to reattach the swim platform and do a complete bottom paint and zinc replacement. When I went to inspect the job today, my main comment was, "I wish I would have found you guys 4 years ago!"The work showed a high level of craftsmanship, was done in a timely manner and his charges were reasonable.

We have had a boat for a long time and had a lot of different experiences with Boat Yards and mechanics. Handsdown, without a question Olsen's Marine in Fort Myers is the most thoughtful, professional, organized Boat Yard that do high quality work in a timely manner. We are so very grateful we found Dominic and his team.

Brought my boat in for bottom painting and restriping and some minor repairs. We weren't completely happy with the tape boot stripe so they removed it and painted the stripe on which looked great. We were happy that they wanted a happy customer which we are. The work was completed and the invoice was as estimated. The boat was returned to us clean and looking great!

Thanks again for the great service that was performed on My 2005 390 SeaRay. I dropped it off on a Monday and all the work was completed by Friday. The bottom prep and paint looked great along with the Cutlass Bearing Replacement and Prop Service. The needed Paint work to repair some scratches in the AllCraft paint was perfect. Will definitely use Olsen Marine in the future for any needed repair. Thanks againJohn Wohn

I am a licensed Captain with decades of experience on the water. I hired Olsen Marine based on good reviews here on Active Captain. My experience with Olsen Marine was extremely dissatisfactory. I have photographs and details and anyone may contact me through this website regarding Olsen. They required a cash equivalent payment before we could take our 35 foot sailboat so we have no recourse but to sue for damage to our boat and failure to repair the wind instrument. We paid them almost $9,000 for work done on instrumentation, bottom paint, cleaning the heat exchanger on the engine, and repairing a hatch leak. When I arrived to pick up the boat, and started the engine, it OVERHEATED in less than 10 minutes. Dominick at first tried to blame us for a burst hose. Any competent mechanic would inspect and replace worn hoses. Turned out not to be a burst hose, but their failure to properly tighten the hose clamp! This failure would have been detected if they had tested and inspected their work. The leak was obvious, fast, and dumped pink coolant in the engine sump. They are sloppy and don't check their work. They claimed to have repaired our wind instrument. They removed the mast top unit and DISCARDED it!! They replaced the mast top unit and charged us $519 for the part plus labor charges. The "repair" did not fix the problem, and we have no way to determine whether the mast top unit they removed was even faulty - the boat is only 8 years old. We suspected the problem was the wiring from the mast top to the helm. We still have the problem! The wind instrument does not function properly. They said they calibrated the wind instrument, which is impossible, since it malfunctioned as soon as I left their dock.We left a typed list of items we wanted Olsen to complete, including buff and wax the hull. They did not buff the hull. And, the boat was filthy when we picked it up! It was covered with gray soot or overspray that took us 8 hours to clean using a power washer and several cleaning agents. While cleaning the side windows, I noticed a sizeable chunk and several impact cracks that I do not believe were present on the window when I brought the boat to Olsen. Our boat is meticulously maintained. However, I did not photograph the boat so I cannot prove the damage happened in Olsen's yard. They repaired a leaky forward hatch and left splotches of epoxy or wax all over the decking. I had to scrape up this substance with a putty knife! They left black handprints and footprints all over the decking, lifelines and companionway handholds. They don't clean up after themselves. They don't inspect their work. We have no confidence in their abillity to correct the problem with the wind instrument and will have to get it fixed by someone else. The owner, Dominick Olsen, will respond to this review by stating that I was rude and abusive to him and his staff. Dominick Olsen never took responsibility for the sloppy work on the heat exchanger, and refuses to acknowledge the issues with the wind instrument, despite our description and photographs sent to him of the wind vane and wind instrument the day we picked up the boat. Dominick refused to speak with me and repeatedly asked to speak to my husband, who was working. Dominick Olsen apparently equates an intelligent and assertive woman who challenges his obvious incompetence and dishonesty as abusive. All parts removed and replaced by a mechanic should be retained for the customer for precisely the situation we have encountered.A contractor who insists on cash equivalent payment raises a red flag, as the customer has no means of redress, such as the customer would have if using a credit card or check. Olsen has his cash, takes no responsibility for his errors and is insulting and demeaning to women to boot! Avoid this place like the plague! I will update after the issues are resolved - with a court order if that's what it takes.I am available to discuss Olsen Marine Service with anyone interested or harmed by them.

Went to Olson Marine twice, one time to have my boats hull painted and some fiberglass work done. No problem, so I went back to have some engine maintenance done and one of the gas gages replaced. Boat was promised to be ready in max, two weeks....it took four. When I picked up the boat, the gage that was replaced was the wrong one and did not match the other gas gage. Also, they damaged the paint on the transom of the boat. When I showed it to the owner, he looked at me as if I was a criminal and said it must have been like that when I brought it into his yard. I am very particular about how my boat looks and would never drive it around with 12"x10" scraped paint damage to my boat. The owner, Dominic, was a former police officer, so he says, and I think that he assumes all his customers are criminals! GO SOMEWARE ELSE FOR SERVICE!!! By the way it cost me over $400.00 to repair the damage that was incurred at Olson Marine!

Short version: reasonable priced, honest and quick. Long version: We had a sailboat delivered here from up north. It sat for 3 years on land so it needed a lot of small things done when it got down here (since it was delivered by truck, rigging - used their guys, complete check on the engine..ect). Had all the fluids changed, filters changed, and they were willing to help us on anything we didn t want to, or couldn t do ourselves. We actually keep our boat in a slip behind their office as well. Nice to know someone s always around. They were very helpful in knowing what needed to be checked or worked on. Our marina up north also did an AWFUL bottom paint job before it moved down. They recently re-painted it and it looks fantastic. Other marinas in the area will cost more and may not let you do small projects yourself.
