This place left me Awe struck. Its a step back in time. Lost craftsmanship wood working masterpiece. To maintain and keep this in the shape its in in a hurricane prone area for how old it is could only be done with dedication and love. Team work and good owners make stuff like that possible. the tediousness of restoring old wood buildings in Florida is a labor of love. I cannot describe how kool this place is if you are a waterman you'll love it. WOW. Great rum punch!

Beautiful hotel that righteously is a historic landmark.Restaurant, as described here multiple times, is a disgrace. Dirty tables and menus, blatantly untrained staff, and greasy, unpleasant meals. Obviously, high price and on top cash only. Restaurant alone 0/5 stars. Management urgently needs to intervene to not destroy reputation further.

This is strictly a restaurant review. We did not stay at the hotel.Food was excellent, nothing fancy. Best fresh grouper I had during this trip to Florida. Frog legs were meaty and the oysters were very tasty. I liked the breading they used for the fried oysters and frog legs. It was not the corn meal that I've had before, more like tempura. Good cole slaw, too. There is a lot of history associated with this Club. Definitely worth a stop.

Came here for late lunch/early dinner. 3 ppl in our party. Hit it at an off time on a chilly day, it was very quiet but no complaints, this place is SO COOL. As soon as you walk in, the history of the place is visible from the creaky wood floors to the giant fireplace, mounted animals, antique finishings.... honestly the ambiance alone is enough to return. There were only a couple tables here, service was not quick but very pleasant and the drinks were cold, food was hot and fresh. Frog legs and gator bites for our table, all were good with homemade dipping sauce to boot. Come here to unwind and take everything in. There were two dining rooms as well as veranda seating along the water. I feel like this is a gem and I can't wait to return. Cash only FYI.Food & drinks: Frog leg basket was fresh and hot, fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. 2 dipping sauces and coleslaw were good too. Make sure to bring cash.Noteworthy details: Lots of history here. Don't come in a rush, its an experience of its own being here. Bring cash, no cards accepted.

It was our first time to the area and we showed at night with our 4 kids. There was no one working front desk. The hotel was completely closed with no one around. My kids, being from a much more populated area of Florida and had seen maybe too many scary movies were freaked out. I couldn t get our door locked properly at first and the kids wanted to leave. I texted Taylor (the lady I made our arrangements with) and she contacted the owner and he was there within minutes. He was very nice, showed me to the lock the door , and out the kids at ease. The room was very nice. It looked freshly painted, had a wonderful screened in patio, and was right next to the boat ramp. There s plenty of parking for your truck and trailers if coming with boats. Great launch spot. We were only in town for not even 24 hours but we walked around the property and it s beautiful. It s old of course being a historic building but it s being worked on and it has so much character. You have to understand the nature of the area. It seems to be a quiet sleepy town so don t expect big city things. We will be back when we have more time.

Avoid. Terrible service, orders were incorrect, expensive - two $30 and two $40 fish dinners were served room temperature by a very old, scattered woman who was missing teeth. She did not serve dressing with salads, forgetting one dinner salad altogether. The glass balsamic vinegar and oil cruets were filthy, and the one for the balsamic dribbled all over the diner's hand when used. The entree portion size for a $30 plate was very small. Rolls that were to come with all dinners never arrived. The bill was incorrect, and our server was never seen again.

Should be called the rotten gun club. The one amenity that was described accurately was the pool. Other then that, it was a total disappointment. There is a reason they ask for cash, and no credit cards are accepted. Once they have the funds for multiple nights, they have the money in hand and will not issue refunds. The other bad reviews here are completely accurate and I am trying to figure out where the good reviewers stayed the night.Sparsely furnished, poorly appointed, poorly organized, poor customer service, NO assistance after hours.. or before. No wifi in rooms. For a lodge that has been in business for this long and at this price point, one would expect some level of customer experience. There is none to be had at the Rod and Gun Club. The reviewer that called it the Bait and Switch Club nailed it.The rate should be reduced to <$100/ night. No amenities available, no service.Rooms: Old and stale with no WiFi access

What a cool spot to grab lunch! We left our Everglades boat ride and headed here for lunch. First, the rod and gun club is amazing to look at all the stuff inside and the detail! We had a large party but we re sat quickly. Our waitress, I wish I could remember her name, was the best, great personality! We of course tried gator bites, calamari and all the sea food options. Everything was delicious! So worth the stop!

We were in the area and had read about the history of this place and decided to check it out. We love Florida history and the Rod and Gun Club was quite an interesting visit. What made it different was it wasn't museum-like. Rather, it is in business as a hotel with a restaurant. We went in and travelled back in time 50 to 100 years. The plaque above the back door read Circa 1864. There was a vintage barroom finished in mahogany that was my favorite. The bar was closed and may be just for viewing, but we could sit at that bar like people did a century ago. Much of the inside was dimly lit, which was realistic, although there were electric lights here and there. The hotel front desk was from yesteryear with an old fashioned cash register. The local taxidermist must have been busy back in the day with all the critters that decorated the walls. We wanted to purchase something here, and stay longer, so we had beers on the open air patio. As far as we knew, there was no air conditioning, but this day in March was most comfortable. We felt a nice breeze on the patio as we enjoyed the view of the Barron River. Pelicans were the main attraction as they were feeding along the river. We paid for our drinks with cash, like in the old days, which was the only option to settle up. We enjoyed the time warp exploring the lobby, parlor, barroom and patio at the Rod and Gun Club before returning to 2023 as we walked back out to our car parked outside. I don't know many places where we could experience what we did here.Food & drinks: Limited menu, with bottled beer available. We had a very polite, efficient waiter.

We stumbled upon this place after reading about it in the local museum. What a treasure! This place bleeds history. It has the old world charm that won t find any place like it in Florida. We had lunch on a wonderful spacious patio overlooking the river. They served generous portions of food that were tastefully displayed and a treat to the palette. Plan a trip here and make the Everglades Rod and Gun Club your destination. You won t be disappointed.

Go for the scenery, leave for the food. ;-) Seriously, it s such a cool setting, it s a shame they don t have someone running the kitchen who is a pro. The menus look totally amateur. The appetizers came frozen from Sysco. We haven t dared try the entrees, given how mediocre the appetizers are. No real cocktail menu (despite being the most pleasant spot I ve been in a long time to sit and have a cocktail). For the prices they charge, you would think they could be a little more ambitious. Very disappointing. But we ll probably still bring friends there just to see the building. I just wish I could get a drink in that cool little bar off to the right on the way in.

Servers are super nice. Very nice open screened in patio with fans and a view of the river. Food came out hot and quick. Calamari was perfect. Fries had a breading that was crispy and yummy. The Key Lime Pie was well worth the $6. Meals are $10-$20. Very clean and the interior is full of history and interesting displays.

The Rod and Gun Club in Everglade City is a unique and historic hotel. It is not the Ritz Carlton, but an image of bygone days in old Florida. It is a simple place that I have come to love and appreciate. The Rod and Gun Club is a comfortable location for a fishing get away. My understanding is the Rod and Gun Club does not use a computer system to schedule their bookings, and the entire facility is cash only. Also, the kitchen may be staffed by the front desk clerks and other hard workers. Everyone pitches in to make your stay enjoyable. If you are like me, the simple way of life may be appealing from time to time, and the Rod and Gun Club offers that. Taylor provides excellent customer service and great advice on all things Everglades City. You may find her at the front desk for check-in, in the kitchen or arranging furniture in the lobby. She has gone above and beyond to help. The rooms are reasonably priced and the boat ramp at the Rod and Gun Club is one of the best ways to get out to the 10,000 islands.Earlier I said the Rod and Gun Club is unique. If you go, enjoy the pictures of people who have stayed at the Rod and Gun, such as FDR and Earnest Hemingway! My understanding is the lobby is not air conditioned, the atmosphere early 1900 s, so again it, is not the Ritz Carlton. If you value character instead of glitz, The Rod and Club is a trip into the past where I have met some friends for life.

We've been patrons of the Rod & Gun Club since 1985 when we purchased our home here. Our visit yesterday will be our last. My wife and I stopped for drinks after a bike ride. Our server was very good, the drinks however were not. My top shelf dirty martini came with pickle juice in it instead of olive juice. I sent it back and received a new one. My second drink, Tito's and tonic, had no liquor in it at all. I said nothing about it, thinking maybe we had a newbie, they were having a bad day and they just under poured. My wife ordered Crown and diet. Having been bar owners, we know the difference between Crown Royal and rot gut cheap stuff. It wasn't Crown Royal - she politely sent it back. Our waitress returned and said the "bartender refused to make her another drink" but she would take it off our bill. We found out the bartender was Patty Bowen, one of the owners. She should really consider a different line of work because customer service is a swing and a miss for her. After all of that our bill was $45 for three drinks, before tip?! Spend your money elsewhere.
