Expect To Come Back (Not In A Good Way)I asked a local Jeep group who was a good mechanic in the area and numerous people told me about Firstgear. I gave them a call to get both our differentials serviced & both leaking pinion seals replaced. Everyone was friendly, the price was good, the work performed looked great, & they had it done in half a day.. which was all fine and dandy. Unfortunately however the seals started leaking after a little over 3 months. When I gave them a call they said that was normal wear and tear for off roading, so I just decided to go elsewhere. Especially when I knew I hadn't been off road after the work other than some dirt / gravel national forest roads. I had to have the work redone at another shop and those seals were still good when I regeared almost a year later. Not only did I have problems, but unfortunately before our seals went out I recommended them to two of my buddies. Both of which had to go back several times to get things corrected after they did the work. One was a whole transmission rebuild.. not like it was a cheap bill. I would NEVER recommend this shop. I decided to come edit my original review after those experiences and it pains me to do so as they were friendly and a small shop, hence why I left 2 stars still.

This shop is awesome! Mrs. Lisa is a sweetheart and they have always been honest with me. In fact, my first time visiting here I came in from another shop who swore my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission was done for. I basically came in telling them what I was told and expecting the worst. Transmission ended up being just fine but appreciate their honesty very much. Excellent shop and even better people.

These are good people. They know what they're doing. The Owners are great and it's a family business. The guys in the shop are top notch mechanics. I had my Jeep re-geared with a full master-rebuild kit from Yukon Gear and the shop, threw in the Yukon, Nodular Iron Differential covers; for the SAME price, another shop wanted, without them. After the 500 mile break-in of the new gears, I changed the gear oil and there was only the normal amount of metal in the oil, that is always associated with new gears. With a fresh batch of oil, the gears are still nice and quiet after another 1,000 miles! It's nice to spend your money, with people who know what they're doing!!! I asked them to look things over with the Jeep and give me an estimate of what they felt were important issues to address, in the future. They did, and the estimate is very reasonable!Larry, (owner) showed me around the shop and walked me through their normal, transmission rebuild procedure and I think, it's as good, if not better, than anyone else in the business.I'm an industrial mechanic with 35 years of experience, and I can tell when people are guessing and when they are knowledgeable about their trade. These are good people. They know their business. Larry, his wife Dawn and daughter Melissa, were a pleasure to meet and do business with! I'm very happy with my experience!

Fair pricing and a quick turnaround for my 98 wrangler. Jeeps are welcome here, and there seems to be a mustang enthusiast there as well. Off road accessories are available inside. Old school just like I like it.

I highly recommend this shop for transmission service. They did a great job replacing the clutch in my 2011 JKU back in June, and this morning i had a problem with my clutch slave cylinder leaking (not related to the clutch replacement, it was factory original with 208,000 miles). They got me in and got it done. Fair pricing and prompt, honest service. Can't ask for more!

I delivered my vehicle, on a tow truck, without a scheduled appointment, and yet, 3 hours later they called me with a list of repairs, a timeline, and a n estimate of cost. After giving the "OK" to do the repairs, they were completed. They called me to let me know when ordered parts would arrive and let me know how the shipping schedule would change the completion date. Which is to say, I was fully informed and "kept in the loop." This quality goes a long way in my book. After receiving my vehicle back, and immediately flogging it on the Interstate, it ran like a Swiss watch. Their pricing is honest and fair. The vehicle they worked on was a highly modified Jeep. When I picked it up, I dropped of a '67 Jeep that also needs some love without hesitation. I highly recommend this business.Services: Steering & suspension repair, Brakes, Oil change

Overall good experience. They were able to diagnose and repair issues with my transmission in a timely manner. They were honest and the repairs were necessary, but the mark-up costs appear to be significantly higher than usual. However, they did inform me of the price prior to completing the job. Thus, I was afforded the opportunity to conduct due diligence and chose not to. I would definitely return in the future and highly recommend their expertise.

I took Toyota FJ Cruiser with 167K miles to 1st Gear Transmission to get the rear differential rebuilt, axle bearings replaced and front CV axles replaced. They did a phenomenal job. It is whisper quiet now, they turned it around very quickly and I couldn't be happier. In just one experience, they've gained my trust and repeat business. They are family owned, very personable, honest and experts in this work. I highly recommend this auto shop.

I brought my Honda CRV to the shop as a first time customer. I was greeted by the owners of the shop who were friendly and listened to me regarding my vehicle complaint. I was not sure if it was a tire or a transmission issue. The owner took my vehicle for a ride and diagnosed my problem. They were very honest and were reasonable regarding my fee. I highly recommend First Gear for your automotive needs if you want a business owner with integrity and who is a professional at their trade.

We received quotes from multiple transmission shops in the area and First Gear's quote was significantly lower than all of the others.Because of our unique make and model, it took two weeks for them to ship in all of the necessary parts to complete the repair. After we picked up our vehicle the first time, there was still an issue. The owners of First gear towed our vehicle back to their shop and fixed it, true to their warranty, free of cost. Our transmission now works flawlessly and we couldn't be more happy with the service we received.Thank you Pete and Dawn!

I had my transmission rebuilt here, in my Isuzu Box Truck, 16 months ago. The reverse recently went out and I have been without my truck, which is my work truck, for going on 2 weeks. I do understand that certain circumstances can lead to prolonged work times; however, it has affected my ability to work. I was told today that there may be "another issue/electrical issue" and that they could possibly have my work truck for another week. Again, I understand the time. After speaking to a Lisa (I believe) today, she did help me to feel at ease and confident in the outcome. This business has nothing but nice people and I do trust them. I would recommend First Gear Transmissions to anybody looking for a repair or mechanic.- Chris Bush

First rate shop. Rebuilt my TJ transmission and both rear axle shafts. Had it done in only a couple days. Super nice people, great rates, and quick turn around time, great communication... I have found my new mechanic shop. I recommend them to everyone.

Went to First Gear transmissions on recommendation of a Facebook group and have been pleasantly pleased. I had my transmission rebuilt for 2002 Jeep Wrangler X which they are specialists for and it worked great, had a six month warranty. The reverse later went out for an unknown reason and Ibrought it back. I paid nothing for the repairs under warranty and it was done in less than 24 hours with the part that failed being upgraded! Would definitely recommend.

They were so helpful. I originally towed my Jeep to the dealership which I heard horror stories about, but due to the time my transmission gave out, I had no choice. The owner reached out to me and told me to bring it by. I got my Jeep towed to their shop and I just felt taken care of. They knew what they were doing and got my whole transmission rebuilt in no time. Highly recommend this shop!

I had my clutch replaced and a few other things associated with it. Petey and his staff went above and beyond to make sure i was up and going along with being taken care of! Knowing I use my truck on a daily basis to carry my tools back and forth to work he got the job done in a timely manner less than 24hrs which included part delivery closing hours and other vehicles in the shop. I highly recommend you take your vehicle to see these guys for quality work and affordable prices!!!

I couldn't be happier with the level of service that I received from the staff at Firstgear in Brandon, FL.I needed to upgrade my ring and pinions in my front and rear differentials as a result of the stock R&P ratios being worn down as a result of the strain from larger tires, off-roading, etc.My front drive shaft needed to be replaced as well from the angle of the lift kit putting undue pressure on the u-joints. Firstgear had an aftermarket shaft in stock and was able to replace it.The staff made you feel like family, prices for parts and labor were beyond fair, and the job was completed in a timely manner. I cannot recommend this shop enough for your Jeep specialty jobs, or any automotive needs in general.Service: Steering & suspension repair

Pete and his crew are all awesome ! I ve been here 3 times for all my Jeep repairs and I would not trust any other mechanic shop to touch my vehicle! Fast and friendly service and very knowledgeable at what they do. This place is one of a kind.

I brought my jeep here to be regeared and they did a fantastic job. They take the time to explain and go over anything and do honest work. I felt right at home at the shop. Everyone is so nice and they want to make sure that after they hand you your keys back you can drive away with confidence. I brought my jeep back in for a tune up before heading to Arizona and they did a thorough look over and replaced a part I didn t even know was leaking until they pointed it out to me. I feel much more comfortable about driving across the country now. I am so glad I stopped in to see them one more time! Wish I could teleport my jeep to Firstgear Transmissions the next time I need work done!

I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND Pete and Dawn at Firstgear transmission! I brought my 2004 Jeep Rubicon to Firstgear and had them replace a flexplate, rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and replace a old glass pack exhaust with a new one. I let my Jeep sit for 2 years after my daughter was born and wanted Pete to go over my jeep and make sure everything was working properly.I got my Jeep back running and ready to go to the trails! I am very happy with the quality work performed by Pete and his crew. Pete was top notch... professional, friendly, knowledgeable and I really enjoyed talking with him about jeeps! Dawn runs the office like a business should be run, she was courteous, professional and was quick with communication! I recieved high quality work at an affordable price that I am more than satisfied with. Pete, Dawn and the rest of the Firstgear crew certainly earned my business and I will be using them as my go to shop for everything on my Jeeps and other vehicles!

Took my jeep in for transmission rebuild, while it was there I asked to have my ac fixed, after charging me over $1,300 to fix my ac it was still not fixed, I brought it back to them to get the ac working for the money I spent, I was then told I needed to replace my entire front Y pipe on my jeep because I had a bad catalytic converter causing the ac not to work, that would have been $1,500 for the exhaust, at that point I took my jeep back from them, and fixed the AC myself. I also found broken bolts in my transmission cross member, my AC compressor bolts were not tight to the engine block, my driverside 02 sensor was backed half way out, my winch was never hooked back up when they disconnected my battery, they removed my brand new Mopar electric fan wiring relay and replaced it with a generic autoparts store one for no reason, the transmission shifts and drives fine but it's noisy, since the day I got it back it has made this internal rattling sound from the trans under acceleration. I am so unhappy with the workmanship, the carelessness, the laundry list of things I've had to tighten up, hook up, check over, fix, meanwhile they banked $4,600 dollars from me. I would never recommend them to anyone and I will never bring my vehicles there again. They need to stick to transmissions and not general auto repair.Services: Transmission, A/C installation & repair

I was headed towards another shop with CV axle problems in my Hyundai Accent when I seen this shop. I am glad I stopped by... These guys and gal jumped all over it and told me it could be done in a few hours. All I have to say is I am glad people like this open up shop. The prices were fair, the people are genuine and the service is personable. These are homegrown locals like me so stop by this place and support small businesses!!!!
