Response to their message:You are being cynical and hypocrite with two different responses to BBB and to this thread. Your response to BBB demonstrates you do not have idea about automotive mechanics, your business is just changing oil and selling tires.BEWARE of this shop Kennett Square neighbors!!!<<< This is a copy of the complaint submitted to BBB >>>On Mar 4 I took my car to Paul Campanella s shop in Kennett Square, PA due to overheating and smoke from under the hood. They diagnosed the problem and recommended repairs and other additional maintenance for a total over $5.2k which I approved trusting their knowledge and advice that the problem will be solved. Less than a week later, the car showed again the engine light on the dashboard which they addressed changing a spark plug (I believe). Days later the car didn t start and showed again the engine light. I called the shop and they arranged a tow truck to pick up the car and take it to their shop. They called me with a diagnosis of a starter motor damage which needed replacement. They said this is unrelated to the first issue and I was charged $1.4k for the tow service plus the replacement and labor of the starter motor. However called me again and said that now they saw another problem and a cylinder head gasket needed replacement and quoted $5k for the new finding. All the time saying that these were unrelated events. I couldn t handle this situation anymore so I decided to tow the car away from this shop and take it to the Chrysler dealership where they are trying to repair the total damage created for the initial misdiagnosis by Paul Campanella s.I sent an email to Paul Campanella s with my formal complaint and refund request of the total money I paid to them. I received a call from a regional service manager (Doug) and he said that these events are absolutely not related and that he called the dealership (without my authorization) to find out about my car. I attached the invoices, diagnosis and email.

Brought my car in for some much needed maintenance and was beyond satisfied with the services provided. Customer service was professional and friendly and the work done on my car was top notch. After a free inspection of the vehicle I received a thorough and understandable review of several issues with my car of which I had previously been unaware. Jason helped me to understand the problems (I am not a car guy), walked me through the solutions, and was transparent about pricing. For budget reasons, I elected not to accept all of their suggestions and was not pressured in any way to change my mind. Upon receiving my car after services, it drives like its brand new! I also admired the passion that the staff demonstrated in their work- Jason seemed genuinely excited for me to get my car back and see how much better it ran. All in all this is a reliable and honest business and I will be returning as needed!

I ve never had a better experience in my life! White glove treatment from everyone you talk to. Transparency by receiving a text alert with link to a report where every single detail is listed. Clean and enjoyable atmosphere. None of these things have ever been associated with this type of business, but this is no ordinary business. I will NEVER take my car anywhere else.

Definitely recommend! The staff here made sure my concerns were dealt with right away, and were so helpful and positive. They were straightforward and even offered a ride or to lend a car while mine was worked on. The inspection yielded a detailed report, work was completed quickly and with full transparency. Very grateful I found Paul Campanella s, thank you for your help!

My husband got a flat tire on his way from Greenwood to Nemours in Wilmington for an appointment for our son. He changed to the spare, on a truck that had mud tires, so it was very wobbly riding and he called to say he wouldn't make it home like that. I called Campanella's and spoke to Steve and explained the situation, he said to bring the truck there. My husband got there and they got him in right away and even remembered that I had called! The impression that people leave on you goes a long way with me, so I wanted to write a review letting everyone know about our excellent experience with this shop! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! My son was even able to make it to his appointment on time!

As a newcomer to the Wilmington area, I was unsure where I could find an honest and reliable mechanic for our vehicles. The Google reviews all pointed to Paul Campanella's and I pleasantly surprised by my experience! Jason and the staff at this location were upfront, clear and concise regarding the care of my vehicle. They were able to service my car on the very same day I took it in. In addition to their professionalism, I promptly received a text message which provided me a PDF report on my car with pictures and recommendations. A week later, I got a flat tire and I took it by and Jason had it capped for me for free! I absolutely and highly recommend Paul Campanella's. Great businesses like this one deserve your business!Services: Exhaust, Tires, Auto engine diagnostic

I had a wonderful experience here. Rich helped me schedule an appointment and answered any questions that I had. They were willing to fit me in same day and did an inspection on my car which was free for the first time. I like how when they do an inspection, you get a text sent to your phone saying the car is done and it gives pictures and details about your car. They also called me a few days after my appointment to ask how my experience was.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing top-notch service with Jake at Paul Campanellas Pike Creek, and I can't praise them enough! From our very first conversation, I knew I was in good hands. Here's why I'm giving them a stellar review: One of the standout qualities was their honesty. They didn't try to upsell me on unnecessary services or parts. Instead, they provided a straightforward assessment and an accurate estimate for the work needed. The communication from Jake throughout the entire repair process was exceptional. He kept me updated on the progress of the repairs, and I always felt well-informed about what was happening with my vehicle. He made me feel comfortable and confident that my car was in the right hands. I can confidently say that Campanella's is a gem in the automotive industry. They have earned my trust, and I will be returning for any future car maintenance or repair needs. If you're looking for a car repair company that combines expertise, honesty, and exceptional customer service, I wholeheartedly recommend Jake and the entire team at Paul Campanellas. They are a true standout in the industry. Thank you for your outstanding service!

As usual, the team at Paul Campanella took great care of me and my car when I had punctured a tire. I pulled in, was greeted right away by people who know me (and my cars!) and my problem was fixed immediately. Thank you!

Update everything Rich verbally said he would do. He didn't complete at all...Every time Rich called me saying it was more issues found. He increased the price but never actually did the work. All the extra charges were for nothing... Rich promised a lot of work and overcharged me...The main thing is he didn't change or even attempt to work on the back brakes...which is a major issue considering I have a family...it's a really old car and the parts were rusted...he didn't even do a brake fluid exchange...Brakes should be a priority and Rich didn't even work on them because it would have meant extra work for them. Rich promised a lot verbally and did not do anything he told me he would.... It my own fault. It was my first car and first time at a mechanic shop....i trusted that they would be honest and actually do the work...instead they charged me six K and did half the work.... I had no clue. I just went in trusting them...based off the good reviews and hoping they were honest people.... they finessed and took advantage.... but like I said it's my fault...I didn't ask for them to go over everything before I paid...I didn't fully review the paperwork.... It's a lesson learned...do not trust these people...Rich kept adding on more work promising it would run like new and wouldn't need any more work after he was finish with it...I got played and finessed but it was a lesson learned Definitely would not recommend this place at all. I think most of these reviews are false....and paid for...Rich said the company does not give proof of work. You just know its fixed...I have a very old car that set for years...rich said he would be fixing it all replacing all parts with brand new items...he said he was doing all urgent and nonurgent task and the car would run like new after they were done... they took before pictures but not after wouldn't show me what they replaced nothing.... The brakes were my main concern. And he couldn't even put in the time to work on the brakes...they couldn't stick with one price. Increased the price four times... I wanted to so badly love this place and just very disappointed....be careful with them...especially if you are of color or female

I recently visited Paul Campanella Auto & Tire, and I must say, I had a positive experience. The service provided was efficient and well-executed. They addressed the issues with my MINI Countryman's air conditioning, replaced the battery, and also took care of an oil change - all at a reasonable price. The Wilmington location was clean and pleasant, which made waiting more comfortable. The service representatives were courteous and informative, and I appreciated their assistance.Overall, I was satisfied with the service and pricing at Paul Campanella Auto & Tire. It's a reliable option for car maintenance, and I will go back in the future.Services: Auto A/C recharge, Battery, Oil change

I love my car, and was scared by an estimate from another shop. Mike helped me out, they sent me a great inspection report, and got my buddy back to me with substantial savings. Not saying I got a cheap fix at all, they are very professional and did a great job, even picked my car up from my job. I'm very confident in them. Earned my business the right way.

Had another fantastic experience with the team. Mike and Steve were the best. My car was a 2006 and had to take it to inspection and it didn t pass. Took it back to my guys and after a little investigation the team at Paul Campanella s found out I had a crack in my engine block and it was leaking fluids. Before coming here I took my car to 3 other places and none of them found it. They were just doing other work and charging me.After finding this out I had to get a new car and fast. Unfortunately I had to drive all the way to Milford to find available stock. The point is the guys were worried about my safety a had my car towed to the dealership in Milford so I could use it as a trade in. They truly went above and beyond. They have my business for life after this experience.Services: Transmission, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair, Vehicle Inspection, Vehicle safety inspection

Excellent service! I especially liked the printed report of the proposed work, complete with photos of the problems. All was carefully explained and prioritized for what had to done vs what I could wait to do. A small repair was missed, but a single call had it rectified with no problem. Will definitely be a repeat customer!Services: Air & cabin filter replacement, Engine repair, Brake service & repair, Oil changeServices: Air & cabin filter replacement, Engine repair, Brake service & repair, Oil change

When I moved to the area many years ago, I looked for a local service center I could trust. One of the first places I found was Paul's. I stopped by to check the place out. Paul was there and I spoke with him about how my father always encouraged me to use local businesses. Paul seemed like a stand up guy with a clean shop. Soon after, my father passed and I inherited an old BMW. I took it to the shop in Wilmington near the new Incyte location. It had a bit of a hop on the highway. I can't recall who it was that helped me, but they worked with me to get the tires balanced and check it out. I was pretty impressed, to be honest. Then, my wife's 2000 Dodge Neon needed sway bar end links installed. I took it to the same shop. The employees there in the office were very friendly. I believe the young lady that worked there even offered to give me a ride home in her truck. It was extremely kind of her. The shop used MOOG sway bar end links on the front and joked that they'll outlast the car. I certainly thought so, especially since we rarely used the car. Unfortunately, one of them failed, so I took it back for warranty work.I vividly remember Paul himself calling me at work. I put him on speakerphone so My coworker could hear, as he was one of the people that had said they were ok with Paul's shop and encouraged me to go there. Paul was denying covering the sway bar end links on the car, insinuating that I did something to the odometer of the Dodge Neon because his records stated that the mileage on the car now is less than what his records stated. I said that was ridiculous, and that one of his employees must have made a mistake. It happens, right? Not to Paul. He continued to adamantly deny covering the end links and the labor to install new ones, after looking over my account and saying that I haven't been a customer there for long. In effect, he was saying that I wasn't a good enough of a customer to follow his own policy for warranty work. I told him I was extremely shocked he wouldn't honor his own policy and for insinuating I went through the trouble of rolling back the odometer (a crime!) just so I could get warranty coverage on a $40 pair of end links and and hour of shop labor. Seriously, he was insulting me, accusing me of commiting a crime, and denying his own warranty policy over like $100. My coworker was absolutely shocked and viewed to never go there again. I ended up going to pep boys, getting end links for $20, and putting them on myself in 15 minutes. Seriously, Paul was that unprofessional and a complete jerk to me over a small charge out of his pocket, instead of doing the right thing.Well Paul, I would have been a good customer. I had inherited several cars and had another car that I baby that I was going to take to your shop. But because of your pettiness, insult, and unprofessionalism, you lost a good customer. You lost my coworker too. And now everyone I meet, I tell them to stay away because you, personally, cannot be trusted and are rude. I almost feel bad because your employees in the office were extremely kind. I still can't believe you said I rolled back the odometer on a cheap Dodge Neon just to get warranty coverage on something as meager as sway bar end links. Not only that, but denying a claim because I don't yet have much of a history with your business? Now, even though I haven't been there in years, you've started sending spam text message advertising. Can I have your personal phone number so I can send you annoying texts as well? Fair is fair, right?Service: Tire rotations

My name is Mike and I used Campanella's for the first time this past December. They were excellent! I walked in and met with your representative. He was very kind and understanding. I set up an appointment for my car for the following week. When I arrived, I was offered to be dropped off with their shuttle service and I used this service. Very nice driver! The service on my car (new tires and balance) was done in a timely manner, and I felt that everyone there went out of their way to make sure that I was happy with their service. I will be going back for service on my Lexus when it needs service. THANK YOU!Service: Tires

After taking my car to Paul Campanella's due to a flat tire they performed a full inspection of my vehicle. Jason personally went through the whole inspection with me and put everything into one of three categories. He informed me of what work was necessary, the things I could perform on my own, and things that were manufacture recommendations but not necessary. I was so grateful for his complete honesty. It was so refreshing that he didn't try to upsell me or get me to agree to work that was not needed. It was so humanizing for a mechanic to tell me the things I can easily do at home for a fraction of the price they would charge. I recommend this place to everyone!Service: Auto tire replacement

Summary: Take your business elsewhere. An absolute scam (up charging and suggesting unnecessary repairs, looking to take advantage of clients for profit - in my case probably female ones). Tried to charge me $3000 for an $800 repair.I (mid 20s woman) recently moved to the area and was looking for a new repair shop for an oil change. I was impressed at number of good reviews and decided on Paul Campanella's - what a mistake. They operate under a guise of personable customer service and a fancy inspection system (with photos), but then will charge 2 times the actual cost of the repair. At my standard oil change it was recommended that I get the front struts and probably also the back struts on my car replaced - I was pushed repeatedly to authorize this repair. They quoted $1500 for just the front and $3000 for both - for reference a front/rear strut replacement should cost between $600 -$1000 including parts and labor depending on the vehicle (according to a quick google). I quickly called my old shop that is now 45+ minutes away and got a quote of $800 for the front or $1300 for both. For transparency, these shops are in different cost of living areas so I expected some difference in price - but 2x the cost is an absolute rip off. The other repair shop also reinspected the vehicle and determined that the rear strut replacement was also unnecessary given their condition. I'll be making the longer driver to my old place for honest and reliable service from now on. I'd also guess the abundance of good reviews come from people who are impressed by the personable interactions and haven't evaluated the exorbitant cost of their repairs. Do yourself a service and get a second quote - or just skip this place all together.Services: Auto maintenance, Oil change
