Owner Rich Pepe's sterling reputation is well-deserved. We have been bringing our cars to him for years and he has never let us down. His prices are very reasonable, and Rich is really good at explaining the car's issues and assessing the urgency of repair. A+++

Coming from living w/ my mechanic in TX while there, finding Tripps was an AMAZING blessing. And I don t say that lightly at all!Good, genuine, honest place.. & people. This is a small family owned business. This is not a shop where you can expect to walk in and have you car serviced and returned to you same day. However, Rich and Anthony are kind and honest and super professional and most importantly AFFORDABLE. My recommendation would be to schedule your appointments in advance and make alternate transportation plans. It's worth it!

This place is seriously the best. As someone with not a lot of (good) experience with shops, rich is fantastic. I know that I won t get screwed over, he s honest and tells you straight up what needs to get done and what could wait if you re short on funds (like most of us.) and it s affordable! I got a quote elsewhere for hundreds of $ more than what Tripps charged me. I always recommend them to whoever needs work done.

Rich is the best. He is very patient and always takes time to explain what issues my car is having. Instead of trying to make money off of anything(especially as a woman), he always gives an honest opinion and leaves it up to me to make the final decision. He even once took my car for a drive(with me) at 7:30 AM and explained what was happening as he was driving. I appreciated that he fit me in before work when he didn't have to! He is always flexible. I will not go anywhere else!

I DO NOT recommend! Dan was very pleasant. Rich on the other hand was very rude. He told me he would assess my car and call me back, hours went by and I had to call him. A part was needed for my car which he couldn't find ( I had to call around on my own to find the part which at first I was responsible to pick up). Every interaction with Rich he came across very rude as if I was bothering him because I had questions. I was 2 seconds away from going back to get my car and bring it some where else. He is NOT the only mechanic in the New Haven area. I understand he could have been busy but customer service is just that customer service. I've used him countless times in the past when I lived here in Connecticut so that is why I went back to him. When people are spending their hard earned money at your establishment it is a good idea to at least PRETEND you want their business. I suggest you go somewhere else and get the same work done with a mechanic who will at least value your business. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! **Service was rendered December 2017**

Friendly, reliable, and excellent service. Thorough and honest, helpful and informative; Richie is always there to fully address any concerns and will give you the straight, honest truth about your vehicle along with helpful advice. He gives you all the options and will truly work with you to get your ride up and running. He really cares and it really shows. Would recommend Tripp's over any mechanic/shop I've ever been to or met elsewhere; great work and a truly wonderful individual. Thanks Rich!

Rich is the MAN! We rented a budget truck from Tripp s when Uhaul screwed us over. Rich was so helpful and patient with us during our 2 hour scramble to try to leave for our move to Miami. These guys know what they re doing, and they re good people, too! Thanks again, Rich!

Rich was very patient and professional, he took his time to explain in detail what issues he found with my car's cylinders and explained in terms I understood unlike most other places that rush through explanations with extremely technical terms I don't really understand as I'm not car-savvy. Trustworthy mechanics. I ve always worked on my own vehicles but now I m too busy to do so. I ve gone to Tripp s half a dozen times or more since moving to New Haven. These guys are genuine and will help get you the best deal they can. Wish there were more shops like this still around!

Yet to have actual service but got good phone advice from Rich re our 1992 Lexus SC400 power steering issue. First, he was forthright about not handling transmissions (on Lexus, at least.) Second, rather than the $2100+ "replace pump, hoses, everything" approach of the local dealer (A-1 Toyota) he indicated they'd have to look for the simplest (i.e. cheapest) fix FIRST, e.g., gaskets & O-rings THEN hoses & fittings THEN pump.Really genuine professional mechanics.

Tripp's has been taking care of my family's cars for over a decade and thanks to them just two of our cars have over 550,000 miles on them, both still running strong. If you want an honest mechanic in Connecticut, these guys are the place to go. Highest recommendation!

1st when I called for an estimate was told they would get back to me in 15 minutes.... they never did and I had to call the next day2nd my Tuesday appointment was bumped as they were busy finishing up repairs from the previous day... ok understandable3rd they got my car on the lift and said they couldn't complete the job in a day which they thought they could AND couldn't start the repair because they were too busy the following day to finish it.So in conclusion... no follow up. I was bumped twice when I had an appointment for other peoples repair. I understand that things happen but I felt like I was was always the one being pushed back and when I tried to make concessions they did not reciprocate.I will be finding another mechanic. I don't need to be a priority but do need my appointments honored.

Nice staff, reasonable price for a part replacement. It`s a small place located in a busy area so it can be hard getting in and out depending on where you're coming from/trying to go, but if you've got a short wait for a fix there're a lot of cafes and shops in walking distance and a park across the street, a quiet library.. all of which are really nice.

These guys are the real deal -- knowledgeable, friendly, honest, good prices. I've been going there for over 15 years, am no longer in the area every day, but still drive 40 minutes to take my car to them. Because they are that wonderful.

Rich has been servicing my cars for at least 20 years. He is always honest, discussing alternatives, telling me what really needs to be done and what I can postpone or ignore, and looking for ways to avoid expensive repairs.

I just needed my car fixed no matter the cost. I m a student, I work and a mother of 4. They wouldn t even price my stuff over the phone, only for me to come down and he was so Rude to me, as if I wasn t a paying customer! I waited 2days. Never go there!!
