Was looking for a place to provide a pre-purchase inspection for a car, and Herb's was really flexible with scheduling, my cancellations, and so on. Their service was very personal and informative, and they were happy to answer any questions. In the end they gave us really helpful info that helped us get a much better deal for the car and pointed out things we should keep an eye on with it. When I'm buying my next car, I'll be looking for Herb's to help me again! Thanks Joe and crew!

Did a emissions testing and was told it should be cleared from DMV between 24-48 hours it's been over that time frame . Was told I would have to wait another two more days untill the manager is in to discuss why it hasn't cleared. Do not recommend.

I went in today for my emissions testing and I was helped by a very professional and kind technician. He appeared to be the only employee performing the tests and it was constant, but he still maintained a polite demeanor throughout his work. I will continue to only use this facility for all of my emissions testing in the future!

I brought my truck in on 9/26/2023 and told Joe, the owner, that I believed to have a front wheel bearing going bad based on noise I was hearing. He went over, felt the inside of my tires, and said it was my tires making the noise as they appeared to be scalloped. I never heard of such a thing, but okay. He said leave the truck and they'll check it in the morning. I asked him also to do a full oil change and tire rotation, check blinking airbag light, and to replace my windshield wiper motor as that was going bad. I get called around 3 o'clock the next day to pick it up. While the bill was being tallied, I was told they replaced the serpentine belt as well, not knowing this prior to it being done. It was old any ways, but usually a repair station calls when they find other issues.I get in truck and leave and the noise in the right front was still there. I figured, must be the tires. Anyhow, I drive to R.I. for the weekend and coming home and it's getting louder. I get home and chat with my neighbor who's very mechanically inclined. We rotate my tires, as it wasn't done like I requested, took it for a spin and still noise. He looked at me and said your wheel bearing is going on the front right side. He could feel the vibration under his feet and the fact that when turning left, the noise went away until you straightened out or turned right, the rubbing was back.The next day my neighbor put on a new wheel bearing for me right in the driveway in like 1.5 hours and, bingo! Noise gone, and truck runs great! Time for a new "reliable" mechanic if my neighbor can't do the job. For now, "he" is my new mechanic. Done with Herb's!

Called to check the status for emissions testing as it is not cleared with DMV . First time here and will never go back .Workers are rude thought I hung up the phone and called me a jerk.

Honest and helpful. They charged less than quoted when the intermittent problem stayed dormant. Joe and Tom were both kind and understanding. I would feel comfortable recommending their services to anyone. I didn't get the same energy from the woman who took care of the payment however I can imagine she has seen and heard it all in that type of industry and just wants to keep things moving smoothly. I will definitely use Herbs again for repairs.Service: General repairs & maintenance

If I could give zero stars I would. The employees are very rude, called in advance to this location in hopes to have my brakes repaired. I had my car towed there to have the brakes repaired not realizing that I actually called a different location but still willing to have them service my car. The employee was so rude when I inquired about another service stating that they could not do the work, would not even let me explain that I would just get my breaks done. without even evaluating my car (which was still on the tow truck) told me that it was going to cost me $1000 for breaks??? He was even rude to the tow truck driver. Worst place in the world to bring your car. Horrible customer service. I had the driver take my car down the street to Paul's automotive at 422 Tolland St. Much better service and able to fix all repairs and for less.Service: Brakes

They are super knowledgeable friendly and have always done my repairs for reasonable prices. I use them for my American and foreign car repairs. Hands down the best family-owned repair shop in East Hartford and the surrounding towns.

Emission test only took 10 minutes after waiting behind 2 cars for 20min. Was able to take a look at the gift shop while I waited. Great idea to support local business!!

I love this place. They are always accommodating. They help break things down if I'm not understanding it, they listen to what your concerns are and try and help locate the problem. I have never felt overcharged for anything, I think they go above and beyond what I pay for sometimes. They are quick and efficient and everyone I have met there so far are very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend them!

They didn't even do the full job and changed me way too much. They just changed the outside brake pad to make it look new but the inside one was the old pad. That's just laziness and it's not right.

I got there and there was nobody in the office or working in the service area for me to ask about the emission test, so i went inside to ask them what i had to do to get my car inspected there, and one of the older guys came pretty much screaming at me telling me to get out of the place because i wasn't suppised to be inside, than i said i was just asking a question, and that i went inside because there were nobody else outside for me to ask , and he continued being totally arrogant so i said i was just gonna take my car to another place for the inspection. So that's the kind of service you will get from this place, treating the clients like DIRT is a big enough reason to give them a negative feedback! After that I took my car to another place called B&S automotive and they were great people and very friendly, professional workers and they treat the clients with respect, what a difference !!!

Went for an emissions test. the place is cash only for emissions. when I went to ask where was the line started the person at the front desk walked away and essentially yelled where the line started. otherwise the folks in the back who took care of me were great. ONCE AGAIN, if you are going for an emissions test Bring CASH and get there early. they are fast but it does take time.

Too long... waited almost two hours just to get the admissions testing. I guess if you're choosing this as a side service,atleast keep people informed of the time frame. Im guessing other things were priority for the business (like sales/services). Go somewhere else if you want rapid testing. Just an FYI!

After grocery shopping I locked my Keyes in the trunk and my son brought me a spare key which was a valet key and it does not open the trunk and the cable was broken so there was no way to open with button. It was 4::50 when I went to Herbs and ask the lady at front desk if someone could help me: She was very kind and reassuring and asked the owner and he was just as kind. He spent so much time trying to open trunk through back seat of car and eventually he called his hard working mechanic at home to see if he could come back to help. Together and after lots of pulling/pushing they got it open. I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with their willingness to help me that late in the day and then they did not even accept any kind of pay. I had lots of raw meats in trunk and I was scheduled for surgery the next day, so they saved me so much agony. I still need to get the cable fixed and take a guess who I will make my appointment with. I think I found myself a new mechanic :). Again, I want to thank them for their hard work and kindness.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Would recommend going elsewhere for your emissions test. The receptionist hung up on me before I was done asking questions. I still stopped by, but the line was 5 cars long and blocked all of the parking. When I went inside, the waiting room didn t have anything appealing in it, so I left. Drove to a dealership a town over and was in and out in 15 minutes. I m sure the shop does great work, but if there s a line for the emissions tests, don t bother.

Was expecting to go and get my emissions tested, but the woman on the phone was very cold and not friendly in the least bit. It took a 30 second phone call to make my decision that I do not want to spend my money at their place of business. They might do great work, but I will never find out.

I called this place to ask if they do emissions tests and the lady on the phone was rude and very short with me. I called a few days later before leaving, to ask if there was a long wait at the moment and got the same lady, who was again, very rude. Figured if I'm treated this way over the phone, I don't wanna find out how they treat their customers in person. Needless to say, I went elsewhere for my test.

I went to Herb's automotive in the early summer to get an oil change only for a few weeks later for my check engine light to turn on when I went to check my oil it was completely empty. Turns out the oil drain was not completely closed on. My car has been leaking oil the entire summer.Service: Oil changeService: Oil change

Thank you thank you to Joe and Maria!!!! I called last night bcuz my AC unite died & we have been having 90 plus days . Brought my vehicle in the next day my compressor went but seeing that the car is 12 yrs old not surprised. Joe said car would be ready by 2:30 it was ready by 12:40 awesome. Now I m riding in comfort again. . Maria at the front desk was sweet. Would have no problem coming back. Thank you guys again.

Herb's Automotive was just amazing I was treated very well, I went there today to get an emissions test done poor Joe worked so hard and the line was very long but he did a great job but like I said he was working so very hard all by himself that when I got back to my car to leave I noticed that Joe forgot to keep the $20 dollars for the text so I just walked back inside and said hey Joe you forgot your money.Joe works very hard and hard work should be rewarded not taking advantage of.Thank you very much Joe keep up the good work.

I can't ask for anything better. Such great service and awesome hospitality. I am not going any other place again. Herb's is my new home. Joe and Maria are the best ever. I thank everyone there that work on my car. I'm a very satisfied and happy customer. Great quality service with a smile.

Always fast Emissions testing. The employees are genuinely friendly and helpful.They also diagnosed and fixed my cars for a decent price. Helped me with my scooter too.

I can t say enough about Herb s!Joe and his wife Maria and his technicians were awesome. They fixed a very difficult issue on my son s car . They went above and beyond to fix the issue. They were very professional, HONEST and fair in repairing the car. Love this place! As a female I am always wary about car dealers/repairers, but having done most all the work on my own vehicles in the past and working at two car dealers service departments, I have learned a thing or two. Now I just don't have time and therefore put all my trust in this shop. They tell it like it is, and won't overcharge. The couple that owns the shop are very friendly and treat you like family. They will tell you if a repair is just not worth it, or if it is truly necessary.
