Update....since I wrote the original review I have returned to Terry's Transmissions and he went above and beyond to complete the service. Perhaps communication was still not perfect but he clearly cares about his customers and providing quality service.We had a transmission fluid leak in Ashford and called Terry's to have a look. $108 to diagnose (waved if he does the work) seemed reasonable so we brought it to him. We get a call back that the cooling lines need to be replaced and it will cost $250 to $280 to make and install the lines. Sounds fine so we say to go ahead. Surprisingly, when we pick up the van, we are charged over $395. I would have approved that figure as well but it would have been nice if the actual cost were a lot closer to the.quote.If in need in Ashford again I would possibly call Terry but it might not be my first call....so, three stars.

The business was trustworthy and knowledgeable. My problem could have been very costly to me. They accurately diagnosed that it wasn't my transmission but incorrect offset tires that were causing my all-wheel drive to not function properly. I corrected the tires and all it cost me was a troubleshooting charge. Very honest business.Services: Transmission, Auto engine diagnostic

Ya gotta love this guy. I have a bmw with 230 k miles. The automatic transmission starts acting up. He wouldn't fix it. Not worth it Terry said. Most places would take my 4-5 k dollars and put in a rebuild. Blue book on the vehicle is $ 1800. Thank you Terry

Terry fixed my 2013 E350 4matic transfer case noise when every other shop only offered to replace the entire transmission. He took the time to explain and show me exactly what he was fixing, and he gave me a fair price when I had no other options. I've been going to Terry since the late 1990's. He has serviced a number of transmissions for me and rebuilt three others. One was a late model vehicle used for drag racing car and the other a plow truck.The service is TOP NOTCH. Terry and his crew are honest, they know their business and in the event that there is any problems after the fact Terry goes above and beyond to back his work 100%.I originally went to Terry based on a recommendation from a friend. Now I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. I'll gladly drive the 70 miles each way anytime I need transmission services of any kind.Thanks Terry, Carla and Dennis. You guys are the best!

I'm incredibly grateful for Terry's honesty, & his willingness to help me save my money!More specifically, I just drove from Tennessee to Connecticut to spend time with my very ill brother. While in route, my 2007 Ford F-150 developed an unusual noise that I had thought was my transmission. Out of concern I took my truck to Terry's to have it looked at. After a test drive, & inspection, he quickly diagnosed the problem as a sticky clutch-fan. He assured me that it didn't pose any imminent mechanical concerns, & that I could continue driving it without spending a dime! How do you spell RELIEF? Thank you Terry, you're AWESOME!

was rude an nasty. had my tranny rebuilt there ($3000.00) and days later transfer case was leaking was told not my fault( by terry) but fixed it any way.no charge. come to find out you have to take off transfer case to rebuild the tranny. now under warranty i have said car towed to his shop. he (terry) wants me to pay for towing $105.00 NOT i don't know he wont submit it to his warranty co. and double dip.so i pay him for towing and he get's paid from warranty co. for towing this place is shady at best. STAY AWAY FAR AWAY NEVER MET HIM DONT LIKE HIM. ALSO, called state troopers to say i robbed him. what a joke he and his business is. no returning customers here

I wouldnt even give one star. Hubby dropped truck off for a diagnosis bc it wasnt shifting properly. Called to see how terry was making out. Was told he was testing this and that. Never once mentioned he was installing new parts without consent. After 2 days of him having the truck again without consent he started putting parts in it which didnt even solve the problem. Said it was the ecu, so instead of him raping us more decided to pick the truck back up. $900 later truck still isnt fixed. And he blew the service engine soon light and refused to replace it. He also broke the shifting cable so had to get a new one installed inorder to drive the truck home. Of course had to pay for his screw up.

I had a transmission on my 2001 Ford escort ZX2 go out on me and called for a possible quote. All I received was a very rude woman on the phone after I provided her with all the information. After the conversation was over and after I told her I'm just trying to get maybe another year and a half out of it, she told me you get what you paid for. I've had the car for 6 years and only cost me then $3000.00 so I know I defiantly did. Never will I recommend anything from this business.

I have only used Terry's for hydraulic hose repair, and they are wonderfully. Will.make new hoses while you wait. No complaints

Was able to work me in, in spite of already being busy. Was visiting ct from out of state and blew out my pinion seal. Replaced the seal so i was able to drive the 900 miles back home. Very willing to help, and very fair price for the repair.

I brought a dodge Ram to Terry with no reverse ans a transfer case issue. Terry looked at it and despite the tranny needing to be rebuilt he was able fix the transfer case and was able to patch the tranny and got me reverse. Awesome job thanks TerryJim Hoover

Did the job as far as I can tell, charged me twice as much as any other shop. If you're poor and feel like spending into your savings account for some odd reason, swing on by to terrys transmissions.

Skilled, knowledgable, honest, and fair. As others noted, he may be a bit difficult to get on the phone in a hurry and certainly works at his own pace, but will take the time to carefully explain the situation and suggested repairs.
