What a great group of people! Chris was super helpful & knowledgeable. The front office gals were so kind. Tim helped me get everything set up easily. And, they all went out of their way to help me understand what was going on with my vehicle and my options. Highly recommend!

10 out of 10, I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for Transmission rebuild. The work Tim, the owner provides and expects from his employees is top notch. They are extremely good at communicating and getting it done right. Tim worked on my 1996 F250 E40D for about a month. He re built the trans after it poped a front seal and imput shaft gasket and it over heated burning up 4th. He put it all back together and it would not shift 3rd. Tim re inspected it multiple times and gave me updates. He made it right fixing the issue and got the job done. The warranty Detroit Transmission has is also a great peace of mind. Especially if you own older trucks. If you need any Transmission work I would 100% take it to Detroit Transmission. Solid team and company!

This shop is truly fantastic. The transmission went out in my RV in the mountains and I had it towed here. Tim was very kind and helpful, and kept me well informed. The entire team was friendly and once the decision was made to rebuild the transmission, they had it done and ready for the road in 2 days! This is a shop I feel I can trust with the repairs I needed, plus they provided a warranty with their work which is a nice peace of mind. Pricing was reasonable and I would recommend this shop highly!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! They installed my transmission and I brought my car back to them to because the car would not shift higher than 2nd gear. They kept the car for 2 weeks and when I came to pick it up the car was locked but the ignition lock cylinder was destroyed! They claimed someone broke into our car but no broken windows or door. They must have left my car unlocked and are leaving me with the expense to fix it. Horrible, horrible, horrible!Service: Transmission

Tim and Harold really stand behind their work. I came in with an expensive custom build of my diesel transmission and after it was all done we had to do some trouble shooting which took several return trips. While it was frustrating for me since I live in Colorado Springs they were great to deal with and they stood behind their work. That is a trait that is really hard to come by in the transmission business. I can't recommend them strongly enough!! If you need transmission work go to Detroit Transmission.Service: Transmission

They did a full rebuild on the transmission of my bucket truck. Turnaround time was better than expected. 10 months later, it got stuck in gear and wouldn't move. DTS had it towed on their dime and fixed it(wound up being a loose bolt) for free, even though they still had to pull the transmission. They showed great integrity and did the right thing by standing behind their work.Service: Transmission

We live on the Western Slope and had our son's car towed when it broke down on a trip to Denver. It arrived there on a Friday afternoon and they jumped right on it. They replaced the CV axles for a reasonable price and had the car ready to drive by the end of the day. I really appreciate their honesty and integrity and fast service. I would definitely recommend and use them again.

Kirk and the staff at Detroit Transmission have absolutely earned my business. I came to them with an Audi S4 that nobody wanted to touch. The transmission was slipping and I got quotes from other shops who reneged on their initial offer to perform the repairs. Not only did Detroit do the job, they did it timely and for $1,500 less than I was quoted at the other shops. My S4 drives like new and I couldn't be more pleased. They communicated with me during the entire process, were responsive to questions, and were always kind and polite on the phone and in person.Service: Transmission

I had a transmission rebuilt in my 2004 Honda Accord and they did a fantastic job. I've heard stories of cars never being the same after a transmission rebuild and this was not the case. The transmission works and feels great and is almost exactly as good as before the rebuild. In addition I spoke with the owner when I had a minor issue we believe they caused and they handled it in a professional fashion and with great honesty. This shop is owned by a very honest man and I cannot recommend them enough. If you need a transmission rebuilt, this is the shop to take it too.

I brought my RV here for a new transmission. I liked the ratings and because they advertised their ATRA warranty. Two stars instead of one since they properly handled the first two times it failed under warranty. The first breakdown occurred within 1yr during an out of town trip and they covered the out-of-town repairs by another ATRA shop. However, it seems the case was cracked and it failed again - this time it was repaired by Detroit Transmission in Denver. They tried to repair the case instead of replacing it and it failed again while I was in Arizona. They had the out of town shop ship it back to Denver for repair but refused to cover the $1,000 cost for removal & re-installation - which is supposed to be covered under warranty! They no longer return my calls and I was forced to pay the $1,000 out-of-pocket to get my RV back. So after 3 replacements within 2yrs, lack of response, and failure to honor the warranty on the final repair - I give 2 stars.Service: Transmission

Our daughter was driving from Michigan to San Diego, California when she started her trek through Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Suddenly she thought her transmission had failed on her Ford Transit van. Her first quote was $4,200 for a new transmission but thankfully that mechanic referred her to DETROIT TRANSMISSION. The owner of Detroit Transmission took the van for a test drive and said there was nothing wrong with the van. It probably just wasn t used to the high altitude. He said if she was his daughter he d tell her to get in the van and keep driving. So she did. She made it to California safely! She said the owner and his son were very nice and trustworthy. THANK YOU so much for being honest with her!!!! We really appreciate you re help and integrity.Service: Transmission

Great experience getting our 2007 Ford Escape worked on. They were recommended by our regular mechanic John's Automotive in Golden and another friend at Frijoles Colorado who also had a great experience there. Our Ford is running great and we have the transmission under warranty through them so they back up their work. We will definitely recommend them to anyone needing transmission work done.

Nice people, terrible mechanics. Do not take your car to them unless you want to pay another mechanic to redo the job. I came in because my car needed a new axle because it was leaking transmission fluid. These guys did not bolt it in properly which ended up causing even more damage to my transmission and made the car borderline impossible to drive. So I had to spend $400 at a real mechanic to get it done right. I'd give zero stars if I could.

Tim was amazing! Brought in our Subaru because we thought something was wrong with the transmission. He ran a free diagnostic and found nothing wrong. He then brought our car down the street for us to get the fuel system checked because that's what he thought was wrong. The most honest and customer oriented mechanic I've ever worked with!

These guys are as good as it gets. They seem to be able to work on every transmission imaginable--the last time I was in there I saw everything from an RTD bus to a Mazda RX7 getting worked on. I've had two separate jobs done there and totally satisfied with both. They're straight talkers, won't do more than is necessary and do a great job.

My 1999 4WD Suburban (about 180,000 miles) had developed a drive train noise over the course of 6 weeks. The noise was growing louder so I took my vehicle to John's Automotive Diagnostics in Golden for a diagnosis. John is where I go first when I can't fix the problem with my vehicles. The tentative diagnosis was the 'transfer case', and it was recommended that I take my vehicle to Detroit Transmission Specialists for a second opinion. John's estimate for the repair was $1.5-$3K, so a second opinion was warranted. When I took the vehicle to Detroit Transmissions for their opinion, John's initial diagnosis was confirmed.I authorized the work to repair the Suburban. Two things happened. 1) The transfer case was not as badly damaged as originally thought, so the cost for repair of that item was just under $1K. 2) The technician performing the repair noted that the rear differential had bearings with excessive play. So that got fixed as well.Total cost of repair was just under $2K. Considering both the transfer case and differential were repaired, I considered this a good deal. It's been about two months since the repair and the drive train remains quiet. The work has a 1 year warranty, and at this point, I have no concerns.I would recommend this shop to anyone with transmission issues. 7-28-2012

Tim and Kirk were great to work with. I was in a jam and they got me rolling again. Was originally referred to them by a national chain tire shop downtown a year ago when my clutch went out. That too was a professional job.

A couple other shops gasped in fear when I told them about the upgraded rebuild I wanted to do for my BMW's ZF trans. Kirk and the guys at DTS are badass and had no problem tackling the job for me. Highly recommended

Had problems with a transmission detroit transmission built and RT Automotive installed. Tranny was not shifting out of first being RT Automotive charged me$ 5600 for a job that was supposed to cost $3400 6000 miles ago. I brought my truck to Detroit transmission Tim the owner said everything would be covered under warranty Great I said. Four days later I revived a call from Kurt at Detroit. He told me it was a broken sensor that was under warranty he also told me I needed new tranny lines he quoted me$ 572 to replace the lines. I told him to do it however, when I came to pick up my truck the bill was was $746. I asked why the lady at the counter told me Kurt was not there and she did not known. I came in the next day and was told by Tim the owner that if I returned again I WOULD BE SHOT needless to say I called the police i had no witness so I was unable to prosecute Tim the owner of Detroit transmission. I did not get the quote in writing so nothing I can do but write this add. If you use this shop get everything in a written quote and possibly where a bullet proof vest before pickup

I have had Detroit build a c4 automatic transmission in a hotrod that makes 700 horsepower. After 3 years it still holds strong. I also had them replace a clutch and rebuild the manual tranny in a toyota truck. Awesome work and amazing customer service. Tim and Kurt run an honest business and i would not even consider taking anything I drive to anyone else. I am a mechanic and don't like messing with transmissions. These guys are top notch!

Girl at front desk kinda clueless. I put two input shafts in front of her and i asked her how much would be to swap bearing from one to the other. (This would literally take five minutes with their press, cause i did all the dirty and disassembly work.) She tells me they don't carry these parts. I didn't ask her to replace parts. So she had to go ask Kurt for help, okay. Kurt tells me they have an hour minimum, 95 bucks. $95 bucks for 5 min. Overpriced, counter girl doesn't listen, and Kurt refered me to a place that doesn't deal with transmissions. I wouldn't even refer someone i disliked to this place. This place must be doing real well working on police cars, cause they overcharge anyone else. Other shops deserve your business a lot more.

Highly recommended! They definitely stand by their word to the point they drove down to Colorado Springs to pick up my truck and take it back to Denver and made it right!! Stand up guys, outstanding customer service!

They are still the best. This is my second experience with Tim and Kurt. First time my engine went out before the transmission. This time I had taken my Duramax to Diesel repair & performance in parker paid them a chunk of money to fix the transfer case. Needless to say that was less than six months and 6000 miles ago. Kurt took a look at my truck and figured out the other guys had screwed up the size of my drive shaft made it too short. Installed my transfer case with only 3 bolt, and fried my transmission and transfercase. IT RUNS LIKE A NEW TRUCK AGAIN THANKS TO KURT AND TIM. if you want it done right take it to detriot.

Tim Tapper has always been someone I can trust and who sincerely goes all out to tell the truth, even if it means he won't get any business because of it. This is not a one time experience. I've known of Detroit Transmission for years, and they are trustworthy, competent, professional and courteous. I would recommend him to anyone, and send the most vulnerable little single mom or senior citizen to hm because he won't take advantage of anyone. The previous review talks about Detroit Transimssion being much cheaper than the dealer. I would pay more to go with Tim and staff just to be confident that the work was not just done, but done right. Thanks again Tim! Doug Ehrlich
