I called this company first thing this morning to inquire about getting a replacement key fob made for my 2014 Nissan Sentra that was parked 4 minutes away from his business according to Google maps. The man tried to tell me it would be $700 to replace my key fob. And when I tried to explain to the man that I've had one made before and it was under $100, he got angry with me and started yelling at me until I just hung up on him. There is something crooked happening at City Lock here in Boulder and I feel it necessary to warn others thru this review platform.

I needed to change locks on my business. The owner was very helpful and educated me on how to install it. I was even loaned a jig to drill out holes in the door. Thankyou!

Avoid this place.Really.Jeff (the owner?) is one of those nice guys until you have an issue, then you're going to deal with an angry, impatient, short-tempered man. After numerous phone calls asking him where the parts were for my lock, in which he was totally rude (said he doesn't have time to talk, will call back but does not, etc), he arrives one month after his first visit to do the repair. He replaces the parts. The lock barely works better than before. Loose, broken locking knob not fixed. The key sticks and is not easy for either he or I to turn. It's a joke.He wanted to charge almost $1,000 to replace the workings of the lock and give it back to me so dysfunctional, it requires him telling me how to lock the house. "The lock will not work like new!" he says. Ok, but can it work like a functional lock that a house guest can use without a tutorial? Come on."I'll never make you happy" he yells. I told him to put the old parts back on and leave.I wasted $200 on his initial estimate, one more month waiting for parts, and a number of absurd, totally unprofessional phone calls.Go someplace else.

I was bowled over by the depth of knowledge of the proprietor. Great attention to detail and reasonable prices. Would come back.

Jeff at City Lock was incredibly kind, caring and generous to me yesterday. Over the telephone, which he actually answered, he patiently walked me through my problem troubleshooting my issues step by step. And guess what? In less than 10 minutes my door lock was locking and unlocking again! In other places, a guy would have come out, done what I did myself, and then charged me at least $200.00. I feel so lucky that I found Jeff at City Lock. You should call him too. By the time the other companies called me back my door was all fixed and I hadn't spent a dime!

My dealer sent me to this guy because they trusted he would do a good job and he didn't disappoint. I called and he was able to help me over the phone. Apparently, the dealership wanted to charge me $180/hr for something that he was able to give me instructions on and took me 5 minutes to complete. I am so glad I called here first. As women, we often get taken advantage of in the automotive industry. I feel so empowered today! I am so grateful to this guy.

I couldn't have had a better experience! Jeff was so kind and worked on his day off to find the code for my key from GMC to make a new one. It was not an easy task and he was very patient. The cost was half of what i was quoted from others to come out and do it. He said i could just come down the road to the shop and it would be cheaper. This is a business that cares and really takes pride in their work. Thank you Jeff!Service: Lock rekeying

I visited to have two keys cut and programmed to my vehicle. The owner is very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. He really knows his craft. Cutting and programming two keys took about 20 minutes. I would take his advice on not buying your keys online. Mine did work but after talking to the owner I can see how many would not work. My only complaint is that the Google page shows Citylocks service hours. The retail location actually closes at 2:00 PMServices: Car digital & remote key reprogramming, Car key copying

Needed a new battery for my cars key fob and this guy knew exactly how to get into it and change it out. Took 5 minutes and I was in and out, and less than $15. He even showed me a few features with my vehicle through my fob remote the dealership had never shown me! A+ service!

The key hole for the ignition in my Honda Pilot became too worn down to get the key in (a common problem apparently). At the dealership this replacement is close to $1000, Jeff quoted a significantly better price and completed the project quickly. He was very helpful and friendly throughout the whole experience. Ignition works like new now, and he gave me 2 new keys for my car as well.

Jeff is great. So thorough and so quick! He helped me understand how the locks work, why they break, and even gave me a demonstration on the durability of the new lock he was making for me by trying to break a copy of it using a vice grip and a pliers and twisting attempting to twist it apart. It didn't break. He charged me way less than the quotes I found online for a chip Honda Pilot key.

I went to City Lock with a key and ignition problem. My trusted mechanic recommended them. The owner was very helpful to me. He spent 20 minutes thoroughly researching the issue and found that it was not a key and ignition issue but something else, and gave me advice about what to do next. He did not charge me for his time. I felt that he was very helpful, thorough, and honest, and will go back to that shop for any of my key and lock needs from now on.

Excellent experience! I locked my keys inside my pop up camper. I called around to a couple different locksmiths, but I couldn't get any straight answers about price quotes or appointment times. When I called City Lock it was smooth, professional and easy. I was told to just bring my camper up to the shop anytime- and that it would save me money on a trip fee. Once I got there the camper was opened up in no time and I got my key from inside. City Lock also cut me a spare key and did the research to make sure everything was correct. One of the quotes I did get from another company was a range, FOUR to FIVE times more than what City Lock charged me to pick the lock. This is a great local Boulder Company. I highly recommend them.

Really awful customer service. I bought a replacement FOB there 6 months ago because my original was in luggage that was stolen. Ever since then, the battery dies whenever it is exposed to prolonged cold. My original key and my finances key never had this issue so I went in and complained that it was something wrong with the key. I wanted my $$ back and he proceeded to argue with me the entire time, interrupt me and even walk right up to me trying to intimidate me. He refused to refund my $$ and went on to blame the car for having a third party remote system causing me to be stranded every time the battery dies in the FOB because putting the key in manually sets off the alarm. That is an issue but not related to fact the key doesn't work properly which was my argument! When a product doesn't work, I think it is completely reasonable for a customer to go in and ask for a refund and not be berated with pointless arguments and disrespect. Went here to try to save a few bucks vs the dealership key....not worth it. I even tried agreeing with his admittedly reasonable compromise of replacing the key with the stipulation that if it happens again, THEN he would refund my $$....Nope, still more arguing and refusing to refund. Save the headache and go somewhere else...

I bought a remote key on-line for my Honda Accord and took it to City Lock for cutting and programming. I was very pleased with their service. I also learned it's not a good idea to buy a remote key on-line because you really don't know for sure what you are getting. You can do the same thing at a reputable locksmith like City Lock and pay about the same. But, you at least have some kind of warranty on the key. Thanks City Lock for providing excellent customer service.

Very knowledgeable and capable. Was able to make me a spare key for less than half what the Subaru dealership charges.

This is the worst experience I've ever had! After paying for a tow truck to tow my car there on the promise that he could program my vehicle no problem! He did not delive and continued to mess with my car ruining my insterment cluster costing me thousands of dollars!!! Finally I had to have my car towed To the dealership were they informed me the keys he sold me were no good and not programable! They gave me an official letter stating this and I brought it to him for a refund and he refused and was very rude! I hope no other hard working citizens ever have to be cheated by this guy!

Today was my second visit to have my Subaru key fob repaired and received the same courteous service as I did on my first visit.I cannot understand the negative comments made by Mr Trout as ?Geoff served two other customers whilst I was there - in a jovial and professional manner and shared a laugh with me as I had also brought my wife's key (and it obviously didn't fit) but repaired my real (battery) fob in milliseconds!I drove 45 miles to the store as I knew I'd get the right recult - and I did!GOODONYA MATE"Aussie" Bob O'Brien, Fort Collins

This guy is a wizard. If he can't make you a key for something, no one can.

City Lock is a great service. It can be expensive, but blame the security updates the auto makers keep developing. I had two keys made after spending time and money on a DIY plan. Now I'm having my ignition cylinder fixed. In the end, City Lock will get it done right.

Pretty awful customer experience, twice in a row 4th Edit: Almost four years later and I'm still disappointed and genuinely confused with the unprofessional response to my experience. Best of luck!3rd Edit: The [current] response to this review is not how my first experience went at all and now it's confirmed that the person responsible for responding to this review is confused. It was extremely simple to find a different business willing to (nicely) help me. All I'm doing is sharing my personal experience. (Note, after their third edit, the company only denies and misrepresents events - at no point have they taken any responsibility or apologized for treating my so negatively - in person/online. Nice.)2nd Edit: The shop changed their review response (instead of adding and edit) to state inaccurate information about the experience. Shady.1st Edit: Shop replied to my review which is nice. He hadn't explained ANY of that to me in person when I showed up, simply said "I close in 3 minutes can't help you." Instead of explaining anything or offering for me to coming back or set up an appointment, he treated me rudely. I politely said thank you and he made a nasty face at me as I left. I wish he'd been polite and explained the situation. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but when they are warranted people deserve to know.A note, I might have come in shortly before closing (I get off work at 5:15, made it by 5:27 and would have easily been able to set up an appointment for a different day) but his response to my review takes NO responsibility for the way he treated me last time (yes, there were 2 unfortunate experiences, as I stated in the beginning of this).I like to assume people are having a bad day, so let's hope it's just my bad luck

Very helpful and friendly and cut my keys that I didn't purchase there. Just make sure your keys are compatible to your vechicle if not purchasing them there. Programmed them quickly and easily as I didn't have any modification done to my car.

Jeff is great, and his prices are reasonable. You might think you are getting a deal on new door locks at Big Box Mart, but then if you needing the keys matched... his prices end up being the same. Plus, you will enjoy an unhurried, small shop feel.

I entered this establishment to get keys cut for a 15 year old vehicle. The person at the counter started the conversation with with a noticeable east coast accent "whatta ya want" ? I replied that I would like to have extra keys cut for my vehicle as I placed the original and blanks on the counter in front of him. He frowned, grabbed them up and silently walked away. It was followed by a very short, rude and condescending explanation of the process and how much it would cost me. I decided immediately that I don't ever want to do business with this guy and this (his?) business. I highly recommend that you don't either. Unless you're from Boston, Brooklyn etc. Then, I guess, you like being treated that way because it's normal.

I was locked out of my store due to the lock malfunctioning. I called City Lock and they were at my door in 2 minutes and got me in! $125 but worth it. He explained what was wrong. I chose not to fix it at the time.... 3 weeks later same issue. He made me new keys for $12 and all is well now. I would highly recommend.

Happy to have found a locksmith in Boulder and would definitely recommend to others. Jeff was incredibly nice and helpful. It took him less than 5 minutes to unlock my faulty gas cap, and it became quite obvious to me that he really knows what he is doing. He even called the dealership for me to see if they had a new one to send me. Thanks again, will call you of I'm having key trouble in the future.

I am a automotive repair shop owner and due to the high security of keys for cars, I can only program a few, typically your just looking at paying the high cost dealer, or there is CITY LOCK....City Lock is my go to first for quality and value in lock smith services. Getting locks keyed alike, programming, and key cutting, they do a really fine job at City Lock.Thank you for several years of reliable service for my business, and my referrals.
