I am writing this review in hopes that someone else might see it among all these raving reviews and save themselves from a potentially deadly situation.Please see the photos. This is Fred's work.I was a customer of Fred's for 8 years and always appreciated the low costs and what I thought was honest work.Then last August (2017) I took my car in for rear brakes. The mechanic who was working on my car left for lunch (my car was one of the last cars repaired for the day - i am pretty certain this story was a blatant lie) without putting new pads in. The car was marked as complete and they called me to pick it up.The next day, I was driving home from work in Beverly Hills and suddenly found myself without any brakes whatsoever. I was extremely lucky that I had no cars in front of me as I rolled off to the side. This could have killed someone at a higher speed.Fred did NOT console me, did NOT reimburse costs, and even stated that he could NOT GUARANTEE it would never happen again.Well he was right about that last part.Today I took my car in for a smog and oil change somewhere else. The mechanic showed me that when I took my car to Fred on 11/30/2017, the mechanic who changed my oil left the old seal and added a second seal on incorrectly. Again I was very lucky as this could have cost me my engine. Fred GUARANTEED me personally that he would put his best mechanic on this work.I will never return to Fred. Maybe he used to be great, but no longer. Please save yourself. Pay the extra 20 bucks and go somewhere with quality care.

A Godly and faithful man originally owned this shop. His family has continued in his memory to be truly giving to the community. Eddie has made time and understands that my disabled husband cannot be without his car. This week, they worked very hard to prepare it within days since we didn't have it fixed in the hospital. They are honest and considerate of the economy. It's not free, but you won't need to return about the problem. They keep our 2006 Trailblazer going, and one of their mechanics sold it to us. We have driven it to North Idaho a handful of times.

(UPDATE it s 5/4/2022 1:07am - after driving my car around my check engine light came on. i am extremely mad about this. I don t understand how this could had possibly happen and now my car has this light. all they did was change a master cylinder DONT EVER COME HERE )Written on 5/3/2022 7:36pm - Look don t get me wrong the guys are Friendly but when it comes to the work I don t know if I can say it s professional. I came in for my Nissan for a brake fluid leakThey told me it was the master cylinder (which in my head I knew it was already because I wanted to do it myself but everyone told me go to them) I looked up cylinders for my car and the most expensive one I saw was 105 so I just let them provide the part. I needed it done the same day but they told me tomorrow which whatever okay it s cool. Not once did they ever tell me if I wanted to go through with it nor did they tell me the part and brand they bought. They didn t inform me on what they were going to do. I had to be the one to keep asking questions. I felt rushed, as if they wanted me gone quickly. God knows if they even if they did it right.They told me it was ready I go and it costed me almost 400 for everything . Unbelievable the part they bought was 164 and the labor 150 which I get it but when I got it they didn t bother to show me what they did. Gave me the keys and started saying bye I had to ask to show me the car and the work they did for it They didn t even show me my old master cylinder. They left grease and oil stains on my steering wheel and car hood. After I took the car for a drive, it starting acting weird it wasn t doing this before I came to Fred s. Now it s hard to accelerate/jerks and it idles rough now.when I checked out my car I saw a part of my air intake filter hose was broken, which it wasn t broken before. IDK but I won t be coming back. The guys are friendly but either they get they stuff together or something it s NOT WORTH YOUR TIME go somewhere elseService: Brake service & repair

You're gonna read positive and negative reviews about everything whether it's a particular item or service. Here's my take on this... I quit going to the dealer cause they charge a stupid amount for their work. I asked them how much they'd charge to replace a seat belt I'm thinking 40/50 dollars I had the part. They said $300 I shook my head and walked out. Came here I paid $70 and was in and out in half an hour! I've been coming here for at least 10 years loved talking to Fred the original owner. Normally I'm here on Saturday but sometimes on a weekday and one of the guys sais hey it's not Saturday what are you doing here and I reply really is it Sunday? With me I can joke with a few of the guys I've been here so long

Hello everyone! This is The Best shop ever The Owner Fred sadly has gone with the Lord for some time, But his beautiful wife and all workers are still great and honest true Christian s Eddy and all workers are amazing, I highly recommend you this shop!!You will come back and your friends and family will also. Very Honest and very Kind and caring for persons needs Yes!! Go Eddy and your crue!!!! this is the best shop in whittier the deals are amazing !! on Mondays. I get to pick any deal from their board and it s great because I have variety to choose from thanks to jayy for all the help.

Ive had so many bad experiences with other mechanics but FREDS AUTOMOTIVE IS THE ONLY PLACE I TRUST ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. I ve been coming here the last 2 years. I have an older car (2006) and of course there is always something wrong with it. But they are always there for me. With very reasonable prices. And eddy explains thoroughly for me when I don t understand something. He s replaced my axle, replaced engine mounts.. I ve bought spark plugs. He placed them for me. I bought a coolant reserve tank. He placed it for me. I took my car to see why it s not blowing cold air. He checked it for me. Turns out it was just the fuse. Didn t charge me for the little fix which I was very appreciative..and other things I ve needed fixed.. I never had any complaints about this place. And I ve been to plenty of mechanics before. And once again this place is the ONLY PLACE I TRUST!!Service: Vehicle maintenance

Great and reliable place. Been coming here for more than 4years and always have a good experience. Finally decided to write a review because this is the second time they help me out, when they could have take advantage like other mechanics would. This time took mike 99chevy because it was having some small issues and I really couldn t figure it out. So I took it to Fred s and they told me it was a small wire... and at no charge!This what makes them a great place of service, because I know they could had said it was something else and they could have also charge me for just checking my truck like every other mechanic. I really appreciate their honesty. And hope they never change. Will be hopefully a customer for many more years. Thank you Services: Engine repair, Electrical system service & repair

Freddy s (previously Fred s Automotive) was my go to auto shop for many years. Fred ran a tight ship with great prices and solid work. Since he passed away I have found it to be a bit hit and miss. It is still above average but the workmanship has somewhat decreased and that s been disappointing.

I've used Freddy's more than once for my old Nissan Xterra repairs and each time, including last week when my service engine light came on (radiator needed to be replaced due to a leak), they have provided fast repairs at a reasonable price. Took awhile for me to find a mechanic to trust in the Whittier area so anyone reading looking for somewhere reliable to take you car should give this place a shot.Service: Engine repair

I came to Whittier from San Diego... as we were driving, right front tire lost two nuts and about to fall off. My BF took my car in to Fred's. He was really happy with their prompt service and the price was very good. Will definitely go to him as needed when I am in town.

This is an awesome mechanic shop, honest good guys. If you need good work done from good Christian people these guys are it. They went above and beyond everything I asked them to do. I will not only get most of my work done to my vehicles with Fred's. I recommend them to everyone I know.

DON'T GO HERE! DON'T GO HERE!!! They will rip you off no problem. I went to get both of my O2 sensors fixed and when I picked it up it cost me $300 and NOTHING was fixed. I took it back and again they did NOTHING! So they stole from me! This place is a waste of time and should be shut down!

Fred's is the best!!! I am their neighbor at the VIP Apts and they have helped me on the spot many times and I have always been completely satisfied with the service, advice, prices & very friendly neighbourly greetings! I actually stay living at these apartments because of their excellent service! I know they do the best work because they are always!!!! Busy!!!! They are a community service automotive business and I Highly!! Recommend them!

Brought our van into Fred s because it was making a noise. I said it sounded like the brakes. They said it was the transmission. They rebuilt the transmission and when we got it back, the car was still making the noise. Took it back and Fred s said it was the brakes. They fixed the brakes and refunded the transmission cost. Next day, the transmission starts slipping. Brought it back and they adjusted it. Fast forward a couple of months. Driving down the freeway and transmission fluid starts pouring out of the dipstick. Now I need to go pay for someone to fix my transmission that was working fine in the first place.

This was most far the "WORST" Experience I've ever deal with from a auto shop. Thought I could put my trust in these guys to fix my car right and get what I was paying for. Didn't happen at all!!!!They were suppose to replace my radiator with a brand new one, which it was used, but still had nerve to over charge. Had them changed my oil, and they didn't even do it, but charged me anyways. Then they had nerve to charge me for coolant but didn't even put coolant in my Reserve bottle. I'm very disappointed especially as a single women with two kid's, who works hard, and goes to school. It's just another place taking advantage of people especially women because they assume we don't know any better.Spent over 600.00 dollars here and for What? To have someone else fix what wasn't done right. I never wrote a review for any place in my life, and this was far the most corrupted place. It's so sad that we have evil people in this world. Won't ever be returning here. & good luck to those who do!

Fred has been my mechanic for 16 years. The most honest and best in the business I have ever known in my 44 years of owning a vehicle.I can highly recommend Fred's Automotive to anyone from my closest friends and family to any stranger looking for a good mechanic.

I went in to this place because something was leaking supposedly it was coolant. My car was there for 2 days and during those 2 days the engine light went on and gave a code(which it hasn't done to my car in 2 years) then all of a sudden my engine is cracked. They said to fix it I would need to get a new motor. They ended up only charging me for parts which was suspicious. When I finally took my car home the few miles to get there my car smelled like something was burning inside. It never used to smell like that. 0 stars. Instead of fixing my car made it worse. I can't believe auto shops like this exist. Oh and the number is incorrect on yelp. Might want to check yelp people scary reviews there similar to mine. -_- Beyond Annoyed.

My husband has taken his truck in twice to have his engine replaced, since the first time he got it back the engine failed leaving him stranded in 95 degree weather. Just got it back 2nd time and still not running correctly. He outsources this kind of work. Fred's staff are rude and never return calls when promised. We can never get through to talk to Fred, and are told he's on vacation every time. My mom recommended we come here, since he is an honest guy. Its been months of dealing with this, and have had the WORST EXPERIENCE.

These are what Fred's is "famous" for.I decided to try Fred's based on not one, but multiple (isolated) mentions and raves of people telling of his trustworthiness (integrity/honesty) quality, and speed. The raves and recommendations, were from church going Christians, and not.At Fred's, it is very common to receive an estimate of what the repair price could be, only to receive a call (on the same day) to find out that the cost would be a mere fraction of the original estimate, after all!If they find something inexpensive was causing the problem, like a loose wire etc, they let you know!We'll, I can say that I have taken my car to Fred's a couple of times now and have had the same repeated experiences: Receiving a friendly call (same day, while at work) to inform me that my car is fixed and ready to go, with a "the problem was minor after all" report.Before Fred's, I feared and hated having to take my vehicle to a shop because of past personal and shared experiences opposite to what you experience at Fred's. I've been to and have heard stories of going to other mechanics and getting charged for work that wasn't needed based on either higher initial estimates or having the mechanic "discover" a much costlier fix once you are gone and they've have time to "discover" what the problem is.Thank you, and kudos to Fred and his men!!!(he apparently hires mechanics of the same ethos)P.s.It turns out, Fred is a pastor where he attends church every week, for many years now.

My wife took her 2013 Honda Accord V6 to Fred's Automotive for an oil change in June 2013. I took her car there for another oil change in early 2014. While I was there, I noticed from their oil change reminder sticker on the windshield that they had replaced the oil with 5w20 oil. This car uses 0w20, which only comes in synthetic blend or full synthetic motor oil. I asked them if they used conventional oil in the car and they said yes. I told them that the recommended oil for this car, per the manufacturer, was 0w20, a synthetic oil. They tried to convince me that 1) the manufacturer also recommended 5w20, 2) it was written right on the oil fill cap, and 3) 0w20 also comes in conventional, making it okay to use 5w20 conventional oil. I told them to go check it again, and showed them on Google that 0w20 ONLY comes in full synthetic/synthetic blend. I asked them if they switched back and forth from synthetic oil and conventional oil in their own cars, and I got a blank stare. They checked the oil fill cap, which says to only use 0w20 (duh). They then said that since they didn't carry 0w20 synthetic oil, that if I bought the oil, they would do the oil change for free. I told them I'd think about it, and left and never returned. I ended up doing the oil change myself, with the correct oil and an hour of my time.I'm not an ASE technician, but even I know you're not supposed to use conventional oil in an engine designed for synthetic, much less switch back and forth between the two. The oil change interval on the Accord is 7000 miles, which is fine if it had been running on synthetic. But the standard life of the 5w20 conventional oil is 5000 miles. So, I have been running on oil 2000 miles past its recomended life. I doubt there's permanent damage, but if a place can't bother with something as simple as read the oil fill cap and Google "oil for 2013 honda accord", how can I trust them to do it right the second time? That was just pure laziness (or worse, incompetence) on their part.
