This place has a great atmosphere and a great view. They are dog friendly in the outdoor seating area. The fish was nice and fresh, my husband liked his burger. The fries are just fries and I sampled some beers and they just weren't my taste. It's just a long road to drive if you don't live in the area. They had a band playing so that was cool.

Good beer and nice location/setting. Unfortunately the bartender/server was a real sourpuss, really killed the vibe and we left after one beer and decided to eat somewhere else. We went to the Venezuelan restaurant and had great food and amazing servers. Gyppo should send their staff to Mi Mochima for training to see how customers should be welcomed and treated. Also it would have been nice to have the outdoor fire pit lit on a 55 degree day.

Offers so much, but delivers little else than good beer. Good value and tasty beer, but overpriced fish and fries. Good spot for sunset.

Awesome beers and food! Coolest location ever, really makes you wish you had a plane and private pilots license. There is a super small airport you can fly right into Shelter Cove. Lots of folks know this area as "The Lost Coast". They are really good people, care about the community, and have a wonderful business. They have fun stuff going on throughout the year, but our favorite thing is just coming here with a few friends in the evening to have some dinner and beers around the outside fire pit.I got their BBQ burger here, and it was delicious. Great service, great location, can't beat it.

The Fish and Chips were great, might have a little cayenne in the batter. The tarter sauce was excellent, best I've had, frankly. The "Safety Meeting" beer was great! And they have beer to go. Our server was nice and attentive.Down side, it was cold and we had to sit outside on a Tuesday night and that means the food was cold. The special that day, pork tacos weren't so tasty. We didn't bother mentioning the cold food because we didn't want to wait in the cold any longer. We had ordered a burger to go for my son and they cooked it at the same time as everything else, which was totally lame, it was completely cold and had to be reheated. Didn't think to tell them to wait, that's like restaurant 101, you wait until the table is mostly finished and make a to-go order, especially given the prices, that is just something I've never had to explain, but anyway.

This establishment is running a great little operation. Clean, good vibe, and tasty eats! The beers we had were all great, and the staff was super helpful in the beer selection. If you're local, camping, or just visiting, it's an ideal refreshing spot. The root beer is awesome, too. The bar does need to kill their patio lights sooner for the camp site as soon as they can. It's just too bright.

The beer was good. I ordered soup and a salad. The soup was not creamy like I like my chowder to be. I told the server I did not like my chowder so he took it off my bill. The salad was a blue cheese wedge. The wedge was so small that it really took like maybe 4 or 5 small bites and iy was gone. My so called salad and my small chowder was $24. So I actually just paid a whopping $14 for my tiny wedge. Unheard of. Usually the wedges I have ordered in the past have always been a decent size. I have never paid that kind of money for soup and salad. I don't know of anybody in their right mind that would pay that kind of money for soup and salad. We were told that it was expensive before we got there and they were absolutely right. Not going back there again.

Just a general Unfriendly and unwelcoming vibe. Maybe just our server, but wouldn t return.Very cool place, great location and good but pricey beers. Just didn t feel a typical friendly brewery vibe due to the lack of hospitality. Maybe the server had a bad day but leave it at home.

Lots of beer choices, we were here on a long weekend , thee were bit understaffed, food was running out and it took quite a while for the food to arrive, but it s a great place to hang out , lot of seating area and plenty of car parking , chicken wings is highly recommend and their salad is delicious.Hot brownies is not so great, over sweet

Conveniently located next to the black sand beaches. They only serve from the brunch menu until 1pm on weekends. The waffles were good!

Took them 45 -50 minutes to serve beer! Lol , you are a brewery you are not even cooking beer to the order, it's ready on the tap, why would it take so long! and customers checking in with 2 different waiters Tables and chairs were dirty, you have to find someone to clear and cleanFries were cold, hot chocolate was barely warm and that is all the food we managed to get and eat in 6pm to 7.35pm / 90+ minutes Of course we're not wasting another hour of our life hoping someone is working on our main course Disappointed, if I have ever seen terrible service, it was here

gyppo is one of the few places to eat in shelter cove; it s also a rare find. the on-tap beer select is broad. the band is playing blue grass on the patio. kids are running around the grass yard and playing corn hole. the fire pit is on.the staff is running as hard as they can as the shelter cove locals and tourists descend on the one hopping place !the food is good pub food. the fish items on the menu are well prepared and moist. be warned: the kitchen is always backed up. order early, drink a beer or two, chill and watch the sunset, and check back.

This place is amazing! Great food and service. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I love the origin story of the place. The ambience is chill with great lighting at night. I had the mouthwatering salmon burger. It definitely hit the spot after being 5 days in the backcountry. Highly recommend to others.

Fantastic service, great food and beer, amazing vibes! They even included non-brewery favorites such as Humboldt Cider.

Craft root beer was very good, not a too harsh licorice taste that most have. Chicken burger was delicious, as was their aioli with it. Fries were salted well, and very nice ambiance to dine in. Had board games, ping pong, and Cornhole for all to enjoy. Service was good, and had a beautiful sunset. Would revisit.

Worth the drive to the coast. Great brews, great views and excellent food. Comfortable setting and friendly staff combine to make this a memorable experience. Wings hit the spot. Salads are carefully crafted. Highly recommended!

I love The Cove taking a drive out there makes any day better. This place is a nice addition. The fish was great. And yes like others have said... It's a little spendy. But everything costs more in Southern Humboldt & I admire their commitment to using fresh local organic Ingredients when possible. I can't critique the beer, but I can tell you that the iced tea was great! And I'm serious about this. It was really good tea. So.... Feel good about supporting local farmers and fisherman. Bask in the sea air. Have a beverage and camaraderie. Don't cry about the cost. This ain't Fresno and it ain't McDonald's.

When we visited for dinner in late July 2022, a third of the staff were out with COVID, so Gyppo's offered what it called a "Patience Menu" with just 3 entrees. We were looking forward to a steak dinner, which wasn't available. Otherwise, we had a great time. We shared a beer flight. We ate on the large deck, where there was a band playing instrumental oldies. Service was great--props to everyone staying so cheerful while understaffed. Highly recommended.

The place has perfect views and the food quality is good, too!Unfortunately I can t have beer and fly, though I heard rumors it should be amazing.I was almost unable to get mobile internet here (I do have Verizon), and the restaurant doesn t offer WIFI.As an alternative you may buy WIFI in deli 2 minutes away.

Love this spot.. great beers, staff was super friendly, and a dog friendly beer garden / patio to top it off. We had the cauli bites, ceviche, fish and chips, and fish tacos.

The Pilsner is good. The pulled pork fries are also great. The picture here shows fish & chips and 2 drinks. That all costs you almost 50 USD which is not worth the price and actually significantly overpriced. They take advantage of being basically the only place to go for dinner. Be prepared.

AMAZING place!! Great ambiance, super friendly staff, delicious food, great views of the ocean and air strip. We had complications with our AirB&B and had to say here past closing but the staff was great, chatted with us and even gave us free popcorn!!

Food and drinks are great. We usually rave about this place to friends and fellow travelers, but we were really disappointed this past time we went. We brought some friends with us to introduce them to Gyppo. While enjoying our appetizer of fries and some drinks, we decided to go play corn hole and left our purses and belongings to imply that we would be back and that we were not finished with our food. When we got back, the appetizer had been taken and when I mentioned it to the staff, they said that there wasn t any food left in the dish so they took it. However, we had only had maybe 1/4 of it before we got up to go play. I insisted we had quite a bit of food left and they argued and said we didn t so to prevent making a scene, I told them whatever you say and went back to our table. It was really frustrating since the one appetizer cost us $14 plus $3 each for the two sauces we had ($20 total). We were there for at least another hour and we were all pretty surprised and angry that we were not either offered a reimbursement or a remake of the almost full dish that was taken from us. We also weren t checked on again at all. The integrity of this place really took a hit when this happened. Don t trust that your food will be there if someone isn t watching it closely.

Do not recommend coming here. We waited outside with our dogs for about 40 minutes to be seated. We watched other people with dogs go in before us. We finally had to ask what was going on and they explained the buzzers weren t working. Which if that wasn t an obvious lie, why would you not just come seat us. After being seated it took forever to get our drinks and even longer to get our food. When we wanted a fresh round of beers because ours were empty from waiting so long, we had to physically go get the server ourselves, then ask the server where the heck the food was, then find her again for the check. Meanwhile, we saw people who looked local get seated and served before we even got drinks. We were there for 2 hours sitting directly in the sun, most of it waiting and for food that was ok at best. Place looks like it has a nice vibe, but that s all it had going for it. Overpriced, mediocre flavor, and poor customer service. Do yourself a favor and just picnic by the beach if you re road-tripping through town.
