Honestly, I wouldn't recommend going here unless you can't get in anywhere else. Everywhere else had a 2 week waitlist, now I'm not shocked that he didn't have anyone else at the shop. He did the work well, but he tried to tack on more than what I asked for. He didn't ask me if I wanted to do these other things. He just added them onto my bill and said "yeah it's actually going to cost this much" one of the things wasn't even the issue he said it was and when I tried to explain to him that it is another issue, he said, "well if you want to do everything yourself then why did you come to me?" I came to him for 2 specific issues and he said "oh just for those it'll be 600-700." Then after I told him to take off everything he added, it still wasn't 600-700, it was over 1000. He also couldn't explain to me exactly why it wasn't closer to the original amount other than repeating "well I never gave you an estimate for that much" I have a recording of it.In the end, it took longer than expected, he tried very hard to get me to add on things that I didn't want done, he charged more than expected, and he said his new shop has an issue with thieves. I wouldn't trust this place enough to suggest anyone that I know to go there.

I was in town and John was very helping in getting my car diagnosed and helping my son and I get home safely. I ended up towing the car home but I was thankful he diagnosed the problem so I knew it wasn't safe to drive back home with my son. Definitely recommending his shop to my family that lives in town

Went to have a brake and light inspection done. Failed it the first time and they began repairing the issues on the car without asking us for authorization. We made our own repairs and when we went back for a 2nd inspection the woman was incredibly rude to us. When I asked an approximate idea of how long the service might take because I had my two year old with me and he needed lunch and she thought I was rushing them or something. She couldn't seem to give me a concept of how long it would take, was extremely unprofessional with how she replied to me, and told me my son "looked fine". When my husband went to pay the bill he could hear the mechanic calling the woman names and being absolutely awful towards her. She later apologized but told me she spoke to me that way because she had a really busy morning. Lame excuse. I absolutely will NEVER be returning to Evans.Service: Vehicle Inspection

I came into Evans Automotive today (8 October 2020) and I met Sunny Evans. She took such good care of me and even did extra. All I did was come in for a SMOG check but she also went and checked my car for any codes at no charge. She was concerned about my well being and wanted to make sure everything was safe for me to drive. After learning my sister bought tires with no sensors, she suggested I get that fixed along with the cabin air filter for my health. Despite having knee issues, she did all of the bending down and physical work herself... no complaints and no asking for help. She s the type to push through it and get the work done. All throughout having to answer phone calls, taking care of my car, and doing other things, she went out of her way to also have a conversation with me and get to know me. Even from her phone calls with other customers, I could tell she just wanted the best for others. If you need any type of car service done that Evans Automotive offers, I suggest you definitely go to them. I know I ll definitely be going back for any of my needs!

I've been using Evans Automotive for about 3 yrs now. I like that they tell you whats wrong and give a price. They do not add unnecessary anything to your work order. They charge exceptionally reasonable compared to other local mechanics. Friendly small town feel and easy to find being on Hwy 62 in 29 Palms

I see the lady replied to my wife's review with further insults and unprofessional behavior and wished the husband (me) had wrote the review instead, so I shall. I needed a brake and light inspection to register salvage after I was rear ended. Only place that does them around 29 palms is evans so they hold a monopoly of sorts over the service. I failed it for a wheel speed sensor and a couple lights. No big deal. After waiting almost 2 hours it was brought to my attention the mechanic (her husband) replaced the lights without consulting me and was in the process of replacing the sensor. I saw the charge on the receipt for $140 sensor which he was gonna run down to autozone for in MY car not his own same as he did with the lights. I paid for the failed inspection and they let me have the bulbs for free. 1 star for kind gesture. Found a sensor for $20 and made the repair myself but the dash light was still on. Research told me I may need a code tester to reset the system and calibrate the sensor. Had evans do it and found that it was never the sensor at all! They misdiagnosed it and would have had me spend $140 for no reason. Luckily I only spent 20. A while back I had a cracked drum and replaced the drum and bearing myself but missed a magnetic ring that the sensor uses to sense wheel speed. Instead of telling me this they once again ordered a whole new wheel drum assembly. Had they consulted me I would have told them the old drum is still in the trunk. They blamed me saying "that would have been nice to know before we ordered a part from 30 minutes away." He checked my trunk, denied the drum was there, I assured him it was. He looks again "oh here it is" The magnetic ring was on it but said since he already ordered a new one I'd still have to pay for it. I told him that's not my problem just use the old one. He said even if he does he'll still charge me for the labor to be the same price as the drum he ordered. So either way I was paying for the drum. He gave me some BS about the ring being damaged and needing a new one anyway. By this point I'm ready to get my inspects and get my home after 3 hours. My wife and 3yo son needed to go home and eat and the lady told my wife that our son "looks fine" because he wasn't acting up at that moment. When requesting our car back she Passive aggressivly asked my wife if she sees the car up on a hoist and told us we cut in line with all this extra work. I made an appointment for a B&L inspection. If the work cut other customers they could have turned us away with a new appointment. I would have been fine with that. But they gave us the courtesy of spending 3 hours correcting a misdiagnosed sensor while charging me for a wheel drum I didn't need and I was charged for a 2nd inspection which I expected. Dont know why she lied about waiving the 2nd. Then the lady has the audacity to get on the reviews page and reply to my wife's review lying about waiving inspection fees, insulting my ability to repair my own car because I repaired something that their shop misdiagnosed and closed the experience insulting my wife by passive aggressively requesting that the husband write a review instead of "the fooled wife". Also, the mechanic kept speaking very rudely to his wife calling her names and insulting her ability to do her bookkeeping. For all this Evan's Automotive will never have our business and I will never recommend them. I've already told 3 guys asking where i took my car not to go here. I told them this story and steered them away from evans. Unfortunately, only other place for brake and light inspections is woods in yucca. I've looked from 29 to Palm Desert and even the nissan dealer doesn't do B&L inspections. So evans really thinks they can do what they want. My advice. If you need car repair, don't go to evans. For B&L inspec go to woods. It's double what evans charges but the one experience with the polite man on the phone was better then any experience I've had at evans in person or on the phone. Mrs. Evans don't bother replying to this. You'll make yourself look worse.

I highly recommend Evans Automotive. The work they did on my vehicle was excellent and they are great communicators. I got tremendous value because they explained things to me that I did not know about my vehicle. Thank you John for figuring out what was wrong with my Jaguar and fixing it. I had a air intake hose that kept coming lose which caused me to loose power and the check engine light to come on. I took it to the dealer. They just reconnected it and sent me on my way. I heard about Evans Automotive and I called him. When I described what was happening, he told me I probably had a broken motor mount that was the cause. Sure enough, I took it in and that was exactly what was wrong. It cost me a couple hundred dollars and I've never had a problem since. Also, he has serviced my wife's and both my daughters cars, smog, oil change and other repairs and service issues. He has always been honest and knowledgeable about what needed to be done and did it in a timely and affordable manner. I highly recommend Evans Automotive for all vehicle repairs and services.

This place is do messed up. When I went into Evans 2 weeks ago my official compliant was my car overheating. Per... John Evans he told me to leave my car and he will take care of it. I sit here 2 weeks later no car and a broken Hood which was damaged by Mr Evans or his attendance. I don't have a car still and I have no clue what is wrong with it because Mr Evans never got to my car he tells me to go ahead and take it and he still hasn't even looked at it. He put a color of black on top of my car hood instead of the silver that was matching it so he took off my silver hood and he put on a black hood which he didn't even care about that either.

As a first time customer, I was genuinely impressed by the down-to-earth, friendly disposition of John & Sunny Evans. It felt as if they were favorite long-lost relatives who suddenly appeared in front of me holding a plateful of my favorite cookies: John and Sunny are genuine and honest; and that is why I gave them 5 stars - wish I could give them 10 - and why I will continue going to Evans Automotive.

I would Never recommend this place!. The lady that says "This is my business" is one of the rudest unprofessional "business owner" I have had the unfortunate run in with when taking my vehicle to 'her' business to have a highly recommended mechanic (who I made an appointment and drove from Yucca Valley to see and DIDN'T even get to meet) do a diagnostics on my vehicle.

They are kinda mean.The lady kept telling me my van was a '97 when it's a '98 and I've registered it that way for yearsThe man was asked to remove an O2 sensor, I even made an appointment 3 days in advance. When I got there, instead he said he'd need $400 in advance just to diagnose, wanted me to take back the sensor I had and purchase one from him AT TWICE THE PRICEDO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE TO GET RIPPED OFF

My car has been in for 6 weeks and Mr Evans is still playing games. All it was in for was a simple head replacement and he refused and told me he would only do an engine swap. It was supposed to be done 4 weeks ago. Price went from $2,448 to $4,668.

AWFUL PEOPLE. My family went here to get work done on their vehicle and when it comes time to pay they have a bill that has a price that was never discussed and work that was never asked for. And they were describing my sister to other customers as THE COLORED girl.

Had to get certificate on my lights, brakes, etc. for a Salvage Title. Sunny explained everything that had to work on the car in order to get the certificate. She was very helpful and was so nice! Definitely will be taking our cars there for repairs from now on. Thanks, Sunny!

Shouldn't even deserve one star, the most horrible experience I've had and still dealing with issues from them. Started repairs on my car without my permission put in the wrong fuel pump, I now have gas all under my back seat and dripping from underneath my car. They wanted to charge me a total of 630 we paid half brought the car home and found all these problems with it. I wouldnt even think about letting them fix the things they've ruined they will never touch my car again. And I will be getting an attorney

Evans automotive shop gets a 5 star they are the most caring honest people I ever met" owners help me so much been with out car for 3 months my car been at a dealership for 2 months different shops lot of repairs done. I took it to Evans they got my car running excellence service IM so happy..Great customer service highly recommended. Feels good to have transportation again.. The best work AND done for the lowest price. He gets all the stars. John went over and above and I am more than grateful. I was visiting the area when I somehow busted my abnormally expensive oil pan. After calling around my boyfriend found Evans Automotive was the least expensive (by more than $100 with 2 of the 3). I was nervous because the cheapest is rarely the best. John not only got my car done in less than a day and for the quoted price, he also replaced all of my lights that were out (one headlight, one turn signal and one brake light) AND fixed this weird key thing that had been going on for over a year! All without charging me an extra dime. I'm still stunned.

Went somewhere else to get an estamite that was about $875 Came here they gave me an estimate of $297 for the same problem. They were able to get me in last minute, I was driving out of there 3 hours later. He went over everything that he found wrong with my car and gave me each estamite and asked if I wanted it fixed before he touched it. Best service for the best price! Will be coming here for all my car needs.

My kid went in knowing he needed a head gasket, the guy tells him he needs a engine which was going to cost over 6k, mind you my kid is a Marine he pays a diagnosis fee then is turned around saying he needs almost 4k for headgasket and pays addituonal fees for tearing yhe car down and is told to pay t9 yo put it back together and recorded conversation. Get Ready for a report to the BBB anf a law suit. HORRIBLE PEOPLEService: General repairs & maintenance

They charged $731, and sent me on my way. Then my gearhead buddy popped the hood and sees THIS. What in the @%$! were they thinking?! How much cost are they trying to cut by doing this?! I will NEVER bring my vehicle here again.

Just called to get a quote to see how much it would be to fix something on my car. All I asked was a ball park number of how much it would be to get that specific part fixed. I was told how do we know that s the problem well I m asking about how much that part will be if that s the problem because I can literally see that this specific piece is snapped in half. Well fix it yourself go to auto zone and get the part yourself um.... auto zone doesn t carry this part. So that s why I called. I would not give them the time of day. If this is how I am treated on the phone think about how they would treat you in the shop. Or how they would try and take your money because something else is wrong

If I could give these guys lower than one star I would they hung me up for a week over a lousy oil change and then called me up and told me that they don't want to do it. What's up with that. I got an estimate from them guys one time over a year ago but I didn't have them do it maybe they're holding a grudge, go figure.

This place deserves less than one star. They staff are so rude and this place is a total scam. They will do work on your vehicle without authorizing it with you then turn you over a huge bill. STAY AWAY!!!!
