We came here with reservations to stay a couple nights in our tent trailer. The place was a ghost town. No other RVs at the place. They decided to stick us right next to some run down junkie trailer that had somebody living there. That was enough. We packed up and left. Then the following year, i pulled off on the shoulder of the highway in front of this place to show my kids the elk. The old man that works here was out there screaming at anyone who stopped. Said we were trespassing. As if to say, "we own the highway, and you gotta pay to see wildlife." This place is a joke. Trust the negative reviews.

WE LOVE ELK COUNTRY RV! Finding a great place on the California Coast that accommodates a big Class A with reliable 50 amp is not always easy. Elk Country is a well run, clean, organized RV park. The staff is always helpful and friendly. One of the best features is the herd of wild elk that often roams through the park. We woke up one morning, looked out the window and a big bull elk was standing right there. IT WAS AWESOME!!Nearby activities: The beach!!Safety: The park feels safe and secure.Walkability: Walking through the RV is beautiful.Noteworthy details: WILD ELK!!

Worst campground I've ever stayed at. $65 a night to park a 5th wheel, and the wifi didn't work, the change machine was out of service so you couldn't use the laundry, and you had to pay to take a shower. Which coincidentally also required quarters, so I couldn't even take one because I don't carry rolls of quarters with me everywhere I go. Their website was very hard to navigate, it took over a half hour just to get a spot paid for and checked in as no one was on duty. Their paper check in sheets required you to write all your credit card info on a piece of paper and leave it for them??? And to top it off, of course there were no elk around during our stay. Definitely would not recommend staying here, the value is horrible. And if for some reason you have to, better bring a roll of quarters with you.

It's one of my favorite places to visit. There is an RV lot, but I have only stayed in camping sites. Peaceful area, the regular tenants are always friendly on morning walks around camp. Ocean is just a quick drive away. This resort sits between Crescent City and Eureka. Sometimes, herds of Elk can be seen early in the morning lounging around camp. Incredible area, close to many things for family to explore.Safety: I always feel safe here.Noteworthy details: Owners or managers have always been friendly and like to crack jokes!

Good: Great location, beautiful campsites in the woods. The elk came as promised.Bad: Showers and internet are an extra fee. We filled our rv tank at the campsite and then realized the water was brown. It took us two more flushes to get all the sediment out of the tank. Luckily it didn't break our pump.$55 per night

Beautiful campground!!! We stayed in the forest. We were given a different site than we originally books because they thought the door they gave us was nicer and bigger to accommodate our 32' 5th wheel. The property is very well maintained. The calla lilies by the bathroom are beautiful. The facilities we clean. We didn't use the bathroom or showers. The laundry room was nice and had a change machine for convenience. However, we didn't use the laundry because we didn't have anything smaller than a $20. There aren't any signs to let you know how much a load costs so not sure. We would stay here again for sure!!

While the campground itself was beautiful that s about all we can say that s positive. We were charged $55/night for a tent site with electricity and water. They also charge for showers that are timed charges and the temperature control is completely wild so you ll waste a lot of time trying to figure that out while avoiding the moldy shower curtain. Wi-Fi? They charge for that too. Camp store on site is 90% alcohol so no surprise that the place is loud until 11-12 at night. Also you can see the elk other places for free so save your money

I was lucky to found that place during my road trip on US 101. Really nice place to stay there, safe, friendly, perfect location and many more. Fortunately I stayed there on 04 July and it was US National day and they did a nonstop fireworks more than an hour. It was wonderful and unforgettable experience for me .Thanks and RegardsFrom .

Nice simple camp sites.. but the check-in store is only open 10-4. We were told until 6 and mistakenly thought they opened at 8. We stayed until 930 in the morning trying to go in and buy our firewood but they never opened so since it was our only day to explore the Redwoods we gave up and resigned to an early evening. We made it back by 5 pm to find them already closed again. We only got one hike and couldn't get what we wanted from them due to this unfortunate timeframe of being open only during the best part of the day to head up into the park for hikes. Frustrating since there really aren't any other places around to get basics you might need. If you don't have your firewood and wool blankets you will likely not sleep because it gets cold!!! They charge 25 cents per minute for showers. The light in the bathroom is on a 30 seconds timer so if you take too long in the evening and no one else is waking hands you may get stuck in the disorienting dark. They do have laundry machines. A "resident" elk heard passed through our first night but weren't around the second evening.

Warning- beware of an angry unbalanced man of about 80 years old, possibly suffering from PTSD.We were traveling to Crescent City and my friend suggested we pull over at Elk Country RV park for a safe place to stop for a minute so I could get a bottle of water out of the back of the car. She had stayed there before and hoped to show me the elk while we stopped. We were there less than two minutes when a very hostile older man approached me quickly while I was getting the water. He was frightening and accused me of trespassing and told me to leave. We were two women traveling alone and very vulnerable. He didn t appear to have a weapon or any indication that he was even an employee or security guard. Completely bizarre and I probably should have reported him to authorities. I was glad to get away safely and I hope no one else was harmed by him that day.

Great location for access to the Red Woods! Some of the spots are close together which made for a smoky camper on our first night. The fire ring for site #4 is right next to site #3. it could be moved 10-15 ft closer to their camper vs. #4!Nearby activities: Beach is close, Redwoods very accessible from CG.

We enjoyed our stay at Elk Country RV! Our spot was very spacious and quiet. We enjoyed the walk around the lake and being greeted by elk. Elk Country is super close to Redwood National and State Park which made it a bonus! We will definitely be back!

Awesome park. Convenient for your initial adventure into the Redwood Forest. Didn t use the facilities but the front office was nice, the campsite was great and we even had the 30+ herd of elk literally come right through the campsite to graze in the meadow in the park. Doesn t get any cooler than that. That in itself was worth the trip all the way from Florida!

We came in the off season and had a fun experience. The staff was friendly, and the facilities were decent. The elk are they real draw here. They came right through camp and hung out for hours. Cool to view, but they did leave quite a lot of manure behind. There s also a beach just hidden near this park on a small nearby road. Lovely beach, with tons of agates and beautiful rocks for beach combing enjoyment.

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights camping in one of their forest lots. It was beautiful to sleep among the trees. Plus since we came while it was slow we had the whole area practically to ourselves. (Stayed end of August) The staff were very friendly and informative and made sure to let us be aware of our surroundings and rules for if we saw any elk. We didn t have any cellular signal but we didn t need it plus I think it would have taken away from the experience. The bathrooms are nice, the showers are a little rough but we were happy to just have access to one while camping since we had camped at a few national parks that didn t even offer one. Another plus is that they are close to both the beach and multiple redwood national and state parks. I definitely recommend giving this place a stay if you have a chance. :)

The view of the Elk was awesome . You had to put quarters in the shower and only one shower was working. You also had to pay extra if you wanted Internet.Safety: The big red building on the picture had loud music coming out of it and keep put signs all over it?Walkability: There was a big fire pit that was nice

Pretty campground, well maintained. Taking off a star for 2 reasons.1. Because shower/bathroom buildings were unheated, only had cold water, and had quarter-operated showers. If I pay over $60 a night to stay, I don t expect to have to pay for my showers also.2. Wi-Fi is limited to 1 hour/ download amount or you have to pay. While I get the point of being at a national park is not to be on the phone, so many services are Wi-Fi-based now including map services (especially since cell service is very limited in the area)I would suggest fixing these as an update to the management.

Stayed here in a tent for 4 nights. The atmosphere is wonderful. There's plenty of shade. They have a small lake/pond on the property where we saw wild otters. You're 15 minutes from Redwood Park and 5 minutes from a beach by car.The elk on the property are quite the sight to observe from a distance if you appreciate wildlife. The only issues I had are the bathrooms and showers. They needed to be completely cleaned out more frequently. I needed to use the shower because I'd been there for a few days and to the beach. I had to kill 2 spiders before I could use that shower.

We starting visiting Elk Country Rv Park a few years ago......we belong to an Elks RV Group. Now all our friends in the RV group are coming. Beautiful campground and very reasonable priced for the views you get. Now this is the only campground that we visit. We are VERY FORTUNATE to have privately owned campgrounds still operating and sharing such a wonderful place with all the laws and compliance that they must have to follow. Couldn't imagine in this over regulated State of California let alone the drought conditions we are in today. This a lone deserves five stars!!!!!!The staff and their maintenance team keeping things perfect. Bathrooms and showers always clean and if things are not, usually because someone messed it up, just tell the office and they send someone over right away.Thank you to the owners and Staff!!George and Leslie Nerli

Do not stay here. We paid quite a bit for this scenic RV park. The wild elk were awesome to see but that is all that is good about this expensive "resort". Found out that the showers were only usable if you paid for them. For 5 minute shower it cost $3.50. Only 2 shower stalls that were super small. Money machine took only quarters. No change machine in the showers. There was one in the laundry room but it was broken. Hard to park our Class A RV in our assigned spot due to other campsite vehicles. There was a cabin right next to us (6'). And another rental trailer on the other side just as close as the cabin. No picnic table or fire ring. Paid for 2 nights, stayed only 1 night. Would not recommend this over priced "RV Resort". Far from a resort.

Based on a minute's visit, I would NOT stay here nor recommend it to anyone. My family and I had been driving south on 101 after a long camping trip in the Pacific NW. It was a Friday night; we knew the chance of availability was slim, however, we decided to check in and see. I walked in and was curtly greeted by a woman at the front desk. I asked if there was availability for our travel trailer, and she said no. I told her I figured there wouldn't be on a Friday night without reservations, then politely asked if I coud use the restroom. She quietly said, "It's not for public use." I would think that any facility would be happy to accomodate -- we did not drive our trailer into the camp just to use a bathroom-- we were tired and we were looking for a place to stay. Maybe a courteous, "Here's a brochure- come visit us again", or "Sure, our camping restrooms are right out back." I was completely baffled by her rudeness. I will CROSS this campsite off my list, despite what the reviews say.

Two stars because if you're lucky you get to see some elk. The campground however is hardly (or not) maintained. Electrical sockets have parts hanging loose, a neighbor told me that there was no hot water in the showers and the buildings and other structures look pretty bad. And if you're into rules, you'll get a full page of things you're not allowed to do.Furthermore, no wifi, maybe if you're lucky but only for 60 minutes a day and lastly, as someone else stated also, not too friendly at the front desk.

If this was location alone they would get 5 stars, smack in the middle of the state and national parks and close to everything. The people behind the desk in the office aren t super friendly, they have sort of a take it or leave it attitude, the laundry room is pretty rundown and among the most expensive we have seen in our travels and the machines stained all our clothes with rust colored stains. Wifi is basically unusable. But if you re looking for a central spot close to all the parks with hookups, this is likely your best bet.
