Told old Rick that I had 3 new injectors in the motor that were 350 a piece and be good to all of them got it back due to a 9000$ cost to pit back together. Had the heads done at 900 a piece and injectors had been sitting in a bucket of water for 3 months or better. Felt like a personal kick to the throat.

This is one of the oldest and most trustworthy machine shops in San Diego. We've been going there for close to twenty years. I trust these guys completely.

If you are looking for a shop that is loaded with integrity and experience this is it. Rick the owner has been in business for over 50 years and his right hand man George has been there over 40 years.I brought in my 1956 Willys Wagon to get a Chevy 350 put in it. What I came home with was way more than I ever could've dreamed of, and at a great price. There really is not much they can't do. Far as I am concerned this is the best machine shop in the county!!

I really wanted to like this place. Rick is a nice guy, his dog is cool, and I had already had a poor experience at another shop. Unfortunately, I don't think Rick is very involved in the business anymore, and the crew running things now are... questionable.I had an experience very similar to the guy with the 350 SBC. I brought in my junkyard 6.0L LQ9 and told them I wanted them to go through it, inspect it, let me know what it needs, and replace some parts that I provided (cam, springs, oil pump, timing chain, etc.).Many weeks go by, and finally I get a text message that the motor is almost ready to be picked up. Not only did they never communicate with me, give me options, dimensions, or evidence, they punched it out 0.20 over! This was a running, driving engine with under 130k miles on it when pulled. It gets better. Remember when I said it was an LQ9? That is the "High performance" high compression version of GM's 6.0L LS family. The ONLY difference between the LQ9 and the LQ4 (generic truck/van engine) is that the LQ9 has flat-topped pistons, and the LQ4 has dished pistons. Guess what they installed in my newly rebuilt motor? That's right. On top of boring out the motor for no provable reason, they gave me a performance downgrade. I could have handled being told/shown that my block had damage, and then giving me options, but having decisions made for me - poorly - perhaps so they could pump up machining man-hours and parts mark-up ensures that I will never go there again. All of my questions and attempts at communication after I used a boroscope to check my engine were avoided, delayed, or ignored. They might still do great machine work. It may be a perfect shop for having a head job done on a Camry, but if you have a project you care about, be careful with them.

After many years of faithful, hard work, our cleaning machine gave up and broke down.We took it in for service only for the first shop to let us down, extending the time we'd be unable to work. Disappointing and stressful!A friend then referred us to @ricksmachineshopW o w!!! Can't say enough about these guys! They are knowledgeable, honest, and diesel experts %!!!They committed to a deadline in rebuilding my Perkins diesel engine and DELIVERED! As a small business owner this is HUGE!!!Many thanks to Rick, George and Cody for incredible work and getting me back to business!!!#supportsmallbusiness #perkins #diesel #dieselengine #ricksmachineshop

Great guys, they have been around a long time and know what they are doing. First went to them 17 years ago, to rebuild a motor for my dodge ram. Still having them do machine work for hot rods builds

Had George check the cylinder head of my 93 Miata and replace the valve seals. Was slightly warped so they fixed that too . Did the work in the estimated time of 3 days. Drove the car a few hundred miles and it runs fantastic and no longer smokes like an old locomotive.I will be using this shop for all my future machining needs. You can tell these people know what they are doing and George and Rick were very friendly and professional to me as well . Even their dog Spot was nice .

Not recommemded. FML... All the hotrod magazines say to trust your machinist. THINK TWICE!Took a sbc in here trying to get some basic machining done. Never called me after inspection, like they said they would. Wouldn't return my calls, like they said they would. Never knew what was going on with my job and had to scurry around the shop looking under garbage for my parts. Without being instructed to do so they resized rods I only wanted inspected. Lost my pistons, rings, and wrist pins... Never to be seen again... Forgot about my job for 3 weeks. tried to sell me over priced junk replacement pistons... Then on top of all that they claimed the block needed .020 over bore without providing any measurements... and the real kicker was they don't even have torque plates to bore/hone a sbc 350.

Good honest shop. They do recommend you get some parts that are worn out a bit but could work, but that is because they want you to have the best experience possible and while they are in there doing their thing, may as well spend a few extra bucks to make sure everything is perfect. Even with the extras, i had my entire engine rebuilt at a lower cost than any other place was charging.

Outstanding service and price. They helped extract a bolt from the head of my motor as well as grinding out a valve seat for me. They really saved my butt! I would 100 percent reccomend this place. The guys that work here are honest and friendly.

Fast, friendly, and freakin good at what they do. I've been a few times and usually called with questions/requests that are always last minute but time and time again they offer to help. The shop dog is super friendly too!

Disclaimer: **I'm a prior Naval mechanic and didnt have the tools for this at the time**I called and said I had two small holes that I needed drilled and tapped that are 1/8 wide, and a 1/4 deep into an aluminium plate and George said "oh yeah bring it by, we'll take care of you" so I said "how much you generally charge for something like that" and he said "well, we charge 87.50 an hour but if it takes that long for something like that then that would be pretty bad".So I drove 20 minutes and when I got there George acted like it was some huge job and said "it's a $50 minimum". I could tell that he thought I had no clue what went into drilling and tapping out a hole based on the fact that I didn't know the pitch of the threads (there were already identical holes threaded on the peice of metal. All he had to do is match a tap up to it and he'd have the pitch). He wanted to keep the item over night for a job that takes 15-20 mins max (probably more like 5 mins really but I'm being generous). he acted like it was a few hours of work. I told him I'd just go buy a $65 tap and die set.Typical "shop" mantaility; judge the customer to see how much money you think you can screw them out of. Wouldn't trust them with anything.
