Gaspar and his mechanics are honest, fair, and I enjoy coming here. My Dad goes here too. And he advised it was good. We bought a used Honda form them for myself and a used Toyota for my sister. My Dad has this beater of a car but doesn't want to let it go. Somehow they keep it running! A truly honest and fair mechanic. I would not trust my car with anybody else. If honesty, fair prices, and excellent customer service mean something to you - then this is the place for you.

My trusty old GMC truck which I need for work suddenly lost power and broke down on the road last week. Had it towed to Alvarez just before closing time. By the end of the next day it was home with a new fuel pump and running great. Galvan offered me options and stayed late so I could pick it up after work. I am grateful for the speedy and high quality service.

My car recently needed to get a smog check done so I went to this place. I have not been here before. I was able to get an appointment fairly easily and they got the work done. I think the price was reasonable and they did the work in a timely manner. They send the info to the DMV, so once the job was complete I was good to go. I would come back here if I ever needed to get another smog check. The are located on N Milpas across the street from Rusty'sService: Auto emissions testing

I'm so glad I found Alvarez Automotive. After several years of not being able to pass smog, Gaspar actually made the effort to diagnose and replace my car's failing emissions components. Another place wanted to charge me way more to replace the catalytic converters, which I now know wouldn't even have solved the problem!Gaspar is not only a very capable mechanic, but also very pleasant; I sensed his integrity in every interaction. He was very accessible throughout the process; he never rushed our communication, and answered every question I had clearly and patiently. Honest repair shop. No big upsell, they do quality work at a fair price. It sounds simple but not all shops do that. Gaspar and his crew are local hard working people who will help you keep your vehicle in good shape.

I have taken 2 cars for smogs here now and have always had excellent service. Both times I have called they were able to get me in right away. Gaspar and his team are awesome! Super quick in and out smog check

Mr & Mrs Alvarez were a Godsend on Day Two of a long trip up the Coast by going out of their way to fix a serious problem with my Rig on a Friday afternoon, to fix it with the highest standards & at a fair price. Moreover at the end of the work he gave something I have never experienced before; a Worry Free 12 month/12,000 mile Nationwide Coverage Warranty with 24 Hour Roadside Assistance (see pics). These are Good People, doing Good Business at a Good Price in a Sea of Sharks. Thank you!

Truly terrible service. Do not recommend going here. Gaspar tried to scam my partner (female) who brought my vehicle to this service for a smog test. Smog would not pass due to the intake hose on turbo inlet coming loose. All this mechanic had to do was put the hose back on the inlet and clamp it down. A task that requires one flat head screwdriver and would take less than 1 minute. Instead, he tried insisting on selling my partner the entire intake and informing her the smog won t pass unless she purchases this part and has him install it for her. After it wouldn t pass, he still charged us for his service . As a mechanic myself, I found Gaspar to be completely unprofessional with his unwillingness to tighten a hose clamp so the car could pass smog, and yet he made sure to still take our money from us. Please do your take your car elsewhere, this kind of mechanic is the reason so many mechanics get a bad reputation. This man is only out to take advantage of your lack of knowledge and pocket your money

Loved it! So fast to get in and get smog test done- worth the couple extra dollars! Very personable staff and he got my smog test results to DMV online immediately after test was done.

The only honest mechanic I ve found in town. Mr. Alvarez used run the mechanics shop at the Ford dealership, then decided to go into business for himself. He is organized and fast to fix only what is necessary, and I have found him to be knowledgeable on all types of vehicles. My family and friends have been using him for almost a decade and no one has been stranded on the side of the road yet...! (and I drive the 154 almost daily.)

Great service, very courteous, honest estimates and timely delivery. Every time. I've been coming to Alvarez Automotive for years and can't say enough good things about them. I wouldn't trust my car to just anyone.

I recently put a bad review but upon more investigation, I found out that Alvarez Automotive is doing their best to work with customers. The providers of the parts he requests are not always legit which puts him in a challenging situation. He seems to be honest and working to do what's best.

Excellent. I dropped in unscheduled they found the problem and fixed it. Not only that they also noticed loose belts and fixed that too for no extra charge.

I have tried many mechanics in my 35 years in SB and finally found one that I now call "my" mechanic as of a couple of years ago - Gaspar is easy to deal with. I have no complaints.

I have taken my car there several times the owner is very friendly and in my opinion honest. He is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I will continue to take my vehicle to Alvarez automotive.
