I've been going to ARS for over a decade. The owner, Iyer, is hard working and doesgreat work. With all the mechanics I've ever used, his bills are usually LOWER than what I was expecting. He's good & he's busy!Appointments preferred, but not required if you're willing to wait or can drop it off.He also does smog & DMV registrations.Look for the blue sign just past the U-Haul.

Highly Recommended!!Hands down, this is by far the most superior auto shop in the North Bay.They are honest, efficient, and have excellent prices. No one enjoys having to bring their car to a shop when things go wrong, especially the anxieties of paying for a mechanic to fix those problems, if they can at all .And that is something I ll never have to be concern with again , because I ll never bring my car anywhere else againAuto Repair Specialist ; thank you so much , you guys are the best!

My experience with AAA repair center in San Rafael was great! Jason was very accommodating and I appreciated his thoroughness. Very nice experience. I was on the fence about buying a membership, because I do have roadside assistance through my insurance, but after my experience, I ve decided to get that membership.

I took my 1984 Mazda in for a smog check, and the owner spent a very long time trying to get it to pass. There was a problem with the engine rpm matching the computer. Although he was unsuccessful, and lost several phone calls/business in the process, he was patient and courteous, explaining what had happened.Service: Auto emissions testingService: Auto emissions testing

Smog tested my 2007 Jeep this morning after being recommended by my boyfriend whose family has used them for years. This was SO easy, comfortable, and CRAZY AFFORDABLE. Was told up front that it would cost $62 to smog (SUCH a good price) and was ready to go in less than 20 minutes. Another place in the Bay Area recently charged my father $200 for the same thing!! Really nice folks and would absolutely recommend to everyone in the whole Bay Area.Service: Auto emissions testing

We brought a car in for smog testing and since the battery was dead it was not ready for testing. They told us to drive it and bring it back to test. They didn't tell us they would charge us againI called the number provided below and was not provided any additional resolution to their initial miscommunication.

Auto repair specialist conducted a pre-purchase inspection on a car in 2020. The report said the car was in great condition, only the windshield wiper need to be replaced. A few weeks later we found that the car had huge rust wholes, the transmission was just patched with putty, etc. etc.Likely, the seller knew the mechanic and together they forged a fraudulent pre-inspection report.When I called them over the phone no help or anything was offered.Stay as far away as you can from this place.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

Ove it here. Always.more then satisfied when leave here. The owner and his wife. Are the best. Had serviced my car today. And was told they noticed had nails n tire. Which I had been noticing low air n tire. Fixed my tire . Now that's Safty and Above Quality. Service . Which is also why I still keep coming back.

My dad and I have been using this shop for the last two years or so. When my engine started to leak oil, we brought it in and paid over $1000 to get the problem fixed. When we picked it up, they told my dad that there wouldn't be anymore leaking. Well, that turned out to be completely false. We still saw oil leakage, and so we took it back and asked them to see what the issue was. After a three minute glace at the car, they said "oh it's probably an O-ring". We then leave the car there for a full day so it can be replaced. This afternoon, we go to pick up the car. Everything looks fine from the outside, but once my dad hit the road something was clearly wrong with the vehicle. The suspension is completely out of wack. So my dad calls them back up and they refuse to test drive it or help us any further - and keep in mind this is less than 30 minutes after we picked it up for the second time. If you value good customer service, do no go here. They took our time and money with no intention of making things right. My dad and I have lived in San Rafael for over 15 years and have never come across such a horrible auto shop experience. Even as I write this, I know nothing is going to be fixed for me but I hope it will save another person some money.Service: Engine repair

New engine and head, done here from previous owner of a van I purchased timing belt went after 1 year, < 2k miles, attempted to call them to let them know about the work that was done and was completely blown off. Now head gasket blows after 5k.Idk how they have over 4 starts but the work that was done on the van cost the previous owner over 5,000$ and I m now worried about everything that they may have touched.Zero stars

Piled on inches of bindi till it cracked and fell out. Wouldn t warranty their own work. Took auto body in community college over two decades ago and knew that amount of bondo was impossible to use. Bunch of inbredsSorry wrong shop. These guys are great

I had my rear brakes replaced. The brakes are now making noise that they had not before, which is a serious matter. Additionally, the emergency brake is out of adjustment now. After calling and speaking to a very trite woman the remedy is to spend $95 more and also pay to replace the drums, which I've already paid to have them machined. When I called and spoke to them, and stated my concerns, they hung up on me. I think this business needs to learn about courtesy, professionalism, and guarantee their workmanship. Be very careful dealing with this business.Note: in lieu of the owner's response here July 2021 to call them a year later for my complaintAfter calling them in July of 2021 at the owner's recommendation here.They never called me back! Took car in for oil change and ask for a look at my brakes. Diagnosis was for front rotors repair and they took care of it right away. The brakes are 100 percent better! Just moved back to SR after a few decades away and went to Auto Specialist for a smog. Needed full service shop just in case Mini didn't pass. Smog service was reasonably priced, was done in record time and (whew) passed. Staff super friendly and service was top notch.
