While we could not complete our repairs at AAMCO (we have an older vehicle), the diagnostic work was very thorough and informative. I appreciate Shannon s and Chris outstanding customer service. They were both straightforward and professional. Thank you.

Transmission failed during road trip and luckily made it here. Shannon was super accommodating, found place to park motorcycle trailer and gave us good recommendations for lodging and local places. After a few moments with Shannon we knew we were in good hands.Wife will make another review after we make it back on the road.

Before heading off on a 10,000 mile road trip to Alaska, the Yukon, BC, and NWT, I took my 34 year old 1989 Dodge Ram Roadtrek conversion campervan to AAMCO for a roadworthiness check. Given that at least 1,500 mile would be on dirt on the Dempster Hwy and Top of the World Hwy, Shannon recommended some major repairs and upgrades to the front end. I gave the OK, and dropped some $6,000 onto it. It was finished the day before I left, so I had no chance for a shake down cruise first but just hit the road. The road trip was fantastic with no major problems, but on the way home after heavy rain in Oregan, I started to hear creaks and sqwarks at low speed, turning hard left or right. It still tracked nicely on the highway, so I pushed on home.On arrival home, I booked it back in, and Shannon did a post-trip check-up, and found the adjustment for the Camber was not fully tight. I'd had the front end alignment checked in Washington on the way up after the first 1,000 miles, at Les Scheab, and they had adjusted the camber, but itseemed to have started working loose over the next 8,000 miles.Shannon had his staff re-tourque it to specifications and did not charge for the inspection or the re-tourquing.Much appreciated.

I love this place. Shannon is a glorious human and makes car-related errands enjoyable. And Roberto (I think was his name) did a great job on making sure my car is running smoothly.

Wow I ve never been so happy with a car shop. It s always a hassle , but not with Shannon! Easy going , smooth process. Cannot say enough about the service and quality of this AAMCO location. I trust everything Shannon says , and won t be going anywhere else. I ve had my transmission rebuilt, among many leaks and other fixes , solved and repaired. 10 outta 10 . Rare to say that about any car placeServices: Transmission, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

Shanko is a good straight-forward shop. They will listen to your concerns and not try to upsell on anything you don't need. Go see them for your general maintenance needs too.

I brought my van into this AAMCO in Dec 2019 with a failing rear-differential. Shannon (co-owner) and company made us feel at home during the three day repair. The shop could not find the original parts (although I was able to find them online just fine) so sold us on a posi-traction rear end rebuild which costed $1000 more than the original bill... now a total of nearly $3400.Three days later (we stayed in a hotel as we were traveling through the area) we were fixed up and ready to get back on the road. We made it to the Mojave National Preserve where the rear end failed again (seven days after the repair) this time 80 miles from the nearest AAMCO. We had to rent a U-Haul truck and trailer to get my van into Las Vegas where the only AAMCO willing to take warranty work got us in.Yes, it turns out that the "warranty" is completely up to each shop if they want to honor it or not.First thing the new shop said to me was, "you didn't pay that much to San Rafael AAMCO did you?" They knew we got ripped off. Add to it that the repair lasted only seven days. Granted, Shannon at San Rafael did honor the warranty so the re-repair work began.Yes, the original shop can decide NOT to honor the warranty of they wish...It was about here that we found that San Rafael AAMCO who charged us the $1400 deposit at the start of the work, charged us the full amount at the end of the work. Effectively, we paid an additional $1400 on top of the over-priced repair that didn't last a week. It took three phone calls over a week to get that amount refunded. Each time I called they promised to look into it and call me back, but failed to call me back each time. The re-repair work took another 3.5 weeks (!!!) due to the Las Vegas shop being stuck (thanks to said warranty) into replacing the posi-traction parts with the same parts, which broke again only 20 miles after they repaired us the second time. They tried again, and the van didn't even leave the shop. Finally, after nearly a month and a half... and THREE failed repairs, we had a junk-yard rear-end installed under our van for $600.I called and talked to Shannon trying to be fair to him, but was met with excuses and eventually he just stopped calling me back. AAMCO San Rafael refused to refund even a partial amount so I was forced to file a claim with my credit card to get my refund. Which I got all $3400 back,In the end AAMCO San Rafael's poor workmanship caused a month delay to my road-trip-vacation, refused to offer even a partial refund, and now I have a junk yard rear-end, and the warranty I paid for is void as well. Even though I got the original amount back, I still lost another $4000+ on towing and hotel costs thanks to Shannon and his employees at San Rafael AAMCO. No way I would wish this shop onto my worst of enemiesShannon, you wanted me to post a review (asking me repeatedly to review your shop on Google) so here it is. I hope that you will learn from your loss here. You should have just worked with me on a fair refund amount. Your arrogance cost you thousands more and I will be sure to post this exact review on Yelp and other review sites too, which will cost you many thousands more.

Had the best experience here; Shanon is very communicative, personable, and knowledgeable. They provided a full multi-point car inspection on my second hand Fiat and I feel much safer about driving it. I ll definitely be back for ongoing maintenance and/or repairs. Highly, highly recommend!!!

Shannon was very intelligent and thorough! He let me know what was going on with my transmission and helped me understand all of the components. With a pressing time limit, I needed it done as soon as possible and he stayed late to fix everything in half the predicted time. Will definitely go back !Will C.Service: Transmission

Aamco Transmissions in San Rafael was a huge disappointment. I had my 2008 Suburban worked on here in 2017 and had a good experience. In December the Suburban broke down again with all indications it was the transmission. Shannon was kind enough to take my call on a Saturday and I arranged to get the vehicle towed there to be repaired. Long story short, my car sat there for weeks while Shannon insisted the differential was the problem after a $200+ evaluation. After excuses about parts not being available, shortage of mechanics, not having proper tools to complete the job and more delays that went on for weeks I finally found another repair shop that insisted they could fix my Suburban. Once towed to the other repair facility it did take ten days (mostly due to shipping a rebuilt transmission interstate) to replace the transmission but in the meantime the mechanics were communicative and professional letting me know every step.Shannon at Aamco is cordial but he accepted my vehicle for repairs and did nothing, misdiagnosed my car problems and charged me for his expertise , delayed me in getting my vehicle fixed and in the process cost me hundreds more to tow it away to be looked after elsewhere.Years ago this may have been the place to have service done but today this Aamco Transmission business is a huge disappointment and I would warn others to go elsewhere.

SHANNON is the BEST. He is very informative and speaks very clear and intelligible. Shannon made the process of bringing my car in, a walk in the park. I will recommend Shannon's shop for anyone with car issues and will come back in the future.

Shannon, Tyler, Daniel, and Christian all have helped me out tremendously when I recently needed help with my break light - They caught a problem and gave me a solution to fix it, which not many service and repairmen I have interacted with elsewhere. I have been getting my vehicle serviced with Shannon and Mac for last five years, best team there is. I recommend them to everyone I know who is seeking honest, experienced, and knowledgeable service. Can't say enough good things about Shannon, Mac and team. I've been taken advantage of by so many other mechanics over the years, not here. They've always taken care of me. They feel more like family than my mechanics and that's how they treat all their clientele. Highly recommend.Services: Transmission, Air & cabin filter replacement, Exhaust, Steering & suspension repair, Auto engine diagnostic, Brakes, Oil change

Unfortunately, the work I had done came at the same time AAMCO was changing owners. There was a miscommunication resulting in a problem. Shannon Wong, the new owner worked with me to resolve my issue. He handled it in a professional manner that shows he cares and hopefully we both learned something. No hard feelings, Shannon. I hope your new business is a successful one.Ron WilsonServices: Transmission, Brakes
