15/10. Gary was able to squeeze me in for a quick tire plug even though they were very busy. Great customer service and they did a perfect job on my tire. Couldn t be happier

I m not one to post reviews, but I have to for Emerald. This garage was recommended to me by a friend who is a SF Local. I went to Gary when I got my catalytic converter stolen. Twice. He s straight forward, honest and doesn t gouge you. He doesn t try and sell you on other services or smooth talk you.

It's never a good idea to not return a potential customer's phone calls, especially when they're interested in your services, but they also know that they could easily go to another auto shop, which I did! A company not returning a person's calls is a sign that they don't want your business!

Great, talented and honest mechanic, thank you Garry. My car engine started humming and the sound got worse when I steered the wheel, and I knew it was minor or at least any talented mechanic can listen and figure out the issue and possibly bring it in for a repair. I went to 5 top shops between Hays valley area and sunset area, they all wanted to schedule diagnostic for $150. Garry was the only one who from the minute I parked at his garage, he said, steer your wheel, open the hood, let s add oil and see, and boom problem solved complementary (at no cost), in 5 minutes. Definitely Garry will be my long lasting Mechanic from now on. And luckily, I live only a few blocks away. That is customer care at its finest. Thank you Garry!

Had a flat tire and a tough time finding a place willing to take an appointment on short notice and at a reasonable price - just for a tire plug. After calling literally a dozen shops in the city, none were more accommodating, easy to deal with, and had fairer prices than here. Gary is a knowledgeable and honest technician/business owner. He took a look at my car right away, even with having a dozen or so other cars in the docket to service, since it was a quick job and I was late for work. Ended up that I need a whole new tire, and he didn't charge me but gave me some helpful advice. Would highly recommend Gary & his business for anyone looking for good car work at a fair price in SF.Services: Tires, General repairs & maintenance

Had great experiences here. I have been taking my car here for a few years now. When my mom drove accross the country last year with a visit planned in SF en route, a check engine light came on a couple hours out of sf. My car sprung a coolant leak on New Years Eve morning. Really bad timing as we planned on driving the car to the mountains the following Tuesday. I called several auto repair shops and only got voicemails. Until I got a call back from Emerald's owner Gary about 10 minutes later. He said bring it in and they'd take a look. Gary and his staff not only diagnosed the broken part, but had it delivered and fixed by 3 pm the same day. And, the cost for this exceptional service was very reasonable. I am impressed, grateful, and very happy to have found this establishment. I will return and I urge anyone to give them a try.Service: General repairs & maintenance

Through no fault of my own I ve had to visit emerald auto three times in the pay month. Each time they are direct, courteous, budget friendly and super fast. They re my go to store for AC problems, tire issues and beyond. Many thanks to Gary and the team. You rock!

Gary is probably the best mechanic in the city, honest, reasonably priced, and good at explaining what's going on with your car. Would definitely recommend even if he's not the closest mechanic to where you live.

Can't recommend the work of Gary enough! He's very open and honest about your car needs and always hits deadlines. I've had numerous things taken care of here over the years - most recently brakes, tire rotation, and and oil change. Gary often throws in some free items - like fixing nail punctures in tires. They get busy - so call ahead to get an appointment. I haven't had to wait more than a couple days - well worth the wait.Can't put a price on an honest and reliable repair shop!Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Brakes, Oil change

I have great things to say about the service i received at emerald auto. I called on Tuesday morning and got their voicemail they called me back later that day and had me an appointment for 8am the next morning. My brakes were starting to grind on the rotors and were in a bad way so I needed the first slot that they had. I talked with the service writer Gary who was great. He didn't try to upsell me like so many other service writers do. I dropped my truck off at 8 and they had it ready by 2pm. They changed out the front rotors and brakes and all for a great price. I think I've found my new Go-to garage. I highly recommend this place.

I stopped today because I got a check engine light on while I was on my way to work. They checked my car within minutes and they were able to figure out the issue. I really appreciate their help, especially when something unexpected like what I experienced today happens.

Gary is amazing! You almost don't want people to find out about it, but its also really difficult to find an amazing mechanic that you trust with your car.He has the best Auto Shop I've ever been to, and the most fair prices. He never suggests doing anything unless its necessary and his costs are MUCH cheaper than any dealership.He's usually really busy and is shuffling cars ( imagine owning an auto shop with no parking in SF) but he's always listening and keeping all his cars taken care of at all times.I'm so lucky I found this place ( and its 3 blocks from my house)

Gary is great. Always got my F-150 oil changed here. One time, I parked my truck on a downhill and the tank was a lot lower than I thought it was. The gas wouldn't pump to the engine when I tried to start it. Gary loaned me a gas can and a funnel so I could get to the gas station and refill my truck. A hectic morning, but Gary helped me get my truck started. I'm moving to Oakland now and I will miss having Gary as a reliable neighborhood mechanic.

Emerald Auto Repair is located in the Inner Sunset and conveniently located to where I live. Shortly after moving to the city two and a half years ago, I began going to Emerald and had always received fair, honest and timely work done to my vehicle. That is why I've chosen to give 3 stars. However, I stopped going about six to eight months ago due to the customer service. The owner Gary is hard to communicate with and gives little input or feedback regarding the services... he is often short with you and irritable as he is short staffed and backed up with work and it shows in his demeanor towards the customer.Often times I've even waited unattended in the shop lobby for as many as 15-20 minutes before being greeted or helped. As a business owner myself, I believe customer service and satisfaction is the number one priority.Feeling little appreciation for my business here, I've decided to go to Daly City Auto Repair where I've been more than satisfied and have been happy to be a repeat customer. If your looking to take your car in to Emerald, come for the vehicle service, not the customer service.

Brake replacement is quick and price reasonable at this place. However front brake replaced here last just 10k miles while my original brake lasted 85k. Very cheap brake part being used

Gary is the best ! Bar none.My older Honda had a problem w/ overheating - I feared the worst and put off repairing for fear of what I thought was wrong. Finally had to take in.Next day when I picked it up, he explained he did some "adjustments"and it wasn't overheating anymore !!! Blew me away. didn't cost a 10th of what I thought it might!Honest, Explains, and very Knowledgeable ! Doesn't get better!

Absolutely trustworthy. Fair prices for both quick and simple services as well as more involved repairs. Garry s family s been here for generations and it s simply the only shop into which I ll take my two cars.

Gary is great and they always have a quick turnaround time. You have to make an appointment in advance but they usually complete a small repair within the same day. Very affordable service and easily accessible for public transportation using the N Judah.

Not having to worry about an auto mechanic s business ethics is priceless. I ve been using Emerald Auto since the 80 s as Garry runs an honest business. Over the years he s repaired and maintained my cars without once up selling and taking advantage.

Until I moved to the Inner Sunset all my experiences with auto shops were nasty.....greasy guys who I'm sure have experience with arson...dirty shops with feral cats & dogs...and an air of macho felon that gave weight to any conversation.Seriously, every time I took a car to a mechanic for a splinter I would hear 'sorry dude....bad news....need a new blah, blah, blah...' or 'you really ought to replace blah, blah, blah...' or the classic 'Did you know that...blah, blah, blah...'Surrounded by exhaust fumes and cigarette exhales all I could hear was 'If you don't spend the money and fix this very unnecessary repair you will find yourself careening off a highway killing yourself and everyone you love in the car!'So in the end I would get ripped off, pay a high price for service that was not needed and would suspect as I was handing over my credit card that I was indeed getting screwed with no dinner, flowers or promises.This does not happen at Emerald.If you want one thing from your mechanic besides his bank account it's honesty. You get it.I've got two cars and each of them has had issues but Emerald does what you expect: they fix what is wrong with your car...they actually tell you what is wrong and they fix it.....and quickly.No BS, no sales pitch and you won't be thinking: 'I just got had.'Gary is the best - fast, speaks English - not car-jibberish and is.....honest.This review is one of those things when one doesn't want to spread the word about a good thing and create customer competition. But I think integrity needs to be lauded.Emerald is awesome
