Finally after my third try to find a place in San Diego to service my 1998 MB SLK 230, I have found it at the Mercury St shop. I will always take it here. Ist visit they found the problem with the hard top not going down & that pesky check engine light. They charged a reasonable rate and did not recommend any unnecessary repairs. With an older car like this, other shops would recommend $1000+ repairs without telling me how urgent it was. Underground Autowerks is kinda like my dentist... for some things it is safe to watch them for awhile and not repair everything at the first sign of wear.Services: Electrical repair, Auto exhaust system repair, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Vehicle Inspection, Oil change

This shop is top notch. Tim and his crew are extremely talented in finding out complicated car performance issues.Great pricing and they don't hold your car for weeks like other shops.I went to several shops before undergoing and I'm so thankful I've now found my shop to go to for my '79 Volvo!

Amazing experience from start to finish! Tim listened to my concerns, gave an honest diagnosis and took the time to explain everything in great detail. This was the third shop I brought my car to for the same issue and Underground came in about $600 less than the other quotes I had received. This will be the only shop I deal with moving forward. I friend recommended this place to me after I mentioned needing some work done on my son's SUV and I'm so glad to have finally found a solid auto repair shop!I was really in need of finding an honest and fair shop, because unfortunately that is a bit hard to come across these days. I had taken my cars to other places in the past but I most always left feeling that I had overpaid and possibly for repairs that weren't quite necessary.My experience with the owner Tim and his crew proved to be spectacular!The SUV I took in had one major problem that was identified right away by Tim and he quickly got me in. I left the SUV with him and a couple of hours later he called me to discuss other findings and give me some options.I work in the Kearny Mesa area so I was able to come down a take a look with him. In a nutshell, there were other things that needed attention and instead of Tim just pressuring me to spend more money, he took the time to break down, the actual severity of the other repairs and sort of gave me a plan of action that I could follow when I could afford to spend money on them.That's just something special that you don't find in many auto repair shops and it blew me away.Since then, he takes care of all my vehicles and I when the work is done, I never leave with a bad taste in my mouth. Brought my Mercedes in for an inspection & they brought a few items to my attention & also replaced the hydraulic pump for the convertible. Excellent work.

An honest mechanic is like an honest lawyer - VERY rare. The guys at Underground Autowerks have always been exceptionally upright with me, and have always done everything they can to get the job done professionally and at minimal cost. I have been going to this mechanic for years and have recommended all of my friends and family members to them. Without exception, their experience has been the same. Stopped by this shop while on a small getaway due to my car having a issue that it was shaking. Tim helped me out and informed me that my car was low on oil and needed an oil change. I was relived that it was such a small fix because I had to drive back to LA the next day. Tim I want to thank you for being honest because you could have told me it was something much bigger and I would ve believed you. I was gone within 30 minutes. Took my 2001 Mercedes SLK to this company it has an issuse staying started and retaining power after a couple of hours of being on. He charges me to replace one part to fix the issuse. Which it didn't and I took the car back Tim the ower who says he don't have time to fixed right now. So I took the car back a week later per his request and was still unable to leave the car. I waited a month before taking the car back to Tim and he refused to take the car to figure out the issue. I can't work with people who takes your money and puts it in the trash.

I've taken all of my cars to Underground Autowerks for years. They're the BEST!! They treat me like family and have never steered me wrong. My Vario roof was not working when I bought this SLK32 AMG. I brought it to Tim who was recommended by Jims apuhlstery. Tim quoted me $125 /Hr for diagnostic,with 1 Hr labor included. He called me a nd said some parts(switches �2) were needed and he could have them tomorrow installed for $240. I agreed to this estimate and waited for his call. When he called the next day he said the parts were installed,but it still did not work. He said more diagnostic was nessacary,but I already paid for diagnostic and he would call on Monday. An hour passed when he called and said he had fixed it,bring $400.00! When I picked up my car I was given a receipt listing two switches,$58 each, no part number or other identifying information. The top was up. When I got home I wanted to put the top down,but it would not work, so I returned to the shop.Tim was not there but a younger mechanic was eager to help. I told him I had just purchased the car and had never operated the top. He said put it in park, I said check as I did so. He said push the red button forwards. I said check as I did so. There was a loud crunching sound snd he said stop stop.back up the top. I reversed the button and raised the top. I took the car home,and waited until Monday morning when Tim was there. He removed the damaged shelf, and said he would install one after I purchased it. He said he did not work on the shelf! I asked if he had raised and lowered the top before he called me, he said he did. He did not say he would install it for free....i do not understand how he could have lowered the top when it mechanicly did not clear the shelf.no matter who moved the button, it did not work and broke the shelf.He also cut wires that went to another unrelated system,the locking/alarm system which worked. I later found that he did not replace the switches,instead cut and bypassed by twisting the wires and putting electrical tape on them! He hacked my wiring by jumping the power from the cut locking system wire to the relay for the top. After I went and bought the $700.00 shelf, I installed it myself and it got hung up on the top,after working on it for three days I noticed a bent bracket and even after bending it back I had to trim the plastic underliner to get clearance for the top to raise and lower without me holding it out of the way. The top quit working three days later, the jumper wires were not secure and shorted out the fuse and relay. I could have got better work and service in tijuana.Tim has destroyed my SLK 32 AMG and refuses to correct his damages. The electrical back feed has now fried my ECU computer and my F40 relays. Over $2000 in parts alone from damage caused by his shoddy work. I have contacted the automotive B A R for investigation. My car sits not running with the top down,getting more damage by the elements daily.it has been over a month and I have not heard a word from anyone.I am hiring an attorney to sue for replacement of my car.

This place was referred by Jim s Upholostry to get the top fixed on my bmw 1991 325i but when I called the first time they told me to get an appointment and than being in the car so today when I was ready to make the appointment I called and the guy said let me get your number and I will call you back instead of making the appointment than left me a message that they only will work on 2000 or newer car how they said no problem the first time I told them the car the year and they said no problem make an appointment I wouldn t use this place ever again on any car I have. Hay Jim Upholostry maybe it s best you don t refer them or yourself not impressed

These guys took care of me at a really reasonable rate. Felt like they really cared and wanted to get me back up and running, not just get me back out the door. Will definitely be back if I need any further work.
