Long story short this will be my new car shop to go.After driving over a pothole coming out of UCSD (iykyk) my dash started showing trac off and soon after check engine light turned on (2013 Lexus RX350 w/137k), the next day I came here because FREE CHECK UP on what the problem was. Know that other places and my old auto shop all said they would NEED their mechanic to do an inspection which would have costed $160+ just for the inspection. Today I brought my car in, they quickly isolated the problem, which is old solenoid needing repair (causing timing problem that misfired trac off and check engine warning) but the mechanic managed to fix it by revving the engine couple times. Then they very honestly told me since it s old issues it s not emergency to get it fixed asap, but they gave a quota of $624 for parts and labor (approx 3 1/2 hours) if I do want to have it replaced.

Very honest, my truck broke down and I was told by another mechanic the fuel pump had to be replaced, brought it here instead and not true. One of the sparkplugs was misfiring. Easily could have charged me more and didn't. We need more places with people like this.

PHENOMENAL! Absolutely phenomenal. The work they have done has always been great. Their prices have always been fair. But I was blown away today:I went in to replace my timing belt and water pump at 140,000 miles since I never remembered replacing it. They called me and said they just opened it up to look at it and it had been replaced recently, so no need to replace it.How cool is that!

Found these guys through a quick google search and decided to take a leap of faith and literally tow my badly damaged 2019 vw Jetta. After suffering a financial loss of not having full coverage insurance, I took it upon myself to order all vw certified parts & bring to them for repair as funds permitted.Needless to say, these guys were soooo patient, empathetic, and had the most reasonable prices for their hard work. I mean these guys REALLY care about their customer service & communication throughout the process. Although I may have been difficult to deal with sometimes as they were eager to repair sooner than later . I m so so grateful for their help during such a traumatic and difficult time for me.I highly recommend this business for their consistent and honest work. You can thank me later for this recommendation 5/5 stars all the way

Man, I'm having a really hard time not giving one star but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.I called in three days ahead of time scheduling a brake pad replacement at 11 am. Once I arrived, I was told they were waiting for rotors to arrive and it would take until around 3pm for service to be done. (As far I can tell the rotors are fine, but I decided to trust them since it wouldn't take THAT much longer. Better to be safe than sorry.)I return at 3pm, the parts did not arrive and there's a chance no service can be performed due to lack of parts. I ended up returning at the end of the day with no service performed. I understand that suppliers can be difficult but man, I called in three days ahead with no mention of rotors and ended up losing a whole day.I'm hoping that this was just a freak accident where the supplier's truck got hit by a ballistic missile, multiple times over multiple days.Service: Auto brake repair

Absolutely amazing service! I had my car checked up at Mossy Nissan for some rattling noise and Nissan wanted to charge me a fortune. I took my car to MR Auto SD for the same problem and they found it was just some rusted pieces in the pipe. They only charged the inspection fee! Very knowledgeable and honest service

Mr. Auto is truly an excellent shop for general car maintenance. I first took my car here for a purchase inspection & have had multiple services done here since. They never fail to be consistent, professional, expedient, & very reasonably priced. I consider this my go-to mechanic & don t take my car elsewhere unless they don t provide a specific service.Services: Electrical repair, General repairs & maintenance, Electrical, Vehicle Inspection, Vehicle safety inspection

These guys were fantastic. VW Kearny Mesa quoted the job at $495. These guys offered to fix the problem for $310, and when it required less labor than they expected, only charged me $250. They were done in under an hour and also refilled my fluids for free. Honest and communicative. Will come back for future work!

TL;DR The absolute worst customer service interaction I have ever had. Extremely unprofessional and rude treatment from the manager Hao.*I waited a week in hopes that the owner would contact me with some resolution. Unfortunately he did not, although I was told that he had been emailed about the situation by one of his employees. I also want to note that once I started to feel uncomfortable, I began recording this interaction, about 10 minutes of video.*My car died, so I had my car towed to MR Auto. Prior to showing up, I called in to describe what was going on; I was told it was likely a problem with my alternator. When I arrived I was checked in by Hao, who I remember being the manager from the last time I was there. First thing he did was give me an estimate to sign for replacing the alternator. I asked what if it wasn t the alternator, because they had not diagnosed it in-person yet. Hao said they would test it first and to just sign anyway. I said ok.When they got my car off the tow truck, Hao came back to tell me it s probably just the battery. I asked if he could explain, as opposed to it being the alternator. He said you told me you have a new battery right? My first response was no, I don t think I said that. He strongly insisted, and while not impossible, I tried to assure him I did not know when the battery was from. He was very persistent so I gave in to his position and said maybe I did say something like that? He said see yeah you told me it was new. Throughout those 2-3 questions I asked, Hao grew visibly irritated, and I couldn t understand why he was getting angry. I wanted to clarify about the battery vs the alternator so that I could have an idea of how time-consuming/costly (or not) the repair might be. At this point, he s fed up and abruptly ends the conversation by saying we ll test it and call you, goodbye, and slamming the partition closed before I can say anything else.If he had let me respond, I would ve told him I would wait in the lobby while they tested my car, which I did. After waiting a little while, Hao comes back saying, your battery is five years old, you gave me the wrong information. His tone is already hostile, so I give a very neutral response in order to avoid triggering him further. I say ok that s alright then. He gives me the quote to replace the battery and I say it s all good. Then I ask him, may I please have your owner s phone number? This is the breaking point for Hao. He goes off, so why do you want to complain about me? I already answered your questions, You shouldn t have gave me the wrong information. He says that he can t give me the owner s phone number.I tell him that I don t think this customer service interaction was right and the way he acted was very unprofessional.Hao replies with, why do you want to talk to the owner, okaaay I see the problem, and I see so it s an attitude thing huh. Since our conversation wasn t going anywhere productive, I ask if I can speak to anybody else there for some help.Another mechanic, Huy, comes in, and asks me what s going on. Huy was very understanding as I explained everything. I ask Huy to please have the owner contact me, as I couldn t get confirmation from Hao. Huy says he will, and he helps finish taking care of my car.The way that Hao behaved that day was unacceptable and truly mind-boggling. Everybody has off days, but as a manager he should know better. It s not the customer s responsibility to tip-toe around an employee/manager who has no patience for several questions. I cannot emphasize enough what a terrible experience it was and I wish I could ve gotten out of there sooner, if only it weren t for my car already being towed here.

Took my WRX in to get walnut blasted. They showed me before and after photos and the difference is very noticeable in both performance and what was found and cleaned off the valves. Pricing was very fair for the work performed. Thanks!

The best VW shop. The guys there are real honest and trustworthy about what my car needs, it s quality work and fairly priced. Never try to sell me on work that isn t necessary or preventative to a problem down the road. I only trust them with my GTI when I m in San Diego. Highly recommend!

These guys are great. They did some work for me earlier this year (2016) and this week I was back with a new issue. They spent some time to diagnose the problem and then realized that it might be covered under an extended warrantee from the manufacturer. They even called to confirm and then suggest I take it to the dealer to have it fixed for free. This was a $400+ repair. It is not often that you see that kind of customer service. They could have easily charge me for the job, but they did what is best for me as a client. I will use them again in the future.

Been coming to MR Auto since I came to San Diego, over three years ago. Always fair prices, quick work, great service. I wish they were open weekends, but other than that, zero complaints. Highly recommend!

Read the reviews and took my BMW in, oil and trans leaks. Being from Canada, I was looking for a shop familiar with BMW, honest with reasonable prices. MR delivered on all fronts and are very courteous and prompt. Look no further.

Good and friendly service at a reasonable price. When I first came in they did not judge me by what I was wearing and were very helpful. They gave me the exact price of the part and were 300 less then their competitors in the area for maintenance.

Office is a little messy but the work is good and fairly priced. They dont try to gouge you here and the owner is a straightforward and honest guy. I come here for oil changes but wouldn't hesitate to come for larger jobs on VWs.

These guys are awesome! They are all about customer satisfaction, I took my LCA's in to have the rear bushings removed and the new ones (that I supplied) pressed in for my 2003 Jetta TDI. They got it done in a very reasonable time and you can't beat there price. I also had to repair one of my rear calipers and I then did a brake flush, I was not sure if I did it right so I took it to them to do a complete flush for me. When I took it in for the flush the Mechanic took it for a test drive and told me my brakes were fine and it did not need a flush. Now that is what I call honesty! This is the place that I will take my car for all repairs that I am not able to do myself! If you need any repairs for your VW I would definitely check these guys out.Vince

I was at a loss when Miramar VW became Audi and stopped taking VWs for service (why??). Found MR Master Mechanics since the owner is a VW trained mechanic and am so glad I did. Great diagnosticians, excellent work, they don't nickle and dime you (had it in for an oil change and they topped off my brake fluid for free). As a long time VW owner, these guys are the best I've been to for repair. I'd take any foreign car to them and so should you.

Really nice mechanics with reasonable prices. They were very communicative about the process and what could and should be done. The place isn't the cleanest and doesn't have the most welcoming look, but the guys are super nice.
