I'm helping my friend with a C3 71 Stingray. I used to use a place Called The Mustang Shoppe for mustangs I had worked on. They sold parts and also did service. When I saw The Corvette Shop I assumed it was a similar business. I called and asked about a part and was told they don't sell parts. At this point I feel everything was cool. Nice person on the phone and all. But then I thought that maybe they would know a source of supply locally I could use. So I asked if they could tell me where I could source parts. She went to a tech (I assume) and he mumbled something I didn't hear. The nice person who answered the phone originally tells me "he said, try google". Wow... how arrogant. When I go see my friend I will tell him about this. He has 3 other classic cars and belongs to a car club. I'm sure he will pass the word along. What a loss.

My home is in San Diego but I have moved to Florida for the past 9 years due to family issues. I go to San Diego 2 weeks out of the year every year. I called the Corvette Shop and spoke with Larry and brought my car in. For years I had an issue with the cooling system in my 89 Corvette. The cooling fan was either not working or not working hard enough to cool the car down. Larry replaced a few items and also the radiator. I drove the car around as much as I wanted while I was there and had a great time with the car. Larry did a wonderful job and I recommend the Corvette Shop highly. The Corvette Shop gave me something back that I was missing while driving this car, confidence with a smile. I appreciate all he has done for me.Services: General repairs & maintenance, Engine repair

Larry is an Automotive Legend who is has 50 Plus years of automotive experience. Larry is one of the only folks around who can repair early GM fuel injected vehicles.

If you are thinking of using this business - DON'T!! They are neither honest nor trustworthy. Yes, I'm a dissatisfied customer of The Corvette Shop--Larry Hoper. They ripped me off big time and even kept items that should have been returned to me. I have photos of screw-ups to document my claims.Service: General repairs & maintenanceService: General repairs & maintenance

Larry did my pre-purchase inspection and has serviced my Vette since then. He knows just about everything about these cars and I trust him 100% with it. Plus, he spends a lot of time educating the car owner about the vehicle and the issues with vintage autos. Jack

Lawton is a good guy and won't beat around the bush. I did not have my work done there but the Corvette Shop was clear on their price and expectations of what I needed. Other shops I called, laughed in my face before being willing to help me. They are local to San Diego, just be careful other companies besides the Corvette Shop just want to tell you what you want to hear.Thank you for your time,5 out of 5 would ask the Corvette Shop for any help, diagnoses, or repairs needed.

Called to inquire about a rack and pinion job. I didn t get the man s name, but whoever I spoke with was incredibly rude and tried telling me what I was looking for when I specifically asked about a rack and pinion job. Right off the bay I could tell he has terrible customer service and is a rude individual. Will not ever call back to try and give my business in the future. Recommend looking elsewhere.

Contacted Larry Hofer, the owner about replacing the right rear wheel bearing on my 1967 Corvette. He was reluctant to do the job but finally agreed to do it. Two weeks later the car was ready. When I picked up the car he told me the job cost was $3000.00. He stated the work was only $2000.00 but he charged me an additional $1000.00 because he really did not want to do the job. Total rip off shop owner! As I left his shop, I noticed the left rear bearing was also going out. I had contact with another shop in Escondido called Joe and Sons Transmission. I contacted the owner and asked what the charge for replacing the left rear bushing on the trailing arm. His price when finished in two days was $200.00. I gave him another $100.00 for a tip.Do not take any work to the Corvette Shop. Total ripoff!

Larry may come off a little arrogant but he is really not and is very helpful. I have an 1992 Corvette he know the issue and before I could describe my problem he stopped me and told me what the symptoms were and that he could fix it for a price. If you have not been trying to get your car fixed for considerable time I could see how this type of answer would put you off. But because I have, I would just say it was poor bedside manners. Not uncommon in doctors or people that actually know a lot about a subject.Asking me how come I had not brought my car to him first was not the best question but I got over it. After that things improved quickly.Larry took time to explain what the issue was and he could fix it. In the end he told me to bring it in and he would show me how to fix. It was such a simple fix that he agreed to let me bring my normal mechanic along so that someone that knew engines and had a dynamotor in his shop could do the job.Keep in mind this is a Crossfire engine and no one that I know of has the answer to what to do after you have installed a rebuilt engine from a commercial rebuilders. They all just tell me I made a mistake and I have to live with it.I will post the results when that is done but I just had to provide feedback to counter the other two reviews on Google. There are lots of Corvette shops in San Diego and most have an attitude that they are the best. This guy seems to be one of the better C3 mechanics I have located based on people that I know that have C3 and have had work done. I just wish I had found him a couple of years ago which is how long I have been working this issue.I want a knowledgeable doctor working on me and I want a knowledgeable mechanic working on my corvette I will put up with a little poor bedside manners. Maybe because I have been accused of having one before I retired.Stopped in today 23July 2015 just to make arrangements for me and my mechanic to come in. He said he had sometime and in less than an hour of work my car was working. I was there about a hour and a half because of interruptions. I cannot believe it my car was repaired and working. No one else had been able to fix it. He told me he had to get back to work and said goodbye. I told him I could not leave without paying him for at least an hour worth of his time. Which he said, he would gladly accept if I wanted. Car runs great.Remember if you want someone to talk to, go to a bar. If you want your corvette fixed make and appointment or drop in and talk to him face to face.

Sometimes Larry is a very good mechanic. Other times I have gotten the car back in the same shape as what I dropped it off in -$2hours of labor charges. Its always a roulette wheel with what you will get.

The most appalling customer service experience I've ever seen. Lectured me on the need for him to make money and all I did was ask for a quote.

I called in for a part and they said they would have to call around and locate it. They they said I should just call around to locate the part myself. Then I asked for a price to have it installed and they said they didn't know. Bad customer service.
