One day my Hyundai suddenly started driving rough, and the check engine light came on. I took it in, and the trouble code suggested there was a transmission-related issue. My usual mechanic does not service transmissions, so, on a whim, I went on to visit the 6696 Miramar Rd AAMCO. I dropped off my car at about 9 am, and the owner JJ was so kind to give me a ride home. He later called to inform me that my car had been stuck in 3rd gear, because my transmission speed sensor needed replacing. I was given an estimate, I authorized the repair, and was told to expect that the work would be completed by that afternoon. Despite being short-staffed, JJ got the job done, and also accommodated me by letting me pick up my vehicle after closing time. Having to get work done on one's car is never convenient, but this shop made the experience painless, and they did it for a very fair price. I strongly encourage other San Diegans to come here for their auto repair needs.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Trying not to cus on this review is also very difficult. This company is one you should NEVER visit. My dad turned my car in to them JUNE 2023 AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT FIXED IT!!!! To this day it is sitting in their parking lot! Let me explain so you can see why you should NEVER bring your car to this company. A year back or two my cars transmission wasn't working. After having it repaired by this company my dad decided to get this stupid company's "warranty". Well, the transmission went bad AGAIN and my dad brought it in to them. They have been DRAGGING their feet on repairing my car and STILL HAVE IT!! My dad has gone by every week to check on the progress and they keep giving him the run around. "We are waiting for the piece to get shipped" or we don t have a transmission person to fix it . This is a company that has TRANSMISSION written on their comapny name!!! In 3 months it will have been ONE YEAR! What takes that long to fix? Not even building a car from scratch takes that long. This company will only fix your car in a timely manor if they are getting money for it. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! Their warranty is absolutely useless unless you never want to see your car again. I am currently reading up on lawyers and what legal process I can get in order to get this car fixed because it's not able to be driven off their lot at this time and they are not working on it. If you read any review READ THIS ONE!!UPDATE!!!!Back with another update for you potential customers!! PLACE IS TERRIBLE!!!!! For a recap if you weren't able to see my first review, this place has kept my car in their parking lot for 9 MONTHS with excuses on why they didn't get to working on the car yet. We had a warranty with them since the first time our transmission went bad and had to be replaced. They did a choppy job and the car was brought back to them and since they are making no money from this job they have KEPT THE CAR! now that you are up to date here real time issues: they finally "fixed the transmission" and they called my dad to pick the car up at 9am this morning. HE IS CURRENTLY BROKEN DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY UP NORTH!!!!!! Less than 6 hours after they "fixed the car" none of the gears of the car work only reverse WHILE ON THE FREEWAY!!!!! like I've said before and will continue to say: DON'T GET YOUR CAR FIXED HERE!!!!

So far, my experience has been fantastic.. JJ was hands on the moment I walked in. Even though he didn't have any empty bays, he still took it upon himself to come out and get on the ground and crawl underneath my van to see if he could see any visual issues.Although we couldn't see anything visually, he made it real. Easy for me to get my van checked in and parked so that he could put it up on a lift and look at it as soon as one became available.Super personable guy easy to talk to. A true Patriot!This is the kind of person customers like customers like to do business with

Nissan wanted to charge me$1800 to fix a transmission shift problem going from Park to drive. They had the car 8 days to decide this. JJ fixed it in 5 minutes by replacing a$12 sensor that was bad and hanging just under the steering column. Took him 30 minutes including the drive to get the new sensor!

J.J. was very friendly & honest, saving me a few hundred bucks I'm sure any other place would've gladly taken without a second thought. Went in for scheduled transmission work expecting to pay $400+, and came out paying less than $200 for only a required oil change, filter, and basic transmission fluid exchange. Turned out I didn't need the full transmission flush as the maintenance service reminder indicated. A+++, would recommend & will return again.Services: Transmission, Oil change

JJ is my go to! I've been going to him for years and he never disappoints. The only thing is that he's gotten so busy over the years, now I have to call in advance to make appointments. Though I still noticed that people come for drop-ins and he really tries to bend backwards and accommodate. He's an honest guy and he charges great prices. Before JJ, I always asks for a few quotes at different places and he was by far the most reasonable. He was very forward up front about the costs and he never pushed for me to get services that was recommended. He does educate me and gave me all the options. Like he would say you can change this now and it costs this, or drive on it and if/when it breaks it will cost this to fix. In my experience I would do this and that. 110% full honesty and 110% expertise. I am so glad I found him and I have recommended so many of my friends and family to him. JJ was the best! He got us in the same day I called to inquire about services. From the moment our vehicle was towed to the shop until it was done and ready to be picked up, he made us feel like our vehicle was in great hands. JJ was honest and very effective in communicating with us every step of the way. He stands by their work and I appreciate that. This place is phenomenal. Had the clutch on my Jeep go out in the desert and I brought it to JJ at AAMCO. At first I was nervous about how long it would take because it's my daily driver and he was swamped with customers and cars, but he made the time to work on it right away. He called me with constant updates on the truck to include work that needed to be done, parts and services rendered, price and timeline so I was never once in the dark. Had the Jeep back quickly and I left with a big smile on my face. It runs like a dream again and I have JJ's friendly demeanor and timely service to thank for it.

James and his team were extremely helpful. They went above and beyond with the service. A quick turn around both times I ve brought it in. He even offered to drop me off at my work to save some cash and time as well. Fantastic experience at this location, JJ was very pleasant, very informative, and not pushy in the least. On the first drive with my vehicle he diagnosed the problem that I had spent weeks trying to figure out, and it was something I had already dismissed as not worth checking, turns out his quick diagnosis was spot on. Answered all of my calls checking in and checked with me before doing any further work. Again, lovely experience, and greatly appreciated!Service: General repairs & maintenance

JJ was great. I took my car for transmission flush, oil change and spark plug replacements. He reviewed the specific recommendations for my car and asked when I last replaced the plugs. He determined that I did not need to replace them for another 20,000 miles. He saved me money and did great work. I will definitely be back for all future service.

I will have to say that it was a true blessing coming to this place, being treated like the good old days and experiencing service that you just don't find any more. jay-jay treated us amazingly and I will trust him and his crew with any one of my vehicles I would strongly advise if you need any transmission or vehicle services that they offer .choose this place.Thank you guys for getting us back on the road and helping us get back home to Rio RanchoService: Transmission

JJ was very helpful and always kept us up to date with status and pricing. He was very knowledgeable about our transmission issues and was flexible with our appointment. We were very happy with our repair and would definitely come again.

This place failed to meet the warranty timeline given by over a month for a transmission replacement. They continuously gave timelines and have yet to even start the job. Not military friendly, they give the run around when talking to them about basics trying to squeeze more into it that is needed even after the diagnostic came back. Two different workers said the owner just isn t planning for the job and has been working on his own car instead during working hours.Service: Transmission

I like AAMCO because it's present in many states and citys. J.J and Manuel are amazing people. I had to do some routine checks and change the spark plugs. They did a great job. Professional and honest place. Fair price.

Was my son's SUV, no mechanical ability whatsoever, BUT, a great musician... Long story short, purchased from daughter, who never did any upkeep. Engine started rattling and shaking, as an old mechanic, sounded like a misfire.I had great luck with AAmco a couple years ago, and have had great luck again with AAmco, and spoke to JJ, who suggested we bring it in and allow him to take a look. misfire on 2 cylinders, melted catalytic converter, required new spark plugs and a couple new wires. I es surprised at how fast my car was fixed and the knowledge of mechanic work . My car was fixed on an hour. When the other shop had me going back and forth for 3 months . I highly recommend you Ray Ray . Excellent service, super friendly staff, and an overall pleasant experience. I had problems with my car stalling, and was able to get help right after arriving. They took the time to diagnose the problem, and went through the effort to make sure they got it right, which they did free of charge. They then fixed the problem quickly and professionally, and addressed any other potential sources of future problems they saw, and offered great affordable prices. Would definitely recommend.

I could not be happier with the service I received at AAMCO on Miramar Rd. J.J. took excellent care of my needs and my 18 year old SUV is running like new. I still need to take my vehicle in for a free inspection after 200 miles but I feel certain that J.J. will once again take care of any concerns I have. Don't think twice if you need auto service to bring your vehicle here.

JJ is awesome! The differential on my 2011 Chevy Impala blew up on me in October of 2019. I had it towed to this AAMCO and JJ got to work. I had my car back. Unfortunately, something went wrong a few months later and the diff broke down again. I got it back to JJ and he repaired it again thanks to the standard warranty. I had him take care of a few other needs for my Impala and my wife's Fiesta. JJ went way above and well beyond my expectations of a mechanic and of AAMCO. I would recommend this place 10 out of 5.

My car had an engine oil leak. They assessed the problem free of charge, ordered replacement parts right away, replaced said parts and cleaned the engine block for me. I thought the price was fair. My car is over 20 years old so I had so other concerns. They checked it out for me and gave me some tips on things to look out for. Overall positive experience, would visit them again.Services: Transmission, General repairs & maintenance

Nissan dealership wanted to do a very expensive repair. JJ at Amco tested the car and came up with a different situation recomended we do something else. Van drives like new and cost the fraction of what the dealership wanted. Even worse I called the Mossy Nissan and service manager response was; they have to follow Nissan strict mechanical guidelines and are not allowed even if they know to do side work! Word of advise go to AMCO and not a dealership.Service: Transmission

I HIGHLY reccomend JJ and team at the AAMCO on Miramar Rd! My car had been making an awful noise which I thought might be the transmission. JJ test drove it and immediately recognized the issue and brought the car back to further investigate. It was an inexpensive and easy fix that Manuel did a great job helping with. I waited for my vehicle in the lobby and observed numerous other interactions between the staff and customers. JJ was very patient, honest and courteous with all of them. He looks out for the best for his customers and will not over charge for parts and services. I had a WONDERFUL experience!

JJ has been outstanding over the years. We have a fleet of 10 vehicles, he is always very honest and quick to respond and done a great job maintaining them, and pricing is very competitive.

I had a great experience here. I came in thinking my car needed a lot of work, and the owner, JJ, was very honest, and let me know that my car was in pretty good shape already. If I could give AAMCO 6 stars, I would. I highly recommend this mechanic shop!

Amazing service!!! Had a check engine light on my wife's 2007 Chevy Tahoe for an EVAP system problem. JJ and his mechanics got it all figured out and fixed, but he also did a full system diagnostic check too, which revealed the need for new spark plugs and wires. I knew the vehicle was in need of them as part of the 100k mile suggested part replacement, but with the added system check, they were able to identify that this desperately needed to be done. The service was fast for everything and at an amazing price!! Recommend to anyone for anyone with any maintenance needed!
