I m international student and my host family gave me one car. I brought to a car shop in chula vista and the guy said fix the car and charge me $80. So I went to do smog and the car didn t passed! I brought the car to a muffler shop the guy said the sensor was defective and the previous mechanic instead of change to a new one they put something to trick the smog, so he installed a brand new sensor!After that I went to this place stopped the car in front of the entrance and nobody came to talk to me. So I get my car inside, one guy was standing and just looking with his crossed arms and didn t say anything. It was 4:30pm and they close 5:30pm, I asked the guy if the were open he nod I get out and try to explain my situation they cut me off and asked the paperwork from the previous smog and he said your car is tempered that s why didn t pass. I was with the old part on my hand trying to show him and explain that the mechanic fix and installed a brand new one he didn t listen to me and told me to bring to the previous smog place. And when I asked so you don t do smog here? He said yes but bring to the other place! Both guys don t even went outside to check my car or at least look under the car to see that everything is okay now. They barely talk with me, cut me off when I tried to explain and didn t get up from his chair to look the car. I just grab the paper back left and went to another smog place they check under the car was everything okay did the smog, the car passed and gave me the paperwork.I don t recommend this place at least those 2 guys. They might have other guys nice there but this ones looked me weird and didn t check my car snd refuse to do the smog and when I left they were talking about it on their own language for me don t understand what they were saying!

Very bummed on my experience here. Charged me $120 to get into my motorhome for a total of 2 minutes to tell me that it needs to be ran 300 miles and be started and stopped 25 times since it had a new battery. Then told me that it would be $20 to retest after going back. They let me know that it was 20 days I had to retest and it was past that so I would have to pay the full amount needless to say, I will not be going back there or recommending them. It would ve been nice if someone told me I had 20 days but they said that that was a big sign on the wall that I failed to read so it was my fault.Service: Emissions testing

Had to find a smog center that was a Star station and this place is. Easy to get to around convoy and they opened at 8am vs 8:30am which was great so I went before work.I was in and out within 7 minutes. Guy was very friendly and they have comfortable couches while you wait. Highly recommend!

I had a great experience. The service was excellent and there was no one ahead of me so I was done in 15 mins. I m also happy to be supporting a local family business. I ll definitely return next time.

I took my 2001 jeep in to get smoged and the kid that was driving it grinding my gears three times and then tried to blame it on the vehicle when it was not the vehicle's fault I highly recommend that everyone DO NOT go to this place bad news bears.

These guys are quick. They are very skilled at their trade and know how to get the job done. There's always availability and get through the inspection. The person there doesn't waste time chatting with customers, he just gets the job done and off you go to your next task.

This place is a small, family-owned business with great customer service that you feel great supporting. I have been using them exclusively for my smog checks for about 8 years. The owner Chris remembers me every time i come in, even though it may be 2 years from my last visit. They are very fast. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 5 minutes for them to start my smog check and i am usually out the door in less than 15 minutes. Of course the people who fail their smog checks are going to write bad reviews, but this is a test-only place so they have no vested interest to fail you because they aren't trying to sell you a costly repair. I have failed a test there after installing a new battery and just had to drive around for another week and retest. Have been going here for years. They instituted a $2 charge if using a credit card or a DEBIT card. According to the owner, it makes up for the fees charged by the credit card companies and/or banks and credit unions. Will not be going back.

Small local specialty business located near automative mechanic shops, and local restaurants in the area. I was in and out under 10 mins, and didn't even have time to think about what I wanted for lunch. The owner is friendly enough, but know that you'll still have to pay $3 more at the time that I'm writing this in order to pay with debit or credit. 5-Stars.

My recent experience with this place was not so great. Been taking my work vehicles here for years. Always quick and friendly service. Decided to bring my personal vehicle in, I was told my catalytic converter was not correct part even though I bought the vehicle directly from the dealer over 12 years ago. Never had an issue with is passing smog before. They told me to take it to a smog referee which would cost me even more money on top of the $48 I was already charged. I ended taking it to another trusted mechanic and my truck passed no problem. Owner refused to give me a refund, so I handled the charge through my cc company. My advice to everyone, don t go here. Something shady is going on here and they have definitely lost all my business.

I took my car in at 10:30 AM on a Sunday. The customer service was excellent, both over the phone and in-person. The place was pretty easy to find and nobody was there so I pulled right in. On request, they did a free OBDII test to check for any obvious failures. After they started, they were done with the official test within 10 minutes. I paid $55, which I think is a little high. They did take Discover, which is uncommon. Overall, really pleased with the service here.

This is the best smog place in San Diego.Chris the owner is very personal, and has the best prices in town. I waited no longer than 10 minutes, he has his family working in the business. The last time I was there was well over 4 years ago and he remembered even though I had a different car.

Go to A & P, you won't be disappointed. Chris is fast, professional, and super friendly. I've taken two personal vehicles and two work vehicles to him and have been happy each time. He has always taken the time to go over all of the details of the results with me and suggest vehicle maintenance - or tell me when something really isn't necessary. Every time I visit I learn something new.I have very few places I will go out far of my way to give my business - A & P is one of them.

This is a great example of an amazing family-owned business with excellent customer service. I took my truck here to be tested and had such a great experience. The owner was friendly and extremely fast. I had to have my wife's car smog tested that same day, and even though her car didn't require a "STAR" (Test only) center, i decided to bring it here. The best thing about bringing your car to a test only center is they will not try to sell you on unnecessary repairs. If you think you are saving a few bucks by taking your car elsewhere, just wait until they tell you how much you need to pay in order to get your car to pass the smog test. I highly recommend taking your car to A&P for your next smog test!

Not sure what's going on with this place but definitely shady. First year requiring STAR smog for my car. Took it here and they charged me $47 (it's another $8 to send the certificate of compliance when you pass). The computer checked out but he told me I failed and needed to go get a part replaced and bring it back to retest (another $20). Seemed fishy so I asked a mechanic friend to run a diagnostic - he said it passed fine. So I took my car to another reputable smog center and it passed! Not to mention the other place only charged $38 for the whole shebang. I'm inclined to think these guys are greedy. Not sure how they got so highly rated but I STRONGLY urge users to read reviews carefully and be wary of this place

Charged me $150 to do a smog check on my Lambo. It's fine to pay that amount if he did anything different. He didn't take 15 minutes to complete my certification. He charged me based on the price of my car. I'd say that's ripping off you customer. Go to DP Smog Check on Convoy instead. You'll get honest pricing there.

Been going here for years. I brought one of my vehicles in last week. It failed which wasn't a problem, I took it to be repaired. Brought it back for a retest, and it passed. Unfortunately the owner failed it because he claimed the vehicle engine family number was not in the California Air Resources Board database. He gives me the phone number for the referee, takes my money and sends me on my way.I take it to a different place for a second opinion.......where I discover its a 49 state vehicle, none of which are in the ARB database and are exempt from having to match engine family number, as long as they pass on all other counts. The other guy passes the vehicle, and I go on my way $54 dollars and 2 hours of wasted time worse off.Thanks A+P: you should have been competent enough to know the rules in your own industry.
