I paid 177.00$ to get the brake and light inspection for a moped. This is ridiculous; the moped was in the shop for 5 minutes. It also has one headlight, not two, and I was charged 85 for the left and 85 for the right according to the inspection report. I should have neglected to pay and left. When I said that 177 is too much, the owner literally said, " maybe it's too much for you, not for other people". Their hourly labor say 110$ for mechanic work according to their sign. A smog check is 50.00 which would take more work than a brake and light. If he scams people for that, he would for sure overcharge people for repairs.

Great place for a smog check. There were able to service my vehicle shortly after arrival. The staff were very friendly and pleasantly chatty, which helped pass the time as I waited. Next time I need a smog check and I'm in that area, I know exactly where to go to get the job done. Thanks a bunch!

Solid service. I trust Jose and his crew with my truck. I usually do my own servicing but for the bigger jobs I go here. Yeah they re busy but, to me, that s a good sign of a quality shop.

Very nice folks run this place. It's my favorite smog check place in Salinas.I recommend United Smog Service to everyone.I never have had to wait too long if I have an appointment. They have reasonable and competitive prices for this area.Two helpful suggestions I would have is that the Waiting Area could be remodeled to better accommodate customers who are waiting, especially in hot months or when the weather is bad. I would suggest a change to the waiting area to reduce the size of the huge front counter and then include more customer seating and perhaps a water cooler. Also, another even more important change is they could have the door between the repair garage and the waiting area be fitted with an automatic door closer. The reason is because it's almost always left open and the exhaust from the cars which are getting smog checked fills the waiting area with smelly exhaust fumes.Just some positive suggestions.United really is a great smog check place.

Decided to drop in for a smog check on my 1989 Chevy K1500 pickup with no appointment after being turned away by a different shop in South Salinas because my pickup was too old. United Smog Check staff was super nice and the shop was clean, neat and car lifts looked very well maintained. Even the waiting room has nice plush chairs. They were able to get my check done right away with virtually no wait time. The only disappointment was the price of $85. I've never paid that much for a smog in this truck and was taken back a bit, but I was already there and didn't want to be a bad customer. Was told it was attributed to the fact that multiple types of machines needed to be used for an older truck plus to help pay for a new smog check machine which is apparently very fussy and doesn't work very well. However, whether that was really the case or simply to cover the cost of inflation, for my truck, next time I'll have to shop around, even if I have to drive across town for a cheaper price. I still feel this shop is a great business.

They were very patient when I had a lot of questions and they were able to fit me and my car in no problem. I had accidentally lost my vehicle registration and it wasn't a problem, they had me bring in an old registration and they were able to smog it. Because my car was a 1999 it only cost me $60.00 and it wasn't very far from where I lived.

Passed smog for a 2004 honda pilot. Very nice front desk. Cost 55$ I called before hand and asked wait time. Was in and out under 45mins. Will be taking my car here again

Was unable to use the original place I went to for my immission smog check due to my car being too old. They suggested United Smog Check that had the equipment for 1999 and older. I called them they had an immediate opening. From the phone call I was done in 1 hour. Very nice well kept facility. Nice people. I'll go back and took cards to hand out to friends.

I drove an extra 15 miles to get my car smogged by United (passing up many other similar places along the way). And let me tell you... I'm so, so happy I did. Here's why:- No appointment needed or warranted. I was in and out in 30 minutes.- Very nice and ,better yet, EXTREMELY knowledgeable.- My car failed smog. But the mechanic actually sought me out and told me how to fix the issue for next to nothing. Considering I drive a BMW that I have started to loathe... it's pretty miraculous when a repair is cheap.Anyway- drive the extra 15 to 30 minutes if you don't live near United and need to have your car smogged. It is worth it to say the least.

FABULOUS service. In and out in 30 minutes - no appointment. One of a few places in town that will take old cars (mine is 1991 Toyota Corolla). Professional, friendly service. I had been taking my truck to this shop for some years now. But will never take it back again. The lady behind the counter was throwing my card at me and the pen to sign my receipt. Completely rude and unprofessional, will never go back and when I expressed that to her she said, don t need your business .

Smog checks always bring a pang of anxiety with the higher-mileage vehicles I tend to drive. How great, then, to find a smog inspector whose apparently family-run business I'd quick and courteous, efficient and effective. As good an experience as I have had getting one of our vehicles smogged. This is my go-to for so long as we live in Salinas!

One of the few smog shops this felt there would not be an issue with dishonesty ever. The owner and his wife were very friendly and nice. I would recommend this smog shop for not only a smog check but any mechanical needs you might have too but dont know any mechanics you feel comfortable with or may have little to no knowledge of cars and engines, make or female it wouldnt matterthey would be just as honest and as much help or understanding both genders may have.

Friendly and fairly quick. I didn't get any untrustworthy vibes. Seems like an honest place. I left off one star because it's the most expensive smog I ever got. @ $60! The place I normally go is $45 for my 99 Sienna. Also, there's one seat in the tiny waiting room which I think is because of covid but it's too small for more people anyway. I wish smog places had decent places to wait. I'd gladly pay $60 w/o leaving off a star if a smg place had a decent waiting room. With a vending machine of snicky snacks!

Bad service, over priced! With these prices its cheaper to take to a dealership for repairs. Call the dealer to see if your car has a recall first most stuff can be fixed at no cost. I ended up spending $3800 for an engine on my Kia Optima with these guys when I could have gotten a replacement for free from the manufacturer.
