Great place with wonderful people. Costumers service was outstanding. It was hard to find a shop that can actually reprogram the TCM for my vehicle. Not even GM dealer Could get it reprogrammed because they said it was to old of a model. And Chevy dealer wanted to charge me double of what Gars Transmissions charged me. Not to mention that after several attempts, we couldn t get the issue solved on my first visit. (Nothing that had to do with them). They had me come the next day, to make sure I left with a up and running truck. With no extra charge!! Couldn t be more thankful. I Definitely recommend them and I will surely be going back to them for any vehicle problems I have in the future.

Honest and honorable people who do great work!! I should NOT have had warranty coverage because I didn't follow the checkup schedule, but Gars stood by their work anyway and paid for repairs!! I'm still kind of in shock.Gars rebuilt my 1996 Dodge 2500 46RE after it failed catastrophically about 18 months ago. During the job, their customer service was excellent. I paid $6500 for a complete rebuild, upgraded torque converter, new catalytic converter, and some electrical diagnostics. I was very happy with their work, and they gave me one of their t-shirts for spending so much!Since they're ATRA certified, all of their trans work is warrantied (if you follow the maintenance/checkup schedule, which I didn't). My van drove like new for about 25k miles before the torque converter started to fail. I took it to a shop on the east coast, and I called Gars when they found brass in the pan. Gars worked with them and paid out about $1300, which they weren't obligated to do! I continue to wear their t-shirt with pride!Services: Transmission, Electrical, Auto engine diagnostic

Had them regear my car, pick it up was leaking fluid, took it back they fixed it, turns out it was still leaking, dropped the car off for a 3rd time and when driving home my head gaskets went bad, had to have a the engine replaced. Called them they said there s nothing they can do. DO NOT EVER GO HERE

While looking for a transmission repair shop in Morro Bay to repai transmission cooling line to auxiliary cooler, i located Gars Transmission in Paso Robles. I talked to John and he indicated that they where busy but he would squeeze me in. Had to have F350 towed to his shop and only waited a few minutes before it was pulled into repair bay. Repair was completed in a timely manner at a fair price. I was more than pleased with complete service provided by repair staff, John and office staff. Highly recommend Gars Transmissions. Highly recommended! Very honest, kind, and knowledgeable people. They gave me honest advice, which meant that they lost $3200, by recommending that I trade in my car instead of going through with the repairs. Additionally, they offerred me the option of calling them to ask for "car advise" when I was ready to purchase my next vehicle. Lastly, the quoted price was very reasonable for the work needed. I was quoted $1800 more for the same job , by another mechanic.

Just getting around to posting a review. We were moving from SoCal to Seattle and our transmission went out in our minivan. The guys got us in and on the road in 2.5 days! Honest work at a reasonable price. Sean even stayed late to make sure we could get it back quickly. Overall great place. Highly recommend.

Had my 2006 Ram 2500 48RE transmission rebuilt roughly a year ago. After finding a overdrive direct clutch pack snap ring in the pan I called numerous shops. I ended up driving 200 miles out of my way to take it here. Sean was very knowledgeable on these trucks and made me feel very comfortable on spending good money for a transmission rebuild.

Took my 2001 Toyota Tacoma V6 3.4L in for a clutch change. I provided all the parts, even the oil and gasket maker. These guys did a phenomenal job. I also had a stripped differential fill plug, and a stripped bolt of one of the 4 that held down my shift lever retainer clip (an aluminum gasket for the shifter). They got the diff plug out with no problem.For the retainer bolt, I asked them ONCE in an email if they could replace that bolt and I forgot to mention it in person when I dropped it off. When I cracked open the shift area to replace a gasket on my transfer case months later, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they HAD replaced that bolt for me, even though I forgot to remind them. That's the kind of stuff that makes you want to go back to a mechanic.I'll be seeing if they'll want to do the rebuild when time comes.Service: Clutches & transmissions service & repair

Awesome family-run business! Carol got me on the schedule for an emergency transmission rebuild right before Christmas. Shannon was super helpful and really sweet. Shawn did a really great job rebuilding my tranny and even did some custom work to make it better than factory. I love that they were very thorough and kept me informed the whole way. They actually rebuilt MY tranny with all new parts instead of swapping it out for a cheap remanufactured one. I'm totally satisfied, and I HIGHLY recommend Gar's!!

I followed their advice to the letter. I bought every part they told me to. Spent hundreds on their "labor" fees and here I am still paying SOMEONE ELSE TO FIX WHAT THEY F***ED UP. The people there are friendly, but don't know s**t about auto repair. I would suggest trying to fix it yourself or letting a kid work on your vehicle before suggesting this place.

FIVE STARS FOR GARS! We came in from far out of town and got stuck at Lake Nacimiento on our vacation - oh no! But luckily for us, Gars had us up and running again in no time, and at a wonderfully fair and honest price. Their entire staff was so courteous, efficient and forthright, and helped us out of what could have been a terrible situation. They literally saved our vacation, and I'm so grateful for their service. I couldn't recommend them more highly. Thanks again, Gars!

Went in at 8 am for transmission service, with a fully working cruise control. Left the shop at 1 with a broken cruise control. Was told i would be charged for them to look at it, even though they broke it.

These people are honest! They offer free inspection of your vehicle and tell you if they expect additional costs could come up. I took my vehicle in and they told me that fixing the transmission would not be worth it!

They will flash the computer for a temp fix to sell. Then they will put you on a wild goose chase that will cost thousands. Don't buy a vehicle from Garr
